I went to Miller's with some friends for drinks. My friend's selling intro to Miller's of course included a bit about Dave Matthews. I was guided to Millers by my sister who suffers from a severe DMB addiction. Apparently Dave was a bartender there and used to play frequently. I popped in for a beer and lunch while I was in town for a wedding. I was promptly greeted by Sean the bartender, a chill local guy who seemingly ran the place and struck up a nice convo with some stories about Dave and their popular Thursday night jams. I ordered a beer (20oz PBR draft during happy hour) and the plate of the Memphis hot chicken. The beer was perfectly poured and just tasted better from an old tap like at Millers. The hot chicken was suprisingly delicious as well. Definitely a step up from standard pub tenders. They use big pieces of boneless chicken breast, deep fried and doused in seasoning and spices. Served with a huge serving of seasoned fries, it was definitely enough food for one, maybe two people. After I ate I had another beer and chatted with the bartender and some locals. I Definitely recommend popping in during happy hour or Thursday nights for the live music. read more

Ok. Definitely a cool old bar (very dark inside) and definitely a place that would be good to waste the afternoon away trying local craft beer. Unfortunately, we were there to eat. Not extremely busy when we sat down (outside) and we were immediately approached about drinks. This is where the train started to become derailed. Long store short, the waitress really seemed to be going thru the motions and our food took awhile to get to table. We had to basically ask for everything we needed for our meal (refills, condiments, etc) that she made us feel like we were really putting her out. Three stars for the food only. Most awful service of any establishment. We ordered nachos without beef and chicken instead and got charged a 50% surprise surcharge. No warning. Beer ordered that the waitress indicated was 0.75 on happy hour tuned out to be $4. When we asked we were told it was our fault of not reading the prices and the fine print. I been coming to Millers for years. Wait staff that has "I don't want to be here" looks on their face, and seem annoyed that they have to serve you has always been present. Further more you always have to chase the wait staff down to see who is serving your section. All the locals I have known over the years have agreed to this. Yesterday I went there and as usual I had to chase down a waitress. Larrissa gave me a menu and walked by for 30 minutes not asking me if I wanted anything from it before I finally had to leave. She had two other woman helping her wait on like 10 people outside. Rhianna and the new girl. Now it's not any of their faults for real. Millers had this problem for years before any of those women started working there. How can I think it's not management? How can the wait staff be terrible on a consistent basis if Mike ( the one who runs things for the owner) is doing what he is supposed to? I have been friends with a lot of the people to work their and even met and drank with one of the owners a few years back. I hate to say anything bad about Millers. But, come on man. That place has terrible service, and has for years. it's not a club house. Those people are at work. Why do they snub customers like that? I"m a business owner. I know what the deal is. You can't watch everyone all the time. Now you know. Something needs to be done. read more

What a great place! We chose to come on a rainy day and the place was pretty empty, but the service and food were awesome. this is a decent dive, and their happy hour beer prices were VERY good. the food was so-so, but pricy for what you get--i had catfish (tiny portion, more breading than fish), grits (good, but i'm not a grits expert), and a salad (edible but meh), all for $9.50. on the other hand, the band they had ROCKED. a sax, a bass, and drums, don't know if they're regulars or not. they fucking rocked though. read more

Had to stop by here while I was in Charlottesville, VA since this where DMB began. It is surprisingly small considering it is a "music venue". It definitely has a local atmosphere and has it's regular patrons. They have a good beer selection, I can't comment on the food as I did not eat there. Typical dive bar setting with a lot of live music. It is a great dive bar with a nice beer selection and good bartenders. The bar in very narrow, so it gets crowded quickly and when the bands start, it gets really loud. Great place to grab a beer anytime, just be ready for a potentially rowdy and loud crowd if there is a band. They also have nice outdoor seating here and is a great brunch spot. read more

A decent lunch spot for the walking street with ample outdoor seating and satisfying food. I ordered a salad and appreciated the ample, fresh greens, generous cheese/bacon toppings and well-paired dressing. We wanted something quick and tasty after a day of brewery tours. Miller's seemed to fit the bill. Wrong! I think we got the short stick with our server. It took about 15 minutes to get beer, we placed an order for the fried pretzels (which were the highlight, SO odd but delicious), took forever for those, then our waitress disappeared for no joke 30 minutes. Never saw her again, and had to ask the other very attentive server in our section for our tab. But that aside, the beer list is pretty good, very local, but pricey (isn't this a college town? How do kids afford $7 pours?). The food too was much pricier than at first glance, all a la carte. Start with a $7.99 burger, but cheese is $2, bacon was $2.59 (that better be a LOT of bacon), sides were $3-4... if I'd gotten a burger with two toppings and fries, it would've been over $15. Great little smokey bar. It's what a real, old fashioned bar should look like. LONG bar, narrow room, smoke. Food is pretty good, and pretty cheap. Good beer prices. Especially at happy hour. It's fun to sit outside when the weather's nice. BUT if you do sit outside, know that your service will probably be a bit worse. In Charlottesville to visit Monticello and dropped into Miller's Downtown for dinner. The pub atmosphere is comfortable and adds to the experience. The food was amazing! I had the Beyond Burger. It was loaded with cheese and a double slice of onion with lettuce and tomato. The side of chips were cooked perfectly. Just the right amount of crunch without being overlooked. We are going back again tonight to try some of the other menu items before we head on to our next destination. Great beer list. Tasty fish and chips. The fish was a beer-battered (alluded to PBR in the menu) cod. Batter was light and crisp. Cod was light and flaky. Fries were dusted in a Cajun seasoning. Friendly and quick service. If it's winter make sure to sit back from the dour or in the second floor. It was unseasonably cold on our visit and sitting near the front door, along the bar we consistently got blasted by cold air whenever the door opened. read more

Miller's is your typical bar, and I don't have any incredible memories from my evenings there, but they are all fond memories nonetheless. I had my first 21-year-old drink there (ahem, I mean, my first ever drink), and I always really enjoyed the live jazz there. It is a chill place, and the upstairs area with the pool tables is great for a night when you have nothing to do, and just want to hang out with friends. Miller's is just a cool bar. I'm impressed by their massive beer list. Ordered the 109 Nachos and the waiter asked us if we knew what we were getting ourselves into...he was worried the 4 of us wouldn't be able to finish it. Well, the nachos came out in a giant skillet, with lots of BACON on top, and we dug in. Not sure we could have finished it but luckily a 5th friend joined us to help. Our waiter was great, and it is a nice place to get a beer and an app. I also enjoy it a lot more now that the main floor is non-smoking. They also have a nice outdoor patio. read more

I only deduct a star for the uneven quality of the outdoor service, which can occasionally be great, and other times highly inattentive. (Really, I'm not high-maintenance. But when I order a beer as my hot wings and jalapeno hush puppies arrive, and the beer doesn't arrive until 25 minutes later when I've finished my food, my core temperature has risen to 103 degrees, and I'm seriously considering lapping water from the babbling fountain in the middle of the courtyard like an overheated labrador, well... that particular episode wasn't cool.)
