When my husband and I visited this smokehouse, we were on the last day of our Upstate trip. As a barbecue lover living in the city where it's often expensive and strangely absent from many menus, I simply couldn't leave without getting myself a plate. We ordered a half rack of ribs to split, waiting about 15-minutes for our name to be called (too long for two people frothing at the mouth for it). The ribs came undressed, but you could help yourself to as much sauce as you like at the counter. We tried both the apple and chipotle sauces, preferring the former, which was sweet and smokey. It paired perfectly with the tender, fatty ribs. When I think back on it as I am right now, I salivate. My husband also ordered their brisket sandwich (available only on Sundays), which looked just as appetizing as the ribs. The meat was cooked wonderfully medium rare with a charred exterior and a slightly pink interior. My husband ate that heartily. It was one of our favorite bites of the trip. I'm envious of my past self for enjoying that meal while I sit here now, craving it but unable to have it again. read more

Another nice addition to Golden Harvest, and a spot I had picked out to try while researching the area. The photos online looked amazing, but unfortunately, I don't think it lived up to expectations. Being next door to their marketplace, the space has a laid-back vibe--bright, well-lit, and it smells really good. The two people working the front (one taking orders, the other handing out food) were friendly and welcoming, which was a nice touch. We ordered the ribs, brisket, bratwurst, potato salad, mac & cheese, and fries. Of the meats, the brisket was probably the best--good bark, and not dry. The bratwurst was very dry and definitely needed the mustard. The ribs were far too salty, and I wasn't a fan of their peach BBQ sauce. The sides were pretty solid. The mac & cheese was okay, though it could've used a bit more seasoning. The potato salad was solid, and the fries were good. The pickles that came with the entrees were also tasty. All in all, a bit disappointing. When the sides outshine the entrees, it says something. read more

We knew we already liked Harvest Smokehouse after our visit this Fall. But they have taken a step-up to earn another star. While they are usually closed during the Winter months, this year they are modifying their menu to also be known as Smokehouse Noods - as in Noodle Shop and staying open through the cold season. The menu consists of four Vietnamese Pho dishes along with sides, salads, and dessert. While we were picking up apples at the attached Golden Harvest we stepped next door to check out Noods. I offer my sympathy to the clerk freezing behind the counter because the area is not heated. You'd be brave to sit at a table to enjoy your Pho as it is VERY cold in there. But having to do takeout does not negatively impact the quality of the Pho in the least. My wife tried the Chicken Pho ($16) while I went with the Beef Pho ($16). Kudos to the owners for being socially conscious. The takeout containers for the Pho are made from 100% bamboo. Each serving will consist of four packages - the one-quart container of Pho broth with your choice of beef, chicken, or vegetables; a typical Asian takeout container with rice noodles; a plastic sandwich bag with bean sprouts, jalapeño slices, cilantro, and lime wedge; and a ramekin of hoisin and siracha sauces. Important TIP! There is no way you have room in the quart container to mix all the ingredients. You should pour the broth into a container that holds at least 5 cups of liquid, and preferably more. Chicken based broth is used for their chicken pho and beef broth for their beef pho. In the past, the best chicken pho I'd ever had was homemade with beef broth. So, I did notice a difference when tasting my wife's chicken pho. But it was still excellent. The fullness of flavors in both broths was absolutely outstanding. The beef brisket and rare beef in my pho was tender and delicious. Next visit will have to include a taste of the Matcha Churro donut and their Apple Cider Donut Bread Pudding. read more

Tourist review. This was one of two places we made a point of eating at more than once while we were in the area (the other was Dan's Diner, if you're curious). How I wish I lived up here and this could just be our weekend spot! First time, I got the bratwurst (amazing) and they had a special size of brussels sprouts with butternut squash in "cider honey" and honestly, those sprouts may have been my favorite thing to eat across the entire trip. My fiancé got the Hogzilla and devoured it, though I know he was longing for my bratwurst. When we came back, we just got a "snack" of the smoked turkey and a slice of Dutch apple pie to go. The turkey was good, and we wish we'd eaten more. The pie converted my fiancé to believing in apple pies. We also wandered over the distillery and had a flight of spirits, all of which impressed us. We sat on the covered porch under a wisteria vine enjoying a cider and beer apiece. In the market, the apple cider donuts were fantastic as well. read more

