Gone here several times & I am done. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, they just obviously don't care. Especially during these times with the pandemic you would think they would want to better themselves to keep the orders flowing. I ordered a fettuccine Alfredo, that was $15 and some change, it was the size of a child's hand. It was even an extra 2 to 3 dollars to add chicken and I can't believe how small this portion is. With that being said there are more problems with this place than just their portion sizes and prices. I had made reservations one Father's Day for my dad and I to eat there and they had us wait over an hour with a reservation because they were just letting everyone in. Tell me what was the point of a reservation? I have had it! So - how about I came here almost every Sunday after church when I was a kid. It was just a place we came. Now I have moved back as an adult (35 years later), and I fully understand the magic of Minards. It is in the house of the original family since 1939. I always ordered the Veal Parm with a side of pasta - it is still on the Menu and it was every bit as good as it was in 197???-1980??. Not going to lie. I've only ever been here once. I've been raised on Italian food my whole life. My blood runs thick garlicky marinara sauce. But out of every single restaurant in the Clarksburg/Morgantown area I've ever been to, I've never had food as bad as this. The sauce has an almost burnt taste like it sat in a pan for a couple of days getting reheated to shit town and back. The rigatoni's were cooked okay but some of the ends were gummy. Like haribo gummy texture. And finally. The kicker. Their "meatballs" were absolutely atrocious. To call them meatballs is a big insult to Italian food. So soft and finely ground. Boiled meat with no flavor and old pungent sauce don't mix. Will never be back. Salad dressing was pretty good. Waitstaff was super friendly and helpful. Desert was good. 7/26/10 What a great experience!! This was my first evening visiting my sister in WV (whose family just moved here in late winter). She's never been to Minard's, but she had heard good things about the place. (I bookmarked it on Yelp months ago even before I had purchased my plane tix!) (I had called ahead to check on business hours and was surprised to find out that Minard's kitchen closed at 10p. No one greeted us at the door, nor at the "Please wait to be seated" sign, so I stuck my head into the dining room and was soon greeted by server who said we'd be seen to very soon.) This business of over 70 years is family-owned and operated and invites its guests to "come to our house for dinner." Now, we've all heard commercials that offer the same invitation, but how many really do live up to its promises? Not very many! However, Minard's truly is the real deal! From the moment you walk through the glass doors and lead your way through the wooden front door, Minard's and its staff welcome you into the fold. Cozy surroundings envelope you- from the couch, chairs, and knick-knack cabinets that greet you in the waiting room to the floral-bordered walls, clothed-tables and chairs in the family dining room. I could tell that tonight's experience would be a treat! Minard's menu is quite extensive, so be prepared to spend more than a few minutes to check out its contents. It was after much discussion that we finally decided we would order and share w/ everyone the following: Eggplant parm and spaghetti (w/ accompanying side of soup- minestrone, which sis remarked was the best she's tasted in a long time), Lasagna and spaghetti (side salad w/ house Italian dressing), Stuffed shells (salad w/ blue cheese), and a side order of Beef Cacciatore (supplemental $4 w/ entree order). The kids ordered a meat ravioli w/ meat sauce (w/ side salad w/ Italian going to the adults) and a fried shrimp dinner w/ fries (side salad w/ ranch). The table bread here was delicious! (And after sampling other breads from different venues, I must say that the town of Bridgeport, and its neighboring towns of Clarksburg and Morgantown, have a few great bakeries!) Other Yelp reviewers were correct in saying that the dressing(s) here are addictive! All were home-made; the creamier versions of ranch (oh my!) and chunky blue cheese were the best, I thought, as the lettuces stayed crisp all throughout, whereas the lovely Italian caused the leaves to wilt. (I wish to not let this review turn into a novella, so forgive me if I try to keep this short.) While my niece loved her shrimp dinner, she did end up peeling the bread coating off, stating that it "tasted funny." I wasn't surprised that she hardly touched the fries- they looked stale and soggy the moment they landed on the table. My nephew's meat ravioli were filled w/ cheese instead, so our server promised that a new batch of meat ravioli would soon be delivered. (It wasn't- we were almost all done w/ our meals before his plate arrived, and even then, the dough wasn't cooked, not even al dente.) The stuffed shells were filled w/ sausage and covered w/ a great marinara- I found them to be good, if not the sausage a little overdone. The spaghetti pasta's texture and flavor good, the lasagna OK, but I'd have to say the star of the evening was the eggplant parmigiana! The eggplant layers had to number at least three in depth, breaded just so, and w/ just enough cheese and marinara to make the serving meaty, yet not too greasy. Indeed, I've tried enough parm dishes to accept that the layers will slide over each other the moment teeth descend upon them, but every bite here was perfectly divine! What made this dish stand out, listen to this, were the slices of hard boiled eggs that also made up the layers! Truly, too-die-for! What kept this review from being five stars was the still-raw ravioli dough. It was too bad that my nephew would not eat the cheese version, for the pasta was perfectly cooked. Thankfully, the entree cost was not included in the bill. The beef cacciatore also wasn't a hit- Mom was the sole commentor on how good (or should I say, bad?) it was. I must add that this statement was accompanied w/ a not so subtle grimace. (Another minor point is that for a such a home-y feel of a venue, I was surprised, if not a little disappointed, to find that the women's restroom wasn't decorated to match the rest of the "house"- I felt that I was back in grade/high school w/ the steel-beamed stalls and stone-tile floors! Oh, well.) We discussed our hope in having another chance to dine here before heading home (which doesn't look too promising as I type this). Whether we do or not, Minard's is definitely on our list of must-visits everytime we stay in WV! read more

