This is actually the first time I've had such a strong physical reaction. Most traditional Thai restaurants use fresh Thai chilies when making papaya salad, not large amounts of ground chili powder, because chili powder creates a much harsher, burning heat on the stomach rather than the normal fresh chili heat. I ordered spice level 4 expecting something moderate, but it felt closer to what would be level 9-10 at many Thai restaurants. There was no warning that the spice level was based on chili powder rather than fresh chilies. After eating, I experienced severe stomach burning, dizziness, and almost fainted, which has never happened to me from Thai food before. Information for the chef (from someone Thai, hoping this helps): Fresh chilies and chili powder create different types of heat. Chili powder is made from dried chilies, which concentrates capsaicin (the compound that causes burning). It also often contains more crushed seeds and inner membranes, which hold the highest capsaicin levels. Because it is finely ground, it spreads more evenly and can coat the mouth and stomach, causing a deeper and harsher burning sensation compared to the sharper but cleaner heat from fresh chilies typically used in traditional som tam. I would strongly recommend that the restaurant clarify how their spice levels work and what type of chili they use so customers can make informed choices. Thai food can be spicy, but it shouldn't come as a surprise in a way that causes physical distress. As someone from Thailand, this was not the typical type of spice we associate with authentic som tam. My mom also own Papaya Salad restaurant in Thailand. I know how to make my own dish. This is not authentic and not a good Thai food. 4 5555

I love Thai food and am very picky. Do yourself a favor and go to this restaurant…read more Food: I was with a group of 7 and we tried different dishes. Chicken Laab/ Larb: Sooooo goood!!!! Got it "spicy, like Thai" and it's the best larb I've had in a long long time. Do yourself a favor and get it. Khao Soy: Very rich, almost massaman-like base. Worth getting again. The orderer got medium spice instead of high spice and regretted it. Pork Pad Thai: wonderful. Make sure to squeeze the lime and spread the crunchy peanuts. some of the best pad Thai I've had in a long time. Not too sweet (though it was a bit sweet- tasted like natural tamarind sweet, not a tablespoon of sugar sweet), and not too peanut buttery. The noodles were just right, not too greasy, not al dente and not gloopy. The orderer got mild and it tasted fine as it was. I added some powdered chilies for my tasting and loved it. Duck plate (forget the actual name): duck had a very crispy, flaky skin and the sauce it was in was good. The orderer wished they had ordered it with a bit more spice (they got medium spice) Fried rice: didn't try it. Looked like a Chinese style fried rice and the orderer seemed to have enjoyed it (but also seemed jealous of the other food on the table). The orderer got medium spice and wished she had gotten more. The dumplings and satay looked good too, but I didn't get to sample them. Service: the waiter warns you about the 10/10 spice level, relatively quick in getting out food, and attentive enough with water and needs (we ended up ordering more food and accidentally dropping silverware, etc). We ended up asking to bring out more spice and the orderer obliged with some dried and pestled chilies for our table to share. Ambiance: The inside of the restaurant is clean despite being in a run down looking strip mall with a dollar general and a takeout Chinese restaurant next door. The inside is sparsely and simply decorated with a picture of the old king, some basic tapestries you might buy at a tourist market in Thailand, some dolls, and some bright, flashy LEDs in one of the windows. Don't let this dissuade you. THE FOOD IS SO GOOD! 5/5 means it is worth the hour there and back drive to eat here. I will do it again and actively suggest to my friends to eat here if we are looking for a place to go. Summary: For Thai restaurants, I almost always try a curry/ soup, pad Thai/ pad se eew, and a larb/ Nam tok/ beef waterfall. This one nailed all three.

Still amazing food and excellent service. We got to eat here again while in town, and it was even…read morebetter than before. Got the same as before (panang curry & drunken noodles) plus a crispy tofu app with a delicious dipping sauce. Everything was super flavorful. Can't wait to go again!
