Millwick is like no other wedding venue I've ever seen. My husband and I debated between Millwick and SmogShoppe when we first got engaged (they're owned by the same company), and we ultimately went with Millwick as we are from downtown LA and liked that it was a newer venue when we booked in January 2016 for a May 2017 wedding. We initially booked them for a guest estimate of 150 people, but we ended up only having 97 people show up. We were worried the place wouldn't look full with less than 100 people, but the people who work there knew exactly how to set up the tables and chairs in the reception area to make it look like a full but not crowded wedding. People hung out in the interior and exterior part of the venue throughout the night, so it never got crowded in any one spot. I would recommend renting heat lamp for the exterior at night - I'm so glad we rented two because it seemed to draw more people outside at night. Not only is the venue gorgeous, but the venue workers are extremely communicative and happy to answer any and all questions you have in a timely and appropriate manner. They go above and beyond by giving you advice on what to do with vendors and how to avoid losing your security deposit. I've heard wedding venue horror stories of people not being able to get in touch with venue management or directors, and that was never, ever the case for us in planning our wedding. Dana was helpful to us the entire year and half we spent planning our big day, answering every detail of our email questions no matter how busy she got with the many meetings that come with her job description. Millwick is pretty straight forward about the fact that it has a lot of rules. For example, you need a babysitter on site if there are three or more kids present over the age of 2. We had two babysitters for my five nieces and nephews. Millwick is happy to provide a list of preferred babysitting vendors, as well as a list of preferred vendors of all kinds! Try to use as many of these as possible, as vendors who have not previously worked at Millwick have to go through an approval process. It might sound complicated but all they really have to do is go to the venue, provide proof of insurance depending on what the service is, and sign the house rules. Easy. You may have to rent a fair amount of items to ensure you'll get your security deposit back (i.e. Mats for the kitchen and bar, trash bins), but Millwick workers such as Dana are more than happy to give you tips on what and how much to rent. Millwick also has 25 tables and chairs for up to 150 guests or so, so you don't need to worry about renting chairs or tables! The chairs are a little small as some have previously noted, but they look good with the venue, and people really don't spend too much time sitting at your wedding. We also loved the jungle themed couches and benches on site. Millwick may seem like it has a lot of rules, but the venue is happy to work with clients on how best to follow them and make sure they get their deposit back. They aren't going to set you up for failure. My advice would be to hire a coordinator who has worked at Millwick and/or SmogShoppe so everyone is on the same page. Carly Rae Weddings produced our dream wedding at Millwick! Back to the venue vibe: it's like you're transported into another world, and because of its proximity to the arts district, there are a lot of great photo opportunities and bars/restaurants nearby. After the wedding, a bunch of our friends hit up a local bar down the street. We took tons of great photos in the area with the city landscape and art. It made for funny wedding party conversations: my little nephew asked if what we were seeing was graffiti or art! The jungle themed venue is beautiful, and you don't need to bring in many decorations if you don't want to as the venue itself is very decorative. You can carve your name into the wooden bar if you bring in your own supplies, and we were lucky a family friend was happy to do this for us before the ceremony start time. I can't rave about this place enough, and our guests loved it too. Look no further than Millwick. You won't regret it and the people working there will help you until the very end. read more