In town for business and, thus, decided to give a local place a try. I was placed in an entry path of the restaurant. No air flow and marginal air conditioning. The restaurant's decor is something out of the cutting room floor of Kitchen Nightmares, with a dreadful carpet and the type of chairs you would see in a hospital cafeteria. The restaurant had an older crowd, with no real families and at least three oxygen tanks. I was placed next to a china cabinet that did not appear to have been dusted in ages. Never a good sign. Basic bread and butter was brought to the table. Nothing really Italian about it. Then, my salad came out, and appeared to be basic iceberg from a bag. I opted for basic spaghetti and meatballs, and the sauce and noodles were, again, something from a hospital cafeteria. For many, many, many years, this was the ONLY place I would consider for my birthday dinner. I came here for graduation dinner and any other event I could possibly celebrate. It is patronized mainly by the aging population of Clarksburg, who can still get out and have a long leisurely lunch. I can still walk in there today and know at least one person, and I frequently run into my great-godparents. You must try their famous spaghetti and their homemade salad dressing. OK, if you're looking for a revelation, you're not gonna find one at Minards, except that the cod in the fried seafood platter IS as good as it gets, and the scallops and shrimp in it are also very tasty. That said, the small rings of calamari don't fair as well in that dish or as an appetizer. We got there late and closed the place as the last table, but they didn't rush us, and owner/chef/former resident of the house Mr. Minard came out and talked with. Nice people. Nice! read more

I was in town on a business trip craving eggplant parmigiana. I chose the WRONG place. I should have gone with my gut when I walked in the door and turned back around. My first impression was that the restaurant was hot and didn't smell very fresh...rather stale. I was greeted, gave my name and was told to sit on what looked to be my great grandmother's couch while I waited for my table. This restaurant had good reviews so I decided I could look past the dated decor for some good Italian food. I must say I did enjoy listening to the conversation from the table beside me. The four people were advanced in age but spoke about current events and topics. I felt like I was at the table taking part in their conversation. The eggplant parmigiana tasted just like a chile relleno from a Mexican restaurant. It was all batter, very little eggplant. It left my stomach feeling gross and greasy all evening. The spaghetti was ok. Nothing special. The waitress was sweet and quick. Everyone was super nice and accommodating. Unfortunately, it did not make up for the inadequate food and ambiance. If you are craving Italian on a Sunday night in town, I suggest you go for the Irish Pub instead and get your Italian fix another day at another place. read more

A generational staple in this area. The restaurant has lots of character with multiple rooms each decorated tastefully in an old school manner. We ate there for dinner on father's day and the staff appeared like they were very busy. Spaghetti was the primary staple dish. The staff though busy we're all very friendly. Prices were very reasonable with a highly competitive pricing for the children's menu with pricing based on a child's age. The spaghetti tasted good, the sauce was okay not too acidic and not too sweet but the spaghetti was drowning in the sauce. The meatballs though good were very bland. The spaghetti had dry spots on it as though it we're sitting out before having the sauce poured on it. I wonder if they precook the spaghetti and then didn't soak it enough in hot water before serving. The salad was okay but all iceburg and only sliced tomatoes. The salad appeared fresh. read more

I am shocked to see the high marks this place has received from others. I was very disappointed on my last visit. Yuck. I was there during a special they had which was all you can eat with a choice of three dishes. One was Spaghetti with either meatballs or sausage, another choice was gnocchi and I don't recall what the third choice was. This being a very strong Italian town you have a certain level of expectation for these places. None of the three dishes was even in the ballpark of what I expect. Very, Very bad. I can't even express how bad the food tasted. The highlight in my memory was the meatballs; they resembled the meat from the center of a Chef Boyardee ravioli, that is not a compliment. The service was very poor. We were placed in a room off to the side of where the crowd was and we were alone in the room, the server very seldomly even checked on us. It was like we were eating in an abandoned wing of the joint. I have nothing good to say, the salad even tasted like it was pre made for days sitting in the fridge with the dressing on it. If I could give this place a negative star I would! I placed an online order for carry out and no sooner had I placed it, it was canceled by Minard's. We were within the neighborhood so instead of calling we went to the restaurant. We pulled in to a not even half full parking lot and my husband went in to inquire what the issue was. The manager said they were just too busy and were cancelling orders. Seriously, if you think you are so busy that you need to cancel my order then you at least owe me the courtesy of a phone call. My family is from Clarksburg and has raved about Minards for, well pretty much forever. We went for a family event on a Saturday afternoon. There were 17 people in our group seated at 2 tables. The service was excellent. A single waitress took our orders and kitchen staff assisted with serving. All 17 meals were delivered within 30 mins of ordering and at the same time. No easy trick. The server was attentive and quick with any requests. Now for the food - I asked one of my cousins who visits Minard's regularly for a recommendation. He suggested the Bit-O-Italy, a three part dish that includes lasagna, beef cacciatore and spaghetti with sauce.The spaghetti and lasagna were very good. The beef cacciatore however was exceptional. If only if was offered as it's own entree! I learned that several other cousins and siblings ordered the same thing when I heard them raving about it the next day. Minard's isn't fancy but if you enjoy good food in a family friendly atmosphere it's worth a visit. I believe they offer take-out service as well. read more

