I was there the weekend of December 13th. I have stayed there before so I knew how nice it is. On the Saturday the power went out for the whole town except for the hotel because of a snowstorm. I received a text that the owners, Ryan and Alex, along with Larry were coming in to fix dinner for the guest because all the other restaurants were without power. I really appreciated that. The hotel is always decorated beautifully for the holidays. I make it a yearly tradition to come and stay there around the Christmas holiday season. read more

While we didn't stay here, we did visit the gift shop and enjoy the rockers out front. It is such a well-maintained hotel and it feels so cozy and welcoming. The restaurant looked really good too. We were hungry and I almost said "let's just eat here", but we already had dinner plans. The front porch with the rocking chairs is so inviting. It does get quite a bit of traffic, so it's not exactly quiet out there, but somehow it still felt very peaceful and relaxing. I can see why people love coming to visit Yellow Springs. We also briefly visited Antioch college, Alma mater of Rod Serling. This idyllic town and hotel remind me of the perfect start to an episode of the Twilight Zone. (I truly mean that in the best way possible- quaint, unassuming, darling Ohio towns are typically one of the main ingredients of the recipe for many episodes.) read more

Disclaimer; I did not stay here but came to eat at the restaurant. While waiting we browsed the gift shop and observed. My impression is that the place was spotless clean and the hotel staff were efficient, engaging and friendly. Unexpected roommates! Checked in to this pricey hotel and it looked nice and clean. Unfortunately my room had roaches.

Finally we booked a getaway night here. It was exactly what we hoped for. Warmly greeted. Staff was helpful. Cozy and clean room. The bed & bathroom were great. (Told beds were made by the Amish) No closet and no fridge. Located on main street. Easy to walk to most places. About $200 a night. Usually fills up fast so don't delay in making reservation if specific dates are in mind. read more

Overall, we wanted to give this hotel an excellent rating, but we did run into a couple of issues. The location was great, within walking distance to what we needed. The room was mostly clean and comfortable. We did have a swarm of flies that kept showing up in the room in the evenings, possibly from the heater or previous guest leaving windows open? Our room faced the street and as others have noted, it can be loud. But it didn't last all night. The staff was overall very friendly. I loved the self serve prepackaged ice!! Our issue was with housekeeping, we got late starts while visiting. The first day was totally our fault as we left the do not disturb sign on door. However, as we were leaving, we spoke with housekeeping as she was next door. She assured us they would get to the room. They did not since the sign was on even though we talked. Fortunately, we returned early enough to get them to still come up and do a quick once over (towels/bed). The next day, Saturday, housekeeping came twice while we were still getting dressed. The second time right as we were getting shoes on to leave. We told them we would be out the room in less than 10 minutes, the gentleman said sure and he would let the team know to return. They did not. When we returned to the unfreshened room, we called and were told housekeeping was no longer on the premises at 445 pm.Ultimately, we were able to get towels brought up and took care of the rest ourselves. If that is procedure, cool, just let patrons know this at CHECK-IN, so we can plan accordingly. Its a smaller place and we misjudged the timing of their rounds and had no idea they would have no one after a certain hour. We were able to try Ellie's, for brunch, it was good and service there was great. The French toast, eggs, bacon, and sausage were hits. The coffee bar, with a full bar was also nice for later in the day. Overall, we enjoyed the stay and will likely return. We recommend trying them out. read more

Be careful when booking with this hotel as the owners have multiple cancellation policies. On the phone and in their product description 7 days is indicated, however on the website it states 3 days. * On the Mills Hotel website, the cancellation policy is stated as follows: "In the unlikely event that you must cancel with less than three (3) days notice, shorten your stay or check out early, please understand that we must ask you to take responsibility for your entire reservation." * On the Mills Hotel Product Description provided by the hotel to substantiate an erroneous room charge, the policy is stated as follows: "Cardholder cancelled less than 7 days before the reservation start. Thus, they are not entitled for a refund." Future guests should be aware of this hotel's bait and switch cancellation policies as they are used to steal money from unsuspecting customers. read more