I love this place. I wish I could just come and hang out here, and it wasn't just for events. I knew I was interested in a spot that was industrial with a lot of greens, so we contacted a few like Elysian, Studio 1342, Carondelet, Fig House, and the Unique Space. We ended up picking Millwick because of the special quirks like animal wallpaper at the bar and living room-type feel of the indoor and outdoor space (and there are FOUR really nice bathrooms). Looking back, I'm also glad we picked it because DTLA turned out to be a really unique area that I hadn't previously spent much time exploring (in comparison to sister venue SmogShoppe in Culver City). The pictures of Millwick don't really do the place justice. The whole feel of rolling up to an abandoned looking garage building and then turning the corner into an urban jungle really set the tone for the experience here. At night, the lights give it a nice, warm glow. And the sofa set in the middle of the outdoor space give it a cozy, relaxing feel. There are little accents everywhere that will make your photos really pop, like the parrot couch in the background or the gold textured wall by the bathrooms. This made it easy for us to not having to decorate, since we have no eye for it. We could just use the venue pretty much as is, and it was still gorgeous. While I loved the teal color of the dining chairs, my only complaint is that they aren't the most comfortable and look a little bit flimsy. You could swap them out with your own rentals, but the color really helps to accent the room. We booked our date about a year out to get the Saturday we wanted. The venue is really popular, so get in contact asap. You can always put a soft hold down with no charge. We worked with Helen on the booking and then with Dana once we put down the deposit. Dana was so helpful in the process and made sure we were following all of the rules so that we could get our entire deposit back (we did). She also gave us tips on what goes where and what other couples have done in the past, since we pretty much had no idea what we were doing. The venue has some quirks in pricing, although all of it is very clear at the time of booking. Like they have a kitchen, but depending on your caterer, you'll still have to bring in some of your own stuff like racks, trash cans, big pans, bar mats, etc because the venue doesn't have everything. Same goes for lighting- like there is obviously lighting at the venue, but there are some areas that are less lit, so you have to bring in some of your own uplights. Also, while the contract says you have to use the valet service (no street parking allowed), if you have fewer than some number of cars, you could just do the valet part of the service and skip the renting of the lot. If there's anything that isn't clear, just be sure to ask and the staff is great about communicating details and alternatives to you. On the day of, the site manager on duty was pretty easygoing and I didn't even end up interacting with him at all because he was so seamless. The venue was a really good size for our party of about 90. I could see it being a little too congested if the party size were 150, because while the space is big enough, most people tended to congregate by the bar, dance floor, and outside space. The best part about having an event here is how professional and knowledgeable the staff are. Most of our vendors were on Millwick's recommended vendors list, and they all turned out to be great. However, we had a few that weren't on the list, but they have had experience working there before and were in good standing. While Millwick is still relatively new, SmogShoppe has worked with so many vendors that they really know who is good, so be sure to ask for additional unlisted vendors! Working with vendors who have worked at Millwick before was super nice because the venue has some very specific rules (no stains on the floors so you need bar mats, no shots allowed, no confetti, rose petals, or sparklers) so it was easier just working with people who already knew the rules and what was going on. read more

Great Venue and staff. I DJ East and west coast weddings all the time. Allison and David at the Millwick are as GREAT as they come, fantastic people and Easy to work with. The Venue: Clean, Open floor Plan and Very nice appearance. Sound: The Sound is already built in to the place for DJ's. Bands on the other hand need to bring there own sound system. The location is very flexible on outside professionals. Parking: No on-site parking but they offer Valet Parking Services. This is a great venue to have a wedding in downtown LA and should be on your Prospect Potential locations. read more

We used Millwick for our wedding services and were absolutely delighted. The staff was wonderful! Dana was professional, responsive, and organized. The Site Managers made sure our event ran smoothly, and there was not a single issue the entire evening. The ambiance was immaculate. Guests were so impressed by the venue, and multiple people rushed up to us talking about how cool the space was! Our vendors were very pleased by the professionalism of the staff, and the availability of the existing infrastructure (i.e. fully working kitchen, sound system ect.) They have thought of every detail including the importance of potable water! Other major perks - it includes chairs, tables, lighting, sound, and really everything you need for a beautiful wedding. They also are VERY transparent and clear up front about what you need to pay for. My wife and I used Millwick for our wedding venue, and we were thrilled with their service and ambiance. The location was perfect and the staff were all exceedingly helpful. We're still getting compliments from guests and many have passed the location along to others planning weddings and events. We booked the location over a year before our event, and in that time the living wall and plants around the interior grew into an even more lush and inviting space. This greenery made our photos exceptional, and gave all our guests the feel of an open outdoor environment while still comfortably in the city. Millwick makes an event easy because they provide all the seating and tables needed for up to 150 guests, the kitchen is on-site, along with two bars at the ready. As with any wedding, we planned for months and months, but the venue on its own was set for a beautiful event without us lifting a finger. The flow between outdoor and indoor spaces is perfect and all the facilities are top notch. We loved Millwick and so did our guests. read more

