They put on a fun trivia and they have plenty of beers on tap that rotate through. Their food is not good. It's very basic, but also they're not trying or pretending to be anything they're not, so it's fine. I was sorely disappointed with the fish and chips. It was four tiny pieces of breaded fish on fries. Their cheesesteak was a better option. The food is very cheap though! Server mentioned that Milltown Arms is now smokeless every night until 10 PM. - Corned Beef Reuben: one of the better examples I've had. - Tots: If you like tots, you'll like Milltown Arm's version. - Fish n Chips: decent. My fish was 'well done' to the point of being charred but not quite. Fries are good. Beer - they have it. Lots of drafts, lots of bottles/cans. Look to the far wall as you walk in from the street for the list of available beers. And wines. Service is good. You won't be treated like an outsider even if you've never been here before despite the place looking like a 'regulars only' hangout. It's Cabbagetown - people are chill. Parking - again, it's Cabbagetown, so don't get your hopes up. But Milltown Arms does have its own small lot to the left of the bar as viewed from the street. Otherwise, find a spot on the neighboring streets. Carroll St itself it a dicey proposition for parking. It's not only crowded, but also effectively one lane. So maneuvering into a spot might be challenging. Me, I just walk over from home. read more

This evening was my second time here, and I'll definitely keep coming back! I had the Sour D with a bowl of tomato soup that was so good that I pondered quitting my job to come work in the kitchen, just so I could learn the recipe. I'm always wary of ordering tomato soup because most places serve up a big ol' bowl of heartburn. Not so here! Creamy, slightly sweet with just the right blend of heartiness and not too much chunkines. The sandwich was exceptional as well, but the soup was so good I got distracted! I've never seen more than a handful of people in Milltown Arms, which to me is a plus, considering its size and easy location on Carroll Street make it a very comfortable place to relax. It's a pretty standard pub style decor with a small bar that stocks the average amount of beverages--- nothing special on either end. Thus it's just the location and the under-the-radar status of this place that make it different than most. If it began to fill up more often, which I think it should, it would probably feel more like a more chill Buckhead bar than the hipster downtown scenes. The music isn't overloud and the people all seem to just want to relax and have a drink. Certain nights they feature Music Trivia, and everytime I've ever walked by I've seen no more than a few participants, so if you're looking for a place where you can own it easy, this might be the one. read more

This is a great place to watch the game. PLUS it has great food. In fact, in my opinion, this is probably the best sports bar in Atlanta. I have come here to watch the game by myself and with Kevin C. My favorite part of this place is the ambience. Compared to other sports bars, Milltown is quieter, and you sit right in front of a 50 in TV. I like it this way. You don't have obnoxious frat guys drunk all over the place or cursing up a storm, and you get a big tv to sit in front of. Anyway, now onto the food. I've had: Homemade chilli sweet potato fries Jerk Chicken burger regular fries jalapeno and cheese stuffed pretzel cuban sandwich cheese steak All the food here is really good. Everything has a ton of flavor, is cooked properly and most importantly ISN"T DRY. Chilli: Absolute must get if you come here. It is friggen delicious, there is something in there that I can't replicate when I make chill at home. It's hard to put into words but basically if you ever come here and get one dish, GET THE CHILI. Sweet potato fries: probably the best sweet potato fries that I have had in Atlanta. Crisp, thick enough to have good give, but thin enough to be fried perfectly through. This is THE SIDE TO GET if you get a burger or a sandwich. Jerk Chicken Burger: properly seasoned... for a white guy, I personally thought it wasn't spicy enough to be an authentic jerk sandwich, but for the common person, it's plenty seasoned. The chicken breast was moist, but I found the actual size of the meat to be a little on the small side, at least when compared to the bun. Regular fries: average, nothing special to write home about. jalapeño and cheese stuffed pretzel: Fried not baked, but really good. I think this might be a signature dish for Milltown Tavern. It's pretty good, the pretzel dough is slightly sweet, whereas the cheese is salty and the jalapenos give the pretzel a kick. It's a slight bit oily (since it's fried). To be honest, if you are eating by yourself, you won't finish it. It's just too rich. But if you are with a friend or 2, definitely get 1 or 2 of these. Cuban Sandwich: it was pressed!!! thank god. And compared to other non Cuban pubs and restaurants, the cuban here is actually pretty good. The pork and ham were moist and flavorful, the mustard and pickles complimented everything really well. AND most importantly, the bread was pressed with butter till it was crisp on the outside. Eating this sandwich was surprisingly neat. There is a perfect ratio if meat to bread in this sandwich. Cheese steak: surprisingly.Really good. And this is from the kid who went to a bunch when he was in high school (I lived in central Jersey). They used provolone instead of cheese whiz (is it too much to ask for?) but the meat was tender, juicy and flavorful, And there was a ton of it on the sandwich as well. The sautéed pepper and onions complimented the meat very well. I like. So I think I found my favorite sports bar in Atlanta. It has great ambiance (which I'm not rating it for) and more importantly to most people, it has GREAT food. So come here, watch the game, but don't forget to order the chili. read more

