Delivery is a total rip off. At least 50 percent missed delivery and contacting customer service actually raises it to 90 percent missed delivery. Also gross over billing and the only time they are in the ball is when they call you to harass you to pay for papers they have not delivered. And besides charging for the so called premium editions they have the gall to not refund me a full month -because they said it was a temporary hold! Terrible service, carrier, quality and content. Would give them a negative rating if possible . MJS manager lacked empathy and concern for a 60+ years subscriber whose concerns have repeatedly fallen on deaf ears for the last year and gone unresolved. My mother was brought to tears by the manager and she finally canceled her subscription. She's very disappointed, but her concerns have caused too much stress. A carrier should not write theats of a personal lawsuit on the newspaper, should not deliver old issues, should not deliver issues during a stop hold and should not wadd the paper up and fire it like a baseball at a glass door. MJS should not have excessofly long hold times and should not treat a longtime loyal subscriber so poorly. It's no wonder the paper is failing and subscriptions are down. MJS should hire enough people with actual customer service and problem solving skills to answer the phones in a timely manner. They should actually resolve issues and follow up with customers to make sure issues are resolved to the customers satisfaction. They should not let them go. They should show more empathy and concern for their customers. They should accomodate the elderly and people with disabilities, not put them at risk - not threaten them - not destroy their property - not drive them away. If they continue to lack respect for their customers and not resolve the issues, they deserve their fate and will become obsolete. read more

Paid in advance for the month of October 2019. Now saying that since they raised the subscription rate I'm only paid through Oct 27 and want more $. They have done this previously. I was a long time newspaper subscriber and have now cancelled subscription. Enough is enough. Since they were purchased by Gannet, the service has gone from high to zero or less. Customer service is now answered in the Philippines. Made a complaint once to the BBB. Newspaper never responded to the BBB. That should say something in itself. At one time there was an alternative - Journal (afternoon) vs. Sentinel (morning). Now nothing. A customer still has the option of no service means no subscription. read more

I don't really get into print or TV news, there's so many resources on the internet that are better at reporting the news without bias that are free, so there really isn't a reason for me to read this actual paper. I do enjoy the recipes in the food section and the coupons on Sunday as well, that's why I had a Sunday-Wednesday only subscription. Outside of the once in a while recipe on Wednesday, that paper just ends up being recycled. I cancelled my subscription today. It's not that I'm not happy with the coupons or recipes, they're fine. It's the customer service department. They continually charge me more than I agreed to for a subscription. I call them up and they revert back to the old price. Now I've gone two months (after they promised me last month it would revert back to the normal price) were they charged me entirely too much, more than it would cost at the store. This was never the case in the past, if you had the subscription, you would save significantly. The woman on the phone couldn't explain to me the pricing structure or anything on the phone, so she transferred me to a "Senior Sales Agent". This agent had a hard time uttering "Hello, this is the Milwaukee Journal" along with explaining to me anything about my account. I told her I wanted to cancel, she said she "didn't know why since I didn't have any delivery complaints on record". I told her that my main issue was with the billing department, plus I did call for a missed Sunday delivery in August (which I didn't get until Thursday?!?) and I had called to complain many other times, but since I rarely wake up by 10 AM on the weekend, I miss their call hours. They tell you to take care of it online, but you need your account number to access it, and if you don't keep it handy you have to call for it. This paper is not worth the trouble, even for the money saving coupons. read more

