I'm gonna give you a different perspective. I've followed Jonathan through four pit-stops through Los Angeles over a six-year period. That makes him my longest relationship in this ass backwards town. And unlike all the many failed relationships I've had since starting with him, the reason ours has worked--the reason any relationship will ever work--is trust. Jonathan breeds trust from your first consultation onward. It'll begin with how he respects your time, then truly blossoms during his evaluation and recommendation. You notice this almost surgeon-like professionalism as he asks a few knowing, loaded questions, and evaluates things, and lays out his plan. You suddenly know you're in expert hands. Then you suddenly know something else. This is no monthly errand. An errand is simply a classification by whoever's running it. After a few cuts, it'll click that this monthly visit isn't so much a recurring to-do, but a must-do. It's your every-four week chance to collaborate on your better self. I've seen Jonathan work in four different shops before founding Gloss-O, and he stood out. Not cause of the arm tats (they're sweet) or his hairstyle (it fluctuates), but because nobody else in those places treated a haircut like he does, which is to say, with a craftsman attention to detail and execution. You'll see it in the way he keeps a meticulous shop, in the way his station is always clean, in the satisfaction he'll demand from not just you, but himself at the end of a job-well-done. You'll feel it as he transitions smoothly from one stage of the appointment into the next, an expert flow not unlike an athlete's. He'll trim back the layers, he'll ultimately redefine you, and he'll do that as he gets to know you. That whole trust-your-barber thing applies to Jonathan, who treats his customers as a big extended family, introducing them to one another and keeping in touch socially, both online and off. Your appearance matters a lot in this town. You can trust Jonathan with that, because nobody will take that responsibility more seriously, or with more commitment, and that's why he's been followed so loyally from shop to shop, and why every shop left behind falls back to the same-old, same-old. Where to begin... I'll try to keep this short. My barber is out of town so I needed to find…read moresomewhere to go to get my haircut, and this place pops up in google search w/ 4-5 star rating. I'm thinking okay cool sounds like a winner. I call the guy he tells me a specific time to come when he has availability, so I say cool and I show up. The problem is this place is being advertised as a barbershop, but it's actually his residence with a barber set up in it. That's not why the photos indicate on google, but it's fine I guess I just really need the cut so whatever. I get into the apartment where he cuts in his living room, and he is just starting to cut somebody else's hair, with another person waiting to get their hair cut after the person in the chair. This guy told me to come at a specific time, and when I do he has 2 people ahead of me! That means you're NOT available at the given time That YOU provided, and I had somewhere to be in a few hours. I figured I'd just wait it out bc at this point I don't have the time to try and find another barber. This guy is the slowest barber I've ever seen. He took over an hour on each of these 2 guys head, and as it turns out, these were friends of his who didn't even pay him when they left!!! He cut 2 of his friends before cutting me, the actual paying customer. I wanted to leave hours ago but I had already wasted too much time of my day, and atp I have somewhere to be in about an hour and a half. When I finally get in the chair, the guy of course takes over an hour to cut my hair, and proceeded to cut my entire beard off, and I didn't instruct him to do that, then laughed when I told him about it. His price was $40, and I paid him the $40 with no tip. That's a lot of money for a messed up haircut. The haircut itself was decent, but it definitely is a basic cut my barber could do it 15 mins. It took this guy over an hour to give me a basic hair cut. He did a poor job on the haircut overall, and he made me late for work. I will never go back to this dude again. I would suggest when you see this place pop up in your google search that you swipe left. Don't do it. He'll waste your time, mess you up, and laugh about it.

First, the online reservation system is legit. I don't mind the cancellation fee because I respect people's time. $40 is pricier than a standard cut but I expect more than a standard cut. Arriving at the shop, there's no exterior sign. A little confusing but let me save you some window peeping. Go to the corner and use the keypad entry box to type the suite number in. You'll get buzzed in. There are signs on the wall that will guide you. Donevin was welcoming and treats you like a longtime homie. He asked me a few questions to figure out what type of cut I was looking for - nothing fancy, just clean. And that he produced. Good experience and worth the money. Beware. Don't sit in that chair…read more I was looking for a new stylist closer to home, and found David online. Booked an appointment for the next day. I go in, meet David (lovely individual), the studio looks professional, and I'm thinking I made the right choice. Boy was I wrong. David seemed much more interested in giving me the cut *he* wanted than the one I asked for. It started out okay: Him: "What are we doing?" Me: "It's a pretty simple cut. All I need is the sides done, 1/2 faded up to a 1, but don't touch the top today it's a good length already." Him: "Sounds good, I know what I'm doing." David starts trimming the sides, and it seems like a normal haircut. Then, about 20 minutes in, he starts trimming my bangs. Then he moves to the top of my head. I was surprised, but he assured me, "I know you said not to touch the top, but it needs to be evened out." I'm not the stylist, so I said okay. He proceeded to trim more than an inch off the top, transforming my 'do from a classic side-part to a full-on super-short cut (front-flip, 90s boy band style - definitely not the look I was going for). After I got home, I realized that not only is it basically a buzz cut - it's also not an even one. All this after my *explicit* instructions that I didn't want him to touch the top. I'm still deciding whether to go to someone else to have them try and salvage what's left of my look, or just to suck it up until it normalizes. I'm looking forward to two or three months from now, when I can get back to the hairstyle I used to have (and the one I wanted to keep). I'm very much NOT looking forward to the inevitable in-between/growing it out phase that I now have to re-experience. I obviously won't be returning to David, and if you're considering trying him out, I'd think twice before you do.
