In my quest to try any and all 'hole in the wall' Chinese restaurants, I convinced my friends to come to Ming Shee's for lunch one day. One of my friends had been here before and vouched for the deliciousness. Another friend and I were first timers. So off to get food we go. The locale is off of fairly busy University street, so it's an easy place to access. Upon getting there, we were greeted by a lovely staff who sat up promptly. The interior decor was pretty cool. It is more than your typical 'order and leave' place that has 3 tables. They do have carry out, but this is more restaurant-like. So the interior is more spruced up and has a lot of Chinese charm to it. We ordered our food and it came out fairly quick. I got your plain chicken fried rice and it was pretty dang good. My tastes have expanded since visiting here, so I am curious to try their General Tso's some day! I think they also had beer available, but I am not 100% sure on that. But, all-in-all, it was a pleasant lunch with friends and good food. What more could someone want? read more

After 45 yrs I finally tried Ming Shee once again. I used to dine there quite often. It was Sooo delicious then!!! and the atmosphere was very oriental. Today I dined there for lunch. I had the Beef with snow peas & egg rolls. It was delish! Steaming HOT(not spicy hot) Disappointed though on the egg rolls. No flavor. I wished they'd never changed. It was the only authentic Chinese restaurant in flavor and ambience. The service was great too! Will b back taking my husband along in an evening sometime. We eat at Ming Shee every week and usually get the same two entrees, Mongolian beef and sweet & sour chicken. the small portion is plenty and the food is always excellent. the best part is the fortune cookie we get then read our fortune with each other at the end of our meal. lastly, the staff is always friendly and courteous. we love eating at this restaurant! read more

For me, this spot has been pretty reliable for many years. It's inexpensive and for the most part, everything has stayed the same for the 25 years I've eaten there. I moved several years ago, but I tend to stop when I go back to Peoria for a little nostalgia. I'm sad that it is takeout only now, as it was always a quick dine in lunch. The lunch combo portions are perfect. My favorite thing from here is the BBQ pork appetizer: we'll get a pint of it and take it home and eat it with salad or rice and a vegetable. Their egg foo young is some of the best I've had - thick egg patties, lots of bean sprouts and meat. I always get the gravy on the side as I only like a small bit of it. Mongolian dishes are not the typical, these are more veggie heavy. Only complaint are the egg rolls. I'm pretty sure they are cooked in peanut oil or they use a little peanut butter, I've always loved that flavor and it's the same, the rolls themselves are just not as full as they used to be. But that taste takes me back to when I was a teenager and had a few spare bucks for an order of egg rolls and a small fried rice on occasion. read more

Pretty basic. Good Chinese food. Nothing spectacular to say about it. Their service is pretty good. As far as being speedy especially if you have it to go order. The ambience is nothing fancy. In fact, it's a little lackluster. But the comfort Chinese food as I would call it is typically our go to when we want cheap fast Chinese. read more

Mediocre at best. Years ago the food was excellent. Employees at carry out are rude; female working at counter plopped my order down and abruptly left,but never said anything to me. I've been ordering from Ming Shee and have gotten missing items and never complained cuz I'm just happy with their food. My last order was missing crab Rangoon. Also the Internet says $55+up free order crab Rangoon. I received none. I complained and lady tossed my one paid order of crab Rangoon and showed me new menu which says you have to spend $59.99 to get. By the way I spent $59.02. That's how they treat loyal customers?! Old Peoria institution. Entryway is full of accolades and newspaper awards from decades past. They no longer apply. Very average with most dishes lacking flavor. Maybe bring back MSG. Dining area can be disruptive (workers constantly running through dining area from kitchen to front counter to serve carry out). It's like eating at home with six kids running circles around you. Needs updated. Hopefully it will adapt and prosper in the future. read more

I enjoy stopping by Ming Shee for lunch. They have several specials with meal, rice, egg roll, rangoon and drink for around $7. I enjoy their Hunan chicken, and they also have bubble milk tea, which you can't find everywhere. I have gotten take out food over the years but it's never as good as I think it should be or used to be. Went here today got the beef and mushroom! Was amazing flavor and nice sauce with it!! Ive been to alot of chinese places in peoria but this was my favorite! They had the teriyaki chicken on a stick which I missed alot! Then had coconut milk bubble tea was great! Had beef tips was good. Then tried the Szuechan chicken and pork egg rolls was okay! I walked in and I was greeted by a young woman, that definitely did not want to be there. You place your order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. I ordered the egg foo young, which was ok, but the rice was mushy a had a bitter taste and the gravy was tasteless. I had shrimp in Lobster Sauce and my hubby had the cashew chicken. Both were delicious! I don't think I have ever had a bad meal there. We have also gone inside for dinner. Nice and quiet and the help is very polite. I'll continue going there. Best Chinese around here read more