Was a guest at the venue so I can only speak to my one-time experience there. The neighborhood doesn't do the interior justice. It is quaint inside and it is quiet, which was great for the wedding we attended. Doorman had a guest list and checked everyone. (Not sure if this is standard. Nice if it is.) There is an open courtyard in the middle and adjacent to that, a large room. No shade form the sun depending on where you're sitting in the open courtyard, but as soon as the sun dips a little under the top edge of the building, the light and heat become more bearable. The wedding maxed out capacity and it was, needless to say, tight quarters. Very tight. Near uncomfortably tight. Half the long table was indoors and the other half was outdoors. I would not use this venue if you're going to max it out. I can see, with less people, how this could end up being a very nice, serene space in an unexpected location. read more

We had our wedding at the Millwick this past May. We were actually the first couple (I believe) to reserve the venue, so when we reserved it it was still under construction, but we trusted the vision of the owners and also had seen Smog Shoppe and Marvimon and loved the overall aesthetic. It was a great decision! First of all, working with Helen during the booking process was great. She was the most professional and attentive person that we worked with during the whole venue shopping process. We really appreciated how she was totally honest with us as to keep our expectations reasonable, but also ultimately delivered for us and helped us get booked once we made or decision. Once we had booked the venue, we worked mostly with Dana, who was also awesome. She's so on top of things and was a vital resource for us in the wedding planning process. She helped answer a ton of questions for us (we would email her all the time asking for advice), and made sure we were on time and target with all of our planning. She was probably the most responsive person that we worked with during our whole planning process, responding to emails always within a day and always being available if we needed anything. Through Dana, we were able to find many of our vendors, including our planner, DJ, and staffing company. The venue itself was amazing, we got several comments from our guests about it from both family and friends. It was the most commented about aspect of our wedding for sure. The aesthetic is truly unique, I think if you go and see it yourself its quite obvious. We couldnt have been happier with how everything turned out. The fact that we were able to choose all of our own vendors made the wedding fun and unique. We were able to bring in Brazilian BBQ, a food truck, and pie hole for our food which was awesome compared to the venues that dont let you pick your own caterer. The cost of the venue itself was a little more expensive than some of the other venues that we looked at, but the fact that we were able to bring in our own vendors (and alcohol for example), more than balanced out the cost, and we ended up spending about the same for a much more personalized wedding. A couple last things that are great about the venue. It was great that they stay open late and there are a bunch of bars in the area that are walking distance for a convenient after party. We walked to Villains Tavern just down the street. Also, the area itself is great. We actually live in the Arts District, so it was really convenient for us, but just the whole vibe of the area with all of the art and industrial buildings makes for a unique setting. read more

first wedding i've attended as a guest, so forgive my wide eyed review. great hipster-y location and vibe to the place. 'a rose that grew from concrete,' as it were. as truly la as it gets on the border of the arts district and skid row; an oasis amidst the grimey wrangle. photo ops galore on adjacent streets featuring the best street art/murals in the city. i've worked serving for weddings. the service here was impeccable and heard from the bride herself that they were very conscious about her every need. the 5pm ceremony was a bit hot for summer, i was sweating in my jacket a bit at a 75 degree high. but being in that lush little courtyard lent the ceremony an organicity that was so special and representative of the trothed couple. read more

