My dad went to the ER at UF Max Leggett on Friday, July 24, 2026. He remained in the ER until after his surgery on Saturday because they said no rooms were available. The hospital has changed a lot since it first opened. It used to feel much more patient-focused and much cleaner. While in the ER, my dad had an accident with his tubing, and urine and feces ended up everywhere. The next morning, I was cleaning the sink myself with disinfectant wipes from their cabinet. After surgery, he was moved to B Tower, 4th Floor. While the doctors were excellent, the nurses were not pleasant or helpful. Sunday he had several family members visiting and helping him. On Monday, July 27, my dad called the family asking someone to bring him ice from Circle K because the nurses kept telling him the ice machine was broken. After not eating for seven days, making sure he had ice should have been a priority. I called the patient advocate to ask what the problem was. My dad had also been told physical therapy would come Monday to get him up and walking after surgery, but that never happened. Instead, my grandson got him out of bed and brought him ice. The patient advocate said she would visit him Tuesday, but she never did. When I visited Tuesday, his call button and TV remote were lying on the floor. He said the overnight nurse had dropped them and left without putting them back within his reach. At discharge, the doctors prescribed three medications and were told to send them to Walgreens on Main Street. Instead, they were sent to Express Scripts, meaning his pain medication and antibiotics would take one to two weeks to arrive. Common sense says those are medications a patient needs immediately after surgery, not weeks later. On Thursday, while I was there, a discharge nurse called to ask if he needed anything. He explained the prescription mix-up, and her response was simply, "I'm sorry, I can't help with that. You'll have to call back." The doctors provided excellent care, but I can't say the same about the nursing staff or overall hospital experience. It's disappointing to see how far this hospital's patient care has declined. I love my ortho team at UF Health. recently had back to back surgery with Dr James and he is the best. very caring doctor and explains everything in great detail. His entire team is amazing and take great care of you. I also highly recommend Dr Freidl, he did my knee replacement a couple years ago and did prp in my other knee so I could wait a couple years before having the other knee replaced. He explains everything so you can understand it well. His entire team is amazing as well. I'm very happy to have the ortho team on my side. Was transferred her from an urgent care/ER when I needed an overnight stay ahead of an unplanned surgery. The whole nurse team treated me incredibly kind throughout my stay, especially when I told them I was nervous about some testing they were about to do. They kept me calm and treated me with the utmost care. Every person that I interacted with did honestly - the anesthesiologist, surgeon team, front desk, cafeteria workers (who went above and beyond to get me something to eat when the ordering system was down!) and even the person transporting me to the pre-op room! They were also incredibly knowledgeable and cared about me personally. I was in a room in the new tower apparently, which was very spacious and comfortable. There was a couch that converted into a makeshift bed for a visitor as well. I believe visiting hours are 9am-9pm. Coming back in for a post-op appointment was great as well. The front desk was helpful and pointed me in the right direction, and the medical assistant and doctor were professional and friendly. I would absolutely recommend UF Health North to anyone! This ER is hands down one of the best places to go if you ever need emergency care. From the front desk to the nurses and doctors in the back, everyone here truly cares, and you can see that in how hard they work every single day to help their patients.I have sickle cell disease, and unfortunately, this condition often carries a negative stereotype of drug-seeking behavior. I'm not saying that doesn't happen, but I am saying that not everyone who comes in for treatment is seeking drugs. What I appreciate most about the team here is that they always treat me with kindness, respect, and compassion--no matter how many times I've had to come in for care. read more

