I wish Columbus had more bed and breakfast inns, especially in German Village, Victorian Village…read moreand the Short North. It would make for great strolling and B&B's would only lend to the charm of these gentrified neighborhoods. The Harrison House is one of the few bed and breakfast inns within striking distance of downtown and is situated on the very edge of Ohio State's campus in the neighborhood known as Harrison West (hence the name, Harrison House). The 1890's Victorian home has a great location and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been beautifully renovated to include six rooms that range in price from $129 to $169 dollars. All of the guest rooms have a private bath, queen size bed, cable television and wireless Internet service. Breakfast is included in the price and free parking is available on site- which is a bonus given the street parking in this area is hard to come by at times, especially when Ohio State is in session. I have stayed in loads of insanely beautiful B&B's and have developed super high standards when it comes to these types of accommodations. Aside from the Harrison House being privately owned and located in a nifty part of town, there isn't anything particularly special about the place.

July 29, 2022 We…read moreknew we were in for a treat the moment we stepped into this charming 1843 house. Recently renovated, it is a delight to the eye, with its antique and vintage furniture, perfectly chosen colors, and tasteful ornamentation. The common area downstairs, where a healthy and fresh continental breakfast is available every morning, is both lovely (I particularly loved the rocker) and comfortable. Our upstairs bedroom had not only vintage furnishings, but also welcome modern elements, such as the king-sized bed and wide-screen television - and there was plenty of drawer and hanging space. Every detail evidenced the care and taste of our host, Jim, from the lovely bed linens and ample towels, to the selection of personal toiletries in the elegant (and spotless) marble bathroom. Who expects a glorious white orchid on the vanity? And on the subject of the host, Jim is all we could have wished for. In addition to his attentive hospitality, as a long-time resident of Yellow Springs, he knows its history, its people, and its stories; and he is generous in sharing information about places to eat, shop, see art, and enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding area. We learned quickly that pretty much everyone in town knows and loves Jim and is eager to welcome his guests. Three Ten is a not-to-be-missed lodging experience. in a delightful town.

My wife and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary on 8/11/20…read more We do a trip every year for our anniversary and this year my wife decided she wanted to visit the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. So I planned a 2-day trip and while doing my research for a place to stay on 8/11, I happened upon The Timbrook Guesthouse. I will keep the review as short as possible because I love brevity but I make no promises. Jill, the owner, is super fantastic and a 10-star host. She puts forth a Brobdingnagian effort to make sure her guests are happy. If you stay at Timbrook, you will not be able to understand how she does it. No human could possibly do all of the things Jill does everyday to keep Timbrook running like a well-oiled machine. I think she may be a robot. Timbrook itself is the kind of house we'd live in forever if we didn't have 10 fleabaggy cats who love to ruin everything and drive us crazy. The house and the property are just amazing in every way. There are a lot of fun things to do in and around Columbus but you won't wanna leave the property. The house itself and our room were incredible. Everything was super clean, comfortable and welcoming, and we loved how it was decorated. And it's so quiet. The house is so quiet. I love quiet. Did I mention it was quiet? We got to meet KoKo, an awesome bird who loves to eat large nuts. Jill fed him as we watched and it was really a treat. We also got to meet Charlie, another awesome bird who can really voice his opinion. There are also a whole bunch of chickens and who doesn't love watching chickens scamper about. BREAKFAST was so many positive adjectives, I couldn't possibly list them all. A fruit cup that was akin to Ambrosia (which, if you don't know, is the food of the gods). And a hot meal that I ate slowly and savored every morsel. My wife is a trained chef, so one can imagine the cuisine i'm used to, and this was just crazy-delicious. Our only disappointment was that we could not stay longer. My wife and I met a very nice older couple at breakfast who said they were staying all week. We were so envious. We both agreed that when we come back to Columbus, we will stay at Timbrook. We got to see Puka the cat if only briefly right before we left. Maybe next time we visit, we can get closer to pet him but he was a little spooked and being cat owners ourselves, we totally understood. Our Teddy hides under the bed whenever people he doesn't know come over our house. His sister, Ruby, hides too. But Puka is gorgeous and count yourself lucky if you get to see him. Our experience was 10 stars. So if you plan on being in the Columbus area, make sure you do not miss this treasure. Tell Jill that Kevin and Carrie sent you!

As soon as we found out, my wife called and was told that it was no problem, that there is a waiting list, and once it is cancelled, we would get a refund. We would be charged a $35 fee, though. Having not yet received a confirmation email, my wife called again, asking about the refund. And she talked to a very rude person who said we were not getting a refund because it included a holiday. Also snapped "it is clearly written in the confirmation" several times and completely ignored the question of someone previously giving us false information. The excuse was "I am a small business and need to survive"... but rings very hollow because there is no doubt it was re-rented, in fact, she is double dipping and making twice the money. Nice little racket, if you ask me. While I did miss the holiday clause in the confirmation (which was made 35 days before the arrival date, so not much time to cancel), the fact that we were told we were getting a refund is a huge problem. If we were told the truth, we would have made arrangements to at least partially attend. And if this is the way they treat customers, I am wondering if I didn't dodge a bullet by not going. Needless to say, I will never patronize this business.

Ample parking was behind the inn; newly asphalted too! The reception lobby was open and inviting. The timber beams, heavy hand tools and dated photographs nodded to the entire area's rustic roots. Manager Joan greeted us warmly, and regaled us with stories of the village's pioneers and valued residents. It was wonderful! Our first floor Queen Room (~ $160) was spotless, fresh and quiet. Bedding was comfortable, as was the room temperature. All appliances and fixtures worked well. Loved the Evelyn & Crabtree toiletries as well as the thick, fresh towels! Breakfast was very simple, consisting of cereals and canned fruit salad with a few cellophane-wrapped sweets, but the local coffee brew was hot, fresh and strong! We visited the little gift shop, and picked up a history book and vintage postcards. There are local crafts and wares available too. We recommend the Hearthstone to anyone considering a visit to the area.

It didn't take long, however to notice that the pictures on the property listing don't reflect the current reality. The cabin is badly in need of a deep clean. When we walked upstairs the room full of beds was perfect for the occasion, but we walked on the balcony to find filthy, outdated furniture and dirt and debris all over the balcony. The windows were filthy, the coffee maker and toaster were nasty, and there was a thick layer of dirt peaking out from under the couch. There was a visible dust layer on everything, the board games, the air hockey table, in every corner and windowsill. The paddle board decals are all coming off and the board wasn't blown up enough to use. The propane fire pit had no propane. All the outdoor furniture was covered in bird poop and dirt, including the front porch furniture and around the fire pit. There was also an outdoor container next to the fire pit that had several bags of trash in it, creating an unpleasant stench as we sat near the fire pit. We live locally, so we went to our home and got a leaf blower to try to clean off the patio/balcony and I had to wipe down all the chairs around the fire pit so that we could sit there without getting filthy. We understand that this is a farm setting, however for the cost, more attention needs to be given to cleanliness and replacing small appliances, or at least giving them some much needed attention. On a positive note, the animals were cute and we enjoyed the kittens that hung around the porch.
