If you care about your health and looking for a professional doctor, this is not the place for you. The WORST service we've ever experienced. I'm incredibly shocked that this clinic is still open with a doctor and employees that obviously do not care about their patients or even seem in the right state of mind. I'm writing this review on behalf of my mom (the patient) and my dad who was there with her at the appointment. They are the sweetest people in the entire world and anyone who knows them know that they would never cause any issues - especially in public. I'm telling this story because I feel that it is important for people to know how Dr. Li is inept to treat patients and her office is unprofessional and unkind. They should not be in the medical field at all. As they were waiting to be called in, the receptionist told my dad that they still owed $34 from the last ultrasound. The last ultrasound was over 6 months ago and we never received any statements from insurance or the clinic. My dad asked her if she could give him a copy of the insurance claim for his records, and she said "you're giving me so much work". Uh, it's *literally* your job? Afterwards, my parents went in with Dr. Li and after the initial / regular check up, my mom asked if they'd need to do another ultrasound. Dr. Li said that she wasn't sick anymore so we wouldn't need to do another ultrasound, and that we didn't want to pay anyways (both of which is not true! My mom's levels went down but were not near the normal standard and just because my dad asked for the insurance statement after they never notified us 6 months after meant that we didn't want to pay?). My mom was flabbergasted, and said my life is more important than my money. And Dr. Li said okay let me go check your insurance coverage and went outside. When she came back she was extremely unprofessional and very loudly told my parents (directed to my mom) "I'm so scared of you guys, I'm SO scared of you guys!" And proceeded to freak out about how she was afraid of my parents and that all of her other patients are sooo nice and treat her like family. Again, my mom was confused and was trying to ask her what happened, and what they did to make her feel that way. Dr. Li then said that my mom was no longer sick and that she doesn't need to see her anymore. As my mom was still trying to understand the situation, Dr. Li said that "If you continue to act this way we will call the police". My dad then asked why she would call the police and then at that moment her attitude completely changed and she started apologizing and saying that it was their fault (wtf?). Keep in mind, my parents never rose their voice or did anything to provoke this behavior. It ended with my parents asking for them to transfer my mom's medical records to her primary care. I'm still in disbelief that this situation even happened. It seemed like there was a lot of miscommunication with the front desk and Dr. Li about payment and instead of asking, Dr. Li was accusatory and unprofessional, especially as a medical provider. Needless to say, we will never be returning to this horrific place. Words can't even explain the anger I still feel hearing about my parents experience knowing that my mom was already worried about her health and to go through this absolute insanity. People like this should never be in the field to help people. read more

Ms. Xifan Pan of this clinic is extraordinary in customer service. She is very good in her financial perspective. When I had insurance problems, she guided me throughout the whole process and gave me tips about what to do in the future. All the horror stories are true! I naively thought I have good insurance, I've met my deductible, I have no specialist copay or co-insurance (which was confirmed when I saw another specialist the prior week), I should be safe from this offices' shady billing that other Yelpers mentioned. Wow, was I wrong. After waiting for 30 minutes, I was called to the window and told my insurance can not be used. I understood and explained that our plan ended the week prior and we've signed up for Cobra so the same plan is active. I explained how it may take a few days for Blue Cross to update their system and had my confirmation email supporting this. The receptionist then said "Cobra doesn't pay us," which is a strange thing to say because we don't actually have Cobra, we have the same Blue Cross plan just administered through Cobra. Either way, she told me I had to pay $250 cash or check to see the doctor even though I have insurance. She also said I would only be reimbursed the amount my insurance does cover. This is ILLEGAL. I confirmed that they are in network with Blue Cross. This means they have agreed to the contractually negotiated rate that Blue Cross will cover for consultations. It is illegal to charge a patient beyond the contracted rate. End of story... I left the office and never saw the doctor. Since I had insurance I never thought to bring $250 cash or my check book and they refused to see me. Worse experience I have had with a medical provider. Dr. Ming Li is an excellent and knowledgeable doctor. She always takes her time to explain everything.