Had a reservation for Thursday 5/30 through Sunday 6/2. My father in law was diagnosed with throat cancer and we wanted to see him before he started chemo. 2 days before check in, we got a phone call that my wife was finally able to get on the schedule for a heart procedure to reduce the risk of having another stroke (she had two in May 2022) I called the hotel the day before check in to explain the situation. We did not want to travel and risk covid or another airborne illness and subsequently not be able to have the surgery performed. We were originally scheduled in Jan but my wife got sick and we had to reschedule. It took 5 months. I wanted to push my reservation back 6-8 weeks, and wanted to add time to it. I did not want to cancel. They refused. Front Desk said I am on the hook for 100% and there would be no modifications. Front Desk connected me with "Larry" to discuss further. When Larry picked up the phone he refused to acknowledge anything about my situation. When I attempted to ask for modification, discuss my wife's illness (Larry became more hostile when I mentioned this), etc. he would immediately cut me off to tell me that policy is no refunds or modifications. When I told him most hotels will work with you Larry told me "we are a private company, we can do whatever we want". When I told Larry he was not giving me a consistent message, because at first he is telling me "policy, no exceptions" and now is claiming he can "do whatever they want", Larry become even more combative and hostile. He ran my card immediately for the charge a day before I was supposed to check in. I was also billed twice. I've traveled extensively for work over the last two decades and have dealt with lousy hotels and rude staff. Larry was by far the rudest and most condescending hotel staff I have ever interacted with. I attempted to contact the owners multiple times. No response. One of the owners is the chair of the Yellow Spings Chamber of Commerce. I reached out to them. Nothing. For those that suffer this, try the following steps (1) submit a complaint with Better Business Bureau (2) submit a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General's office (3) dispute the transaction with your credit card company (4) contact Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce and either (5) go to small claims court in the Xenia courthouse or (6) explore filing a civil suit. It may or may not work, but as consumers we need to start holding this type of businesses accountable. Reading other experiences similar to mine, the owners Ryan and Alex are clearly unethical business owners and are morally bankrupt. They do this because there is no recourse. If this happens to you, take the time to make it known to the appropriate parties. read more

The hotel is beautiful, but it has to be one of the noisiest hotels I've ever stayed in. Between people playing games in the computer room loft late at night, to staff refilling the ice chest at 4 am, I barely got any sleep. Then there's the street noise and slamming doors. The hotel restaurant is also pretty expensive. They really should include some type of coffee and continental breakfast for guests. As another guest mentioned, there is no closet to hang your clothes and no fridge, but the bed was super comfy. There is also a huge front porch with rocking chairs, a nice place to relax. Might stay here again but would need a room in a different area of the hotel. Cost with taxes was a little less than $200 a night, not a bad deal. read more

The reason we selected one star because although the room was comfortable, we got absolutely no sleep because of incessant elevator noise . We are disappointed that although we specifically asked hotel staff for a quiet room when booking they still gave us a room close to the elevator where that they were fully aware of the noise problems and have had many complaints. read more

A few days before my husband and I were to stay at the Mills Park Hotel in April 2024 I became very ill. I attempted to cancel online, oddly that isn't offered but you'll see in Adam Coffey's Google review as to why. When I called they said you can only cancel for a refund SEVEN DAYS PRIOR to your reservation date. "We have a very strict cancellation policy" translates to "Ha, ha! Screw you, suckers!" At $350 the room was expensive, but we have been wanting to stay at this seemingly charming establishment for a couple of years and we thought we'd treat ourselves for once since we rarely do with 3 kids in college. With this being a financial splurge it really was upsetting that the owners, Ryan Aubin and his husband Alex Price refused to even meet us half way with a gesture of good faith and hospitality, and simply charge us a small cancellation fee like reputable hotels do. Instead, the couple gave the room to another customer and then charged our credit card $350, doubling their profit. Adam Coffey states in his Google review, "...their unwillingness to work with me in any way shows intent to profit without providing services. An honest company would at least meet you halfway." I myself have never encountered such an inflexible and compassionless hotel policy. When I looked back at my emails it was difficult to locate any policy but then I saw it in small print "you will receive $0 after such and such date." Other refund language was confusing and subject to interpretation. Now the website policy language has been changed to 3 days but I wouldn't count on that. What if you have a death in the family 3 days prior to your stay? What if 2 days prior you are in an accident and hospitalized? Ryan and Alex will still charge you $350 for a place you attempted to cancel TWO full days prior to the reservation date for a room you never set foot in. No offer of a credit towards a future stay, no cancellation fee, no 50% charge, it just feels like they stole our entire $350. At this point I'm sick to my stomach over the financial loss. We aren't young and are careful with our spending. This seemingly charming and hospitable hotel on the outside just reeks of greed and tone-deaf/unethical business practices towards customers on the inside. Their tone-deaf and cut and paste responses to reviews reflects the same lack of hospitality and empathy..."our award-winning team"....what awards? Schooling multiple customers on travel insurance is condescending and unhelpful. Our feelings are so soured we've lost our desire to visit Yellow Springs altogether. The town has lost that peaceful, friendly vibe through this experience with The Mills Park Hotel; I couldn't avoid seeing it being right in the center of town. It's such a shame because we've enjoyed many day trips there with family and friends over the years and were looking forward to going to Dave Chapelle's new comedy club. A few months ago, we attended a personal birthday celebration for about 80 people. Katherine and her team had arranged for a very welcoming and classy set up and arrangement. The food served was very good and staff and Katherine were easily approachable throughout the celebration. The hotel design reminds one of a turn of the century old hotel, with a classy design and a touch of personal fondness of the Corgi house dog whose pictures and motives can be seen throughout the house. The rooms are spacious and well decorated, the in-house restaurant served well prepared meals and offered gluten free options. In summary, the stay was very pleasant and relaxing, we felt welcome, the food was good and personnel was personable and friendly. The prices were very reasonable and competitive. We would not mind coming back for a long weekend to relax and escape daily routines. Highly recommended. read more

