We stayed in Room 2 on the second floor, very handsomely appointed in aqua and coffee tones, with silver accents. The room was lovely and very comfortable, both the bedroom and the en suite bathroom. I enjoyed reading a book in the chair by the window. The backyard was another highlight. There is a small deck, a fireplace, an English-style walking garden, and a main seating area with candles and comfortable camp chairs. In warm weather, it's perfect either for unwinding or for extending a gathering at the end of the day. Apparently the proprietor brings food in the morning? I was not awake in time to witness this; perhaps it is the breakfast fairy. In any case, the spread was noteworthy: besides the drinks, snacks, yogurt, fruit, and cereal available around the clock, there were uncooked eggs, miniature bagels, coffee cake or banana bread, and a variety of seasonal fruit. No matter how heterogeneous your group, everyone will find something to satisfy him- or herself. Sometimes it's the little things--such as the rubber duck in the shower stall, the small fish tank on the kitchen counter, and the soft jazz CD playing in the living room on our arrival. There was a basket of highly watchable DVD movies and a shelf of local-interest books. But the important things stand out too: the entire place was immaculate and the proprietors seem to take good care of both the property and the guests. This is a very strong 4.5. Some of our housemates were staying there for the third time, and I would not hesitate to return with them next time.

I had the most amazing time! Beautiful room, lovely shared common area, responsive hosts/staff. The kitchen has filtered water from the fridge, keurig coffee, microwave, and dishes. There are snacks like popcorn, crackers, yogurt, and cereal available all day. In the morning, they put out a fresh pastry (different and delicious each day!), toast, beautiful fresh fruit, and hard boiled eggs. The room had a hair dryer, bar soap, makeup wipes, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. We also had a smart tv so I could log into my own Hulu account. There is a pretty park and lots of little shops and restaurants within walking distance, including a major grocery store. Could not have imagined a better place...I wish I lived there!

Charleston). What a beautiful Victorian house and a definite 5-star experience! Yeah, I know this review is a year late (Today is 10Oct22), but I'm a busy fella writing Indy sci-fi/fantasy novels @ dreamquestbooks.com, and just lost track of time till this 1-year anniversary of the beginning of our bike ride. Anyway, Patty was a wonderful host who took great care of us (even through the town/village of South Charleston losing elec. power for a couple-three hours in the late afternoon-evening) and served us, and another group of 5 cyclers going the other direction (south) on the same 326 mile Trail, a wonderful, freshly made breakfast the next morning. Our stay at the Houstonia (and supper at the Purple Monkey) was one of the better highlights of our 10-day bike ride. ~Rick A. Mullins

No barking dogs. There is bike storage in the garage. The host, Patty Nibert will make your visit just like home...and better. She cooks! It is on the bike trail through town. At the bottom of the street is Shoemaker's grocery, a hardware store, and a pharmacy. Downtown is charming with a coffee shop, restaurant, and a library. Patty know so much about this town and is proud of it as she should be. I love this town!