We had our wedding at Millwick and we loved every minute of it! The venue is beautiful, and you really don't have to do much to the space to make it yours. They have a wonderful large screen where you can projects films and pictures. They have tables and chairs plus a few additional tables, great lighting and a sound system. PLUS, you can pretty much select your vendors. You are not beholden to a limited list. Lastly- everyone is very friendly, helpful, organized and ultra cool. We worked mostly with Dana and Helen. They were very supportive and quick to respond. We had to move our wedding up a whole 3 months at the last minute and they were very accommodating. AMAZING VENUE! I met Dana when I first had an opportunity to walk about the venue for a wedding. She was very thorough in explaining house rules, requirements and how the spacing/layout transitions. Todd and Eric, site managers the day of the wedding, were helpful in securing the venue space and enforcing venue policies. This venue comfortably fits 200 guests with a nice little dance floor, established bar and kitchen and great ceremony and reception layout. Valet was helpful but parking can be a little complicated for vendors. read more

The layout of this place is awful. Went to a wedding here and it was 90 degrees outside and they decided to have the ceremony in the only outside portion of the facility. Sun setting right in the eyes of all the guests and no shade anywhere. It was not a nice area and it is 5 feet away from an air conditioned room... these people were not thinking. Furthermore, the tables are set up like a soup kitchen; just two big, long tables, making it hard to talk to both the people next to you AND the people across from youthe chairs they use are literally purchased from a doll furniture store: so cheap and tiny. They had so much space, but everything is SUPER CRAMPED andyou had to sit on top the person next to you while you were eating. For the money it costs to do a wedding here, you could purchase your own abandoned hipster warehouse and people wouldn't know the difference. read more

Millwick truly has it all. It was a bit over our intended venue budget, but when you factor in that it has so much built-in, like a great A/V system, tables and chairs, the cool bar, lots of comfy furniture, beautiful and lush style (it doesn't take much extra decor to make it look special), it felt very worth it to us. We loved how we could seamlessly transition from outdoor to indoor. On top of that, every single employee we worked with at Millwick was so friendly, detail-oriented, and organized. They handled every request or question with ease and seemed to have a beautiful PDF already prepared for everything we asked about. We were planning our wedding from afar and it felt so good to know that the team at Millwick is a well-oiled machine (with a lot of character), but we never felt like just another couple getting married there. Marvimon Productions has absolutely perfected the art of providing stunning venues with top-notch, professional service. Our daughter just got married at Millwick, and we wouldn't have held the event anyplace else. We, and our friends, are all from Orange County and nothing could compare. You hear the same buzz words over and over about the space- unassuming, tropical oasis, concrete jungle, pleasant surprise- and they are all true. The venue is purely magical from the gorgeous foliage to the string lights to the authenticity of the building. And the wallpaper in the bar....oh my goodness! Couple that with an exceptional Marvimon staff (huge kudos to Dana and Clare) who facilitated every detail along the way. It was truly an effortless planning experience with their help, which included the best vendor recommendations and wonderful timeline suggestions. Our guests continually commented it was the best wedding they had ever attended, and we can take no credit-- it was all due to the expertise and leadership of Millwick. We had our wedding here June 18th 2016 and I cannot recommend this venue enough. Not only is the venue gorgeous and fully furnished but the employees are so unbelievably on point. You can tell they are not new to the event / wedding game, everything with this venue is planned out to a T. The majority of our vendors were ones recommended by Millwick, and I am so glad we decided to go that route. Everyone they recommended was great, and since those vendors have worked the venue before, they already knew where things were, how to set up, etc. It was so simple. It might be more expensive than some other venues in the city but it is 100% worth every penny. We had around 110-115 guests and the size was perfect. The decor is a really cool eclectic mix of styles and we loved all the weird little tchotchkes they have around. We mostly worked with Dana for all the pre-wedding day set-up and she was wonderful. She was so quick to respond to any of our questions and definitely helped guide us along the way. Also, lol at the people who call this area of downtown "shady". If you are someone who considers the Arts District "shady" maybe you should do your wedding in the suburbs. Summary: Amazing venue, amazing people. Every guest will be in awe of how cool your wedding space is. read more