Dr. Li's office is located in a not so great location, but her service was efficient. She gave me time to explain everything and ask all my questions and walk me through all the fundamentals. Then she proceeded with diagnosis and procedures. I got in and out of the office within an hour, very efficient and informative. Copay is taking in cash or checks only, but her staff is also quite efficient and helpful. read more

Nowwwww I get it... I was confused as to why some yelpers were commenting on "cash payment" and this office being "shady". On 7/24 I called Dr. Li's office to schedule an appointment, I spoke with her assistant and confirmed with her that they accepted my insurance (Cigna). Her assistant mentioned that they did accept but I needed to confirm with my insurance that it was in-network, I told the assistant that I could give her my insurance information over the phone and she said she didn't need it she will need to see my card on the day of appointment. And so, I called Cigna to confirm copayment amount and to make sure it was within my network. Today, I left work earlier than usual in order for me to be able to make it to this appointment, when I arrived I gave my insurance card to the front desk assistant and was asked to fill out patient registration forms, medical history, etc.. I handed her my completed forms and she then mentions, "Are you aware that you have to make a copayment of $25 plus a deductible of $250 for your visit today?" I then told her I was aware of the copayment but needed to understand why I would have to pay a deductible. She then explained to me, "we want to make sure we receive payment for the visit today in case that your insurance does not agree to pay, in the case that your insurance does agree to pay we will reimburse you the $250 payment you made, we do this with all of our clients and reimburse them when we receive payments from their insurance provider" I asked her why I wasn't told this prior to me taking time off and driving all the way from Cupertino to down town San Jose... she then apologized and ok... I get the whole practice regulations they have at their office... HOWEVER, What I don't get is why wouldn't they explain this to their new clients when the client is inquiring about an appointment or visit. Also the fact that they "reimburse" their clients back seems a little off specially when they they only take cash. Of course, I called Cigna after to make them aware of this practice. Also, I checked the estimated cost and breakdown of this visit and I attached to this post.. I don't know where the assistant got the estimated $206 amount.. I have never in my life been to a less professional office for a provider. Particularly a specialist. My experience began with several *weeks* of trying to just get an appointment. No answer and no recording over and over. Finally got an answer "Hello" one day after just letting it ring and ring on speaker phone. I was so taken aback by the hello that I asked if it was the Dr's office. It was, and the demeanor of the person on the other end changed at that point. (Almost like she had calls forwarded and she was preoccupied and forgot that it was a work call coming in). I made an appointment with a weird feeling that I may have just given a bunch of personal info to a random stranger at a wrong number and wondered if I really actually had an appointment. I did have one. It was just a very odd experience. When I arrived for my appointment I was asked for a cash co-pay which I had not been expecting (credit cards not accepted at a specialist office? That seems shady or at the very least - weird) Luckily I had the funds on me. In my appt she very quickly diagnosed me with a pretty big deal disease and sent me out scared with a hand drawn picture for explanation of my illness and instructions to google it, 2 prescriptions to start taking immediately and a lab req. for labs in a month before a followup. I complied and came back for the followup armed with a boatload of questions. When I returned the same front desk staffer took - no joke - no exaggeration - *over* 5 mins to ACKNOWLEDGE that I was standing in front of her. She was not on the phone, she was not talking to anyone. She looked at me when I walked up, but never acknowledged me. I finally sat down without saying a word to her nor her to me. I then heard her on the phone with my insurance company where she proceeded to give my name and asking how much my payment would be for "X" in-office procedure to be done that day (she gave the medical procedure code for the procedure in question. I, having been a certified medical coder for years in the past figured out quickly that I was in for some really bad news and was wishing desperately my husband was with me. I nervously paid the $90 the staffer said I owed (nervous because of the procedure code I had heard associated with me and the visit I was about to have with Dr Li...not the $...though I do need to get that refunded still). When I went in and met with the Dr....I was to told "maybe" I don't have that disease after-all. OR *maybe* my body just responded really quickly to treatment. Great news either way though. Dr wanted me to "Wean off one of the meds but keep the one for heart and let me know how you do." Uhhhh...I was so stunned I never even asked about the procedure the clerk was discussing with my insurance. I still had ALL the symptoms I initially presented with, was given the diagnosis of a lifetime ailment, pay a co-pay for an in-office procedure....but nothing is wrong with me after all? Fast forward a couple of months with me doing what she said medicinally. I request a refill of the one she said keep taking through my pharmacy as the Dr said to do. It has now been three weeks and the faxes and calls from the pharmacy go unanswered, so the pharmacy asked me to try reaching them. The calls that I have been placing daily for a week now are not answered even by a recording except to say "the party is not answering at this time" sometimes when it has been ringing a while. (I have tried all hours of the day) The incompetence in this office is absolutely staggering and possibly not even legal considering the up-coding I heard going on with my own account. Not sure how she stays in business with a practice that is so bad about taking proper care of their patients...or even answering the phone with regularity. Going without heart meds for three weeks due to Dr/office negligence...yeah, time for a new Dr. I would not waste your time going here. Apparently the focus here is simply on getting your cash and getting you back out the door. read more

