Cute little road side restaurant with ample parking. If…read moreyou are passing by, I would definitely stop by for a quick meal. They are known for their biscuits and burgers. So that what we tried. They serve breakfast all day and offer carry out. Walking in, it was the standard, small town welcome. Everyone (staff and patrons) looks at you and stares. Even after you say hello, they just stare at you. As a person of color who has been refused service in a small town restaurant (Lynchburg VA) I get really self conscious. I was not sure if was order up or seat yourself. There were no signs or staff instructions. Luckily our friendly and lovely waitress ( Mickey) acknowledged my wife and I. We got our seat and ordered. Lots of seating options. Can seat groups of up to 6. The menu has lots of options, but even more are posted on the wall...they have something for everyone. The portions are big and prices are very decent. Our waitress was friendly but slow only because she was the only one in the front and the place was packed it took over an hour to get our food. Having time to sit ana wait for our food. It appeared that the kitchen staff was new and the morning staff ended their shift as we got there. So with lack of proper turn over, there was a bit of confusion. The food was OK. Nothing to spectacular but not bad or poor quality. They had scrapple which is hard to find.

Seneca Rocks is in the mountains, and attracts a variety of outdoor enthusiasts, including hikers, rock climbers, fishermen, campers, motorcyclists, and more. And, Yokum's, in business since 1923, and with a family history in the area since the 1830s, is THE hot spot to feed and supply visitors to this beautiful area. It's a casual and reasonably-priced kind of place with historical charm; there's a constant flow of visitors. The General Store offers pretty much anything you would need for a trip to the mountains -- from coonskin hats, to firewood, ice, pantry items, drinks, snacks, and West Virginia souvenirs (including t-shirts, refrigerator magnets, jams and jellies, and so much more). The Grill offers breakfast items (breakfast burritos, bagels, muffins), as well as typical grill items -- burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, pizza, wraps, etc. Of particular note, they've been named as having the state's "2nd best West Virginia-style hot dogs" on the "50 best hot dog trail." The Grill offers both indoor and a few covered front porch tables. We had, however, visited Yokum's for two very specific reasons -- (1) we had just hiked the Seneca Rocks Trail, and wanted to reward ourselves with ice cream! On that note, we found a freezer with all sorts of ice cream treats in the General Store. My husband opted for a pint of Hershey's Cappuccino Crunch premium ice cream. (We had a freezer for the unconsumed portion!), while I chose a Dove ice cream bar. We later realized that, based on reviews on Yelp, the Grill *might* have offered hand-scooped cones but we hadn't checked. (2) we heard that Yokum's has Wi-Fi, a luxury that wasn't available in the National Recreation Area nor anywhere else for at least ten miles. We were able to sit at one of the indoor tables near the Grill, enjoying our ice creams while utilizing the free wi-fi to send a few texts and to plug in some maps for the next leg of our journey. Also worth noting is that Yokum's has an excellent view of the Seneca Rocks rock formation, is in close proximity to the entrances for the Seneca Rocks Visitors Center and the main hiking trail, has easy access off nearby roads and sufficient free parking, offers a clean restroom, and has some large outdoor signs describing local outdoor attractions. Staff were efficient and friendly enough. Yokum's also runs Yokum's Vacationland, offering a variety of accommodations including cabins, bunkhouses, teepees, a motel, and a campground., as well as Yokum's Stables. We didn't visit either.

We arrived around 5:30 on a busy Thursday night. It's not a big place, and there were already 2 tables of 6+ people & several tables of 2-4. We actually got the last available table. It's worth the wait, but there was a long wait. I think there was only one person in the kitchen and they really had a hard time getting all the orders out for the two large group tables. However, our server was friendly and efficient, considering it was just her and one other server, waiting on everyone and doing the bartending. She replenished water often and got me a new beer whenever I needed one. She got our appetizer of onion petals out quickly, but then it was over an hour wait for our other food. We were a little disappointed that they were out of the pork rinds and they were also out of the elk burger tonight which were of the things we were looking forward to trying. The onion petals were very good. They did have elk sliders so my husband ordered those. We enjoyed them, more flavorful & not gamey like venison. I ordered a patty melt since I had not had one of those in ages. By the time our food arrived the bar was also full, but by now it was going on 7pm. So, we did enjoy our visit & liked all the food & we'd eat there again. Others would have been obviously bothered by the long wait for the food, but we were on vacation and we were not in a hurry. Despite being super busy our server was kind & didn't seem stressed out.
