The Waitress Was Very Nice and She Gave Really Good Service. The food was really good. Very fair prices for great food.

You can tell this place has been around for a while due to the ceiling tiles all yellowed from smokers years ago, but that isn't what brought me here. A local suggested I give it a try so here I sit and eat the hotdogs with meat sauce. The service was a bit slow and the food was about what I expected for the price. This is definitely better than fast food, and I think 3 stars is about all I can muster for this little piece of Americana. read more

It pains me to write this. I am a former local. I happened to be in Gloversville during lunch time and decided to go in for the first time in probably 30 years. I didn't expect it to be the same, but they were always known for their hot dogs, so I ordered one with the works. DISAPPOINTED. Both the hot dog itself and the meat sauce were flavorless. Hot dogs were either bottom-of-the-line or maybe kept in the freezer too long. The meat sauce, which they used to be famous for, tasted like nothing. The whole point of meat sauce is spice, and maybe a bit of green or hot pepper. It is supposed to have at least a little bite to it. But this was. . .NOTHING. I also had a bowl of bean soup that was incredibly salty. I don't know about the rest of the menu, but I won't be going back. read more

My parents go to New York Lunch for breakfast (or at least a coffee) at least three days a week and are far more qualified to review this Gloversville institution than I am. But, seeing as they're not Yelpers, you'll just have to deal with my own review. Of course, I suppose I am a regular enough to get friendly service by name and have a standard drink order (water with lemon, because I'm fancy like that.). Also, I'm enough of a VIP that when I'm not feeling up for hot dogs with the works, I'll order someone else, even if it's not on the menu. Some personal off-menu favorites of mine include sausage gravy over home fries and a barbecue chicken wrap. Now, don't go and order pork with sesame sauce or something like that, but I really enjoy a place that's willing to use what they have on hand and custom-make something for me. Of course, I'm also secretly hoping that one of these days, they'll put one of my favorites on the menu and name it after me. But, until that happens, New York Lunch is still a great hometown place for delcious hot dogs and other foods and service with a smile. read more

I've been to New York lunch many times this time was a little different. The menu has change which is a good thing however it's too much for the wait staff. The service sucked the philly I ordered had mold on the bottom of the bun and when I asked why was my check 33 dollars for just my wife and kid that only ate I got attitude. Aside from Deans' Dogs (which is owned by the same family), NYL is the best place to grab two hotdogs and Coke for lunch. They also have the best meatsauce in the world. What's meatsauce, Californians? Meatsauce is this spicy ground beef that is cooked down sooo long, it becomes granular and turns to like a saucy paste. Toss in some secret spices, like salt, pepper and cumin, and you have it. Slather that on the dog with kraut, raw white onions and spicy brown and you have something that $1.25 couldnt spend any better. Im not even sure if its still open, but i used to LOVE going there as a little fat kid, getting my eat on. read more

Today, my wife & I went there for breakfast. I got the sausage gravy over biscuits, which by the way came to me on a cold plate. The biscuits where cold, & the sausage gravy was just shy of warm. My 2 scrambled eggs also came to me on a cold plate. Which made them lean more towards to cold side too. I couldn't believe that the young waitress there would bring me what I've ordered before making shure herself that the food was serviceable. Now I'm not in the restaruant biz, so these are not my competitors, & I don't know these folks. I'm just a happily married guy, who wanted to take his wife out for a good breakfast, and didn't get it. I have to give it a star just so that it will post it for me. Waitress was very rude, we ordered our drinks and placed our order. As we were waiting for our food we sat and watched as the cook played with her hair, touch her face multiple times and then of all things wipe her NOSE with her gloves on and continue to cook the food. At no time did she was her hands or change her gloves. We kindly got up from our seats and notified the waitress and asked to pay for our drinks because there was no way we were going to now eat that food infested with bacteria. The waitress laughed at our concern and proceeded to charge us for our 2 drinks, you would think she would apologize and disregard the payment of the drinks, but that wasn't the case. As we were walking out the cook thought it must have been funny as well with the smirk on her face and then wiped her nose AGAIN while smiling with the same gloves on! Absolutely disgusted and the owners should be ashamed of the filth that goes on at their business. read more