After reading Harvest Smokehouse's 4.4-star Yelp review, I expected them to be good, but the food definitely did not live up to the hype. I ordered brisket, which had a good bark on the outside and decent flavor. Unfortunately, it was dry and the bark was way too salty. My wife had the pulled pork. It was greasy and didn't have any taste. Our daughter got the smoked bratwurst, and she thought it was good. We did enjoy the fries; they were well-seasoned and not overly salty. The apple corn bread was way too dry, however. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because of the fries and bratwurst. Not worth the 30-minute drive for me. read more

Love golden harvest and the smokehouse- but noods was disappointing. The noodles came in a separate box and were a gelatinous square. The broth had an overpowering smell of cinnamon and cilantro. I ordered the boc choy addition. It was an entire head of overcooked boc choy- not cut up. The scallion pancakes had promise but were so undercooked they were squishy. We've always loved Golden Harvest for their cider donuts (we buy multiple orders to bring back to our family and friends in NYC every time we're upstate), fruits and veggies, plants, etc. Then, they added a distillery. And now, a smokehouse. And it's really good. Especially memorable were the jerk fries, smoked Mac and cheese, the ribs, and one of the best slaws I've ever had. This is the best BBQ I've found in New York State in my 5 years here -- and we moved from TX, so we like our BBQ. As evidence of how good we think it is, we live 3 hours away but we've been here multiple times. We've rotated through the brisket, pulled pork, and bratwurst. All have been excellent. The brisket is my measuring stick and it was very flavorful and moist. (Note it isn't on the regular menu -- it was a rotating special.) The bratwurst is yummy and the apple cider mustard adds a good bite. The pulled pork sandwich is my favorite, ever. Their slaw is slightly different (I'll credit the cider?) and it blends really well with the sandwich, instead of being very distinct from the pork when you take a bite. The first time we came for the distillery. Now the BBQ is the main attraction for us. Note there is only outdoor (but covered) seating. read more

I primarily eat ancestral/low carb/ketogenic/carnivore/no sugar/no grains (no allergies though) so my food choices and review is from that perspective and created to help folks like me looking for healthy restaurant foods! Harvest Smokehouse DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I'm a real critic because my hubby has a smoker and makes amazing things for me and I'm generally picky. I am also always hesitant to go to BBQ places because many slather their foods in sticky sweet sauces or very sweet dry rubs. Pictured here is a pound of smoked Turkey I got for lunches for the week and it was tender and juicy, 1/2 rack of St Louis ribs (coated in a fabulous low sugar rub and SO TENDER), a 1/2 pound of pulled pork which came unsauced , and 2 chicken thighs (which did have a sweet tasting sauce on them so I will save that for my family). They also had this BOMB jalapeño sauce for all my dipping needs. It's so nice to have a sauce that isn't disappointingly sweet (it might have had a little sugar, I couldn't be certain it was SF but I won't die with 1/16th t of sugar). On top of the excellent food, and beautiful atmosphere, the woman working at the counter was great. She was friendly, answered all my questions, we had friendly chit chat, she made great recommendations (jalapeño sauce!), let me bring my doggy on the patio and even occupied him a bit while I ate (she loves dogs). I can't wait to make an excuse to swing by this fabulous smokehouse. FYI for food/sugar addicts ... the smokehouse is connected to a cider donut factory / bakery and you can smell baked goods the whole time. Just letting you know! read more

