Mimi Chinese is a great modern take on Chinese food in South Beach. The dishes are creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Loved the dumplings and shrimp toast appetizers. The place has beautiful décor with low-light accents, giving it a warm, romantic vibe. Great cocktails and friendly service. The not so great is the parking situation, even with valet parking across the street from Yardbird Table & Bar can be a difficult.

    Valentine's Day preset menu

Let me set the scene: there is an upscale Chinese restaurant in Miami Beach that is located inside of a Firestone (or rather the same building) I came here for Valentine's Day and it was a good experience. The food was good and the ambiance was nice. Restaurant: overall the aesthetics of this place were amazing. Very well decorated, a more romantic restaurant as the lights are pretty dim, the interior is red. Service: the service was good, but almost too good. It felt like we were being rushed because all the food was coming out so fast, and the second we finished a plate it was already being taken out from beneath us. I mumbled something about the food being hot and they heard me, and gave me a tip on how to make it cool down faster. Which was sweet, but also made it feel like we didn't have much privacy. Food: overall pretty good but some dishes definitely did not hit the mark for me, and for the price we paid, it definitely should have. I really recommend the chicken dumplings, and the smashed cucumber salad. The sea bass (ginger) and the noodles, both of which I was super excited for were honestly a bit disappointing. I think they were missing a bit of acidity, and I felt like after dipping them in the vinegary sauce of the cucumber salad it was much better. The steak was perfectly cooked and I really liked the fried rice that had lobster (and is supposed to have pork but we opted out). The rice was missing a bit of seasoning, but the steak was very salty, so they balanced eachother out. The bok choy was also a bit disappointing, as it felt a bit undercooked. I usually love bok choy but I think this one should have been cooked a bit longer. The dessert that we got was good, it was a steamed cake with duck egg custard inside and a milky sauce on top. Yummy, and good if you don't have a huge sweet tooth. Their drink selection is expansive and they even offer mocktails!

    GENERAL TSO CHICKEN

I visited Mimi Chinese for dinner on Sunday night with two of our friends. We'd made a reservation for four at 7 PM, but a member of our party was unable to make it, so my friend who'd made the reservation called the restaurant to let them know we'd be three instead of four. When she called, she was told on the phone that the reservation was for two at 7:30 PM (it wasn't). Confused, we arrived at 7 PM and were seated immediately because the restaurant wasn't busy yet. The restaurant is decorated in red and has lovely lighting. I especially liked the seating. We perused the menu for a few minutes and decided on an appetizer, but our server explained that we would have to order everything at once. So, we hurriedly decided on all the items so as not to keep him waiting. To start, we ordered the CROSSED ARM CHICKEN DUMPLINGS, which were good but a little bland (despite the sauce they're served with), and the SMACKED CUCUMBER SALAD which was nothing special. We then shared the GENERAL TSO CHICKEN, GINGER & SCALLION SEA BASS, STIR FRIED RICE NOODLE ROLLS and the BLACK PEPPER STEAK. When our food was served, we were given the GREEN SCALLION FRIED RICE instead of the STIR FRIEND RICE NOODLE ROLLS, but that was quickly corrected. Luckily, the service was pretty good, because the meal left much to be desired. The chicken was the best of the entrees, in my opinion. The fish was perfectly cooked, but also a bit bland. The stir friend noodle rolls were nothing to write home about. The worst thing we ordered was the BLACK PEPPER STEAK, which of course was the most expensive thing we ordered (we somehow missed the whopping $129 price tag). We'd ordered the steak medium, but when it arrived, it was overcooked and bland (probably closer to well done than medium). It was so bad in fact that I only took a bite of it, which turned out to be a very good thing because we all got sick after the meal. One of the three got sicker than the other two and she'd just happened to have eaten more of the steak than the other two. So we've surmised that the steak was the culprit. For dessert, we shared the sundae, which was enjoyable. Overall, I'd give Mimi Chinese one star if it weren't for the service which was actually quite good. I was very much looking forward to trying Mimi Chinese since finding good Chinese food in Miami is a challenge. Sadly, I was grossly disappointed with the experience.

