I am surprised by some of the reviews, since we had a wonderful time. We did use a Groupon for 2 tastings, and it was a great deal. They had a fall special with so many fun choices. We started out being the only customers in the place, but quickly more people came in. The staff were very nice and personable. The drinks were decent size for tastings, a little less ice would have been better. Without the Groupon a tasting cocktail was $4.00. The sell the Gene Simmons from Kiss Money Bag, which is vodka. It is a unique collaboration. Located in close proximity to Minhas Brewery and the Minhas Winery. A fun stop to visit all three. read more

We were there yesterday from out of state to pick up their Apple Pie Moonshine we tried at a bar Illinois. We ended up staying for some drinks and games. The Customer service and hospitality was great! I wish they were closer we would definitely be back more frequently. I mean....sure. We had fun, so 3 stars. It is a little different though. And we weren't entirely sure on what to expect. First, the distillery shares the building with the Minhas Brewery and the Minhas Winery. It is your one-stop drank shop, if you will. We didn't know this ahead of time. My friend had just searched for a distillery near where we would be so we could visit. At the time, about a year ago, there were shirts or stickers of some kind proclaiming "I survived" all three in one day. And y'all....that is A LOT. We definitely witnessed some crying girls and someone breaking up with their boyfriend over the phone and some stumbling...just pace yourselves and be aware. Anyway, the distillery offers no tour. It isn't your traditional distillery visit. (Well, the website now says they offer tours. That was not an option when I visited.) We paid a small amount and that got us a certain number of tastings or small cocktails. You could either sample the spirit solo, or there were menus with various mixed drinks, organized by the spirit in them. I opted for a couple of each. The cocktails were tasty and it was an interesting way to do things, show you how to use their products. I don't know if I would return here. It wasn't really special enough, there wasn't a tour...it was more like a really brightly lit bar that you would visit during the day. Again, we had fun after a great day bopping around this area of Wisconsin. But it was not exactly what we expected and didn't totally live up to what we had hoped for. Monroe is a cute little town and the brewery and distillery are worth a stop in....if you are in town. It might not be worth a special trip just for the distillery, but if you are booze-hopping around the area or are driving through some country roads, certainly stop in. read more

