The two ladies running the office and fitting the glasses were both very nice and professional. Everything was super quick and convenient. Plus they had a nice selection of glasses. I am glad that I switched to this office from one of the bigger ones where I had to wait eons and deal with some rude ladies to just get a pair of reading glasses. I am happy that small offices like this exist where you can be seen close to your appointment time because they haven't overbooked and everyone is nice and getting your eyes checked isn't some dreaded chore any longer.

Strauss has a small, quaint office. He is seemingly quiet at first(but quite witty once you get to know him). I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was blown away by how comprehensive his examination was. He has strong diagnostic skills and he also got me in the most comfortable lenses I've ever worn. If you live in this area and you need a full doctor medical exam, this is the office you want to go to. Between Dr. Harry Halscheid and his knowledgeable & friendly staff (hi Pam & Debbie), I have been well taken care of for all this time. I have had a long history of issues with my eyes, and was always cautioned to pay attention whenever or if I see bright flashing lights. Thankfully, I didn't travel this Thanksgiving weekend, and I was able to get Dr Reto's attention right away when I was seeing something not right. Through a series of phone calls and text messages we concluded I likely had a retinal tear or detachment. Dr. Reto came in on a Sunday morning after Thanksgiving, and drew his conclusion of a retina tear and put me in touch with an on call retina surgeon (Dr. Saran). Two top notch (no interns here) on call doctors on a Sunday! This tag team surely prevented me from potentially getting a detachment and / or losing the vision in my left eye! I am sure Dr Steinbach is still a fine doctor - but you can't get an appointment. I called as soon as I received a reminder card and was pushed out three months! The central reception service said "they were very busy because of back to school". Well, two weeks before the appt, I needed to reschedule - and was pushed out another two months. The women that I spoke with were rude and uncaring - very different from the previous office staff. Additionally, they don't run a cancellation list. Dr Steinbach is a fine optometrist, but certainly not worth waiting five months for a regular eye exam. As a long time customer, I find the changes in staff, process and service here disheartening. I was told talk to manager who was not there at that time. I sat, I waited. At 1200 I asked for my most recent prescription which I was given. Then she pointed to the person helping a customer and said that was the manager. She could have told the manager that someone wanted to speak with them, but she didn't. I choose to support local businesses, however, with Dr Ammon semi retired his people and the customer interaction has slid. For three years I have been a customer as was my daughter and my deceased husband. We we no longer use Hockessin Eyeworks.

There was no rushing the remake and I did not receive my glasses for another +2 weeks. I called on a Friday and was told they'd be in on Monday. By 3 pm Monday, I called again to check. I was told they "hadn't gotten a chance" to check in the shipment. While I was on the phone, the person did open the box and confirmed my glasses had arrived and I could stop by and pick them up. When I arrived, my glasses still hadn't been "checked in". They were quite pleasant when my order was taken, but the service I received after that was poor, at best. Fortunately, the glasses are great.
