I've been looking for some time to treat leg, hip and lower-back pain related to running (I think). When this week it finally became too painful to put off doing anything, I decided to pore through yelp for an affordable and effective massage therapist who might be able to help and who had availability soon. I was happy to find Laura. When I contacted Laura to make an appointment, I'd erroneously read that she had an available time slot yesterday and called to make an appointment. Even after I'd realized my error, Laura offered to fit me in to her afternoon schedule. Laura warmly welcomed me to her studio and took considerable time before the actual massage to learn about my current condition, particular areas of concern, and to allow me to ask questions. It was clear from her questions that she is well-informed about the kind of conditions she treats and what might cause them. Her attentiveness did not wane during the actual massage. While I was able to largely zone out during the massage, I could perceive Laura's attentiveness to trouble spots. I appreciated her methodical approach and her ability to read my body closely. She used a significant, but welcome, amount of pressure, yet not without checking to be sure it wasn't too much. It's clear that Laura cares about her clients' well-being beyond the massage table. Her studio was pleasant, quiet despite the busy street outside, easy to find and warm. Meanwhile, her rates were more than reasonable for the level of professionalism and care she took with the massage. I was also pleased that after the massage, Laura took additional time to show me some stretches I could do at home to alleviate the pain I've been experiencing. I welcomed her willingness to suggest ways to prevent or correct problems in the first place. Best of all, I went home with the pain I'd been experiencing greatly diminished. Since my appointment yesterday, I've been able to walk around with much greater ease and sit down to work without the same discomfort I've been experiencing for months. I'd happily recommend Laura to anyone in Portland looking for a massage, whether to treat a specific condition or for general well-being.

I've been seeing Meagen for years on and off for lower back/sacral pain. At the beginning of each visit she looks at my posture, and we discuss my issues at hand. She has taught me so much about how the source of most of my pains doesn't exist without a myriad of other possibilities stemming from other places within my body. Most recently, I had probably my worst bout of lower back pain after moving homes. I was having a tremendous amount of pain when I would go from standing to sitting and vice versa. I had spasms that keeled me over in pain. Laughing even hurt. Getting in the car just to get to Meagen was an incredibly painful experience. Once I was there, I felt immediately cared for in a way that no doctor could ever make you feel. She understood my pain and showed me the anatomy to help understand all the moving parts to it before she got started. This isn't a typical massage - it's very purposeful, mindful, and body focused work that only years of experience can reveal. You will participate in the massage a little bit too - by breathing into specific areas or slight movements that help her better adjust /aid her in your favor. Afterwards, Meagen always has a treatment plan for you. In the past this has included simple exercises/movements (with and without props), mindfulness and awareness during certain activities, follow-ups with her, or other alternative care solutions. Fast forward to 48 hours later, and I woke up feeling better than I had in weeks. I could stand to sit and sit to stand like everybody else again! I feel like my range of motion and strength were encouraged more than ever. Meagen's bodywork cannot be compared to any other massage or treatment I've been given. She's thorough, attentive, and thoughtful throughout the whole experience. Sara's knowledge and skill surpass anyone I've come across, and I'm so sad that I no longer live in the area. Otherwise, I wouldn't hesitate to do another ten series session. Her intuition and integrative techniques (massage, rolfing, cupping, and even graston) were all utilized to restore a lot of lost mobility from overuse and injuries. She's caring, generous with her time, and educates her clients so they can maintain/be successful with their mobility on their own. I'm a fan! Now only if I could find someone locally, but if not... Her knowledge of the body and musculoskeletal systems and what to do to help restore function and decrease pain far surpasses that of most physical therapists deep tissue massage practitioners. Her approach to bodywork and Rolfing is functional, practical, and most of all, she wants you to understand why you are having pain and what to do about it. Most massage therapists and physical therapists don't know how to relate that information, so even after years of massage or bodywork you will still be mystified as to the source of your pain. It was my first time doing a ashiatsu massage (which she combines with deep tissue), and Sonja made me feel very comfortable and explained how she did it. She really helped with my range of motion and with pain I had been feeling from sitting at a desk for long hours. In 2020, the pandemic hit and I didn't see Jenny for 2 years. Fast forward to 2022 and I am back to being a regular client. Previously, my insurance covered massage, but I have different insurance now and it's not covered. That's fine. I will gladly pay out of pocket to go to Jenny. With regard to the actual massage, Jenny's touch is firm, but not hard, which I prefer, as tensing because of too hard pressure works against relaxation. Jenny really knows her anatomy and can focus in on specific muscles that may need attention. And Jenny's bedside manner is calm, peaceful, and attentive.
