Double Luck was recently placed on Infatuations top 25 best restaurants in Miami. For that reason I have to give my honest review as I feel like that deserves merit. Merit that I do not think Double Luck deserves just yet. My honest review is more like 3.5 stars. The atmosphere and service were great, particularly I can say that the servers had a great attention to detail with all the tables. It felt like they came at all the right times and had a keen on instantly picking up trash from a table or dirty plates that made us feel great and well taken care of. Now onto the food, we started off with crab raccoons, and the say the least it was pretty underwhelming, and not as expected. The filling had a strong almost like cheese, filled paste, very little crab, taste, and feel. We then ordered the eardrop salad with cucumber, and I would like to say this was probably the best meal of the night and it was a salad very refreshing light great textures, a true delight. We then proceeded to order the crab fried rice along with the Hennessy chicken. The crab fried rice was good as you would expect. It's fried rice and nothing special. Nothing on this world could probably get this anywhere and have the same taste in fuel. Good size was the portion it's completely shareable with one other person which was honestly great. The Hennessy chicken was just how you would expect it like walking into a more upscale panda express. Overall, that's just how it felt like we were at a more elevated. Upscale Chinese restaurant did not really feel too traditionally Chinese just maybe a place that wants to look sexy for the Instagram photos. To be put on a top 25 restaurant in Miami with the great places and and who is I think you need to really elevate your game and stand out when it comes to the food and not just the gimmicks. I have a true soft spot for the hospitality industry so I would never give a restaurant three stars as I know how hard it is to do good and great work so I hope double luck the best and that they could truly elevate their game and come with more unique dishes. read more

What a great find! I came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. We sat at the bar. The bartender, Stefani, was amazing! So professional, knowledgeable, friendly, attentive... you couldn't ask for a better wait person! The ambiance is great. They were playing popular songs from the 80's, but all sung in Cantonese! Stefani recommended their frozen drinks. They were delicious!!! We especially enjoyed the passion fruit and gin one. I also had nice Sauvignon blanc. We were given some yummy fried wonton chips to snack on while waited for our dinner. We ordered the crab Rangoon as an appetizer. It comes with 4 large Rangoon. They were delicious. The biggest Rangoon I've ever had. For dinner I ordered the Hennessy Orange Chicken, since I saw it so highly recommended in reviews. It did not disappoint! The chicken was cooked to perfection! Not too much breading, as a lot of places do to their fried chicken. And the flavors were wonderful. My niece ordered the spicy Szechuan beef noodles. It definitely has a kick to it. The beef was super tender! The sauce was really tasty. We really enjoyed everything! Afterwards we tried the rice pudding. I'm not usually a fan of rice pudding, but this was SO yummy! It had a crispy sesame seed and rice crisps on top. SO GOOD! The portions are pretty big, so we had lots of leftovers. Prices are also very reasonable. Even the restrooms are cool! I had been looking forward to trying double luck, but luck was not on my side tonight. The food was overly greasy, fried and not impressive in the least bit. The duck salad was basically a bunch of cilantro stem's with minuscule peices of meat. The crab ragoon was overhyped, the eggplant was overly fried and thickly breaded. Let's get into food: - wagyu salad was really great, actually my favorite appetizer that we ordered - walnut shrimp was also really good and glad we last minute ordered it - tempura eggplant was alright. I think I was expecting to like it a little more. I have been craving Chinese food and remember hearing about Double Luck. From what I heard, it originally started as a pop-up at the former Schnitzel House German restaurant on the 79th Street Causeway. Stopping by for dinner yesterday, I saw that it has been repainted from the white façade. That was the original restaurant to proper signage. Stepping inside, the space has the classic red lanterns, Chinese movie posters, and even the background music has Chinese language covers of old pop Classics. I was able to get a seat at the bar, where I ordered both their Hennessy orange chicken as well as the bacon and egg fried rice. The bartender wasn't kidding when he said that the orders were huge. Service was attentive, even though I came last minute and the food was brought out in a timely fashion. The bacon, egg, fried rice, served with a runny egg on top, was both flavorful and nicely presented. It can be enjoyed by itself; as it were, I have leftover for lunch & dinner. The orange chicken was nicely presented with a Hennessy flambée ("fire, fire, fire") and very tasty. It's prepared with sour orange oranges that give the chicken pieces a great taste will combined with the cognac. We went to Tam Tam recently and OMG we loved the experience, and we love any type of Asian food and we knew we had to try the Double Luck Chinese pop-up (from the same family of restaurants/owner as Tam Tam). We made a reservation via Resy a few days before the weekend and didn't have any issue getting our desired date and time. We parked behind the Double Luck restaurant, where they have a big open parking lot for the restaurant with free parking. We arrived at our reservation time and were greeted warmly by restaurant staff and were shown to our table. We were then greeted a few minutes later by our server and were provided our menu and she came by a few minutes later to answer any questions we had. We ordered a bottle of wine to start (they started around $60 per bottle) and they had a good variety. For food, we ordered the following: -Char Siu