I checked the County of Santa Cruz's website, specifically the environmental health department's inspection reports for retail food facilities (violations of health & safety code violations) According to this report, pg 28, Ming's has "rodent or insect infestation" and "inadequate hand washing procedure", & 5 general violations. Need I say more??? We ate here last week and got very ill. When we called the restaurant to ask them about the report they hung up on us. We also found someone else had yelped them 2 years ago with the same problem. Be careful eating there. read more

Food was awful! Specifically, the chicken tasted rotten. We told the server about the terrible tasting chicken; she REACHED into our food, grabbing a piece of the chicken out of the noodles WITH HER FINGERS, ate it and told us there is nothing wrong with it. I asked her to then remove it from our bill and she argued with me and did nothing about it. I will never go back to this place and recommend you don't either, unless you like rotten chicken and someone eating off your plate. GROSS... read more

I love the food here! I usually get the B2 lunch/dinner and the deep fried wontons are excellent. The vegetables are cooked to perfection with the right balance of softness to crunchiness. Very consistent and the cook is fantastic and front end very pleasant. There is only one thing missing.. a little music during lunch or dinner. Sorry but I dont like hearing other people eat and it makes the atmosphere a little uncomfortable as everyone there can hear each others conversations. I agree completely with Hamilton. The food may not be the "best" Chinese in the area...but I was raised on Ming's and it's in my blood. When I come back into town, the first thing I usually request is Ming's to go. Their Sweet n sour pork, chicken chow mein egg rolls are my personal favs. read more

Hands down one of the better Chinese spots I've eaten at. I usually just pick it up to go on my way home when I get the infamous " what's for dinner " text from my better half. We order the crispy chicken, steamed rice and broccoli every time. It's the best dish on the menu. If you haven't tried it you are missing out. read more

I'm rating it with the price in mind. I went in for lunch and enjoyed both the wonton soup, and hot and sour. I also ordered the Ma Po Tofu with pork and Mongolian Beef. The lunch order comes with a choice of soup, an egg roll, and the entree served with either steamed rice or combination rice. All for only $5. This is a great deal for having food cooked to order, and served in a timely manner. The lady working there was kind, and attentive. I was pleased with my options and looking forward to returning and trying other options on the menu. Even for dinner prices, it is very reasonable and the portions at lunch are on the larger size. This place was recommended by a friend who used to live near here a couple years ago. I heard nothing but great things about this place. He said I should order the Crispy Chicken, so I did. DEAR LORD IT WAS DELICIOUS. I also was amazed that they had Curry Chow Fun here. The portions are pretty big, so you'll have left overs for later! I have VERY good impressions from this place. Just had Chicken Salad, Hunan Beef and Ming's Fried rice. All very good! The Hunan Beef was crispy and very tasty. My favorite Chinese Chicken Salad is "over the hill"...we've been looking for a place in the greater Santa Cruz area and Ming's is definitely the tastiest in the area! The food is plentiful and I'm always leaving with a box and spending less than 30 bucks. The staff is kind and checks in rather frequently...maybe awkwardly....but that's better than infrequently! A 'for two' combo and an extra plate is what we do, it is probably what you should do. read more

Love this place always great food and service. Lunch specials range from $5.50-$6.25 and dinner specials around $8. Oh did I mention they give you a lot of food. I LOVE MINGS. It is like comfort food to me. The Hot and Sour soup is the best in Santa Cruz and I have tried a LOT of different soups. I have always got great service and they are FAST. Great for lunch if you only have a short break. The lunch specials are great value. My favorite is the Garlic Chicken. Great sauce. The vegetables have always been fresh and crisp. Especially the broccoli. The combination meals are great value. I love the flavor of the Mu Shu. The lemon/crispy chicken is a large piece of chicken with a crisp batter and not tiny little pieces with more batter than chicken like you get at most places. It is not going to win any awards for being cool or trendy or for innovative decor. What you get is really good basic chinese food and a great price served with a smile and a fortune cookie. read more

Definitely not my favorite. I really *want* to like it - the location is so convenient. But... CONS: - Menu appears to be your standard, Americanized Chinese food - Too much sauce used. On our recent visit, we ordered fish with black bean sauce and kung pao chicken. The fish was good when it was piping hot, but turned oily and goopy very quickly. Kung pao chicken was disappointing - somewhat bland / not the right flavor, despite all the sauce - Vegetables were barely cooked. I guess the upside is that they were not over cooked PROS: - Service is friendly and attentive - Restaurant seems reasonably clean - Big menu - Convenient location with parking - Very reasonable prices If you're in the area and looking for Chinese food, I recommend walking a few doors down to Golden Buddha. I haven't been here in years since I moved away from the area, but during college when I went to Cabrillo and my boyfriend at the time lived nearby, it was my go-to Chinese lunch place. Assuming it's still the same, the food is very cheap, large portions, and consistently good. I always came here for their lunch specials. They had a dozen choices around $5 or $6, which came with a cup of soup, egg roll, and choice of fried or steamed rice. What a deal! Again, the food was consistently good (okay, not the best Chinese I've ever had, but satisfying, cheap, and just good.) The service was also good. Hopefully nothing has changed. Love Ming's! I just got back in town after being away for a bit, I use to be a regular here. Ming's has changed hands since I've last been here. The present owners are not only super friendly but their food is really good! I got the Seafood Soup for my mom because of all the yummy reviews and pictures. She is a seafood Lover and very particular about her food. She absolutely Loves the soup! It's very flavorful without all the salt. Very impressive! I come here at least once a week to pick up 2 orders at a time for her. The veggie fried rice is super tasty, it has the smoky flavor from the cast iron pan. Excellent beef chow mein here. I go here once a week for that and the cashew chicken. The best Chinese food in Santa Cruz county in my opinion. Their soups are yummy too. I've had hot and sour and wor won ton. My coworker won't eat carbs and has the Kung Pao chicken. My other coworker eats there practically every day. He loves the string bean chicken. Went there for the first time tonight and the Hunan beef was so hard and chewy that I couldn't even cut it with a knife let alone eat it! I gave the lady three chances over the phone to either offer me a new beef or my money back and I got silence all three times! All she could say each was the beef was probably over fried and that she understood I was disappointed. I said well I won't be coming back and she Said it's OK I understand. What a joke! Never again. Yuck. I don't get the reviews below at all. Just got the "Ma Po Tofu", which was all wrong. Firm instead of soft or medium tofu, cut into huge chunks so the inside has no taste at all. Pork was not ground, but cut into large gristly strips. And hardly any sauce, with zero spiciness to it. Just tasted like bland tofu cubes. Maybe the previous reviewers like Americanized Chinese, but I don't. I like the real deal. read more

Love this restaurant! I eat here at least twice a week, my favorite is the seafood noodle soup. I have been experiencing sf noodle soup in many restaurants from all over the Bay Area. I used to live in SF and all the locals would order sf noodle soup so I got on the band wagon. Ming's by far has the best in this area.
