Never Again!! I have always loved Mings until lately. This was one of my favorite take out places in Tyler. This past Saturday i was calling in a take out order. the young man who answered the phone asked if i could please hold as he was taking an order. I decided to start driving across town so to get my food while still on hold. 15 minutes later i arrived at the restaurant and was still on hold. walked in there were maybe 10 people sitting down eating. When i asked to speak to a manager some rude 20 something kid told he was the manager and acted as if he didnt care. My wife and i have eaten there as much as once a week but at least once a month but i would rather go to Brookshires on Rice Rd for my take out Asian food then to ever step foot in Mings again read more

This is a decent Chinese restaurant. That is actually more of a compliment than you think. The reason for that is because there are only 3 decent Chinese food restaurants in all of East Texas (Ming's and Julian's in Tyler and GZ's in Longview). 99% of all Chinese restaurants in East Texas are All-You-Can-Eat buffet yuck-fests with oilfield rednecks poppin' off about trying to "put the hurt on 'em" by eating so much food that the restaurant loses money on them (for what it's worth, you could eat a 55 gallon drum of Chinese food and not hit $1.25 in food and labor cost). The egg drop soup was good. It didn't taste like it was made a week ago. The Kung Po chicken was spicy and flavorful. There were probably 10 water chestnuts to every piece of chicken so they were either trying to hide the fact that there wasn't much chicken or they have cornered the market on water chestnuts. The egg roll was decent but the sweet and sour sauce and the hot mustard added a lot. The atmosphere is sort of remodeled burger joint meets soul food diner. You order at the counter so there is no service. They aren't doing much so they could actually come by and refill your drink or see if you need something. It was clean. This is HIGHLY unusual to be able to use the word clean in association with an East Texas Chinese restaurant. The food was not world class but good enough that I would want to go back and try other things. There are not a lot of good, non-chain restaurants in Tyler so this will definitely be on my standard rotation for the foreseeable future. Smiley face. read more

I love Ming's! I have been multiple times and the amount of you you get is ridiculous, but I always end up getting two meals out of it. Every time I have been the employees have been friendly and knowledgable. The food has always tasted hot and fresh. Can't get enough of this place. read more

After waiting an HOUR from the time I ordered until I got my food in the drive-thru, you would think the order would be perfect. WRONG!!!!!! And because there is only one way in and out of the parking lot, once you order, you are stuck because you can't get out. I went back up to the restaurant and took my food inside to have them fix it. Showed them the receipt and talked to them as well and it STILL wasn't right when I got home the 2nd time. And to top it off, the bag that I grabbed from home to put the food in to take back up there had a hole in it that I didn't see so now my seat is stained from the SAUCE. 4 stars for value. Dealing with a raging hangover from last night's New Year's Eve festivities, I knew some greasy Chinese food would do the trick. Since I looked like a homeless bum, I opted for the drive-thru, which is a great option. I ordered a Kung Pao beef / chicken combo, sans veggies. My God, did they ever load up the to go box! The amount of food they gave me could've fed an army of those little ethiopians with the flies all over their faces. Quick to go service, friendly employees, cheap prices, and a heaping amount of food. Hangover no mas! I'll return when I need some quick Chinese. read more

Very good food. It's owned by the some people who own Liang's in Tyler (a more upscale sit-down Chinese restaurant)......so you're getting the same exact food, but are spending about 15% less on it! I like that if you go in a bit late, and order from the steam table, they'll usually pile it on (since they won't be re-stocking those items on the steam table that night!) Call ahead if you're doing drive-thru......and yes, the atmosphere is a bit on the plain side........but for taste? 5 stars!! read more

Mings Cafe offers superb Chinese food for average prices. Mings loses a star for two reasons: 1. The drive-thru is pretty slow. The food is made-to-order, so it can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to get your food. You might as well eat inside. 2. One thing I didn't like was when a little boy (who's mom works there) looked to be elementary age came in after school he was sent to the dining room unsupervised. I've been frequenting Mings for a couple years now and have yet to be let down. The steam table items are always delicious and are accommodating to working hours as well (11am-2pm; 4pm-8pm). The prices here are also hard to beat as well. It's hard to find another Chinese takeout/ sit in restaurant in the area that has prices as good as Mings. If I had to make a complaint, I'd say I wished they had an employee delegated to cleaning the tables while the tempo of the restaurant is high and it's hard to find a clean table to sit. Don't go here if you are in a hurry. They advertised that they were open at 11:00. I waited in drive through window from 11:00-11:09. Finally went inside and ordered. I did not get food until 11:47! Good food. Very friendly employees. Great Prices. But the portion size was too big. Being part of the clean plate club is my down fall. I had a Thai salad, I did not care for the pineapple on it but it was served with two dressings, the house dressing I preferred the other was a thin sweet dressing. Went through the drive through in my f550 service truck with a crane and had plenty of room. Yeah it takes a bit in the drive through because everything is made fresh. It says that when you pull up so ignore those other reviews. I ordered crab Rangoon, fried pot stickers, and Mongolian beef and they were all fantastic. The Mongolian could have been more spicy but it was still excellent. The portions were big, two gigantic scoops of rice I had no hope of finishing. Excellent food. Waited another fifteen min nothing another five min nothing three ppl have came in ordered and left . She liked it and she's 7. Very picky eater with autism. My only complaint is there was the owner letting their son picking fights with my niece. And she didn't understand why. This place is great! It is our go to Chinese place in town! The portions are large enough to share for two people and the price is well worth it! The food is cooked to order unless you order from the steam table, but we always order from the menu so that it's fresh. They do have specials everyday. We absolutely love this place. read more
