I asked about a night guard for TMJ and they told me they could make it - a gal questioned the wires in the guard and the gal with her said the lab would figure it out. The guard came back with no wires and they didn't return the old guard. My insurance would only pay for 1 guard in a 12 month period. So it cost $4000 to get the correct guard made as the TMJ issues were returning and I had severe pain in my jaw. In December I had an exam and was told I needed 2 crowns. I told them I wanted to wait until January because I was changing insurance. THE DENTIST AND THE HYGENIST TOLD ME I SHOULD DO IT NOW - IN DECEMBER- BECAUSE THERE MIGHT BE A WAITING PERIOD WITH THE NEW INSURANCE. I went back December 30th and paid the balance in full. I went back for the final crowns in January. They billed my "old insurance" in January and the claim was denied. Now I am being billed over $1600. Angela, the office manager, told me that there are notes in the file that said to keep the "old insurance" until the crowns were delivered. THAT IS FALSE!!!! I was told to get everything done on the old insurance. But now it is my fault because I should have known that they would have to bill my insurance for the permanent crowns. But isn't it nice that they will settle with me if I pay $1000 instead of the $1600 that was not paid by insurance. THEY ARE DOING ME A BIG FAVOR BY TRYING TO REDUCE THE BILL. Interesting - if your office is not in error due to the false note in my file - why are you offering me a "DEAL". BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE This office does everything to get MONEY !!!!! I have no doubt that the cleanings she received were good. Hence, 3 stars instead of 1. I held off on writing this review, but my daughter has seen multiple dentists now and I feel it might help other patients. We had a billing error after our first visit as they'd submitted the wrong code to our insurance and then tried billing us directly over and over for a cleaning, which was covered by our insurance. I wasted hours of my time on the phone with both Riccobene and our insurance. I even had a 3-way call with our insurance company and Riccobene to get it settled. I'd been told the issue had been fixed, but I kept receiving bills in the mail. It was extremely frustrating, but it was a mistake- which happens sometimes- so we stayed with the office. I started getting rubbed the wrong way by Riccobene during 2020 with the up-charge for PPE during the pandemic, which by comparison to other dentists, was well in excess of what other offices in the area were charging (as discovered in a discussion on NextDoor). It was annoying, but maybe just a sign of the times, and that wasn't enough to deter me from the office even after the billing error, so we stayed a few more years. Perhaps this started to generally sway my perception of the office as a money-grab, though. It was at my daughter's final visit that I really started to question the practice. After my daughter had been seen, I was told that she had some cavities. As a late teen, she'd never had a single cavity before, but I didn't necessarily doubt the possibility of a cavity or two. We would have been paying out of pocket for the fillings, which according to their invoice, would have been just shy of $700 (all out of pocket expense since it was not covered by our insurance). They were fully aware of this because they stated that our insurance wouldn't be covering it and the expense would be out of pocket. It was when we checked out after the appointment that things started feeling off and I got an uneasy feeling. It felt a whole lot like we just walked into a used car sales lot with an aggressive sales team that was really pushing us to schedule the fillings immediately. It gave me such a bad feeling that I decided to hold off on scheduling the fillings. Instead, I went with my gut and I got a second opinion at a different dental office. My daughter has been seen at two different dentist offices since then and she's been seen every 6 months. One visit was the same week we'd been seen at Riccobene. I've never heard of cavities magically disappearing, especially within a few days, but according to the other offices, she did not have any cavities then and she still does not have any cavities. I left the office after that last visit with Riccobene feeling like they were aggressively trying to charge us out of pocket to fill cavities that perhaps didn't even exist. After being seen elsewhere, I feel it more strongly about it. I'm very glad I didn't schedule the fillings on the spot or pay the ~$700 out of pocket while being pressured to do so. Perhaps it was an accidental misdiagnosis (per cavity), but if you're paying out of pocket and things don't feel right, I'd suggest asking for solid proof of the issues or getting a second opinion elsewhere before moving forward. While the dentist who performed the extraction was professional and efficient, the subsequent care provided by the dental assistant was unacceptable. The assistant struggled significantly with the impressions, requiring three painful attempts that left my mouth raw and sore. Furthermore, she fabricated a temporary bridge that was bulky and ill-fitting, then proceeded to cement it without the Doctors authorization. The doctor eventually had to intervene to remove and fix the work. Which meant more unnecessary work had to be done. This lack of technical proficiency resulted in an unnecessarily long and "borderline traumatizing" appointment. I strongly feel this assistant requires further training before performing these procedures on patients again! However, the front desk staff is super sweet and nice. The staff here is friendly and professional. The hygienists are excellent - Ali, Tabitha, and Christalyn come to mind as standouts. In additional to routine cleaning, I have required additional dental procedures done (e.g. crown filling) and I was very happy with the results. Front desk staff Jill and Jodi are also lovely -- they have alerted me when I have credits on my account, and it is always a smooth process whenever we arrive for appointments or have to deal with billing. Their billing department uses high pressure tactics to collect outstanding balances that resulted because they did not properly file insurance claims. For example, when my wife called for an appointment due to a toothache, Riccobene initially said they would not schedule the appointment unless my wife paid an outstanding balance. She reminded them about our insurance and a week later we got confirmation from the insurance company that they paid Riccobene and that we do not owe anything. I have also gotten collection notices from Riccobene, but when I called and asked they had not filed the insurance claims. This sort of thing happens often, and they are now asking patients to leave a credit card on file so they can charge it without our knowing. After many years of dealing with this we are fed up and plan to seek out a new dentist. it is a shame because their dental services are very good.