Exceptional Care from Nurse Mya at UF Health My wife was recently a patient at UF Health, and I want to sincerely thank the entire team for their professionalism--but I especially want to recognize Nurse Mya for the exceptional care she provided. Mya was absolutely incredible from start to finish. She was kind, patient, and extremely knowledgeable, and she made my wife feel truly cared for every step of the way. Her gentle manner and compassionate presence made a difficult time so much easier for both of us. What stood out most was how attentive and helpful Mya was. I had back problems. Had Alif and X-lif and then spinal fusion. I coded twice on the table once in ER ICU in front of my then wife. 7 weeks later a rod breaks where he didn't finish my construct. I have a revision and adjustment. Instead of being able to stand 12 to 6 on a clock now my head is forced down to 2 on a clock. If I try to stand up straight the 3 rods inside me actually stab me. My construct is pushing me forward into the letter C. Two screws stick out of my lower back and stab me like pistons when I walk. In the center between my shoulders a fused vertebrae and titanium now sticks out at the apex of my letter C deformity of my construct. I'm sure he is a fine Dr in his other fields but look at his credentials about spine surgery. I wish I had prior to. He ruined my back. The only solution is another surgery, that he wont do. Mayo Clinic would have to do it . They want to break my just fused spine back into a bunch of pieces and put it back together in a way I'm not leaning forward. Or take out all my hardware put it back in correctly. And spend another 18 months healing in pain. My full zipper scar almost didn't heal in a 4-6 inch spot. There were multiple office visits for new stiching. Get this.....A few days after my fusion I told them something was wrong. I couldn't do my exercises any more I asked for my discretional medication. (additional pain pills) they said youre drug seeking and discharged me early to a facility where I was to room with a quadriplegic. I also was responsible for taking my bandage off there for the first time. Something they were supposed to and the facility said they couldn't do because they didn't have that staff . It didn't matter I was not accepted because I had shingles. They released the zoster virus in my spine and then fused it there for eternity. I'm averaging a shingles out break and read face every 2 to 3 months. Out brakes last 3 to 6 weeks. Just pure fire burning sensation in the mud back. Because they didn't listen to me about the additional pain I lost rehab time and proper medical care because I had to go home since the facility said correctly I had a shingles out break and could not stay. Now they barely communicate I have weeks of questions with no response. I was told It went to a wrong folder give us 48 hours 4 days later no answers still. I'm going to see a hospital board member and to go to patient relations to figure out how to get my medical records. They won't tell me . Im now disabled which I was not before the surgeries. I started out with a 47 ° curve that took over 40 years to reach that. Post surgery was like 11 or 12°. Over the next 8 months as my construct started to deform me. Literally ripping through my flesh. I'm now back at 40° I lost my wife, my ability to work, mobility. I lost everything for 7 damn degrees and more pain than I started with. I would never recommend him for spinal surgery. So many better options when it comes to that. He did to much to fast parts incorrectly. Put my in hypovolemic shock and my organs we're shutting down left and right. Then proceededed to kill and revived me 2 of the three times I died. I'm switching to Baptist. 1st X-RAY not MRI X-RAY the figure out a spacer was no longer located between L 2&3 (could be wrong on the location) this caused the broken back sensation I told them about. I had 6 ER visits for gun shot level pops in my back and they have no clue. Took Baptist 1 X-ray. The sudden loss of height causes my upper bad to stab it's self on my three rods. After the stabbing I started bending forward and it's like pushing a knife in hard to hurt someone. I have that feeling 24 hours a day now. I had been off pain meds for well over a year after the final failed surgery. I had to return to pain management this past Monday. I was treated so poorly that 2 nurse practitioners that worked with my then wife each took two days off and sat in front of my door almost 12 hours a day for 4 days. I'm going to stop because there is so much more but I hope you get the point Absolutely do not have fusion unless you just can't move without 8-9 pain. See multiple Drs in different practices. One Dr told me I should not have even had illiac screws but some Sj2a whatever that have a little hinge action to them to stop things like a giant screw breaking at your hip. Finally compare specific spine education etc and you will see what's missing. Do your diligence before you make a decision to use UF for any spine issues. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Lincoln for about 4 years and he has done amazing work on me. I had 2 major surgeries and I physically feel better than before. This location is very busy and there is normally a wait, sometimes it sucks. I took my dad to the Urology department North Campus in October. The doctor was fine but the office staff was terrible. The woman scheduling was rude and cocky began yelling about location appointment issues and when I asked what the attitude was for and for her managers name and number. It was obvious she was used to treating people poorly because she smiled was happy to provide the number even after I addressed her domineer and bad attitude. Not once did she apologize but more or less said call him. I called the manager and spoke with him he stated he would investigate as others were present and that it would be handled and he would be checking back with me in a few days to let me know it was handled and to check on myself and my father after the way we were treated but I never heard back from him. Sad and unprofessional. My dad passed away a week later sadly this was his last doctor appointment experience. I think it is important to remember these patients are going through issues, sometimes serious ones so how they are treated plays a huge role young or old and anyone treating elderly patients poorly should be ashamed of themselves. read more

