Went in today for a massage with Terril. Upon walking in, I was warmly greeted by the front desk staff. They were friendly but not in that fake way that you see in a lot of the surface industry. I was offered a choice between tea and water and was given my paperwork to fill out. My facial with Terril was very relaxing. We went into the treatment room and discuss what my concerns were with my skin and what I was hoping to get out of my appointment. Terril was very attentive, asking questions along the way. One thing I really liked was that the table was heated because I've been having some issues with my back that make it uncomfortable to lay down so having that heated surface under my back made my appointment even more relaxing. My skin felt amazing when she was done, even though she had to do a few extractions. I was so pleased that I went ahead and scheduled an appointment for a few months out so that my skin will be able to recover from the upcoming summer months. Zama massage is the place to be for that well deserved you time treatment. I treated myself to a massage from here after a long time of no self care and it was well worth it. Everything from the booking experience to checking out was spectacular! We were visiting from Florida and love to get a couples massage as our vacation tradition. They had a September special for the couples massages which we took advantage of. It included a Swedish or deep tissue massage for 60 min and a mimosa and chocolate truffle after the service. Fair warning- give yourself time for parking! We did arrive a little late but everyone was super sweet and welcoming. Upon check in and filling out the intake, Garth & Alex greeted us to take us into our room. The salt room we were placed in was GORGEOUS. I was seriously in awe. Alex pulled me aside for my intake. He asked what areas to focus on and avoid. He made me feel super comfortable and well taken care of. Once the service started, I was on cloud 9. Alex's technique, pressure, flow was just absolute perfection. I was practically speechless post massage. For context: I got the CBD body massage and foot massage package. I've never partaken in CBD. That was easily the best spa day I've ever had. Julia gave me the body massage, and was respectful of my silence until I initiated conversation. Not only did she make sure the pressure was what I wanted in the places I needed, but she also gave great advice on how to take care of my aches and pains outside of their services. I didn't feel like I was being upsold; instead, my masseuse was professional and clearly cares about clients. I got my foot massage from Jules, whose bubbly personality made me feel like she was excited to be a part of my self-care day. She explained what she was doing and how it affected my body, which I personally find fascinating. I wasn't expecting the chocolate and drink, but they were delightful and delicious. I wasn't expecting to like a chocolate that caters to so many dietary restrictions all at the same time, and the mimosa I had was the perfect ratio of juice to alcohol, especially since I didn't even mention that I'm fairly lightweight. I am absolutely keeping this place in mind to take my boyfriend for a couple's massage, especially since he was the one who pushed my stingy, aching self to take a self-care day. After I was done with the form I was warmly greeted by Lindsey who then lead me to my room. She was very friendly and very thorough through out the whole service! I wanted to schedule massages for me and my sister while we were back in Portland on vacation. We went to another spa previously, but I wasn't able to get appointments at the same time that worked with our schedule. Alternatively, I found Zama Massage from a google search of spas around the area. I called the spa, and one of the staff members helped me book our appointments over the phone. We both wanted a 60-minute massage, but my sister wanted a hot stone add-on. I saw that Zama Massage was having a couples massage special that already included hot stones. By choosing to do the couples massage, we shaved off $20 each person, and she got the hot stones that we wanted. On top of that, I received a Yelp offer after checking into Zama Massage for a free massage enhancement (i.e. CBD lotion, cupping, gua sha, etc.). We took advantage of that as well. My sister and I had fantastic massages at Zama Massage. Jenn and Lisa were our massage therapists, but specifically Jenn was assigned to me. She applied the right amount of firm pressure in target areas I indicated before our session. The massage was so relaxing that I was certain I fell asleep during the majority of it. I received the gua sha enhancement, which was perfect as a facial massage to compliment the scalp massage that Jenn provided. After our session, Jenn and Lisa took us to a rest area where we could decompress more with chocolates and champagne. Don't know if this was just part of the couples massage package or if this was a customary thing that they did, but it was appreciated either way. One of the worst spa experiences I've ever had. I came to Zama expecting complete relaxation, and it was anything but -- they completely missed the mark. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, everything about the experience was disappointing. First off, the spa is inside an old house, and you can hear just about everything -- footsteps, conversations, doors opening and closing. When checking in, they asked for my robe size but never actually gave me a robe. I was led to the salt massage room where the massage felt more like a basic rubdown than an actual relaxing treatment. Adding to the discomfort, you could constantly hear people walking and talking nearby. After the massage, the therapist told me I could get dressed and meet her outside. I mentioned that I had a facial next and asked if I should put on a robe, but she said no, I could stay clothed for the facial. Strange, but I went with it. She then had me sit in a tiny waiting area for a few minutes before deciding to take me upstairs to wait instead. Upstairs was chaotic and disorganized, so she told me to go back downstairs to the original waiting area. My massage was at 4:45 p.m., and around 4:50 p.m., I saw the esthetician going into the room. She even asked if I was someone else before realizing I was her 4:45 appointment. The facial room was located under the stairwell and was so cramped that I barely had space to set down my tote bag or even my shoes. She instructed me to remove my top and bra -- like a standard facial -- which made it even more baffling that I had to get dressed in between services. After waiting about five minutes, she returned to start the facial. Throughout the treatment, she didn't explain anything she was doing or the products she was using. On top of that, the noise from people going up and down the stairs was constant, loud, and incredibly distracting. It was anything but relaxing, and I couldn't wait for it to be over. Checking out was just as bad. Several employees were standing around, and when I pulled out my wallet, one employee walked right in front of me to grab something without even saying "excuse me." Not once did anyone ask me how my experience was or if I enjoyed my services. I left without leaving a tip -- something I almost never do, even when the service is poor. I will absolutely never recommend this spa to anyone and will definitely never return. read more