"Hi, welcome to Harvest Smokehouse! What can I get you?" or "Thank you for visiting us!" are words we've never heard at Harvest Smokehouse since they first opened. We've also never received anything beyond a grunt or blank stare when asking a question about the menu items, or even when offering a compliment. We have, however, been treated discourteously and with a total lack of hospitality- we've also watched on as others experienced the same. All of which became a topic of conversation,today, with unknown guests at an adjacent table who overheard us discussing the rude cashier/order taker and admitted that they were left wondering whether it was them, personally, or if this was just the general vibe here... Sadly, it would seem to be the latter- and it's past time customers talk about it. The prices here are not cheap. When a customer orders at the counter,picks up at the counter, self seats, busses their own table yet still sees the option to leave a tip when paying, a smile and basic greeting, like "hello", are not unreasonable expectations. Some of this might be overlooked were the food beyond mediocre. It's not. BBQ and smoking meat is an art form, a blend of science and passion. When done perfectly, it is pure magic ! Anything less is, meh. Harvest Smokehouse finds itself firmly in the middle, but trending down. This place seems to operate by rote because it is a job for those involved and there is a profit margin to be maintained; it is very clearly not a passion, nor is there anything artful about their execution. Similarly, hospitality, when done well- with a concern and care for the guest experience, is so very enjoyable, creating a happy clientele who return and bring their friends. Anything less is, well, the experience we have here at Harvest Smokehouse every.single.time. Which did, finally, beg the question of why we return? Because it was, once, good food and it is close to us. I'm not sure those two reasons justify spending $35-40 on two sandwiches anymore. read more

Came here on a whim- a great choice! My lunch was delicious- pulled pork with slaw on unsugared donuts. (I could have had it on a bun - I'm sure that's delicious too!). There were a few BBQ sauces available, all made onsite. I had the apple based one, but there were some options with jalapeño for those who desire more kick. read more

Came here to grab a bite while looking to grab an apple pie for home. Ordered 2 jerk chicken thighs, an apple bratwurst, and a slice of apple pie. While the sausage was quite good, the chicken was somewhat dry and clearly had not been marinated for long; as the flavor only went skin deep. The worst of it though was the pie, which was very clearly pulled ice cold outta the fridge. Best ribs around, at a great price. Prompt, friendly service in a great country roadside stand. If you're up from the city or a local, it is a must. One visit and you'll be hooked. Although to meat meat choices are great, wonderful and unique vegetarian choices are featured also. And don't forget to get the house made sauces on the side!! As wonderful as the smokehouse is, I would be remiss not to mention the terrific farm stand that is partnered with it. Fresh fruit in season, local eggs, honey and maple syrup, you can't go wrong. Harvest is the gift that keeps on giving. Stopped down to harvest Smokehouse to give them a try. Ordered the Applewood Bratwurst, the TBC (turkey bacon cheese) sandwich and the smoked Mac and cheese. The brat came on a roll with red cabbage kraut and mustered. It was amazingly good. The TBC sandwich was generously decked out with a perfectly smoked chicken breast, lots of bacon, cheese and a cabbage slaw on a roll. I liked this place so much I called a friend and made plans to come down next week for an early dinner. I don't normally doll out 5 stars and since you can only give out whole stars I had to give them a 5. I can't wait to come back and try the ribs. Great fall ride. read more

We're a fan of Golden Harvest Orchard. Great apples and arguably the best cider donuts in the area. The distillery in back is top notch, with Core Vodka now a staple in my home bar. But i was skeptical about the recently opened BBQ operation that made its appearance over the summer. My wife and I decided to give it a try this evening, as we were in the area and didn't have any dinner plans. I gotta say, we were both very impressed. We ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs abd a 1/2 lbs of pulled pork for take-out. Both items came with a small piece of cornbread, and a BBQ sauce of your choice. The ribs were St. Lois style. They were nice sized and meaty, smoky and juicy. Easily stood up on their own, though the house special sauce was very good. The pulled pork was also excellent. This is the real deal, and some of the best BBQ I've had in a stretch. I'll be back to try their wurst and the chicken drumstick "wings". Give it a try. read more

The fries were not hot or crispy. They had way too much salt. When I mentioned this, they threw them back in the oil, and they still weren't very crisp. I don't think this is a sanitary practice especially during a pandemic. The pulled pork sandwich had very little flavor. I doubt that any of this was fresh. read more