My Great Grandmother passed away and my Grandmother contacted the Journal to post/write her obituary. My grandmother then sent the obituary to our immediate family so we could see it before it was posted. One small issue, my son, who would be my Great Grandmother's, Great Great Grandson was listed as "Great Grandson." This may seem like a small detail, but you only get one obituary in your life and it should be correct. I then called my Grandmother to explain the mistake, she was in a doctors office waiting for her appointment and didn't have the contact information of the woman that assisted her with the obituary. I then searched the Journal Sentinel and found a phone number to call so I can assist in resolving this issue. My Grandmother also informed me that the writer of the obituary said they had a 2pm deadline and since it was 1:45 I called right away. Well, it's now 2:27 and after going through the system and being hung up on by the automated system the first time I called back and was redirected to the automated system again, but this time I've been on hold for over 40 minutes and now it is way past 2pm. In a more and more paperless world you would think the Journal Sentinel would pride themselves on customer service, but that's obviously not the case. I'm extremely disappointed and it's ridiculous that this is acceptable. Good luck Journal Sentinel, terrible reviews from all involved, coincidence? I think not. Update: I was on hold for 1 hour and 2 minutes, then I was transferred to a voicemail box to leave a message. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!! Next update: I left a voicemail after being on hold for over an hour. Kristen called me back and apologized and said it must have been a phone issue as there are plenty of people on staff to take my call. The issue with the obituary was corrected in less than 30 seconds. Not sure how if can be a phone issue if I was on hold for over an hour, more or less that no one wanted to pick up the phone. read more

Not even deserving of one star. Promotional ad for new Milwaukee Journal Sentinel subscriber states "99cents per week for the first 12 months; $4.30 per month on EZ pay for the first 12 months. Includes Sunday and Wednesday delivery of the Journal Sentinel". When I called to order a subscription for my 94 year old father, I was told the cost was $13/month if I wanted the print edition Monday through Sunday. When I asked about the $4.30/month deal, I was told that was for the digital access. WHAT? It didn't say anything about digital access in the promotional ad from Valpac of Southeast Wisconsin for that price. Shame on you for this misleading scam! read more

I give my credit card information and am told to wait 24 hours and nothing happens. I tried this 4 times. I tried emailing and am told to call customer service. It covers the basics decently, and I enjoy the Cue section (especially now that they've done the redesign) for its 3 pages of cartoons... but it doesn't have a serious investigative journalist and most of the reviewers are way too smarmy for my taste. read more

If I could rate a 0 I would. Was offered a special promotion for Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. They took $131.50 out of my account on March 11th. Only received Sunday. Called 6 times and was assured it was taken care of. Every day, came and went and no papers delivered. Just terrible customer service. Last call to cancel. I was told I would receive a refund in 7-14 days and I would receive a cancellation notice through email, well guess what no email. Just plain terrible company. read more

If negative stars were a possibility that is what I'd rate them. The paper is horrible, majority being ads. Print density is so light now that it looks like it's being printed in "ink saving mode". The rate is now OVER $300-$400 per year. And, they charge an extra $5 for the "special inserts" which most people wouldn't care to pay for, if given a choice. The inserts are full of ads, which they Gannett, get paid for!! So, they are not only charging the advertisers, they are charging us for the HONOR of receiving the ads!! The recent "black Friday" issue of the MJS was $5.00........I heard many people telling the clerks that they didn't want it then.......subscribers have decreased, subscription prices have increased, it's a LOSING destiny!!! read more

This organization has service issues. And unfortunately, their system seemingly doesn't have any method to address problems. We live in Mequon on a major road, and have a mailbox/paper box on the curb; all they have to do is insert the paper in the slot....Simply you say? Delivery is spotty at best. Sure, we can call, and someone may drop off a paper later in the day when we don't need it. But since there seems to be a systemic problem with delivery we hoped to talk to a manager to address the ongoing root issue. When we call and navigate through the unfriendly on line system, we are unable to actually talk to a manager. "They will call back." But of course, they never do. After two months of fighting this, we called one last time. "Talk to a manager?" "No you can't do that." How about cancelling our subscription, and refunding our money? "Sure, we can do that!" Deceptive practices ...... I echo many of the comments made by others. Three things to be aware of - 1) The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reduces your subscription period if you fail to opt out of a variety of its "special pieces". 2) Note you have to "opt out" and based on my conversation it's not clear that verbally telling a customer service rep is sufficient. In my case, she told me to check and make sure that I did not get the "special pieces" because she could not confirm that I was opted out. 3) So to make matters worse, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel will not allow you to cancel at the time of subscription ie. I want to stop the paper effective the end of the agreed to subscription period. YOU have to call back and ask them to cancel it at some point closer to when your subscription ends (obviously they are hoping you forget and they can get a few more dollars from you). I learned all of this as I was calling to re-subscribe. Upon learning that they were this deceptive, I had one choice which was simply to cancel the service. I like supporting local businesses, but not when their practices are shady. So, my suggestion --- look elsewhere for your news --- there are plenty of options. I expect much higher quality service. read more

