This is in the same genre of restaurant/menu offerings as the Korner Restaurant and Riverside - so expect no frills, simple, easy and casual. Their burgers are no joke. They do a great job. Prices are low and it is easy to order everything and understand their menu. The Philly cheesesteak might be the best from local cville restaurants (sorry, nothing is touching my Jersey Mikes chipotle cheesesteak). When you first walk in you are treated to a welcome to Canipe. The atmosphere is so amazing and fresh. They play music while you eat and enjoy some time talking to friends and loved ones, but it's not too loud. The food is out of this world . Everything about this place is incredible. This place was a food emporium waiting to be discovered by my father and me when we were on our way to an appointment nearby. The reviews we looked up were on point and our selections were just as fantastic. The setup is a type Bar and Grill, with seating at the bar and. A few tables away from the bar in an alcove area. My father's wheel chair was easy to maneuver inside and right to the first table. Service was very quick and had our drink order and drinks in less than 2 minutes. I ordered the Cold Cut Club with fries and my father ordered the 1/4 lb. Bacon cheeseburger with fries. Both arrived within 8 minutes of ordering and the servings of fries were hot, crisp and plentiful, more than we could eat in one sitting. The Burger was perfectly cooked with all the right toppings and loaded with flavor. The Club sub was piled high on a 6" sub roll with fresh greens and sliced tomatoes, which looked like they were sliced with a dull chef knife as it was one very think slice cut in 1/2. Much better than those expensive overpriced NYC diners. When you first walk in, you seat yourself anywhere and the nice waitresses will come and take your order. The service is amazing and the burgers, fries, and tater tots are great superb. The burgers soak up all the alcohol. I got the MONSTER BURGER (1.5 lbs of meat with B/L/T/M/O.) for $15.50. Awsome find. Carolyn and her husband have a quaint sports bar attached to a convenience store. She is the sweetest lil thing, constantly on the go!! It's a Bar & Grill with that awsome local hometown feel. I ordered the 1lb monster burger, all the way and upgraded to the platter; which comes with 1 LG & 1 SM side of your choice. The beef patties are not prepackaged frozen patties, they are pattied in house and soooooooo good. I thought of getting the Beast burger which is 1-1/2 lb burger but was working and had to make sure I didn't fall asleep haha. But both have bacon, cheese, LTMO. The tea, I get 1/2 & 1/2 and it was steeped long and not overly sweet; some fiiiiiiiiine tea if ya ask me. I'm comin back Carolyn and Jeb (forgive me if I'm wrong). Food was incredibly priced, and delicious. My husband and I both had the Philly, Mac salad and potato wedges. Everything was fresh tasting, the wedges and Philly were still nice and warm when we got home so I know it would have been even more delicious if we had eaten in. I used to frequent this building when it was Big Jim's. To my surprise it is now Canipe Brothers. I ordered the hamburger steak, potato salad and mashed potatoes. The good was very good. Simple, but good. We also got the bacon cheeseburger... AMAZING! Then there is the deep fried yeast rolls! OMG! The tenderness if the roll sets the taste to another level. The establishment was clean and digital distanced as best they could in such a small space. The door was open for better ventilation. I returned to get the foot long hot dog. I always get mustard onions and chili on my dog wherever I go. It was really tasty. Their chili is good. I also ordered the catfish... It was a bit dry, needed different seasonings, but who goes to a bar and grill for cat fish. Im pleased with this restaurant and will return again. read more
