Excellent, excellent, excellent! Our night began with a mofongo as an appetizer- moist and tasty. Our entrées followed- a mix of chuletas, & pollo al horno. We are a family from South Brooklyn so we know what's some good Spanish food and let me tell you this is some damn good Spanish food. Our server, Gina, was humble and attentive. (Also went along with our humor about "how terrible the food was" while our plates sat empty atop the table). LOL! The only thing I will mention is that they said our order would be ready in 25 minutes but we probably wait at least an additional 25 minutes before we got our food. I've tried many times to give this place a chance, and get upset and embarrassed for them every time. First time ordering Delivery they told me I had to use DoorDash. NEVER AGAIN will I ever use that site to order food from them! Not only was the restaurant not able to resolve the missing things on their site but also had no answer about the missing driver !!! I've ordered takeout from Mina's quite a few times. The food compared to great Latin Bronx and Harlem based restaurants I've eaten at, is mediocre. My biggest complaint is the dryness. Hubby loves pernil but every time we order it from here it seems to have been overcooked and parched. Same with the stewed chicken. It's always hit or miss. Tres leches here is pretty decent though. The takeout counter usually stays busy and packed. They need a better layout. IMO, Mina's is OK and an overall relief from the dozens of Chinese and Italian restaurants flooding this area. read more

One Saturday night, we came in for a small to go order. I asked what was the size for a side of rice and one of the ladies showed me different containers. I pointed at the tinfoil like one and told her I wanted that size of arroz con gandules. We also ordered some appetizers including alcapurrias, then sat in the chairs across the counter. Approximately 35 minutes later, we inquired about our order. We were given an attitude and told we were only waiting on the alcapurrias because they are made fresh to order. Ummmm, ok. Another 25 min go by and we're wondering if we should've just taken a trip to the cuchifrito on 116th. I'm standing at the counter now. Yes I'm annoyed, considering tables that came in and sat long before us are wrapping up their meals. The lady at the counter sees me and immediately starts whispering something to the other one and they both laugh. There were young children nearby so I didn't make a scene. Minutes later, our order was ready and we got the hell out of there. No apologies for the wait or anything. Something told me to check the bag before pulling out of the lot. The rice was missing. We went back in and they said we didn't order rice. I never was a given a receipt to prove otherwise. My nephew really wanted it, so I humbled my angered self to buy it (again). I would rather (and have after this experience) travel for quality food and service. The rice was ok. The canoa's plantain was too firm, not even ripe enough for sweetness. The food here is delicious. They do a lot of takeout business, and they're often busy inside as well. Service has improved greatly over the years. When you get takeout, make sure to check the bag before you leave. You often have to wait when you're picking up takeout, but it's worth it because the food is fresh and hot. We live in NJ but whenever we are in Monroe we stop for Minas delicious food! Everything we've ever eaten has been amazing. This last time we picked up our food and Took it home to NJ. When we got home there were items missing from our order. We called them up and immediately were met with sincere apologies. Excellent lunch specials , very welcoming and accommodating staff. The owner went out of his was to invite us in during a very large funeral for the NYPD. Usually I'm extremely satisfied with this place but today left a sour tast in my mouth (No pun). I just left here after ordering my meal. I walked in and placed an order for two of the baked chicken lunch specials. I knew that they came as quarters so I asked for both to have dark meat (leg and thigh) bec6my daughter and I prefer it far more than the white meat. The young woman said "I will try" w.e. that meant. If you can't just say you can't and I'd be okay with it. Don't tell me you'll try and then completely disregard what I asked. Long story short one was given dark meat and the other white meat. So as you can tell I'm very disappointed. I have not visited the restaurant in a while due to another negative interaction regarding service provision. However, I thought today I would give them another chance. Well my order was incorrect when I brought it to the servers attention, she rudely responded "well I only charged you for one plate" as if that made the fact that my order was incorrect better. She indicated that if I wanted another order I would have to wait 10-15 minutes. I waited a total of 45 mins for this order. I was not offered an apology or any other form of consolation. When we discovered that our favorite Indian restaurant had closed, we went in search of something interesting and nearby and ended up at Mina's. The decor is eclectic and interesting and the staff very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately Mina's is small, cold, noisy and the food (at least what I ordered)...Not fabulous. I had the rotisserie chicken for $8.99 and got a plate with yellow rice & red beans (which was fine) and a little skinny, cold, dry chicken leg. I was shocked that for $9 all they provided was an inedible child's serving. Of course I sent it back and the waitress was appropriately apologetic and quickly brought me back another more flavorful (little) chicken leg. That said, my wife had chicken and vegetables and was happy with her dinner. On the upside, Mina's is a BYOB AND if your tummy isn't full when you leave (due to the small portions) you can do what I did and duck into Wah Mei chinese restaurant (which is next door) and get a serving of their delicious chinese food to fill the void. Went to drop my son off for a his Outdoor Club hike at nearby Harriman State Park. The hike was going to take a while, decided on some lunch & googled Spanish food. Mina's restaurant came up and decided to give it a shot. I Walked in and loved the sound of salsa music playing, I inhaled the delicious aroma of authentic Spanish spices. (Felt like I was in PR) I was greeted by a very nice lady and asked for the menu, OMG I wanted it all. I ordered yellow Spanish with rice & beans with pernil and Alcapurria. The pork will keep being me back, though. That pig was the most delicious thing I ever ate. Slow roasted, fall apart, wonderfully fatty, sweet dark meat, beyond tender pork. I actually live in NYC but have a weekend home in the Monroe area. In NYC it's easy to find a Spanish food restaurant, not so easy up that way. Minas is FAR better than any restaurant in NYC. The food is authentic and loaded with flavor. They are the real deal. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. Eating from Minas takes you back to Abuelitas kitchen and style of cooking. I cannot eat from another Spanish restaurant in NYC again. I will wait until I am in Monroe just to eat from Minas. It's impossible for me to say enough good things about them. I've been here a few times and I have to agree with the other reviews. The food is mediocre at best. The take-out price is a nice portion of food; typically a weak serving of whatever meat is offered. Chicken on many occasions has been dry. Why have I returned, well the price isn't bad, its convenient and there aren't many Spanish restaurants around. Don't go looking for a friendly atmosphere either; unless you actually know the owner. The beans I had at take-out tasted just on the verge of going bad. It's understood that all restaurants will make big batches of items that can be heated readily but you need to be on point with that. With that being said...yes I shall not return unless the reviews get better. =( read more

I went with my friend one day and got pork cubes with mojito sauce very tasty. I went again my friends, he got coconut shrimp that was good another friend had beef with peppers and I had pulled pork with yellow rice and red beans. I liked all the food it was enough food to make you satisfied you dont go away hungry. I tried the coconut flan very good they wouldn't give the recipe out.Their lunch special is a great price and yummy food. The guava cheese cake was to dense so try the flan. I did have to go up to get her attention to get more sauce and more water. One of which was served after dessert (in their defense they didn't charge us for that or the dessert). All in all our rice was cold. Although the Mina's in Monroe & the most recent one in New Windsor have great latin food at very affordable prices, last night I had the pleasure of enjoying their first Salsa Night at the New Windsor location. There was a great D.J. w/the perfect combination of salsa & merengue music with even a little recent hip-hop thrown it. The restaurant had great ambience, and after working up an appetite dancing, you can try some of the delicacies on their modified late-night menu: maduros rellenados con carne, empanadas, & masitas de puerco con chicharron de pollo on their sampler platter.
