Excellent, excellent, excellent! Our night began with a mofongo as an appetizer- moist and tasty. Our entrées followed- a mix of chuletas, & pollo al horno. We are a family from South Brooklyn so we know what's some good Spanish food and let me tell you this is some damn good Spanish food. Our server, Gina, was humble and attentive. (Also went along with our humor about "how terrible the food was" while our plates sat empty atop the table). LOL! Went for lunch today, I ordered the steak and onions. Stay away from this meal. The steak had so much oil on it, that the oil sat at the bottom of the plate. On a good note, the rice and beans were good, the plantains were good. The steak left a lot to be desired. We came here with a group of friends. I'll admit I was a bit nervous about bringing them all there without trying it first, because I read some mixed reviews on yelp. This is a Spanish restaurant it's not limited to one type of Spanish food they have big variety. They have an all day lunch special which was a pretty decent size. I got pernil with rice it was nice bigger size tasted delicious. My husband got mofongo with shrimp, presentation was amazing and it tasted great. My husband also got a fresh squeezed juice. One of our friends wanted to taste it first and they brought him a sample to try before he ordered it. The service was excellent, the staff was friendly. It made me feel like I was back in Puerto Rico, an I definitely would love to come back and try something else. read more

Came to this place not planning to at all. It was nearby a small shopping mall so we stopped in for a late lunch. The server was nice however our order was not taken first, the couple that came in AFTER us was served first. We ordered 2 Medio pollo al horno and a side of empanadas and manduros. After the 30 min wait the waiter apologizes and says they only have 1 chicken left! Why did they wait so long to tell me that & 1 chicken left is something that is noticeable! Ok Fine, the waiter was polite and apologized .. so we ended up wanting the last chicken left and ordered fried chicken. Still waiting on the food. The couple that came in AFTER us was finishing up their meal at this point and ready to pay. Then the waiter comes back 15 minutes later to tell us they just gave their last chicken to another customer!! At this point I was already annoyed and I should have just walked out. Long story short we ordered 2 fried chicken platters we didn't want and didn't finish the food. To say the least the meal was not worth the hassle. Growing up Latin has its perks, the food is exquisite if made correctly and one can truly appreciate it. I have been to Mina's once as a sit down and the meal was good but this evening I wanted take out and ordered a Mofongo with pork and a side of cod fish fritters. The fritters were basically refried, extremely crunchy and oily. The Mofongo had no pork so was basically a plantain with garlic. Tasty yes, but what happened to the meat. I now know you are better off eating at restaurant if you can make it there before 7pm as it is obvious they lose their vigor to please their customers when you order take out or arrive there when its approaching closing time. I've ordered here a few times, usually delivery. Food is pretty good but unfortunately as of recently I couldn't believe the response I received on the phone . I was told they're aren't delivering anywhere more than 5 miles . 1. This is not the city where most people live walking distance/close by. Most people I know up here calls in for delivery orders I think drawing the line at 5 miles is a bit much. 2. I live 4 miles away , so just say you don't have a driver or aren't delivering at the moment , Than to make it seem like I live too far especially since I have ordered from here in the past ( not too long ago might I add!) . 3. They were willing to deliver if my order was close to $70! For a family of two? I need to order that much? Ridiculous! Lost a customer for sure. read more

The restaurant is located in a strip mall. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side but it's a clean and friendly atmosphere. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with the delicious smell of authentic Spanish food. The cost of the food is inexpensive and you get a lot of food! My wife and I used to enjoy Mina's...for the food. Service is, to be nice, below average. We went on Tuesday night at 7:45, and the FIRST thing the hostess said was "We close at 8." Not "Hi, how are you? Welcome to Mina's." When we asked if it was ok if we ate, she said, "Yeah, we just close the kitchen right at 8" We know you close at 8 - it says it on your door, on your website, hell, even on Yelp. That means you close your DOORS at 8, not all of a sudden stop serving any food. My wife has worked in more than one restaurant and, as a general rule of thumb, if you're turning away people 15 minutes before closing time, you have the wrong "Front of the house" people working. We felt so unwelcome that we left and went to get something else to eat. We probably won't be back. read more