Ribs ($18) - OMG so amazing and flavorful! -Long Beans ($13) - very fresh and large portion -Crab Fried Rice ($24) - large portion and very fresh and flavorful! -Hennessy Orange Chicken ($25) - an ABSOLUTE MUST! Amazing presentation and one of the most unique Chinese dishes I've ever had! -Tea Smoked Duck Buns ($65) - large portion and the duck was cooked to perfection and something I could have imagined having at a Michelin starred restaurant! -Oolong Tea Panna Cotta ($15) - very light and fresh, and presentation was exquisite! Double Luck is a charming little spot with thoughtful decor and a cozy feel but be prepared for very tight seating. Tables are placed so closely together that the diners next to us were less than an arm's length away. While the space is undeniably cute, the lack of privacy made the atmosphere feel more bustling than intimate. As for the food, it was overall a solid experience. My partner ordered the duck and absolutely loved it. I don't eat meat, so I opted for the fried eggplant, which I really enjoyed (though it wasn't her favorite). I tried one of the lotus buns that came with the duck, and made my own vegetarian version and absolutely loved it. For appetizers, we ordered the cabbage dish, which didn't work for me at all, but my partner liked it. We also shared the vegetarian spicy Sichuan noodles. They were good, nicely spiced and flavorful, but not particularly memorable. Shoutout to our server, Daniel, who was excellent, friendly, attentive, and on top of everything throughout the meal. Double Luck has been open for 6 months now and is a popular spot In NBV. If you are trying to find it, just look for The New Schnitzel restaurant sign, which was the previous restaurant that was there. I heard that there was a problem with city permits. But DLC has hung a red Chinese Lantern in the front so hopefully people know it's the correct restaurant. The inside dining area has been redecorated with nice mood pleasing lighting. Just know that the small tables along the wall on the left as you enter are very close to each other. You will hear your neighbors conversations and they will hear yours. The piped in music is loud so it is a bit hard to hear your dinner partner. We did like the decor and the mood lighting though! Our server, Mina, was professional and helpful with recommendations. She is very knowledgeable about the menu, which we appreciated. We followed her suggestions and ordered the Hennessy Orange Chicken, Crab Fried Rice, Tempura Eggplant, and Crab Rangoon dishes. My daughter ordered the Sumo Sake drink. She got to keep the glass it came in. I chose the house water. Unfortunately, some of the dishes were disappointing. I don't know what happened in the kitchen but the Hennessy Orange Chicken didn't have any Henessey nor Orange flavoring added to it. It was bland and dry and we didn't finish it. The Crab Fried Rice tasted very fishy, like it wasn't fresh. We only had a couple of bites. It wasn't edible. We both looked at each other in surprise. We were really looking forward to this dinner! Saw this place on The Infatuation Miami and wanted to try it. Restaurant is in an old schnitzel restaurant with no signage that it's the Double Luck restaurant. Had I not yelped it and others indicated this, we'd have difficulty finding it. Sufficient parking on the side of the restaurant in the back, but you have to look for it. Inside is dark with cute red lanterns. I was worried at first about the food because none of the servers appeared to be Chinese. We had the duck breast salad, which was delicious and very flavorful, the crab fried rice was also very good, with a reasonable amount of crab and a sweetness that made it distinct. We also had the steamed fish, it was good, but the spices did not permeate throughout the fish, so it was a bit bland and may have been slightly undercooked. There were other dishes we'd like to try in the future--the duck from our neighbor's table smelled delicious, the Hennessy Orange Chicken (which is flamed at your table), and the mushrooms. Heard lots of good about this place and had to go see for myself - not disappointed! Booked a reservation for 4 on a Saturday and headed over to meet up my squad. Took a bit to get seated (wasn't clear if we had to have the whole party present or went by me saying I would wait since I got there early), but we did get a nicely lit table which I specifically asked for on my reservation. Camera's gotta eat! We had an idea of what we all wanted and for the most part everything was great. If you're coming here for "Chinese" that fits into your pre-conceived box, maybe wait until you're ready to be open minded. The dishes here have modern twist to "traditional" dishes and that's what makes places like this fun. Here's the chowdown: - Dragon Stone riesling (bottle) - Little Sumo Sake (4) - Crab Rangoon (2) - Crab Fried Rice - Double Cooked Pork Belly (not pictured) - Crispy Fried Eggplant - Dan Dan noodles - Tea Smoked Duck Crab rangoon comes with 4 per order, and it's actually quite filling, so don't overdo it with these. Great way to start off the dinner. The eggplant was surprisingly a table favorite, the sauce that comes with it made the dish. Crab fried rice has real crab and is also SPICY. Same with the Dan Dan (SPICY) but we all went for it and both these dishes disappeared quickly. I would say both these dishes are a must. We were on the fence about the Hennessy Orange Chicken, and we decided to skip it because everyone has been getting it, and also because our server encouraged us to try something we typically wouldn't go for, and we all appreciated the honesty. We went with the pork belly instead and it was a nice transition dish before the fried rice and the duck. Tea smoked duck was great with the bao buns and comes with 3 different sauces, best one was the Hoisin but there was a creamy sauce that also slapped when put together with everything in the bao. We skipped dessert as it didn't really call our attention here, and instead opted for an extra dish - in this case it was the pork belly. No cocktails here which I definitely would have