No frills hair salon. Run by two lovely ladies. Came in on a Saturday morning. The two ladies working already had clients. The owner (I'm assuming) told me to come back at 11:20, and so I did. I got a wash and cut for $40. Quoted a fair price but after seeing my hair was very long she said next time it would be a little higher. Not a problem. Wash was very nice. Used plenty of shampoo and got some good head scratches. Haircut was also great. The attention and concentration were fantastic. Overall, very pleased with my haircut. The owner of the salon is a master hair stylist that used to take care of Korean movie stars/ celebrity crowd - let me just say she knows what she is doing! Before I dive into my 1st experience with this place, can I just say... I looooove how my hair turned out in the end! Thank you Gina and Mina! Definitely what I asked for and it was delivered without any hiccups even if there was a lack of communication. I have to warn you though, this is solely my experience of getting a Magic Straight Perm and anything above that (e.g. hair coloring) I wouldn't know. Okay, let's dive in. I called Mina around 9:30 AM, asked the cost, and if she had a spot open @ 2 PM on the same day to do the MSP. Luckily she did and she quoted the cost to be 130/140 (I paid 140+tip). Just as a reference, my hair is 5 inches pass my shoulder and a bit more on the wavy side. NOTE: prices may vary depending on hair type and length I arrived 10 min earlier and saw that besides myself, there was only 1 customer in the store. I waited a few minutes and was immediately attended by the ladies. All I can say is I appreciate how they went right to work on my hair after reconfirming what I wanted. Time duration: ~3 hrs (might be longer if your hair is long so bring something along to entertain youself with while they do their magic) End result: My hair is so straight and soft (see photos)! I liked that I got a haircut (in my case, it was more of a trim as I didn't want to shorten the length) toward the end. It's been a while since I first got my hair cut at Mina's store. I got my hair color touched up, a hair cut, and a hair treatment for $80, which is a fair price. The lady is so nice she even followed me to my car to give me a free hair treatment for my dry hair :) Will come back next time if I want a new hair color or hair cut :) read more

Came in and made an appointment on the same day for a straight perm. Mine had grown out past my ears and the curliness + frizz was starting to show. My hair length is long, past my shoulder blades so she charged a little more. The process was 3.5 hours, and 150$. After, my hair felt a little fried but she was really nice about it, explaining that my ends were permed twice, so they are a little more dry that my virgin roots that they did the perm retouch on. So she put on a moisturizing essence in my hair before I left and after using my own hair lotion from Living Proof, the ends started to clam down and dry nicely. She's super nice, was always careful to make sure I was okay and gave me snacks and water, plus some cute conversation! I love this place and the owner and her hairdresser are both very sweet, kind women! Usually straight perms give me 0 volume and feels super flat and awkward until my roots grow out a tiny bit, but after getting it done here, my hair looks super natural and not too flat. After seeing some reviews on yelp for Magic Straight, I decided to take the plunge at Mina Hair Design in the Korean business area in Garden Grove. I've had Magic Straight perm done in the past overseas and I loved my results. A few years after that, I got a process done at another very popular Korean salon in Garden Grove for a "half-price" deal and it was a complete rip off. It did nothing to my hair and it was a complete waste of money, so I swore off straight perms for awhile. Mina Hair Design, however, is completely worth the money! I highly recommend this salon for hair straightening. I made an early appointment and I was the first customer in the salon. It took about 3 hours and 15 minutes for the entire process since I had both stylists working on my hair. The older lady (Mina) and the younger lady (Gina) both don't speak very much English, so if you want to explain something complicated, you might want to bring a friend who speaks Korean with you. Since I was only getting Magic Straight done, it was fine. Now for the unbelievable part, Mina only charged me $120. That is the cheapest I've ever heard of in the area and it was WELL worth the money, believe me. After washing my hair twice and letting it air dry, my hair is still super smooth, shiny, straight- a dream for a girl like me who naturally has unruly, thick, and coarse hair. TIPS: 1) Bring something to do - 3+ hours can get tedious! 2) Bring cash. 3) And don't wash your hair/tie it in a ponytail/use hair clips for at least 48 hours afterward! read more

I usually go to another salon for cuts, and this is my first time here. I got a magic straight perm. The normal price is around $120, but I think it depends on how much hair you have. "Miss Na" was very friendly and focused on me during the three and a half hours (yes, it takes this long for a magic straight perm). Once again, Mina and Gina did a fabulous job on the magical straight perm for my hair. Even after one year I visited them last time, their level of attention and service has not declined. I love the conditioning and shampoo that they use. They just smell so great. Also, the chemicals they use do not smell, and my hair does not smell like those perming solutions afterwards. The process took 4 hours, but I didn't feel long because it was so relaxing that I almost fell asleep like I was getting a hair spa, and I was confident in Mina's and Gina's skills that I didn't have to watch everything they did to my hair. I just needed to show them the picture of the hair style I wanted at the beginning, and that is it! It has been 4 days since I got the perm, but my hair has been so straight. So just a little update on my hair. So I ended up spending only half the price for my magic straight here. It turns out, my magic straight only lasted half as long. My usual hairdresser charged me $200 for my magic straight and it would last me 6 months. This place only charged me half that amount, but my magic straight only lasted for 3 months. read more

I'm pretty particular about where I get my hair done. But one thing for sure is that I don't give a damn how nicely decorated your salon is... what matters to me is the type of service I get and the quality of the hair cuts/perm/dyes/or whatever I'm doing. I have super flat Asian hair so I asked for a body volumizing perm which came out fabulous. I didn't have to wait at all (however I did make an appointment). I came here to get a perm for an upcoming Christmas party and I just love the outcome. The perm lasts and the staff is very nice. I advise bringing cash though because they don't accept card. I've been looking for another place to get the magic straight perm that's closer to home. I tried one based on the reviews from Yelp. I was disappointed with the result, plus I was out $180. Went back to Yelp and came across Esther C's review for Mina Hair Design. Couldn't believe the price mentioned... around $120. I called and made an appointment for that same week. The place is small but clean. Mina and another younger Korean lady worked on my hair. Their English was limited but I didn't mind since I was only there to straighten my hair. (It may be an issue for some if you want something more complex.) I found the lack of chit-chatting rather relaxing so I was able to enjoy my book. Since I had 2 people working on my hair, I was done in about 2 1/2 hours (yippee). They were quick but thorough. It's been about 2 weeks and many washes later and my hair still soft and practically flat iron straight. Just so you have an idea....I have thick, medium length (just past my shoulders) hair with a hint of a wave. Mina only charged me $110. Oh yeah...I've found my go-to "magic straight place".
