MindFox was an absolute blast! I was down here for a mini moon with my wife. I was calling around each escape room in the area, and MindFox was highly recommended by another room. The owners are fantastic!! Really great honest people who shares the joy of escape rooms. Black and White Cafe couldn't have been better. It's a theme I haven't seen anywhere except for in Asia for an actual cafe. Now I don't have to go to Asia to explore the fine details of a black and white room! The game flowed well. Visually, it's beautiful. The puzzles were just the right amount of difficulty for us. Perfect for 2 people for a date night! Oh yeah, we had a very nice personalized welcome right when we walked in. And I love the pictures at the end were photo both style. That's another thing I have yet to discovered. Highly recommended! read more

Fantastic game! Multi-sensory puzzles were challenging but made sense. We were impressed and delighted by the inventiveness of the mechanisms. One mechanism in particular was a real centerpiece and a blast to manipulate (can't say more without spoiling it)! Puzzle environment was atmospheric but not overwhelmingly so. Did the Black & White Cafe as a two-person team this weekend as my first escape room. We're both puzzlers so figured it would be at least mildly entertaining, but it was a blast! I was happy doing it with my friend, very cool seeing her mind work and solving puzzles as a team, especially as she saw things I didn't (or at least much faster than I would!). Isabella was a great game master, very kind and non-obtrusive, but supportive. We didn't use puzzle hints per se, but she saw we were having problems resetting a lock and gave us a reminder on screen (instructions and an opportunity to practice on the locks were given to us before the game, but we forgot - it was only the one lock we had a slight hiccup with). We were able to solve it with 17 mins to spare, but felt like the room was appropriately challenging and fun. The reception area, room itself, and bathroom all seemed very clean and well kept. There are cubby-sized lockers to store your belongings. Fantastic first experience! We want to try Moriarty's Manor sometime so they also kindly gave us a promo code for future use. My boyfriend and I wanted to see if we could solve a room, just the 2 of us. We booked Moriarty's Manor, even though the minimum number of players is supposed to be 3 or more. Well, I'll jump to the end...we did not solve it in one hour! LOL. BUT we still had a blast. The time we did spend trying complete the room was fun and exciting, and there are some very creative clues along the way. We will absolutely go back again and finish that one and try Black & White, too. Like others have said, the hosts are so sweet and warm, and the owners, who we got to meet as we were leaving, were really cool! We have done many escape rooms in San Diego and this was the best! We did Moriarty's Manor and our group of 6 all felt like we were contributing. Some of the puzzles had multiple steps, so this was definitely not your basic game! The tech elements and variety made this stand out. We loved hearing that this is a small business and the owners designed the game to features elements they actually like rather than the typical corporate room elements. Our gamemaster Isabella was awesome and even asked if we were sure we wanted our hint because she knew we were close and would be proud to complete it hint free (no hint shaming, the hints are unlimited!). Came here to try out black+white room for my birthday and came here again to tackle Moriarty's Room (5 minutes and 15 minutes to spare, respectively). I've got to say, MindFox has the most creative and well thought out puzzles. They do provide unlimited hints, as long as every team member in your group raises their hand. The special effects were amazingly done. It does help if you're knowledgeable about the pertaining themes of the rooms. The safety video they make you watch before entering the room is too cute. On both visits, the masked staff were so sweet and amazing. They have free lockers for your belongings and be sure to check out the bathroom! I'm sad they only have two themes. I want more escape rooms made by MindFox! read more

Nothing but positive remarks about Mindfox and the quality of their rooms and the specialists that have created them! We completed both rooms, two very different rooms, and they both had so many brilliant qualities about them that set them apart from other escape rooms we've been to. Their puzzles stretch your thinking so you really need to bring your A+ game for a thorough experience. When you start down the escape room journey, you get nervous that companies will run out of ideas and will not produce creative, exciting experiences. That was not the case here. I didn't think I would say this but Moriarty's Manor was my favorite room I've experienced thus far. We had a large group (14 people) and they took great care of us - from strong communication planning the experiences to helpful & enthusiastic hosts as soon as we arrived. I have done several escape rooms. And I feel like there were many things that set them apart from the rest... The bathroom and common areas are very clean and tidy. I liked the touch less sanitizers in these areas too! The staff are very friendly and nice! The informational video before our escape room was silly but not cheesy; it wasn't a distraction from the actual information. My dance sisters and I did the Black and White Cafe. We ranged from ages 14-34 years of age. Everyone had a part; we were all able to figure out puzzles independently and as a team, and yet we were all challenged well enough. We laughed, we scratched our noggins, but over all had a wonderful time with the puzzles in the Cafe. Pictures at the end was a nice touch! I've never had that. Usually it's a staff member taking it with someone's cell phone, and usually those pictures never come out nice. Not only do they offer framed pictures with their logo, staff knows to take pictures. We were in the area for Book Crawl and had saved the Moriarty's Manor to do with an Arthur Conan Doyle fan. Absolutely worth the wait! I see how they've amassed OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE reviews for other escape room fans. The design was top notch and immersive to the era and the story. The puzzles were creative and novel even after doing 70+ of these rooms, so I appreciated the originality! From the very first moment, the game was afoot! I loved that some required teamwork. We are based in Orange County, CA and continue to enjoy the wide range of rooms available to us in the area. We have only escaped 25+ rooms, but half of which were completed with just the 2 of us. Escaped?: Yes Participants: 2 (Would not recommend more than 4) Rooms: Single Price: $30 pp Staff: Absolutely awesome staff. This trip we did two escape rooms and the difference between the two staffs made it clear that this does make a difference. We could tell both of the game masters (male and female, sorry forgot their names) really had a passion for escape rooms. When we find staff that are just as excited as we are that we are there and sell the story to us prior to, it's makes the room that much more rewarding. The fact they took pride their creation stood out. Parking / Location: The location is in an industrial complex in the back. Apple maps led us directly to the front door. Once you find it there is plenty of parking. Experience: The unconventional theme was well received by both of us. Calming music playing in the background as we searched and great use of space. This room offered a "hard mode" for enthusiasts which we humbly agreed to and recommend for those that have done multiple rooms. Hint system provided through waving and the television inside the room (unlimited). This room was advertised as a great room for couples and if it was up to me I wouldn't take more than 3. Good combination of technology, locks, magnets and other elements in this enjoyable experience. Among all the rooms we have done with just 2 people, this room is in the top 5, granted we have only done about 10 of those. Unique photo system as well! read more