preferred, however I liked the sake and this is a pop-up after all. You do get to take the little sumo glass home though! We had to order an extra set of baos for everyone to get two, so be mindful of this if you go for it. I think the best part of this restaurant is the portions for price, which the table agreed was great. We absolutely did not leave hungry for what we paid. BIG thanks to Mina and Steph for chopping it up with us, they both worked their asses off and made sure we had a good time. Great recommendations and again, we loved the honesty regarding the "why's" on the dishes. I do want to come back for the char siu ribs and a few other dishes. My "more Chinese food in Miami" prayers have finally been answered! Double Luck is a welcome addition to our local food scene. My husband and I went on the Friday the opened--we'd been waiting! We visited this restaurant when it was still the "new, old schnitzel haus," I appreciate the team's efforts to redesign the space. Though the decor might feel a bit tacky upon entering, concerns quickly fade when they bring out the complimentary chips and sauce. The experience starts with those complimentary chips and their take on duck sauce, which sets the perfect tone for Chinese cuisine (think of it as their equivalent to chips and guacamole at a Mexican restaurant). We began with the duck salad, which had surprisingly Vietnamese-inspired flavors--spicy, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Next came what turned out to be my favorite dish: their sophisticated take on crab rangoons, where the filling comes stuffed in an actual crab leg--outstanding! I love Tam Tam and had high hopes as I too had been hoping for more Chinese food in Miami. First and foremost, I would not consider Double Luck a Chinese restaurant. It's more Vietnamese with a very liberal spin on a couple of Chinese classics. Started with the duck salad, which is served cold. The duck and dressing were nice, but the entire bed of greens is cilantro with a couple slices of cucumbers. Unless you're a huge fan of cilantro, I'd skip this. Next, we had the potato dish with peppers and more cilantro, which was described by our lovely server as Julienned, garlic-y and starchy. This was also dropped as the "second course app" by itself. Our third starter (also dropped at the table solo) was the green beans. More cilantro! This dish was actually the one bright spot. Inventive, spicy creamy and delicious. For our mains we had the Dan Dan Noodles, Crab Fried Rice, and Hennessy Orange Chicken. If you're a fan of Orange Chicken this version is tasty and elevated. The noodles and rice were quite spicy, even if you can take a bit of heat, as we can. The heat level in the dishes made it hard to distinguish or enjoy one from the other unfortunately and with all the palate cleanser starters served first and by themselves it did the whole dinner no favors. With some refinement on the dishes and how they're served, the experience could certainly improve, but I wouldn't recommend this spot if you're actually looking for Chinese Food. read more

Double look Chinese is a hit or miss. I've been here twice, and let me just say the staff and atmosphere has not let me down once. They have been very attentive and have given me good recommendations. The restaurant atmosphere is very lively, the decor is beautiful. I have written three stars for a couple reasons. Number one, they let a dog dine in the restaurant, and IT WAS NOT A SERVICE DOG. My partner is severely allergic to dogs and literally started getting hives because they were in our vicinity. It's really hindered our dining experience. Honestly I just find it very gross when restaurants let pets into a place where people eat. It's not even like this is a big restaurant. Everything is kind of crammed in so my partner was doomed from the start. Another complaint is the drinks, I don't really like drinking wine and it's pretty much all they had. They recommended me a slushy type alcohol, It was OK but felt like I should've been drinking it by the beach, not in a fancy restaurant lol. I understand they don't have a certain license for alcohol and they're limited. So if you drink wine, you should be fine. The food was pretty good, I love the orange chicken and the presentation. It has good flavor and is one of my favorites here on the menu. The braised rib was also one of my favorites and very delicious. (Also my partners favorite.) I don't really have any complaint on foods. I thought everything was delicious. Not so much authentic, but it's Miami. I would give this place four stars if the dog incident didn't happen. I hope with this review they consider only letting service dogs enter the restaurant from now on. I really wanted to love this place, but for me, it was just ok. Reservations must be made via Resy to eat here, but if you're eating solo or a party of 2, you might be able to snag bar seating right when they open. The layout of the seating is the same as when it was The New Schnitzel House, which I am not a fan of. Unless you're a larger party seated in a booth, you're seated in cramped tables that feel like you're right on top of the table next to you, and you can barely hear the person seated across from you. When we arrived, we were immediately sat. Then it was a 10 minute wait before our server came. At least our server was friendly when she finally came. Some dishes that you have seen in other reviews or on IG are no longer on the menu, like the crab leg Rangoons. The dishes we had were fine. Coming from the team behind Tam Tam, I was hoping to be wowed. It's more cilantro stem medley than salad Mushroom app: rubbery and vinegary. I liked it but wouldn't go out of my way to have it again Ribs: delicious marinade and very tender. I recommend Mapo tofu: super silky with good mala heat. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did! Short rib: super fatty but marinade was delicious. Heavy, bigger portion of meat good on a colder day Hennessy orange chicken: big pile of nope. Massive chunks of chicken with barely any crisp despite them doing a whole flambé show.