5+ stars for every possible aspect of the venue you can think of. We had our wedding on 3/12/16 and it was awesome. (Note: I did not have my ceremony here, only the reception.) 1. Employees: Helen and Dana are absolutely amazing; I can't imagine any customers or vendors they would butt heads with. They are accommodating, professional, friendly, and just really cool people to work with. They are laid back (not pushy whatsoever), but always on top of things at the same time. 2. Vendors: The venue does not have any vendors they require you to use (which is great). They do have a list of preferred vendors - we went with the DJ and valet Dana had recommended (DJ Art) and he was amazing, both as a person and a vendor - like the rest of the Millwick staff! :) They never pushed us to pick one vendor over another - Dana only provided names of vendors when I didn't already have a vendor in mind and specifically asked her for some recommendations. I definitely trust their judgment based on my experience with them. 3. Venue: Because this place is so new, the tables and chairs are clean and modern; you don't need any linens to "beautify" them. There is a huge white projector screen - which I thought was really cool. We played a few of our favorite movies with no sound as a background visual. The plants, the wallpaper behind the bar, the furniture, the gold walls indoors, and the hip blue garage doors all come together so well. The plants play a huge part in not having to add any extra decor. When you're inside the venue, it's easy to forget you're downtown. We literally added nothing for decor other than flowers on the tables for center pieces. We only rented plates, utensils and napkins and things we needed for catering. 4. Bathrooms: 4 unisex bathrooms 5. Alcohol/bar: BYOB - check! You do need to hire your own licensed bartenders, but your caterer should be able to provide for you. They have 2 bars - one indoors and one outdoors (with covering - so if it does rain, you can still use both bars). 6. Children: There are certain rules with respect to kids - the number of kids and at what point you do need a babysitter. This was not an issue at all - we hired one of my sisters friends to step in for a few hours to babysit until the kids went home (people with kids usually leave earlier anyway or they drop the kids off to sleep with a family member/friend to watch them at home and come back to party). The bridal room in the back is a perfect place for the babysitter to watch kids and hang out (away from the reception area). 7. Guests: We had approximately 150-160 guests (including kids). Didn't feel crowded at all. 8. Sound: I heard about sound being problem at Millwick, but I think that was before they installed additional speakers (I think it might have been as a result of complaints in the past - I appreciate that they take feedback seriously and take action to improve the venue). We had no problems/complaints about sound. This venue was perfect! We got the most compliments on the venue - not the flowers, or the food, or how nice the weather was that day... but the venue. It was that awesome. I wish I had an excuse to have another event here just to hang out in the cool space :) Thanks Millwick! read more

As an Event Coordinator I see many venues in the LA/Malibu area and there are none better than Millwick/the Marvimon venues! This space provides a kitchen, *great* sound system, custom tables, charming chairs, awesome house furniture, restrooms, an indoor/outdoor space, large cinema screen, disco ball, built in bar, and most importantly a strong team to help guide couples through the process. All of the items listed mean savings for the client, who doesn't have to worry about building out a kitchen or renting specialty furniture for additional seating. The spatial design makes this venue a hidden gem. When you walk in, you (and your guests) will hardly believe you are still in LA, but instead feel transported to an magical jungle, surrounded by beautiful plants and funky fresh elements. What's more is that the venue team has helpful rules that protect clients from subpar vendors. On the day of the event there are no surprises from the venue staff about items not in the house rules or contract - they've really done an expert job at making everything clear and transparent, which is not true of every venue. It's truly a unique space that your guests will really enjoy! read more