One of the coolest spots you've never been to, this tavern is true to form. I was here for the World Cup finally and enjoyed myself. You gotta love chalkboard paint and the creativity that comes with it (where do these people with good hand writing come from?!?). Televisions everywhere you look, but I never caught the Argentine's rattail. I tried the The Veggie, which, for $6.50 included Chipolte Hummus, Fresh Avocado and Tomato with Mixed Greens, Red Onion and Cucumber on Warm Pita Bread. It was good, nothing mind-blowing but definitely worth the price. An oddity for sure: there was smoking allowed inside. But, as they say [okay...as I say...] the only thing worse than a smoker is someone who complains about a smoker. read more

I stopped in to Milltown Arms when I was in the hood prior to a house viewing. I figured that if I was considering moving in a few blocks away it'd be a good idea to get to know the local hotspots. The house was a total dud, but if I ever end up in Cabbagetown, I can see this spot becoming my jam. At first whiff, I hated the smoking. And I continued to hate it throughout my stay. But this is a bar in GA and I don't want this review to be a political diatribe, so we'll move on. I was quickly greeted by the super friendly bartender/waiter/one man show (it was an odd weekday afternoon hour) and served a giant Diet Coke while I perused the menu. Yeah, it's typical bar food but there's enough there to keep your interest. Upon Stephie Z's recommendation, I tried out the veggie burger and was quite pleased. It's not making my top 5 list, but it was pretty dang solid, especially given the surroundings. The sweet potato tots are definitely worth the ridiculous calories. I liked the vibe here: lots of regulars, lots of folks who just seemed to be idling away the hours. Prices were good, everyone was friendly, and I was amazingly able to nab a parking spot out front. Another impartial review from Stephie Z. Please ignore my illeism. This bar is 2 minutes walking distance from my house which leads to my impartiality. I like the Cheers feel it has. Every time I go in there I always see some of the same folks. Staff turnaround isn't high either which is also delightful. Service can sometimes be a bit slow because the staff knows the majority of the patrons and therefor chats it up with said patrons, but that just means you need to come more to break through into the inner circle. On to the food. The jalapeno pretzel is tasty, but keep in mind it is only 1 pretzel, not the plural (s) it mentions on the menu. Sweet potato tots are dy-na-mite and are a must when ordering while intoxicated or sober. I' have only eaten the chicken fingers at the end of a drinking night, but I can tell you that they are delicious late night fare. As surprising as it might seem I have eaten here sober and would recommend the veggie burger. It's got a crisp factor that I dig. I don't know if that shit if frozen or homemade, but I do know it hits the spot. Finally, this bar has an interesting mix of people kind of like Cabbagetown as a whole. You get a couple of frat-tastics, loads of hipsters and hippies, artists, yuppies, and random unboxed in folks. It's a great place to catch a game or a match or a drink. read more