I traveled to UF Health-North due to a severe headache on the left, back side of my head. My blood pressure was taken and it was 200/80. I was told to sit in the waiting room which I did for 27 minutes. I then asked how long would it be before being seen by a doctor to which the person (unknown name or position) responded, "I don't know." I travelled to Baptist-North and was registered, blood pressure taken, and placed in an ER bed within 25 minutes. So, if your blood pressure is at stroke level DON'T go to UF Health North!!! read more

NEVER COMING BACK HERE. Rudest doctor experience I've ever had. My pregnant wife had been constipated for 4 days. The doctor treated us like we were stupid the whole time, making remarks that we "should have taken this" and "should have tried that" even though we had been to multiple other doctors and they've never mentioned what they thought was ordinary. They tried to tell us that pregnant women are supposed to know how to perform an enema on themselves and tried to send us away without doing anything. The doctor even had the audacity to give us the sex talk when we told him that we hadn't been trying for a baby. Incredibly insulting. They also messed up our prescription so we're having to find the medicine they prescribed over-the-counter. read more

UF Shands north- Max Leggett, I had a Pic Line taken out today, I'm having a lot of pain in my left side while I'm breathing or just to use my right arm.. The pain that I'm having has been in there since yesterday... all they keep saying is anxiety, is causing it. But I know that's not what it is...Then after they took the Pic line, out They brought me to the ER where I stayed for 8 hours before I was taken back to a room... most of the nurses were absolutely rude and was very rough with patients and it's uncalled for.... I'm going to try and post a Picture of my finger where the nurse put a thing on my finger, it was hurting so bad from it pinching my finger... I asked them to change it or take it off and they wouldn't change it, they just made it worse... I've gotta say they was really busy on February 12th 2021.... read more

I went to the emergency room with a pulse of about 40 and they took really good care of me and send me by ambulance to the Jacksonville Hospital. They diagnosed what the Baptist Hospital on Amelia Island emergency couldn't diagnose because they didn't do a full urine and blood panel. UF Health figured it out very quickly. I was on my way to meet my maker, and they save me and we're very kind. read more