My husband stayed 2 nights at this amazing hotel during our visit to see family. We absolutely loved everything about this hotel. From the beautiful lobby to the beautiful front porch there is a wonderful welcoming feeling. Fun things like the "vintage-style" ice chest right outside our room door, to the rental bikes to the well stocked hotel gift shop helped to make our stay more enjoyable. Our room was so beautiful and cozy and had everything we needed. Everyone at the hotel was so friendly and professional. We had breakfast at Ellie's on both mornings of our stay and loved the coffee, staff and the food so much. We loved the coffee so much we had to buy a big bag to enjoy back home in Florida. I haven't stayed overnight, but I have enjoyed a few beautiful afternoons dining on the front porch of the Mills Park Hotel, and you really can't beat the ambiance. From the gorgeous custom rocking chairs to the traditional Haint Blue porch ceiling with ceiling fans, it's like time stands still and you're transported to a lazy afternoon down south where the hospitality is fine and the food matches the mood. I've had the shrimp and grits every time and thoroughly enjoyed the dish. The exterior of the hotel is bright and traditional and absolutely stunning. Despite its size, it doesn't overwhelm the surrounding streets and small shops of Yellow Springs; it complements the town. The interior is gorgeous as well, and it's evident a great deal of care and attention to detail has gone into outfitting the space with custom pieces of furniture from local artisans and refined touches to ensure a luxurious (but not stuffy) experience. Needed to leave my apartment for 1 night and chose Mills Park Hotel because I wanted it to feel like a real get-away... and it was just that! The hotel was absolutely gorgeous! Great job on the southern charm theme! This hotel has only been around since 2015 but it looks like it opened today... it looks so freshly painted and clean and very well maintained. The room I stayed in was beautiful...a traditional king. It was clean and quite comfortable. Not showing much wear and tear at all. As I only stayed 1 night, I only experienced the room and lobby. Will certainly go back for a longer stay in the future! read more

Breakfast in the restaurant is very nice. I am glad they started opening at 7am instead of 8am as that is zero use for anyone traveling on business. Rooms were very clean but the front desk staff is awful. They all got very annoyed when I or my husband would walk up to desk. The night time employee was no where to be found in the middle of the night when I had an issue arise. The second night, I walked off the elevator and the employee was sleeping, twice! Once at the desk and once at the lounge area so I could not make purchases from their little gift shop in the middle of the night. This is not a welcoming hotel at all. As gorgeous as the hotel is and the town is, it is not worth the price for the guest services you'll be receiving. They are not at all accommodating. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND this property. read more