I loved this place, the food was awesome, the service and the vibe was spot on. We tried the 4 foot noodle, the pork belly and the crispy chicken. Everything was delicious. The place is a little hidden no signs and parking is on the street but once you get inside it is a relaxed, modern and cool vibe. They also had some great cocktails .Will definitely go back. Not overly priced. .

This place was a disappointment from start to finish. First off, the parking situation makes no sense. The sign is hard to see, and when I walked up, I literally had to step over a passed-out homeless man right by the front door. Not exactly the best first impression. When I asked about parking, I was told they work with the valet at Yardbird--but how would anyone know that before walking in? I decided to stay and give the food a shot, but it didn't get much better. The shrimp toast was $22 for two pieces, and I expected some kind of creative twist, but it was just a greasy sandwich with a single prawn and way too much yum yum sauce. Next, I ordered the soup dumplings--$23 for three, and they even upsold me to add a fourth. All four were stuck to the paper, and when I pulled them up, the soup leaked out completely. Terrible execution. Still hungry, I tried the chicken karaage, eggplant, and belt noodles. The noodles were all presentation but little flavor, with barely any sauce. The eggplant was drowning in soy sauce and inedible. The karaage was basically popcorn chicken--overly breaded and not worth the price. The only positives: the space looks nice inside and the service was genuinely good. But between the parking hassle, the prices, and how bad the food was, I can't give this place more than 2 stars.

Ambience and food are definitely worth it. However, my group and I were about to go somewhere else after we waited over an hour for our table when we had reservations. The hostess kept saying "a few more minutes" like 10 times. We were very hangry at that point. When we finally got seated, they had just ran out of the 4 foot noodle which was really the main thing we wanted to order. Sigh. They tried to redeem themselves with an appetizer and a tiny bit of champagne on the house. But let me tell you- the shrimp toast app they gave us was soooo good. So good we ordered another one lol. Everything we ordered per the servers recommendations were all 10/10. The shrimp toast, green beans, noodle rolls and striped jack were unreal. Outside of our initial reservation experience, highly recommend!

Full of style and flavor I visited Mimi Chinese Restaurant for the first time yesterday, and it was an excellent experience from the moment we walked in. The place has a unique vibe, reminiscent of an underground New York restaurant. The décor blends mystery with sophistication, creating an elegant yet cozy atmosphere that immediately makes you feel at ease. Service was on point from the start, beginning with a refined cocktail menu that sets the tone for what's to come. The food menu features modern Chinese cuisine--thoughtfully curated and beautifully executed. For starters, we had the tuna, which was good but not particularly memorable. However, the shrimp toast was absolutely amazing: a kind of toasted sandwich, beautifully presented, with an explosion of incredible flavors. We also tried the pork and shrimp dumplings, which were okay, although I'm not a huge fan of dumplings personally. For mains, we ordered the Hidden Crispy Chicken, the Pork Belly, and the Four Foot Belt Noodle. All of them were fantastic--flavorful, well-prepared, and artfully plated. To finish, we shared the Steam Cake, which was delicious and surprisingly generous--a single portion is easily enough for four people. Overall, I found the pricing fair and in line with other high-end restaurants in Miami. It was a very enjoyable evening shared with friends in a place I would absolutely return to. Highly recommended.

Came here on a Friday night and the restaurant has amazing ambience and decoration. All of the staff from the hostess to the servers were very on point and gave out great recommendations. The cocktails were great they even had an in house sommelier. I recommended the belt noodles and Chili sea bass. All around a great experience

Really enjoyed my time at Mimi. Once inside you don't really feel like you're on Miami Beach. Love the intimacy of the space, the ambiance, and the attention to detail. The mojito is very different and worth a try. We started with the chicken dumplings and they couldn't have been better. The ginger sauce is fantastic. The General Tso's Chicken is very good. That said, if you're not into sweet flavors it may not be the best entree. The sea bass is a whole fish, not a filet, and mostly without bone. They have two versions, one savory and one very spicy. We also had the scallion rice. It was good but we would have preferred the shrimp fried rice. All in all, it was a very good experience. We also enjoyed the service as well.