I subscribe to the Sunday only MJS. The route carrier delivers both the Kenosha News and MJS. Problem is I have had nothing but delivery issues with the MJS and will cancel today. I have called numerous times and talked to both a computer and human being. I am promised delivery of the misses paper that day and never receive the paper and no credit to my account. The choice of not having a human being to talk to on a Sunday is a mistake. I had to wait over 40 minutes yesterday to receive a call back. That tells me your delivery system is in shambles. I doubt that the MJS really cares about their customers. I can't tell you the amount of times we've not received a Sunday paper only to either have to call before 10-am or get on the jsonline/service before 10:30-am and request a Sunday paper be delivered. For awhile we ran into the same problem with daily delivery they seem to have that worked out. Today we received the "new" designed MJS paper. Are you serious? Eight pages to the front section. There is not enough paper there to wrap stuff from cleaning fish. They continue to raise the price and the paper gets smaller. It's a joke. It's to bad someone doesn't start up a paper locally that has substance and more then 8 pages to the front section. read more

Seriously - some weeks I receive the Sunday TV Cue (which I really like) and some weeks not. When I complained today, they explained that section is 50 cents additional! Wow. My father had a subscription starting with the old Milwaukee journal for over 60 years. He recently moved and I tried to help him move the delivery to his new residence. After 6 phone calls I called to cancel since he STILL wasn't getting the paper(we ultimately tried to have it mailed), I was told that the account had been made inactive. No one told us that last little bit of information. This saga took almost one month-the only reason we held on that long was because he loved the journal sentinel. Misinformation, errors, lack of follow through, incompetence. I have to agree with the people that call bs on bemoaning of the loss of readership. We tried to stay subscribed about as hard as we could-they just couldn't get a physical paper to a guy who wanted to read it. read more

Hello. My wife and I received the Sunday and Wednesday paper. As of late we stopped receiving the paper so we called last Sunday. The lady then was not helpful and stated things that she would do, and they never happened. Things like having a new bill by Tuesday of this week. She also told us we were mailed a bill in January. We said ok, we paid that and it is August. She replied, "Oh, yeah.........I guess your right". At least we were not charged for that free entertainment. Today my wife called and spoke with someone who stated we have three accounts now. He asked us if we wanted to receive multiple papers on the days we want it. Not sure why. Then he stated we have to call someone else to handle it, again not sure why. Wasn't he customer service? That was how he answered the phone when we called the customer service line. We asked for the manager multiple times and were not able to get that information. Then the man told us the manager quit yesterday. My wife then stated how we want the paper to start tomorrow and he should handle their error of three accounts. The person then hung up on us. I'm not a fan of the paper, but need to subscribe now because I need to get the North Shore Now that comes inside it. But I have been unsuccessful to date. Do not every try to contact this publication about subscription issues unless it was a missed delivery that day, and even then, good luck ever seeing a redelivery. And do NOT subscribe to the North Shore Now - I was a subscriber for years, and I think I should have about that many years in credit for undelivered papers. Now they've officially merged the NS Now in with the Journal, and I don't get anything. Apparently now it's in the Wednesday paper and not Thurs...after spending an hour on the phone and another hour on online chat, I have found out that my Now subscription was simply terminated and I will receive a refund sometime in the next few months for what was left. At least they found the account - for years I was some man named Lloyd in Waukesha because our phone numbers were one digit off each others and someone transcribed them in the file. I need to get the North Shore Now professionally - and it isn't available on newsstands, and I need the print copy. I think my only recourse is to subscribe now to the Journal for one day a week - but can't seem to get anyone on the phone, on chat, or do it online...and I can't do just the one day a week - suffice it to say, working with this publication is NOT easy. read more