We held a Baby Sprinkle at the Mills Park Hotel this weekend and everything was amazing! I called to book a room over the phone for an upcoming business trip. When they went to authorize my credit card, it was declined. I explicitly told the person taking my reservation that I would call the credit card company to determine what the issue was and that I would call back to complete my reservation. It turned out that my card had been deactivated due to lack of use (I asked them to reactivate it), and my trip was subsequently cancelled the next day. You can therefore imagine my surprise when a charge for the room showed up on my statement. In complete disregard for my explicit instruction that I would call back to complete my reservation, the hotel had evidently continued to try to run my card over the next two days, and it finally went through when the card was reactivated. I spoke with at least three different individuals at the hotel to explain what had happened, sure that a reputable and morally-run business would acknowledge what was clearly a violation of a customers trust. Even though they acknowledged that the card was attempted to be run multiple times over 3 days, they still refused to acknowledge that what they had done was just plain wrong - insisting that I had simply "no showed." I felt compelled to share my experience with those of you thinking about making a reservation directly through this hotel. While I'm sure it's a lovely hotel, I was a victim of fraud. The rooms are lovely and the staff friendly but don't expect to get a good night's sleep. We were on the second floor and could hear all the noise from the first floor bar. We could also hear every footfall and TV show from the rooms beside and above us. And more...hear every bit of the late night "antics" of the couple in the room above us. At $200 a night, I'd look elsewhere for a place to lay your head. On the flip side, I have eaten in the restaurant several times since the opening, mostly breakfast, and have found the food to be good. read more

A beautiful hotel in a lovely area. The hotel lacks in many areas the affect the experience. Poor soundproofing affects the ability to get a restful sleep, no refrigerators means you do not have cold water or beverages. The elimination of closets forces you to hang clothes on the furniture, making the room messy. Understaffing results in not being able to get milk for your morning coffee. I would recommend any of the Inns or B&Bs in the area. read more

Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We went in for a late brunch. Several of our orders the kitchen just couldn't seem to figure out. We asked for sausage patties, they brought links. On another order we asked for no bacon in the omelet, they put it in anyway. We also had two orders of chicken and waffles at our table. Unfortunately our waffles were just completely uncooked raw dough which did not complement the chicken. So if you relish the idea of either just 'having to deal with it' or of sending your food back and waiting twenty minutes for a replacement, please stop in. read more

This was a beautiful place. The brunch was wonderful. There is so much history inside this beautiful building. They have old fashioned sodas, banquet halls, and horse carriage rides that live from here. It is also near a college as well. We wanted a safe getaway and booked at Mills Park for our anniversary. With the increase in covid cases recently and the delta variant, I almost cancelled the reservation. But then I read that Yellow Springs had reinstated its mask policy so I felt more comfortable going. When we arrived, the woman at the desk was not wearing a mask. When I asked about it and mentioned the mask mandate she said it was up to businesses to decide and the mandate was only for walking around outside (what?). We overheard another guest ask their server on the patio and they were told since it is private property the hotel didn't have to require masks. Based on what I read, it is my belief that the hotel was violating the ordinance. But even if they weren't, they should care more about the safety of their guests and staff. Not requiring masks during this time is negligent and reckless. And they were not honest about the mask mandate. I would not recommend this hotel. Very disappointing. read more

Ate there two years ago right after they opened and it was great food. Little pricey but the food was good. The service was OK, guy came took order and came back at end with check. Did not ask if we wanted anything else. But the place is beautiful. Went back on July 9 at 11am. No one was in the dinning room. Ordered. Chicken salad sandwich, and fruit bowl. Chicken salad arrived on a croissant that was dried out. Chicken was dry had no chicken flavor and the fruit bowl really pissed me off. It was two inches across by one inch thick. Had (5 blueberries) (2 pieces of pineapple) (2 pieces of melon) and that was all. I got that as a substitute for the kettle potatoes which are kettle potato chips that the other person had that were stale she said. All of this for 25.00. Really 25.00 you could have gone to Arbys and had a really good chicken salad sandwich. The place is still beautiful but is going down on upkeep. I know that the public can tear things up. But this was a fancy hotel. So someone tears it up, fix it up. In restroom beside the bar the toilet paper roll had been torn out of the wall. How do you do that?? So they had toilet paper rolls on the floor and back of toilet. Just not worth the price they charge now. Go online and read their menu it is there. AND the service was nice the girl was friendly and came back one time and asked if we wanted anything else. So that part was ok, but the food was a joke compared to when it opened.