My daughter had back surgery to remove a spinal cord stimulator today at UF North. Pre-op and post-op nurses (the same team) were horrible. My daughter has a chronic, disabling disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). She is 24 so she handles most of her own advocacy when it comes to medical personnel. By the time I was allowed into Pre-op, she had notified all nurses she came into contact with that she had EDS. They ALL freely admitted they didn't know anything about the disease. She tried to educate them about the weird things that go on in her body (specifically allergic reactions and poor pain control with meds because her body doesn't metabolize pain meds correctly). This is her 9th surgery in 8 years, so she knows what she's talking about. To make a long story short, she had an allergic reaction in Pre-op that the nurse dismissed, telling her to "just stop scratching". The nurse walks out of the room. Two minutes later, my daughter breaks out in hives all over her body. The next step with her allergic reaction (from past experience) is for her throat to start closing. I find another nurse, who takes us seriously, and starts care on my daughter for the allergic reaction. The original nurse comes back in, sees the other nurse taking her seriously, and decides I.V. benadryl should be administered. She then proceeds to tell us how she's adding the med that caused the allergic reaction to my daughter's list of meds she shouldn't take. Like it's all her idea and she saved the day. The surgery went well but post-op was a nightmare. I wasn't allowed to go back there because of COVID (or something) that was never explained to me. My daughter woke up from the surgery moaning and crying from the pain but was told to "be quiet" and that she was "disturbing the other patients). She tries to tell them about her problems with pain meds but they won't listen (multiple different nurses). She's wide awake like she's never had any pain meds. The nurses finally agree (after 30-45 minutes of her crying) to give her a small dose of dilaudid and a valium. Then, they notify her surgeon, who comes to see her and is surprised that she's in so much pain but BELIEVES her and authorizes more and different pain meds. The nurses administer additional dilaudid and fentanyl (which should knock her out totally). Her pain is finally under control but the nurses still treat her like she's just a whiny little girl. My daughter asks to use the bathroom and the nurses at first tell her no, because she can't walk due to all the pain meds she's received. Then a nurse tells her that she will walk my daughter to the restroom because she's such a fall risk. The nurse advises her to keep her eyes wide open and to be careful of weaving and stumbling. My daughter walks in a straight line to the bathroom, no stumbling or weaving, carrying on a full conversation with the nurse. The nurse is amazed that she is so awake after all the pain meds! Yet not one of the nurses acknowledged that my daughter was right, it was appropriate for her to be crying and moaning after surgery, and that she doesn't metabolize pain meds correctly. At the least, these nurses should receive additional training in pain management and pain medicine. Or maybe they shouldn't be in nursing at all, if they don't have any sympathy for their patients. read more

If I could give a negative review, I would. The night staff working the emergency room on 1/20/2022 has got to be the worst I've ever experienced in a hospital. When you show up with your mother going in and out of consciousness from pain (and it's not her first rodio) and they make her sit there while they are openly annoyed that you're even there there in the first place makes no sense and maybe suggests the staff find new jobs. I had a c section at this location this year. Quick review: nursing staff- most were nice the rest were clueless and made me feel uncomfortable. They say "ask if you need any help". But when you ask for help it feels like I was bothering them so I didn't. After my c section I spent the night alone and in the morning (on pain meds) I was crying with a screaming baby sitting in filth and no one came in to check on me so I called my mother to leave work. They changed my sheets one time in a week. I wasn't informed there was coffee/tea/ice available to me. No one explained the amenities in the room. My bed didn't work so I had to get up to use the outside buttons to change my positioning. The clean up crew were extremely ignorant. My self, newborn and mother were all (finally) fast asleep & at 7AM the woman came in and flushed the extremely loud toilet waking us up. The food: my coffee was cold and my orange juice was warm... pretty much TV dinners. My mother was over charged for food and had to complain to management. The only good thing with my experience was the actual c section the doctors were amazing and did a fantastic job. The rest of the experience was very uncomfortable and angering. I definitely will not return for my next baby. read more