This is just as good as getting Spanish food from someone's grandma in Puerto Rico! Many Spanish places don't know how to cook Spanish food right - but this restaurant is incredible. My husband and I went to Mina's for the first time last night. The decor is a little strange--the centerpieces are baggies filled with water, and there are baggies of water hanging from the ceiling. But I certainly won't judge a place by the decor when the food is this amazing! The waitress was wonderful--she was friendly and patiently explained the dishes to me when I had questions. I had mofongo (mashed green plantains) with chicken. I had no idea what to expect, but I am so glad I tried it. It was absolutely delicious. My husband had Mina's steak and sauce (I think it was called). It had a delicious flavor and there was a lot of steak there. We will definitely be returning to Mina's. I had high hopes for Mina's after having a pretty decent pernil a few weeks ago. Empanadas were decent. Steak was tasteless. Shrimp with garlic and butter sauce tasted like shrimp in water. Rice was bland. Don't get me started on the really awful tacos!! Barely any meat in them, and zero flavor! I spent close to $90 plus a $10 dollar tip for to go food. Terrible food! So I've frequented all the 3 of the locations ( Middletown now closed) and this is far and away the worst of the 3. The new Windsor location is far superior in both quality and service. I've come to this location roughly 12 times over the past 18 months and every time without fail I've regretted it. The staff is always laying about, listening to music and telling jokes (the incessant cackling is rather offputting when entering an empty restaurant), and it's frequently devoid of customers. The product quality is significantly lower than the other location, not from different recipes, but instead from freshness of product (as is usually common for lower sales, which I assume they have). As a long time veteran of food service (14 years as an executive chef) I would certainly credit this to poor management style, I'm guessing that due to slipping sales the management left there has allowed the inmates to run the asylum. A classic example of this is walking in at 7pm on a Friday evening to see 0 customers inside, but a cook, 3... yes 3 servers very loudly listening to reggaeton and telling jokes to pass the boredom. A properly run place would have 2 servers max, and at least 1 of them would be cleaning the dead restaurant, yet I see a dirty floor, salt and pepper shakers that needed to be cleaned and filled, windows that were streaky, corners of wall joints with debris, and I can only imagine what the kitchen is hiding. Please just put this place out of its misery so it doesn't dissuade people from thinking that the new Windsor location is run this way. read more

Down hill steadily. 2 years ago owner was on site and food delicious . This afternoon was the last straw. There by 330pm. serving staff stuffing face by serving area, another biting nails. No gloves used in food prep. Oil on sauted item tasted of rancid oil UGH. Some pieces of the starch were undercooked most were mushy (what's the deal? =good stuff being held back and lousy old food product served paretrially uncooked hard food; is this so that Mina's can attempt to make a top profit , though of course , ultimately losing customers?? Really horrible experience for the 3rd or 4th time in the past few months. Please not the manager has not been present at these intervals. Help at a prior visit seemed much more interested in hitting on their smart phones. Over all appearance of the place is sloppy and unkempt. Seems as though the favorable reviews were written by ghost writers. Really really horrid setup and needs the board of health to stop by. BAD. read more

This is the 3rd time I've been to this restaurant. The food has been good each time which is why we decided to go for lunch today. They offered my son a box of crayons for him to color while we wait. As he began coloring a roach crawled outside of the box. I was already grossed out but decided to just order. Depending the time of day you can come to experience the " rude shift " of employees working there. Other than that theres one very nice girl behind the counter i always get take from. The food is good not 116st on the east side on nyc good but do able for orange county. Theres only one helping size to choose from when taking out as ive come accustomed to a large or medium size serving when at other places, a lil bit pricey and there a tad stingy on the rice which happens to be one of my favorite dishes. The empanadas are bland and small. The pernil is dry and lacks adobo and im not a fan of how they serve the food meaning they are careful not to put to many big pieces of the pork on there with excessive scooping and rescooping probably will continue to go back but if other options are available choose wisely read more

We ordered Rabo (oxtails), Chuletas (pork chops), Arroz con gandules which is a combination of rice and pigeon peas, black beans, tostones (fried plantains), coffee, and flan. I have had Rabo in Puerto Rico and The Dominican Republic and the Rabo at Mina's was very generous and very tasty. It definitely could have been cooked longer but still very good. Menu said two thick pork chops but they were thin, taste was still very good. Arroz gandules was good, maybe it needed more sofrito but they were generous with the portions overall. Service was excellent, price reasonable and I will definitely be back. (I don't always go back). Definitely worth a try if you are in search of good Spanish food up by us. read more

The restaurant was filled with flies that made eating awful - if you dare to go, bring a swatter. I love spanish food and I have been here a few times. The food is average to good, but in this area, it's what you are goingto get. We sit down and it took a while for the server to come over. When she did, we started ordering. She stopped us to say that they don't have any SWEET plantains and that they haven't ripeded enough. Can you believe that? We didn't see her much once we got our food. Service in this tiny place was AWFUL. She brought my husband a steak and left. But she never brought a steak knife and she didn't come back with one either. No filling up with water - no bread.