We stopped here on our travels. My boyfriend grew up in Clarksburg, and used to go to Minard's with his family when he was a child. It lived up to every expectation I had of a family owned Italian restaurant in Clarksburg. I felt as if I timed traveled back walking into what appeared to be a restaurant with no interior updates - which most certainly isn't a complaint, I love these little jewels. Everything from the bread to the salad dressing to the spaghetti and dessert was great. I had spaghetti and meatballs per my boyfriend's recommendation, and the simplicity of something like spaghetti and meatballs was exactly what I needed. The meatballs have so much flavor, are so moist, and are out of this world. The tiramisu was a great end to the meal. Service was attentive and great. I do not remember the name of our server, but he had dark hair and did a great job. We visited this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend's family member. We read some of the online reviews and decided to take a chance (there were some great reviews and a few not to great). I'm glad we did! We were greeted immediately and seated just as quickly. We ordered our drinks and meal and got our salads fairly quickly. They weren't anything fancy, just lettuce and chopped tomatoes w/ dressing. The bread was interesting (sliced bread, maybe sourdough). Our meals came out just as we finished our salads. The portions were fair, not huge like you see at bigger chains, but closer to actual portion sizes. The waitress visited our table often and our glasses were never empty. I went to Minards a lot growing up and the food and service was also great. I recently returned and was extremely disappointed. The service and food were both terrible. The hoogies had barely any steak on them and were mostly entire bread. The fries were ice cold as they just came out of the freezer. The lasagna was the size of a side you would get at a normal Italian place. The only good part was their house salad. It's sad to see how downhill this place has gone. I have not been back here in several years. This use to be a really good place to eat. I had the manicotti and when they brought it to me I had to do a double take. Each piece of manicotti was about 5" long and about as round as a hotdog and I got a whopping 2 pieces. Yes I said 2, Now why did I do a double take. The price......13.75....I was like OMG. We actually even stopped the waitress to confirm, yes she said that's what you ordered. Perfect bite size was to cut it into thirds which is a little over 2.30 a bite. If you want real traditional "Italian American" old school dishes then you really can't beat Minards. I've been going to this place since I was a child and on my last visit back to WV I couldn't wait to eat there again. I took a guest with me and I was slightly nervous wondering what they would think of this "No Frills" style Italian food. My guest absolutely loved it and even wanted to go back for the Spring Fling all you can eat specials. Our dinners consisted of a Bit Of Italy Platter and the Open Faced Meatball Parmesan Sandwich Platter. The Bit of Italy was great, I love their meatballs and lasagna but the beef cacciatore was really fantastic and is one of those traditional items you just can't find out at other Italian restaurants. The Meatball Parm sandwich was so gigantic that we took about 5 pounds of leftovers home with us (I say this in a good way) and it just tasted to die for. We both skipped the salad and instead had a Minestrone and Italian Wedding soup, both soups are homemade and you can really taste it in the flavor. Another big plus for us is that Minards uses only all beef in it's Meatballs and Meatsauce where most other Italian restaurants use a mix of beef and pork, for people like us who don't indulge in pork products this is a special piece of heaven. Our server was also very friendly and treated us like we were family members. We even had real Spumoni for dessert and it was soooo good! My disclaimer with Minards is that if you want some more "New School Italian" then go to Oliverio's or Muriel's but if you want real classic Italian American fare where you feel like family then it's Minards all the way! I just cannot understand why this place gets the high reviews it's getting. Honestly, I usually don't feel this strongly when disliking a restaurant. My boyfriend and his friend ordered the baked lasagna and that's all it was, a small piece of falling over, soggy piece of lasagna. With that being said, that is not a meal. They were still hungry when leaving!! My broiled seafood pasta was just smothered in butter. The other women we were with had a huge piece of steak that wasn't cooked as she had asked. This place is the Mexican restaurant of Italian restaurants. Food was blah, service was worse. Seriously, my veggie lasagna reminded me of Fizoli's. Salad wasn't fresh, seemed store-bought. Bread wasn't special. And the waitress only came back because I had my credit card sitting on the table. But the place seems very popular among the locals. Okay this review is biased. This is where I grew up thinking spaghetti and meatballs come from. The salad is the same vinegar and oil dressing I remember with some cube tomatoes tossed over lettuce. The meatballs are divine and the sauce screams garlic. The restaurant is an old family house that in my mind has been there forever.