The Milwaukee journal used to provide an excellent service, dependable delivery and credit for vacation hold, talk to real people on the telephone. But a year or so ago they decided to be anti-service, sadistic "service". Delivery is spotty- hit or miss, usually late. Talking to a representative on the phone- phoney! They say you can have can call them, but then they try to steer you to their web site. They say they will call you back- but do not include that as one of the choices available. And the web site- the worst I have ever had the misfortune of using. First you have to somehow get past their commercials before you can log in. The menu choices are not clear, but I was able to get to vacation hold. They do not give you a confirmation email. They allow you to make mistakes like having the hold to start in the previous year. They do not allow you to cancel a vacation hold online. You have to go to their "chat room". Texting something in gets tedious- keep your words to a minimum, don't waste time or the rep will think you gave up and end the session. The last 3 vacation holds have been botched- --the newspapers were not held- I came home to find a week of newspapers stuffed into the box or on the ground. I should have just put up a neon sign saying "burglars welcome". The delivery guy was no Sherlock Holmes. -- the newspapers did not start when they were supposed to -- after finally getting to the "service" chat guy who " notified the carrier to resume delivery"- still no delivery. Don't waste your time trying to complain. And the content of the newspaper- I have seen 5th grade themes papers with more content. Hardly what you expect from "journalists". Worst customer service ever. I signed up a friend that had cancelled his membership (after 20 years of membership) because of the drastic increase in price. After two weeks he didn't receive a single newspaper. They still took my money for it. After calling them didn't work, I talked via their chat. Representative was apologetic and told me they would credit me and get the the problem rectified. Two weeks later and still no paper. After finally getting somebody to respond I find out that they no longer deliver to that address/area. My father receives a newspaper and is less than 3 mins from the address they said they can't serve. Needless to say I cancelled this membership. It is just so sad they they seem not to care about print anymore. The paper is getting thinner and thinner. Some of their best customers like to read and feel the paper in their hands but they don't seem to care about them anymore. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This should be new functionality for the Yelp app. I asked for my paper delivery to be resumed on 12/20. Today is 1/4 and I finally got an as-scheduled delivery. I called and talked to someone or used the automated phone reporting every day. By the way, the automated phone reporting system has a bug which hasn't been fixed yet. It says there is an application problem when it uses the date of the missed paper. So how many times, how much can I complain? My carrier missed me 15 DAYS STRAIGHT!!! When I called on the 15th day, I was told that maybe the carrier was on vacation. Isn't the purpose of home delivery to get the paper? I guess customer service doesn't realize that. During the period of time I missed the papers, even though re-delivery was requested, I only got paper 2 times. And even though I was promised call backs from various managers and supervisors, I never got even 1 call. Hmmmmm.... What does that say for customer service in the Journal Sentinal newspaper corporate culture? I guess they are phasing out home delivery or my problem would have been more important. read more

Their customer service is the worst!! I agreed to a digital subscription back in May for the introductory price of .99/month for three months. I was double billed for May, June, and July and then in August I was billed the normal price of 7.99/month, which I understood from the beginning would be the price after the first 3 months. I called in June when I realized I was getting double billed and was told a supervisor would call me within 24 hours. A week later no one had called me so I called back and this very pleasant woman assured me that my account would be credited immediately. July came along and again I was double billed, called back and this very pleasant man told me "yes, you have been doubled billed, I'll take care of it." Never happened, when I saw that I was billed 7.99 for August and never credited for the double billing I emailed complaining about the situation and received an automated reply, no mention of my problems, just that billing issues had to be done over the phone. I called and again explained my problem and told them I wanted to cancel. The guy I spoke with said he would tell the billing department to credit my account and that my subscription would be cancelled. I got an email telling me how sorry they were I was cancelling, but am still waiting for a credit, which will come when h*** freezes over I'm sure. Everyone is so pleasant on the phone and you think maybe it will be taken care of and it's all just lip service. It's so frustrating!! I too, would give less than 1 star if I could. i have had the paper delivered to me for over 25 years off and on. the customer service totally sucks, wait 2-3 hours to speak to someone, is there only 1 person working there, i see why you lose so many customers, u dont reply to my calls or anything. the person that delivers, a hispanic lady is ok, its not her fault the company sucks. i have been trying to speak to a supervisor for 2 years and still waiting for his call. also i have not had 1 correct bill since restarting my service again. the bill charges me for monthly subscriptions when i ordered 3 a week. i really feel bad, what happened to you people, i used to really like the milwaukee setenil and journal,its to bad read more