Absolutely awful experience last night. I went in around 845 with a tight chest, hard time breathing & coughing stuff up. I sat in the waiting room for 2 hours and watched 5 different people who came in after me be taking back before me. I went up to the desk and asked about it and the response I got was "it's not up to me it's up to the discharge nurse who gets taken back first" It wasn't until I went up to the desk and told them I was going to another hospital & walking out to my car that they had a room opened for me. Once I was in the room it took the doctor 20 mins to come see me and he had an attitude right off the bat with me. I sat for another 2 hours in the room before being discharged. On May 17 my dad arrived to this hospital and went into the cardiac arrest. The ER team reacted very quickly and professionally. They did CPR on him 4 times. That's how bad he was. The weirdest thing that my dad never felt "too sick" prior the cardiac arrest. All my family members were surprised knowing that he had heart issues. The ER team were so quick to resurrect my father. My family will be great full forever for the ER doctors and nurses that spend many years in education and training just to act professionally for a couple minutes that were crucial for my father's life! Oh My Jesus. This ER. I would give this place negative stars if possible. I am a 55 yr old retired US Federal Fugitive Recovery Agent working in the chemical plant industry now. With my last profession, unfortunately, I have been to many hospitals across this country bringing fugitives for anything from cuts and scrape to gun shot wounds, I have been a patient at a few. Last time was for a broken neck which forced my early retirement. I am here now, 7/10/21. Arrived at 18:46, with severe pain in my hip that has lasted 2 days. I am here in Jacksonville working for a couple of months. Appears this place family owned neighborhood walk in clinic instead of a actual hospital ER. This triage nurse calling names is rude as hell. This elderly man with a colostomy bag was asking how long will he have to wait. She was very loud when telling him he will have to wait his turn like everyone else, while he was standing right in front of her. At 23:30 I had to ask if I was forgotten about. Was told they will get to me as soon as they can. RIGHT. There is a 4 yr old child and his mother arrived here that arrived 30 minutes after I did, with his mother having to keep repositioning the bandages on his head because he would have bled all over the floor. She was exhausted trying to keep a hyper 4 yr old calmed down.. I told her if they were to call me ahead of her I would demand they take her child in my stead. Unreal. They are taking ppl who have been laughing and cutting up before ppl that appear to be needing real medical attention. One elderly lady sitting alone in a wheelchair directly in front of the doors to the rooms, who I can see her ankle was swollen very badly, sat for four hours in obvious pain as they just walked right past her without even so much as a acknowledgment. It is now 00:24, I have decided to go to another hospital because this one evidently leaves people sitting in waiting rooms for 5 hours in pain. I told the female triage nurse I had questions for her when she comes back, from bringing a young lady that arrived 45 minutes ago to a room, she comes back with some wannabe tough guy to stand behind her, very funny, as if I was going to attack her. I asked who determines the severity in regards to who should be seen first. I was told the charge nurse, who they wouldn't give me a name, and the Dr's do from reading his triage notes. If those are the ppl who determine who should be seen as priority and can't see a 4 yr old bleeding from the head for close to 4 hours and a elderly woman grimacing in excruciating pain over one's who have been playing on their phones and having a grand old time, then I definitely did not want those types of medical "professionals" attending to me. I STRONGLY suggest people need to seek good medical attention elsewhere SERIOUSLY. Stay way from this hospital emergency room, if you have a serious emergency, at all possible cost. Had a family member take a spill on vacation and ended up here. While I'd rather not be spending Thanksgiving in a hospital at all, I'm glad that we ended up here. The facilities are wonderful, with great views and a nice courtyard in the middle of the hospital. A little hard to navigate at first, but the staff are very helpful. The staff here have been nothing short of amazing, incredibly friendly and helpful. I will say that the cafe/coffee shop lacks good options, but there are countless restaurants and fast food joints within close walking distance. read more