She was always there when we needed. She is easy to communicate and clearly explained us the rules. It was our first escape room experience, so we did the Black&White cafe. We are a family of four (2 kids- 2 adults) which was perfect size for us. Our younger son has a sensitivity to flashing lights so I did a lot of research to find a right escape room that is not dark. And my husband and I have been to over 10 so to be awed is always a plus. I did come with my entire family and 'Victoria' was our game master, she unfortunately ruined the energy and experience for me. She was rude to our party and was not willing to even show us one of the many puzzles we missed. She was pretty stern and negative in her tone through out the entire experience and with we've been to so many we normally get greeted with positive energy each time. I'm not sure if she was having a tough day but I would never go back to this place or recommend it because of the way she treated us. What a fun experience! We weren't sure how to break into the escape room scene but we are so glad to have started here. Has anyone else associated escape rooms with feeling actually stuck and afraid?? This proved to be the opposite of that. We did the black and white cafe room and it's well-lit, clean/spacious, and full of things that are great to look at. Instructions given before entering were perfectly clear and our host was so wonderful for a first-time experience and kept the hints coming (upon request). I would highly recommend this room to any beginners looking to feel comfortable and 100% immersed in the game! I am also looking forward to trying some other upcoming rooms they have for next time. As far as covid goes: I couldn't think of a better activity. They are handling everything really safely and you can remove your masks once youre in your room with just your party :) read more

Such a lovely little spot!! Black & White cafe and The Moriarty's Manor are two totally different games but both super awesome!! If you like the adventure type I recommend the latter but honestly i recommend everyone do both rooms to have the full experience. The GMs are super friendly and nice. They give you two options to play: with hints along the way or hints when asked. We always pick the second option but you get a choice! Parking is available right in front of the location so thats super convenient. I dont want to spoil the games so wont say much but you definitely won't regret going here!!! read more

We did Moriarty's Manor with a group of 5 and we found it pretty challenging! My group had varied experience levels (a few beginners, a few with 10+, and one who had done 30+) and we still had to request around 5 hints (and finished with only 5 minutes remaining). The puzzles had really cool tech with a lot of new things that I had never seen before. We really beat ourselves up on things that we requested hints for because we should have got it in the first place. All of the puzzles were logical and cohesive. Our GM Victoria was a sweetheart and we're definitely looking forward to coming back to play the black and white cafe room as well. This has probably been my favorite room in San Diego due to the really cool puzzle tech and high difficulty. Would recommend playing this with at least 3 people even though the min is 2. read more

My husband and I were doing our annual San Diego mini vacation this weekend and had booked the Black and White Cafe upon a recommendation by another escape room up in Orange County. Although we have collectively completed over 100 escape rooms and was prepped beforehand by how fun the room would be by both new and advanced players, we were pleasantly surprised by the overall design and feel of it. The gamemasters of MindFox Escape even offered us an advance mode due to our level of experience and challenged we were indeed! We finished with 11 seconds left on the clock and left the escape room with a big smile on our faces, vowing to come back again to try their other room in the future. Well... who would have thought that the future would mean the next day? My husband, apparently. We roped in two escape room newbies-- I mean, friends-- and tackled Moriarty's Manor together and escaped with 8 minutes left. This room was SO much fun and the puzzles were incredibly creative; the variety of puzzles illustrated to me that the team who designed this room had done their fair share of escape room research to break out of the stale lock and key approach. We played Moriarty's Mansion and I have to say it was my favorite out of the handful of rooms I've been to. The props were well crafted and the environs detailed.