This place is incredible. I came in and at first I thought the chopped cheese was mozzarella sticks. To my surprise this was the most delicious version of a ground meat I have ever placed in my mouth. That was only the begging of my experience on this glorious evening. Next, I ordered some drinks. Our waiter basically did a 40 yard dash to bring me back my high noon - I was impressed. Look out Usain! The subsequent part of the evening was darts. So, as a recent transplant from San Francisco, I gotta say that I'm still loyal to my beloved Giants (and my even more beloved Tim Lincecum.) However, given the way this whole playoffs business works, I found myself in the position of cheering for the Braves last night. Because if the Giants make it to the playoffs, and the Braves get that wildcard, I might get to see them play together. You follow me? So a confluence of Yelp! and Scoutmob led me to narrow down a couple of places where we could watch the game, gits our drank on, and stuff our faces. Five choices were wittled down to Milltown Arms due to our desire to explore more of the very-easily-explorable-because-it's-basically-one-street neighborhood of Cabbagetown. We like Cabbagetown. It's a really nice looking and clean space with tables, booths, and even a couple of little romantic looking two-tops near the window. Four flat-screen TVs (three at the bar, one on the opposite wall) plus some epicness going on on the XM station meant we were in for a good night. Plus a $7 pitcher of PBR and some friendly and funny people occupying the bar next to us. Despite the fact that the Braves got absolutely SPANKED by the Phillies, it was a good time. It's a cool scene down in Cabbagetown - a lot less yuppy and bro-y than our Virginia Highlands scene, but not too sceney. It felt friendly and I felt comfortable. But then again, I'm extremely cool, so, you know, there's that. And the food is decent bar food - with TATER TOTS! Yes! Apparently the wings are good, which I wouldn't know because I don't eat that crap, but hubby was pleased. My black bean burger had kind of a crazy Mexican taste to it, but was on good bread and wasn't too dry. And tater tots! All in all, I think this is kind of the perfect neighborhood bar. I've been to Milltown Arms just a handful of times. And ONLY because it's a less than 5 minute walk from my house. I come here when my friends and I are feeling particularly lazy, and would rather spend a weekend evening chilling at home- so we drag ourselves here to feel like the night wasn't entirely wasted. While it's great that it's so close and so chill, those are basically the only reasons I have for coming here. My friends and I can always find a seat at one of the cozy booths, and it's never really too loud or rowdy where we can't hear each other talk. The service is pretty sub-par. While all of the servers have been friendly and accommodating, they seem pretty amateur and forgetful. Not too big of a deal though. I would like this place SO MUCH BETTER if the beer was better and there wasn't so much smoke. Every time I've been I've ordered a pitcher of some crowd-pleasing beer, and it tasted unusually weird and bad. This past time we had Fat Tire, and although it was apparently a fresh keg it was flat and watery. Ick. There is way too much smoke. It's not so bad when you're hanging out, but I absolutely reek of smoke when I get home. I hate that I have to wash my clothes, let my coat air out, AND shower just to get the smell out after being at this place for less than 3 hours each time. It's not MJQ or the Clermont Lounge, so I don't understand the need for so much smokiness. I really hope Atlanta gets with it and bans smoking in bars like the rest of the civilized urban US. read more