My husband posted a similar review in regards to this hospital, but I think that the issues that occurred when I had to go to this ER cannot be understated. I was closing a window on a Sunday night when it came off the track and hit me on the head. I had a small cut with some bleeding, but I was very woozy, had blurred vision and was moving very slowly. My husband rushed me to UF Health North on a Sunday night. We were in-processed quickly, and I was taken to an exam room very fast. The PA who saw me was professional, and quickly decided to do an CAT Scan. The CAT Scan Tech was also professional, and performed the scan quickly. However, when I was given a pain killer, they discovered that I had never gotten a wristband. The printer was broken up in reception when we in-processed, but we were told up front that I would get the wristband from the people back in ED itself. When the PA asked the nurse to double-check my wrist, they discovered no wristband, but nothing more happened after that. The Nurse brought me a pain pill and gave it to me without scanning my wristband, as I had never received one. (I know I keep repeating this point, but this is a HUGE mistake.) Because I was laying nearly-flat (at an approximate 70 degree angle) when the Nurse gave me the pill, I started to choke. I called for help, but the Nurse didn't hear me, so my husband had to rush over from across the room to help me sit up. I then gagged and threw up the pill and the water I'd been given onto the bed. Nurse covered wet spot on bed with a towel, and asked my husband to recover the pill so I could try and take it again. A short while later, the PA came back and explained CAT Scan showed no injury with no sign of concussion; He said that I just needed to rest, and prescribed another pain killer/anti-inflammatory drug. When my husband asked where we could get this prescription filled, the Nurse told him that we could fill it at any pharmacy. At no point in time did anyone look closely at cut on forehead, nor offer to clean it. Once we got out of the hospital we drove to nearest Pharmacy, only to find out that the pharmacist was gone. The nearest pharmacy with a Pharmacist on duty was miles away. As I was still in pain and very dizzy I asked my husband to take me home so I could take OTC meds and go to bed. At the ER I was told that I had no concussion, but that I should rest and take pain meds, and follow up with my PCM. I followed those instructions, but continued to experience severe nausea, migraines and dizziness throughout the week--the effects of which, at times, were incapacitating. A week after my accident I was able to get an appointment with my PCM, Dr. Jeremy Coleman at UF Health Family Medicine Yulee. (He is EXCELLENT) Dr. Coleman is trained in Sports Medicine, and told me in no uncertain terms that I had gotten a concussion and was still suffering from the effects of one. He mentioned that the people at UF Health North should have held me overnight for observation. He then had me run through a concussion assessment tool to ensure his diagnosis. (I NEVER got this at UF Health North. I would have definitely failed the assessment should I have been given it that night.) At the end of my appointment he gave me a new care protocol, and I'm very slowly starting to feel better. So, to summarize: I never received a wristband--which could have been a deadly mistake should I have been unconscious with nobody around to advocate for me; Nobody cleaned my cut, nor was it even closely looked at; I nearly choked on my pill due to lax procedures and the Nurse's inattention; I was left without easy access to medication due to hospital policies; AND I had an undiagnosed concussion which has severely affected my quality of life since the accident. True professionals. From the time we set up the appointment for consultation until the time procedure was actually completed. They were true professionals and operated it like a well oiled machine. They even had free valet parking. read more

Lindsay Putnam, ARNP I was scheduled to see this provider on a Tuesday at 3:00. I would be a new patient to this provider, however not new to the University of Florida health system as I have seen another physician in an affiliated practice. I arrived for my appointment actually at 3:12 and was checked into the front desk at 3:15 (the receptionist was on the phone when I arrived to her window). At 3:25 I was going to the front desk from the receptionist and told that the provider Lindsey Putnam would not be able to see me today because of my tardiness. Yes, I was 12 minutes late for my appointment and being stuck in traffic or not having a clue that I needed to park in the ramp is nobody's fault but my own. However, it is now 4:11 PM and I'm still standing at the front desk inquiring about a resolution or rescheduled appointment. This office is beyond disorganized and it is probably a blessing in disguise that I am not seeing a provider that has no sense of work ethic in an effort to appease her patients. If at all possible, you may want to choose a different practice and not be at the mercy of a lazy and work-shy provider. If it were possible to leave 0 stars, I would. read more

I had a surgical procedure with one night in the hospital recently and I was amazed at the kindness, efficiency, and professionalism of everyone in this hospital. The pre-op process was very quick and I woke up in recovery and stayed one night. The nurses were amazing and my surgeon was absolutely superb. Dr. Mike Freidl performed my knee surgery and as a trauma, emergency medicine RN I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon. My knee felt better immediately after surgery and he is easy to talk to and he explained everything. I was hospitalized shortly after, unrelated and he had PT orders for me at a different UF hospital. Great patient care follow thru. read more