We did our due diligence and looked at a ton of wedding venues, but we always knew that Millwick was "the one." As longtime DTLA residents, we knew we wanted a space that reflected all our favorite elements of the city--skylines, lush high-drama greenery, this thrill of discovering something gorgeous behind an unassuming-looking front door. Millwick is somehow raw and super chic all at once, and we were excited that we wouldn't have to decorate it too much because the space is so beautiful on its own. Obviously it was stunning, but truly the best part about having our wedding at Millwick was working with Dana and the Marvimon team. Everyone is a pro. From a robust Preferred Vendors list, quarterly open houses (helpful for bringing our photographers), to design meetings and vendor walk throughs, Marvimon (Millwick's parent company) has systems in place that ensure success. Dana and Clare always answered our emails within 24hours; they predicted our questions and proactively answered them; they helped us land on a perfect floor plan for our vision; they connected us with our coordinator and made sure our wedding was executed to perfection; and, they made us feel so good and excited about the whole process. We felt completely confident that our day would be executed to perfection. Every vendor that we spoke to and booked was very excited to work at Millwick again because the team is so organized. Some of their House Rules add a few line items to the budget (mandatory valet, coordinator, etc.), but those additions were key to making the day as smooth as possible for guests, and were absolutely worth the extra fee. My now husband and I are both architects, so the architecture of our wedding venue was really important to us. The historic architecture of the building combined with the large barn-like doors and landscaping was perfect. The whole space made for stunning photos. The venue staff was also excellent. From our first meeting to our final walk through, they were helpful and extremely professional. Each staff member was very nice, and always great getting back to us for every question. Great place to host an event for 50-100 people. Shady area of downtown so when the Gaye opens what a surprise! Beautiful outdoor patio area. Inside area has live plants and trees along the sides for the concrete floor. A whole wall for presentations. Cute decor with tropic, modern, creative twist. I only saw two single bathrooms when I went but millwick reached out to me asking that I change his portion of review because they have 2 more. (Definitely would love to have next company/strategic planning/offsite here. And auntie ems is close enough that they will cater. Valet parking. It's also a good thing that it's nestled in a shady area with valet so that people aren't tempted to steal away when you need a captive audience! read more

My husband and I got married at Millwick in February and it was truly the venue of our dreams! The decor is amazing. They've done such a great job of blending the tropical foliage with the industrial vibe of the space. They provide tables, chairs, and other lounge furniture that fits the space very well. The bathrooms are very cool too but I think my favorite part was the bridal suite. Perfect place for a bride to put on finishing touches. We met with Helen first who gave us a great overall sense of everything to help us make our decision. After booking, we worked closely with Dana up until our big day. We loved Dana! She was so easy to work with, extremely knowledgeable and super prompt with getting back to us on any questions. We would highly recommend this venue and I would love to attend or host another event here again because I loved it so much! read more

My husband I got married here a few months ago and we were so happy with the venue! It is a beautiful space that feels like you are stepping into an oasis into the open courtyard, while at the same time having a cool, urban, chic decor in the indoor warehouse space. The staff are wonderful - quick to respond to emails/questions/inquiries, super friendly, and willing to be flexible and accommodating to fit your needs. That being said, they do have a lot of rules that come with using the space, including requiring valet parking service, event insurance, renting your own trash bins and floor mats for the kitchen, and more. That and the venue rental fee itself make it a bit on the pricey side, but the fact that you can bring in your own caterers/bartenders and provide your own alcohol helps to cut down the cost. In the end, we felt it was worth it and in hindsight would still gladly choose to have our wedding here again! Yes, it's gorgeous, yes it's incredibly green, yes the people are amazing to work with and yes it's expensive for a wedding venue, but it is 100% worth it!! Finding a unique wedding venue in LA is not easy - we didn't want a hotel/country club style wedding and we didn't want a big empty warehouse. Millwick is a great venue for LA peeps because you can only go if you're invited to an event there - gives a fun, exclusive feel to the whole event. The place comes well equipped with chairs (that are more comfortable than you think), tables, great sound system and fun accent furniture. The kitchen is equipped, but if your event is over 100, you'll need to bring a lot of rentals in, so be sure to factor that into your budget. We brought many guests from Mexico and LA, and every single guest was blown away with the location. Ask Dana and the team about the history of Millwick - it's also got an amazing history that's fun to share with guests. We wouldn't have wanted out wedding anywhere else!! read more
