Called in an order for dinner as this was the only Chinese restaurant in Capitola open past 9. The woman who took my order was very sweet and made sure to read back my order to me. The food was ready on time. Also, the prices are amazing! $24 for a meal for 3 people! I ordered chicken chow mein, egg rolls and orange chicken. The chow mein was delicious. Noodles were not soggy, the sauce was flavorful and the chicken was juicy. Definitely the highlight of the meal! The egg rolls were good, but nothing to write home about. They were crispy and well seasoned. The orange chicken was interesting, to say the least. Chicken was tough, under-seasoned and fried for too long. Also, the sauce was very citrusy tasting, to the point where it tasted fake. It reminded me of a melted orange flavored lollipop poured over chicken. Kind of gross. Customer service goes a long way. It doesn't matter if you are dining at a casual restaurant, a sports bar, hole in a wall, etc. because the expectations are there. Depending on where you go, the bar to reach either goes higher or lower. I did not raise the bar high once I stepped in but the lady here blew me away right after my order was placed. The lunch combos are cheap and the menu itself isn't expensive. The lunch combo is a real steal because the plate consist of your entree, steamed rice or BBQ pork fried rice, soup (either hot and sour or wonton), and an egg roll. Skip the egg roll. The wonton soup was a bit bland but the cabbage and broth was quite flavorful. The BBQ pork fried rice was on the dry side but my beef and black bean sauce was absolutely delicious. I tried my daughter's lunch combo and loved the sweet and sour pork. What I enjoyed and adored most was the lady that took care of us until the end. She refilled our iced waters and kept checking on us. The place wasn't packed but she was the only one taking orders, serving, and bussing tables... I think she was fantastic... her eyes, her tone of voice, even her body gestures made me feel warm inside. read more

Walnut prawns at 9pm!!! This was the most epic impulse food during our mini vaca at Charminade. That's another story. I saw our hotels in house menu and eagerly pursued other options! I called and my order was taken by a courteous and kind woman. She said 10 minutes and my Vito drove the 1.6 miles to grab it and bring it to me. We were standing outside reading the menu and debating if we should try it out and the lady working said "come in - its good food I promise you!" How can you say no to that? There are new owners so I think this place may have a bad reputation because of the previous owners- I wouldn't know because I've never been. Just re-tried Ming's after many years, and as the Nextdoor neighbors said, it is MUCH IMPROVED! The dishes were fresh (veggies not overcooked) and sauces were tasty. I am so happy Soquel now has good Chinese food! I wish they had changed the name or advertised the new ownership, but evidently it was not in the budget. Check them out. After many years, a relatively new owner, and great reviews, we decided to order takeout from this little gem in Soquel. The order was ready promptly and everything was just delicious. We began with fried egg rolls which were crispy and fill with ginger and vegetable goodness. The sauce was not too sweet and fresh tasting. The hot and sour soup was as expected...hot, with just the right amount of sour. General Tso chicken was golden fried chicken tenders cooked perfectly and the sauce was sweet, with a little spice. The beef and broccoli was excellent with a light, gingery flavored sauce, not intended to be spicy. It was also very good. The prices were reasonable and actually a little less than our other favorite restaurant. Definitely a new go to Chinese restaurant near our home. read more

BEWARE OF PRICING!!!!!!!'Me & my partner are new to the area & were looking for a yummy go to Chinese place in our neighborhood. We ordered lunch from a menu they had handed us the day before when we stopped by. The next day we decided to order lunch, we placed our order, it was done on time when we went to pick up our order to our SURPRISE they increased the prices from the menu. My partner asked if they must have added up our order incorrectly, the lady was extremely rude instantly and said prices increased, and removed an item asking if we did not want the item because of the price increase. We didn't mind spending more for we are small business owners as well, but her being so rude and removing items as if we couldn't afford them was very insulting. We paid for our food & now for food review: Orange chicken- did not have very much spice and was over cooked, white rice was good (hard to mess up) Sweet & Sour Pork- it was good but slightly overcooked, I asked to put sauce on side and they said they do not do that. I've tried many Chinese restaurants and hands down, this is my favorite. I don't think I could say anything bad if I tried. My husband and I are very picky and have high standards, but this place has met our expectations each time. We give this place five stars because: 1. The restaurant is always emaculant! Each table is clean, not a single thing on the floor and not a speck of dust. This makes us feel confident that the kitchen is equally spotless. 2. The service is warm and comfortable, the main waitress is always accommodating and prompt. For example, I finished my glass of ice tea while waiting for the food (I was very thirsty) and not a second went by before she was over refilling it. She even wanted to refill it when we were done and the bill was paid. 3. The food is consistently delicious. It isn't oversauced, too salty, too sweet and cooked perfectly each time. We try one new item each time, but their sweet and sour prawns and special fried rice are my jam! Even take out is consistently delicious. This will continue to be our number 1 Chinese food place. I've always been fond of Mings. Great egg fu yung and crispy chicken. But after my last dinner order from them I probably won't order again. I called in an order to go for four different dishes. Chow Mein, Sweet/Sour Pork, Lemon Chicken, Hunan Beef. I should have known that something wasn't going to be right when they said it would be ready in 10 minutes. The food was old, overcooked and tasteless. It was obviously prepared much earlier in the day. I understand the need to pre-prepare some of the popular dishes, but this wasn't the least bit fresh or appetizing. It was terrible. I'd avoided Ming's because of its reputation for crappy food until I heard it had new owners and everyone started raving about it on Nextdoor. I picked up some tofu and eggplant in garlic sauce and it was cooked perfectly!! They have an amazing menu, straying far from the usual ho-hum Kung Pao and sweet & sour. I don't care who you are the majority of people eat soy sauce with Chinese food ( that's why it's on every table ) the last 2 take outs have been tasteless and needed soy sauce ! And they DO NOT ADD SOY PACKETS ANYMORE ! It's a shame when they charge extra money for generals chicken to be substituted for sweet and sour chicken The price difference on their menu is $1.00 but crazy lady wants to charge $4.00 ! We're were so pleased! I hadn't been here for a while but I had a cold and wanted some wonton soup. We were warmly greeted when we arrived. The place has had some upgrading and was immaculate. We ordered wor wanton which was tasty and brimming with shrimp, chicken, roast pork and crisp fresh vegetables including some fresh pea pods. The beef and broccoli was delicious, again, fresh vegetable including crisp carrots that were sublime. Crispy chicken was a treat. Pork fried rice was perfectly prepared. I totally miss the old Mings. Been going there since I was a little girl with my family. While the restaurant definately needed a makeover, the food was great and so was the price. I dont care much for the new food and was shocked at how little rice came with our lunch specials. Literally about 3 or 4 bites worth. I came in with my kids. 4 of them and had to ask for enough napkins and silverware for all of us. She didn't want to give me enough napkins and with kids we should have been given extra.
