Come for the food, stay for the folks…read more Recently moved to Upstate NY and decided I should go on a chicken wing tour of the area. I mean, these people know wings. Running errands in this area and dropped in to try Memphis King's (1st time visit) I always get the same wings (hot buffalo) at each restaurant/bar to keep things fair. Memphis King's wings are smoked, then fried. I've found that you lose a lot of smoke flavor when they're fried to order but these had just the right amount still present. Very tasty. And crispy! (a lot of smoked wings are grilled but, while delicious, it doesn't render enough of the skin to make them crispy and I like crisp!) I've sampled wings from about 30 places (so far) and I would whole heartedly put Memphis King's in my top 10 for sure. Looking forward to trying their other items because their burnt ends look great. As does the house made pastrami *droooool* As for the people, the gal in front of house was wonderful. And the chef (not sure if he was the owner or not) was so nice. Kept checking in on me to see how everything was and kept offering me suggestions and samples. Not pushy, just smart business because I'm 100% gonna go back.

They were very large sandwiches, but herd was mire like pot roast that brisket. And the pork was lacking in flavor. The sweet sauce was thin snd mire like a tomato sauce. Cole slaw was OK snd she said the mac and cheese was very good. The prices were very good but the food quality overall was barely 2 stars. We took most if the meat home to the dog.

The brisket was perfectly smoked, juicy, and packed with flavor. The pulled pork was tender and delicious, and the fire sausage had just the right amount of heat without overpowering the smoky goodness. The potato salad was fresh and flavorful, and the mac & cheese was rich, creamy, and the perfect side to complete the meal. Great food, generous portions, and friendly service. You can tell they put a lot of pride into what they do. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the Catskills. Highly recommended!

You order at the register and take your very large portioned plates wherever you'd like to sit. There are quite a few baked goods right at the register which looked great but I restrained myself, this time. I ordered the 4 rib platter which came with two sides. I got the mac & cheese and pickled beets. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and had good flavor. They give you a side of BBQ sauce in case you wanted some. The mac & cheese seemed like it was baked which is a plus for me. The only drawback is that it needed a little more flavor. Maybe a sharper, more flavorful cheese would help. I just put some salt and pepper on it and that helped a ton. The pickled beets were as expected - and I love beets! The platter also comes with a mini cornbread LOAF! Seriously, it's a good size mini. It was delicious, slightly sweet, and contained corn kernels. Also, a side of sliced pickles come with the platter and any sandwich. We were warned that they were spicy today and that was the truth! It was a bit over $40 for so much good food. We had to box up some of the food and it can definitely feed another person. Also, service was friendly and fast. I'd come back to try more items - probably including one of those baked goods :)

Having lived in charlotte for a bit traveling across the southeast for work I have eaten a lot of bbq, and there really is not much good bbq in the entire northeast. I have gone to many 4.5 rated places and been completely underwhelmed with the offerings. I didn't really like giving negative reviews which is why I stopped posting, but I wouldn't give any bbq place I've been in the northeast above 3 stars being generous. This is probably the best brisket I have had since moving back north. Juicy and fatty slices. No sauce needed at all. Just pure melt in your mouth brisket. This probably wouldn't be a 5 in Texas, but I would still rather eat here if I was in Texas than wait in a 3 hour line. In the northeast, the brisket is probably the best I've had. Can't comment on sauces or sides since I only got 1lb of brisket and a half slab of ribs. I do like the ribs I smoke better, but I still think they are a 5 for the northeast. Check their google listing because as of July they are also open on Wednesday for the summer at least. I really expect very little from bbq up here and that brisket reminded me of some of my travels thru the Carolinas, Georgia and Texas. I have not been to a place before that even remotely reminded of good southern bbq.

This time we brought another couple of friends with us and ordered a full platter. It was served up in a matter of minutes and it incredibly completely filled three platters with assorted barbecue, including a full rack of ribs, pulled pork, sliced turkey, a quarter chicken and bratwurst, not to mention sliced pickles and rolls. Of course we selected three sides to come with it (which were included): a nice smoked potato salad, cider coleslaw, and cider braised sautéed greens. We added two homemade sauces, peach chipotle and applejack. Well the ribs were smoked using applewood and were so tender the meat fell off the bone. Everything was delicious and the sauces were superb which came as no surprise since they were made using fruit from the restaurant's adjoining farm. To wash it down we ordered an apple cider slushy which was thick with flavor. Again, no surprise, as there is an apple orchard on the farm. We were so stuffed that we joyfully took about half of the food home with us! I've enjoyed barbecue for a number of decades, including down in Memphis, and I must say that this no-frills restaurant with outdoor and indoor picnic table seating can play in the same league as some of the more renowned barbecue joints, certainly in the Capital and Hudson Valley regions. Come see yourself and while you're at it, check out an amazing distillery next-door as well as the wonderful adjoining farmstand (cider doughnuts!).

We ordered a half rack of ribs to split, waiting about 15-minutes for our name to be called (too long for two people frothing at the mouth for it). The ribs came undressed, but you could help yourself to as much sauce as you like at the counter. We tried both the apple and chipotle sauces, preferring the former, which was sweet and smokey. It paired perfectly with the tender, fatty ribs. When I think back on it as I am right now, I salivate. My husband also ordered their brisket sandwich (available only on Sundays), which looked just as appetizing as the ribs. The meat was cooked wonderfully medium rare with a charred exterior and a slightly pink interior. My husband ate that heartily. It was one of our favorite bites of the trip. I'm envious of my past self for enjoying that meal while I sit here now, craving it but unable to have it again.

I stop here whenever I'm in upstate NY to pick up bottles of this scrumptious sauce to bring home. This trip, I was delighted to find they had deep-sixed the "meh" buffet & now offered a full menu, including appetizers & desserts. A half chicken dinner ($19) includes their salad bar, a loaf of their homemade bread & one side. If you're not into chicken, which is what they're known for, they also offer ribs, brisket & other charbroiled meats. The salad bar had a good selection & everything tasted fresh & crisp. Their bread loaf is soft, white & served warm with whipped butter. We also ordered an appetizer of hush puppies, which were delicious with the whipped cinnamon butter that came with them. I chose baked beans for my side dish. Tasty & a good complement to the chicken. The chicken... perfectly charred, smoky, tender... wow!!! So delicious. Now for the weird part... we had leftovers & asked for take away containers. Our server brought us each a plastic box for the chicken. I asked for a small covered cup to take the rest of the beans & was told they don't give those out in the dining room. That was part of the meal I was paying for, so I asked her to please ask management if I could have a container. She came back with one but said, "We made an exception this time, but don't let it happen again." What?!? If it hadn't been for this, I would have rated it 5 stars.