There are things I like about the paper in terms of content, especially the sports section and some of the features. Our most recent carrier for a couple of years was terrific. So, why 2 stars? Because every time you need to call them about something related to your subscription (a confusing bill, a service issue, etc) it's a bad day ... frustration and confusion after delay in answering and being on hold, and on and on. I have the feeling that between each call from me they must have put in a new system that people in their office are still figuring out, or that the office staff is all newcomers. Probably neither of these is really the case, but perhaps you know what I mean in terms of giving off the impression that the whole system is creaking and groaning. My last invoice was very confusing in terms of the rate and the coverage period. I finally gave trying to understand and just ignored it. Then when we went out of town for medical treatments I put the subscription on hold. And now I will simply rely on other sources for the news. My father was a journalist and I've always had newspapers. But I guess I can shake the Journal Sentinel habit and avoid the aggravation. read more

We used to enjoy getting the paper every day. We had an excellent carrier who was always nice and early. I was able to read the paper before going to work. It was great. But then the Journal decided to change their routes and our carrier had to give up delivering the paper because they put her on a route a long way from her home. We downsized our subscription, partly because the new carrier wasn't consistent with the delivery times (if it came at all) and the increase in subscription rate was ridiculous given the lack of news it contained. Comics were deleted, Monday's papers were only 7-10 pages and I was paying for ads for businesses that I wouldn't be using. I have been paying extra to have the tv section delivered on Sundays but haven't received that section in over a month. I'm on hold now with Customer No Service - wait time is 23 minutes. That's my entire lunch break. Hopefully I'll get to talk to someone before I have to go back to work. At least I got to this point. Usually I get a busy signal or no answer at all. Honestly, I don't know how they can run a newspaper this way and expect to retain customers. I will be moving in a few months and will not be forwarding my subscription. read more

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is quick to sign you up for a new subscription, but takes FOREVER to answer their calls when you want to make changes to your subscription. I was on the phone today for 21 minutes before my issue was addressed by the "appropriate" department. We're dropping the paper due to non-relevance, and poor customer service. read more

I have contacted the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on the following dates: 10/8/2018, 10/26/2018, 10/29/2018, 11/1/2018, 11/9/2018, 11/112018, 11/12/2018, and 11/13/2018 regarding INCORRECT BILLING AMOUNT on my account. Renewal date 11/1/2018. Last paper received date 10/24/2018. Renewed subscription on 10/29/2018 using the EZ method payment plan, which was $8.51 per month plus Premium Edition whenever the Premium Edition was delivered. 8.51 x 12 = 102.12 NOT 178.68. Received notification that $178.68 was charged to my credit card. Called on 10/26/2018 to find out why $178.68 was charged. Given the talking point about rates went up and was notified about the rate increase in July (2018). That was July (2018) this is October (2018). Why did the online showed $8.51 per month if used EZ method and received an invoice showing $168.97 due if paid annually? Person could not answer the question. Subscription was CANCELLED on 10/26/2018. Called Credit Card Company explained the situation to them. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel credited my credit card $150.99 on 11/6/2018. Called Milwaukee Journal on 11/9/2018 asking why only $150.99 was credited. Was told someone from Accounting Department will call me back. You guess it! As of this date (11/21/2018), no call back. I am beginning to think the correct charge for the subscription renewal was $150.99 NOT $178.68 that was charged to my credit card. My credit card company sent me an email on 11/16/2018 advising if the credit does not resolve my dispute to let them know. They will continue to investigate on my behalf. I WILL LET MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY handled this dispute. I am wondering if there is some embezzlement going on at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel because of the complaints I have read regarding the different amount in charges for the subscription. WARNING: If you can go online to pay for your subscription DO NOT I REPEAT, DO NOT USE IT!