Miami has finally landed a food-focused, phenomenally tasting Chinese restaurant. Everything about this place makes it a stand out restaurant in the overpopulated food scene. The ambience is perfect for a date night, although it does get loud and is quite dark (being your readers!) but it's very intimate, the decor is beautiful, and overall you feel transported to another dimension. The food is really why we're here; Miami doesn't have enough Chinese places where the food is traditional, specially not in a convenient location (hello tropical Chinese). I was pleasantly surprised, and left incredibly full! The scallop had all the components to make it an amazing dish, but it didn't blow me out of the water; Stick to the dumplings! As far as General Tso chicken goes, I've had my share and can confidently say this is one of the best ones. It's all the flavors of your inexpensive comfort food, elevated. The supreme fried rice was just okay, but it's a massive portion and great for sharing! The 4 foot belt noodles was so fun, they bring scissors to the table and cut up this GIANT noodle right at the table. Very fun! Overall the flavors were good but it needed more beef!!! It felt like the beef sauce wasn't hanging to the noodle but I still enjoyed it! Now for the real star, you can't miss the steamed cake dessert. I can't say enough good things about this! Just get it and thank me later. As for service, everyone was very attentive, super friendly, and our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable. Great experience, we will be back very soon for more!

We went to Mimi's last Saturday for a last minute date night, and we couldn't say enough about how great it was. We sat at the bar and immediately when we sat down, we were welcomed by Mario right away. Mario, and all the staff (especially the bar staff!) were incredibly attentive, the food came fast, and there was not a moment our drinks were empty! We did the chef's choice / tasting menu and added the shrimp toast with uni in addition as well. We had four courses in total with 3-4 separate dishes with each of the courses. It was so much food, we had to take home almost a whole course! The food was incredible, and for the amount of food, the tasting menu was definitely worth it. I couldn't recommend Mimi's more, and will be back again soon!

I don't even know where to start with this one! The elegance and beauty of this restaurant is out of this world! The service is out of this world. First class rice and the food is just wow. High end Chinese food at its finest. We got the Miami spice menu and very worth it. You get to try a little bit of everything. My favorite were the noodles and general tso chicken! Don't walk, run there!

This place was highly recommended by one of my friends, so I had to check it out! The ambiance was very romantic and elevated, lots of red and black in their decor. Loved the hidden crispy chicken (however it wasn't covered in red chillis like I was hoping), the shrimp toast, and the chicken dumplings. Our waiter even suggested truffle noodles (off the menu) which was fire!! The service was amazing at first, but slowly as we got more and more into our dining experience, our waiter was nowhere to be found. The food took forever and we waited a good 30 minutes for our check. It may have been cause the place started to become busy but regardless, solid experience overall.

Nothing really to make it seem special like the wagyu name implied. Pork Belly Ramen: This is pretty solid for food court ramen. It's no Ippudo, but the broth is very rich and pork. I liked the mix of corn and cabbage as veggies. The pork belly didn't seem slow cooked or tender. It was more like grilled. So some parts of fat were a bit too chewy (whereas a slow cook would melt in your mouth).

Dan Dan noodles had so much flavor, chili beef dumplings were thick and juicy, and the pork and shrimp dumplings were cooked perfectly. However when my fiance asked for a check all we got was one of the handheld devices with the total. I thought it was strange when the server said tipping was optional after the tap, and the options were 1%, 3%, and 5%. Since the food and service were great, I wanted to tip 15%, so I changed it to a custom value and did my own math. However when I got my printed receipt, there was a 20% service fee, plus my custom tip of 15%. Being from LA, when restaurants have the mandatory service fee, they usually tell you at the host stand or after you just sat down. I felt like this place was shady although it is in their fine print on their menu. What the server could have done is said "service fee is already included," after the tap, not "tipping is optional." I did like the service, but the 35% tip was not well deserved. I didn't feel like they went above and beyond and like I said, there's a special type of mannerism that I feel was a huge miss about the service fee, which could of been handled more professionally.