I used to eat here when I worked in Peoria. Over the last four years i have craved it every time i come to town. This is the last time try, it just isn't the same. Pork fried rice, Mongolian beef combo includes eggroll and crab rangoon. I also ordered the wontons. I used to get the eggroll uncooked and take them home i lived them so much, now I can't even eat two bites. Crab rangoon from here has nevee been a favorite today it had something strinfy inside and i spit it out. Beef barely brown and rice had barely anything in it. During this time i understand people can be less hospitality but maybe say something after slapping my food on the table before you snap the sliding door shut. read more

Normally I give Ming shee a very good review but, today I give them only 1 star due to no customer loyalty! I ordered a chef special of peanut butter chicken and 20 minutes later I find out as I'm standing outside the restaurant that they don't have enough peanut butter chicken!!?? So they give me the combo instead which is half of the meal for a dollar less and 10% off which I had to ask for multiple times!!! Since we order there pretty much weekly they should have offered 2 combos since the chef specials feed two of us with leftovers!!!!! But they didn't and that's why they get 1 star So therefore I am hungry and my daughter is not thanks Ming shee for nothing!!! I use to go here many years ago and always loved it. Was in town from Tennessee and decided to place a order to pick up. Ordered spicy garlic chicken # C-16 combo according to the website. Also told her spicy garlic chicken to make sure she got it right. I also ordered a small egg drop soup and a order of fried wanton. Not sure what they gave me but when I made it back where I was staying there was some chicken in it and lots of veggies but absolutely zero spice and no garlic or pepper flavor. Actually, not much flavor at all. The crab Rangoon was terrible and the egg roll cold. The fried wonton was the saving grace. It was hot and crispy. Needless to say I paid a bit over $17 plus tip for a dinner I ended up throwing away. I will not be going back. It is not the same great food it once was. read more

Wow! I love this place! Really fast service, great tasting Chinese food, and large portions. Although Ming Shee is meant for take-out, they have a very nice seating area with a clean and inviting atmosphere. This building may seem small, but inside is quite spacious. Some great items to try are the Mongolian Beef with fried rice and the Four Seasons (shrimp, pork, chicken, and vegetables). If you get the combo, it comes with one crab rangoon and one egg roll (contains peanuts). This place has quickly climbed my ladder of Chinese food rankings in Peoria. This is my go to Chinese food place in Peoria. The food is great, portions are good, prices are alright (except for the lunch specials, which are a real bargain). There is almost nothing that I've eaten here that I didn't like. The entrees are always good, the fried rice is great (though sometimes can use some soy sauce or hot sauce), I really like the steamed dumplings, and they let you substitute fried wantons for the egg roll or crab rangoon in their lunch special. read more

I haven't been to Ming Shee restaurant in a very long time. My son brought a meal home for me a little bit ago. It was absolutely delicious!. This is very near my home so I'm sure we will be back. The food was hot I ordered the pineapple chicken and you could tell that it was freshly made and the pineapple was delicious. The helping was so large that I had to save part of it for another meal. We also got white rice crab rangoons and egg rolls. All of it was piping hot and delicious. Price wasn't bad for the size helpings that we got they were more than generous! We used to go to that Buffet up North University but they closed. I'm glad we decided to try Ming Shee!!! We will definatly have Chinese food a lot more in the future:-)!!!!! read more

This place was the place to go years ago. We decided to try and supoort this local business in December 2020 . The food portions were very small and not very good. Could have gone to WalMart frozen food section for comparable quality. We drove up to the carry out window and asked for the order. Very rude people that run the place. This place was once average, and now it has fallen to below average. It was one of the only Chinese places open on the 4th of July so my family and I reluctantly gave them another chance. On the plus side, service was accurate and fast. Like other Chinese restaurants, the portions they serve in-house are smaller than the to-go portions. This was kind of irritating because we ended up spending over $90 on food, and were left disappointed and hungry. We started with a wonton soup. The soup lacked flavor but was filled with a fair amount of wontons. Yet, the wontons were small, and barely had any flavor or meat in them. We ordered a few fruit smoothies with tapioca pearls in them. All were overly sweet and too thin. We ordered a hot and sour soup that was comparable to what you would find at a regular Chinese buffet. When the Shrimp with Lobster sauce came out, we were surprised to see that it looked and tasted like the Hot and Sour Soup with a little seafood tossed in. Kung Bao Chicken was okay but the chicken was sliced instead of diced. Then, the Mongolian Chicken came out and tasted almost identical to the Kung Bao Chicken with nearly identical sauces. My sister and nephew enjoyed their Teriyaki Chicken on A Stick and the steamed dumplings. We ordered the chicken strips for my niece, and she received a small portion of plain sweet and sour chicken sans sauce. We asked for extra spicy everything and nothing was spicy. The crab rangoon and fried rice were okay, but the egg rolls were very plain. The only person who finished their dish was my brother-in-law who had the Happy Family. This place is constantly busy with take-out but I think there are much better, affordable options in Peoria. read more