Dr. Li herself is quite knowledgeable and is a good doctor. My first appointment was set for 9:30, I ended up seeing her closer to 11 a.m. No apology from staff or doctor. Not professional but okay strike one. A couple months after, I had a minor issue that I needed to discuss with the doctor. I called numerous times throughout the week and got either a busy signal or an answering machine - all calls were made during business hours, not even during lunch! Strike two! Finally got a hold of them and spoke to a secretary whose english was poor. She could not understand what I was trying to stay. She then started to get loud which confused me since I was the frustrated one and was professional enough to keep my composure - so now she's angry with broken english..GREAT. I asked her to please have the doctor call me. I asked as nicely as possible since I could tell she's the type to "lose" my message. And guess what? No phone call from the doctor. I came to see Dr. Ming Li a year ago after years of various symptoms significant of serious endocrine diseases dismissed/no cause figured out by other physicians I had seen. Other physicians ordered tests or were afraid to order tests because of insurance reasons, but couldn't interpret their results and just sent me on my way. The first time I saw Dr. Li, she was empathetic, thorough and ordered all the tests she felt were necessary to diagnose me and then suggested follow-up at Stanford Medical Center. She even called me at home to make sure I was alright and that I had received an appointment at Stanford. It was Thanksgiving time and she also wanted to make sure that if I had a problem over the holiday I had a way to contact her. You don't get care like that very often nowadays. It can take 2-4 weeks to get an appointment with her, but her secretary, Lisa is good at keeping a call list with names of those who want an earlier appointment. Usually there's a cancellation and she calls you to come in earlier than you're actually scheduled. There's often a wait in the office, but that is b/c she takes time with her patients. When it's your turn, she will give you the time you need. Dr. Li accepts most major insurances and co-pays or other payments due are expected at the time of service. They only accept cash or checks, no credit cards at this time. Office policies are clearly stated and given at the time your new patient intake papers are sent. I think this is good so there aren't misunderstandings in the future. Her office staff is good about getting pre-authorizations from your insurance for tests/imaging should that be required. There is a Quest Diagnostics lab in her building which is convenient if she orders blood work (and you're fasting at the time or your tests don't require fasting). I will continue follow-up with Dr. Li and would recommend anyone with diabetes, thyroid diseases and other endocrine disorders go to her for care. read more

I like this clinic and everyone working there. The clinic is not in a rich, wealthy location, but it has the best doctor and staff who are compassionate and are doing excellent work in helping the sick patients of our community. The front desk lady is particularly helpful. No matter how busy things can get, she is always professional, friendly, and puts in extraordinary effort in helping every patient. Took my daughter for her girl little issue. The doctor referred us to a blood testing company near her clinic, the result was quite alarming according to the doctor. So we took her to another doctor within one week which came up with a completely different result. So, just have to think through what the doctor told you and don't accept it as is. read more