This is a 3.5 star kind of place. Not yet worthy of 4 stars, but solidly ahead of 3 stars. Why do I like it? Cause it's lowkey with friendly staff? Yep. I was there with someone cool? Yep. That always makes for a better experience when brunette + blue eyes + attractive + great conversation is a part of said equation. However, my fratastic glory of flip flops, jeans, polo, and hat backwards stuck out like a sore thumb initially. And no, I don't give one fucking shitwad about that. I do like the appropriately placed TVs in the place and my date and I came into trivia late and then waxed proverbial ass winning by a large margin after missing the first 6 questions. Eat that stoopid biatches. They do have a solid beer list and there's something about chalk boards that is appealing to me. Maybe it's the fact that I want to write "hunter wuz here '10" somewhere. I don't know. Other solids about this place is it's walking distance from Carroll Street Cafe and Agave. Therefore, if I'm not digging eating there I can tear up Agave and grab a drink elsewhere momentarily before heading back. Overall, solid service, decent food (chicken tenders be good yo), decent beer list and only about 2.5 miles from my place. Straight shot down Boulevard. Pretty good. First thing first... it's a tavern, aka a bar. As such, one should accept that most food ordered within is bar food. The chili is a reliable standard and the tots are a good snack too. Beyond that, this is a great little family owned and operated BAR. Like Blake, I relish the fact that it is not packed most of the time, to me that is one of it's greatest traits. It's the kind of place where you can have a low key drink with a friend and actually carry on a conversation, or read the newspaper, or check your email on their free Wi-Fi, or watch the game (they have the Sunday ticket, so it's great if your team's game isn't usually on FOX or CBS - like mine). read more

Milltown Arms is a great spot to watch sporting events and grab some beers, but there are a few drawbacks to the place. Drawbacks: First of all, there is a lot of smoking going on in this place and it is a bit-overwhelming for an ex-smoker. Secondly, the dart boards here are horendous! They have been used, abused and then some. You really have to throw the darts with superhuman strength to get them to stick. If they updated the dart boards I would be here more often. read more

We visited M.A. on a Friday after work, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. They have complimentary valet parking and five of us easily found a booth. They have a great beer list with probably a dozen drafts and an extensive bottle collection. I enjoyed both the Creature Comforts Tropicalia and Green Flash West Coast IPA on tap. We nibbled on fried pickles and the cabbagetown and milltown rolls as appetizers. I love fried pickles and M.A. makes some great ones. Perfectly seasoned and crispy and a delicious dipping sauce. The cabbagetown rolls are good and I liked the pastrami and cheese but I wasn't a huge fan of the milltown chicken rolls. However, fried wrappers with meat inside will probably never be my first choice off a menu. For dinner, my boyfriend and I split a grilled cheese with bacon and grilled broccoli. The grilled broccoli was cooked perfectly and seasoned with just a hint of heat. The grilled cheese with bacon was also very tasty but I think the bread could have been toasted longer. Just the slightest bit soggy. Overall we had a great experience (definitely four stars). However be forewarned: this bar allows smoking inside. It's a hassle to need to do laundry and take a shower immediately after a night out (minus a star). read more

I've only been here once, but came with a small group of people. The reason for my visit was school related. I was doing a project on Cabbagetown and needed to get to know the people of the neighborhood. Our waitress was awesome. After ordering some drinks and telling her why we were there, she introduced us to one of Milltown Arm's regulars. He was extremely nice, and again introduced us to some of his friends. The place was pretty busy and by the end of the night we had probably talked to half of the customers (most who live in Cabbagetown or at least live close. All not only raved about Cabbagetown, but also Milltown Arms of course. You could tell this is an almost completely local hangout. Each time someone new walked through the door everyone would look up from what they were doing and see who just walked in. And funny enough that person would walk throughout the bar and say hi to everyone they knew. Prices were decent, people looked like they were having a good time. If I lived closer this would be a great regular hangout. Friendly customers, servers, and bartenders alike. read more

Upon walking into Milltown Arms on Friday night, the first thing I noticed was how smoky the place was. So much so that we almost considered leaving, but didn't. The food was standard bar food. My husband got a burger and I got hummus. I was quite pleased that they had one of my favorite beers, Southampton Double White, on tap. Food was fine, nothing to write home about, but what can you expect for a bar? The trouble occurred when we tried to get our check. Like other reviewers said, there seemed to be one waitress for the entire place on a Friday night? What's up with that? The bar was pretty full. We waited a half an hour, no joke, from the time we asked for our check to the time she ran our credit card and brought it back. I don't live near this bar, so I don't really see any reason to make a special trip back in the future. And yes, parking in Cabbagetown is rough. I don't fault Milltown Arms for that though. read more
