Because…read moreRhinelander is a rather small city, there are not as many clock repair shops available as in Milwaukee, for example. I found this company by researching on the Internet. My request was, I think, a bit unusual: a friend, who had taken our grandfather clock apart and had taken the parts out of state to a repair shop where he lives, was unable to come back to the Rhinelander area to put the clock back together. I thus contacted Stacy, the owner of this wonderful shop, and told him of my situation; I then asked for his (hopeful) help in putting this clock back together. Despite having a very crowded schedule and a very wide-ranging territory, Stacy was able to fit me into his schedule. When Stacy arrived at our home, he immediately went to work on the clock, explaining every step to me and highlighting the details of this clock's manufacture. The depth and breadth of his experience are amazing. Further, Stacy treated this clock as if it were his own. Just as important, he was very patient, kind, and friendly with me, his client. Stacy's price was very reasonable, particularly considering his knowledge and experience. I wish we had more clocks to repair - Stacy is THAT good. He may do a bit of work on watches, but I'm not completely sure about that. I cannot say enough good things about Stacy. If/When we have any clock (or maybe watch) repairs that need to be done - and done correctly the first time - we're taking those items to Stacy, to the Wind Me Up Clock Shop in Rhinelander - and nowhere else. If/When the time comes that we need a new clock, we're also going only to him. Stacy mentioned that his wife had urged him to go into the clock repair profession full-time; after an extended period of time, he did that. I am thankful that he acted on her guidance. He even talked me through fixing some issues I was having with my cuckoo a few weeks after he got it up and running and followed up with a phone call to make sure his tips fixed the problem. I don't know what the going price is for clock repairs, but the cost seemed fair to me, he gives free quotes, and when he needed to increase the price of my repair (very slightly), he gave me a call to confirm before going ahead. I would definitely choose Wind Me Up Clock Shop for any future clock repairs.

He recommended replacing the movement rather than repairing it because it had some serious damage (due to my poor maintenance) and Tim noted the company has made improvements to the mechanism. He gave me a quote on what it would cost, which included the driving time. He came back with the new movement a couple weeks later and installed it and explained the updates the company had made to the mechanism (which are very nice). The bill was what he quoted, and much cheaper than buying a new clock. It has worked fine since, and sounds better now than it ever did before. Highly recommend him!

Brought in a 41 year old anniversary grandfather clock for 2 issues. Fix the chimes & to identify a…read moreweight drop clunk. The chimes were fixed to satisfaction. He did not even look at the 2nd issue. After getting the clock home I noticed the #1 had been knocked off the face and super glued back on. Super glue was all over the number and face area. The clock smith admitted he had done the damage. But would not pay to remove the superglue or the face of the clock. He did not disclose the damage he had done at time of pick up. He charged full price for the chime repair and cleaning. I now have a very devalued clock I purchased for our 1st year anniversary. I find the unreported damage and willingness to correct it to be dishonest.

Originally I had him install a water main shutoff and I liked him so much I had him replace the main stack and rough in plumbing throughout the house. From this point on I realized what a lousy businessman Randy is. During his initial time here giving me an estimate he told me he would get the necessary permits and I don't need to worry. When you call R and R Plumbing you will reach Randy's wife Dawn. If you call there in the morning she will answer the phone, but is always pre occupied talking to her crew and complaining about how busy she is. If you call in the afternoon Dawn may or may not answer and if she does she is "away from her desk" and may or may not return your call. Randy was very quick to say he could find a better toilet that I could buy in store. I said ok great do you have a picture because I don't want just any toilet? Nope. "I will have the guys pull one out of the box and have Dawn send you a pic" That never happened. Even after asking a second and third time, I said the hell with it and found one myself. Moving along, I wanted a washtub installed in the basement and it was the same line as before. "I can find you one way better than you can find in the store" Okay great get me one. That never happened either. Not only did Dawn keep sending me an invoice for $100 or so that I had already paid and previously disputed, I repeatedly asked her for my current invoice. She said I should have gotten it but she would "look into it and get back to me" As you can probably guess by now, that didn't happen either. I had to call her again to request it be sent again AND ask her about the permit Randy said he would get. I had to ask because by this time I was fed up and hired a new plumber. This is where the story takes a nice turn. I have never done a renovation before and it would have been nice to be told that I needed to have an inspection done by the city. I am guessing he didn't mention it because he never got the permits they told me they would. When I called him out on this to Dawn she gave me some lame story about how she rubs elbows with the people that work for the city and its "actually not a big deal" She told me worse case scenario I would get a small fine, no big deal. Obviously she doesn't have an attorney because mine assured me that was NOT the case. Moving along, she LIED to me AGAIN on the phone and said Randy just took care of it. She asked if I would like to schedule more work and I said no thank you. After having a quality plumber look at Randy's crappy work he rolled his eyes and said "this is not good" The main stack had been hacked so many times it looked like a kid took 50 pieces of random pipe and glued them together. After telling the new plumber what I was doing in the bathroom he said he has know idea wtf Randy's plan was but he would have to redo all his work. This included replacing the stack again and properly roughing in the bathroom with the rest of the work I needed finished. He pointed out pipes glued together crooked and even broken fittings. I wouldn't recommend Randy to work on ANYTHING! Call ANYONE besides R and R Plumbing. I wish I had, it cost me THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!

He quickly undertone problem and fixed it in under an hour. They also recommended a water damage remediation company that was there in under an hour to repair that damage. We've used R and R plumbing several times over the years. They've been very prompt, efficient, effective and the bills were always reasonable.