My mom is a patient here, she has been seeing Dr.Li for 7 years she is a very good doctor and is very kind to my mom. The front desk lady is very friendly. She went out of her way to help me with my appointment to see the doctor. I also notice that most patients that come to see Dr.Li are senior minorities many of them do not speak English. The staff of this office speaks English, Vietnamese, Chinese and Tagalog. It is nice to see a doctor who cares so much about serving the minorities in this community. I am glad I came to this office. Dr.Li is an awesome doctor she takes her time to explain everything and answer questions she is very genuine. Also this office is doing a great job at serving this community. The staff is very professional and friendly. I noticed a recent negative review and I think if a Doctors office can not verify your eligibility your insurance may be terminated or you're not eligible for health insurance and the staff SHOULD ask you to be responsible for the service provided by that office. I find that Dr. Ming Li is a great doctor to get your cancer treatments at his location. His bedside manor is great. We had an appointment to see Dr. Li at 2:45 and had to take time off of work to make it. The office staff gave us their old address but we finally got to the right place. Waited in the lobby for 10 minutes without being acknowledged by the office staff. Then when I asked how far behind the Dr was running, the office staff ignored me and said to sit down. An hour later, we were still left sitting in the office, which is very dirty and disorganized. We were finally seen and was told they couldn't do what we needed or came in for. I have suffered from signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism for years despite taking my synthroid religiously. No other doctor has addressed my problem properly. I always felt tired, sleepy, weary, cold intolerant, constipated, unable to focus, etc. Consulting Dr. Ming Li was the best decision I did. She is the expert of the field - she did a battery of test on me, discussed every step and explained the disease process very well. Now I feel better!!! I really like this office because the front desk staff is particularly friendly and going out of her way to help people. She is always patience and explained the procedures clearly to us. We felt very comfortable with this office. I have been visiting Dr Li for years. I don't understand why people making a big deal about it? The office staff explained to me that if after they billed my insurance, the insurance doesn't require me to pay then they will refund me. Some people mentions about paying after billing the insurance, what if they dont pay? Com'on people. It's common sense! Stay Away! This doctor has a dog in her office. She brings her dog to work? The office is absolutely disgustingly dirty. Billing practices are questionable at best. They do not take credit cards or flexible spending account. Kept asking for more and more money. Then we received a bill from the pathologist at Stanford. I would give this "doctor" a minus 5 if I could. I have never seen such filth in a so called medical office. The front door was held open with a rope; the floors and entire office was beyond dirty. There wasn't even a nurse in the office. The doctor was wearing dirty sneakers and socks. She didn't even have a white coat on like every other doctor I've ever seen. She was greasy and dirty looking. I wouldn't take my pets in a facility like that! They didn't even take weight or blood pressure readings. I could go on...but why? That being said, I've had experiences where I've called 7 or 8 times in the same morning only to be disconnected or be put on hold for really unreasonable amounts of time. I've been a patient of Ming Li for years. It was a bit off-putting initially having to bring cash to pay up front, even though she accepts my insurance. I'm happy to overlook some of the unusual aspects of the way the office is run, writing them off to cultural differences since Dr Li is an excellent endocrinologist. read more

I was at Dr Li's office recently. The staffs are courteous and friendly. My English is not very good, but the staffs can speak my language to help me out. Actually their staffs can speak Chinese, Vietnamese and Filipino. I feel very comfortable in their office. They got me into an appointment really quick as i was sick that day. I feel Dr Li is very knowledgeable and professional. She explained my condition clearly and have a detailed plan for my treatment. I feel much better after every appointment with her. read more

She gets the point straight away, which may not please some patients, judging by a few reviews.