First of all, go in knowing this isn't the high-brow best in the world liquors. Knowing this, buy a groupon, even if going solo. $12ish for two people to have three 12-ozish cocktails made in person by staff, with a fifth of liquor and glass in a gift bag to go home with, is a stellar deal. Thought we were going to the brewery, but veered into this distillery accidentally. Woman behind the counter was super rude and put off that we didn't have a reservation... there was not one other person in the place. It was 5 minutes past the hour and she recommended we make a reservation for the following hour. We did, as we thought the experience had potential. The TEN of us returned 50 minutes later for our reservation. Still we were the only patrons. The girl was extremely rude and short with all of us from the moment we purchased our tickets. She quickly went through the drink choices and proceeded to the bar area. She then barked at us to put our completed papers face down on the table. Three of us had questions and she did not answer one of them... she seemed annoyed and was unresponsive to anything out of her personal agenda. We actually felt like we were interrupting her day. As she finished our drink selections she shouted our names and told us to take our drink caddies. She put a video on and could care less about being engaging and offering customer service. After the videos completed she told us we could have a goodie bag. Again, zero customer service or any friendly flare. I hope she does a lot for this company behind the scenes because her people skills are probably hindering this business. I would never recommend this establishment, which is a shame since the brewery across the street was loads of fun. Together they could positively be a destination for a fun day... but not without serious changes. I have no idea the girl's name... Stopped this afternoon first at the brewery to pick up some beer then thought we would do a wine tasting. The wine room was not open but the clerk at the brewery told us to go to the Distillery and they could help us. I felt like we were interrupting their afternoon. The clerk at the register was just plain rude. The girl pouring wine was better but not by much... I had to ask questions about the wine. I purchased the four-person distillery tour Groupon for $20. I have been on quite a few brewery tours and I really wanted to switch it up and learn something new. For $5/person, I thought I'd found quite the deal. Well, the distillery itself is not actually active yet..which was the most disappointing part. The space they have right now functions more as a bottling/packaging plant and a storage unit. Their spirits are shipped in from other states to be bottled and labeled in Monroe and then packed onto pallets and shipped out again. So functionally, the Minhas distillery is just one point in a long conveyor belt of spirits from Iowa and Illinois to our Canadian neighbors. I thought the tour was disorganized and crowded (apparently they don't turn people away because some folks drive from Chicago JUST to see the distillery...quite unfortunate for them because there really isn't much to see). And the tour basically consisted of a video/slideshow shown in the front tasting room and then a walk around the packaging facilities in the back. While our tour guides were sweet, they seemed quite unexperienced and probably still have quite a bit to learn about the distilling business. I would have loved to hear from a more seasoned employee. Anyway, the best part of the whole deal was the unlimited tastings. I've never been to a spirit tasting before, but I assumed it would be a lot like beer tastings where you are given straight samples of the product. (Blech!) What I didn't expect was to be able to sample the alcohol with a range of different mixers, so that was pretty cool. Did I mention that we also EACH walked out with a gift pack consisting of a 750mL sample+souvenir glass?? That definitely sealed the $5/person Groupon deal. After entering a door with a "Tours" sign directly above it, we approached the bar and asked about a tour. The girl looked at us as if we just stepped off Mars. She said, "uh, we have tastings..." My husband tried to ask her a couple of questions and she had little to nothing to say but she had plenty of surly attitude. Then someone she knew walked in and she perked right up - for them. We asked if they had bourbon and after hearing they didn't, we left. Go to the brewery instead. The museum has a lot of interesting things to see, the tour isn't bad and the tasting isn't limited by number of drinks, but rather limited to a half hour. NOT A TOUR and NOT A DISTILLERY. If you can get past those two minor details, it's fine. We were in Monroe for the weekend and thought it would be interesting to visit a distillery for a tour. We've been on plenty of brewery tours, but never a distillery tour. When we arrived I asked the girl working the counter when the tour would start. She informed me that there was no tour but a video to watch. Okay. The video was about two minutes long and contained no actual information that could be construed as a tour. We received three drink tickets to try the different liquors that are produced by Minhas. I asked one of the bartenders how many of the items they had were actually produced in the building we were in. His answer: NONE! They do some blending and bottling in the building (allegedly), however the liquor is actually manufactured elsewhere. What about that big copper still in the next room over? Just decoration, they can't actually use it apparently for insurance purposes. The experience wasn't horrible. We bought our "tours" on Groupon, so only spent $11 for two tours (regular price: $12 each). Each of us got three drinks, a glass to take home, and a mini-bottle of paint thinner (labeled as vodka). I've spent $11 on less before. Bottom line, this place is really just a bar and for $5.50 each not a bad value. It's just not a tour and not a distillery. read more

Have you ever wondered where cheap, off brand liquor comes from? Me neither, but I found myself on the Minhas Distillery tour anyway. As of my visit, Oct 2013, there wasn't, nor had there ever been, anything distilled at this "distillery." Which makes it strange that you would boast about the size of your still. It was a beautiful contraption, but as it doesn't produce liquor, I don't really care. Needless to say there was little to no talk of how liquor is distilled. If you want to see a bottling line, this is totally your place! They bring liquor in from the Caribbean, Iowa and Canada water it down with sweet Monroe water and bottle it. When asked how the stacks of "Made in Wisconsin" stickers can technically be applied to such a bottle the tour guide replied she was not familiar with the law. That is certainly accurate and she was doing her best. Also proudly pointed out on the tour were the 55 gallon barrels of "whiskey type flavor" and other such nonsense. Getting to the point, for $10 you get a tour, two glasses (one of which was quite nice), and one bottle of vodka. I love a good cocktail but this liquor was HARSH. Not good. If you find yourself in Monroe with a few hours to kill, this isn't the worst thing that's ever happened, but it was really close. read more

100% worth the drive from Madison. Saw this on Groupon and thought it sounded like a good excuse to get out of Madison, little did we know how much fun it would be. I was expecting a typical distillery tour where you walk around, they explain how they make their stuff, you get to try a little bit of it, etc. etc. Minhas does things a little differently, they do a "tour through tasting", which if you ask me is all anyone wants when they sign up for a tour anyways. The ticket includes a glass, four cocktails, and a bottle of Cosmo to take home with you. There are four stations/bars that are divided up based on what liquors they have and you order based on their cocktail menu. They did a great job managing the crowds of rowdy guests and making delicious cocktails. Another huge plus is you can try a mini shot of any of the liquors they have (I highly recommend trying the apple pie moonshine and horchata or irish creme). If I lived closer I could see myself coming here regularly just to hang out and drink with friends- the atmosphere and energy was really lively and fun (i'm also obsessed with the bottle chandeliers). Another plus is they have wifi so if you're like me and have your groupon on your phone but can't download it because you're on "E," you're covered. read more

The tour was just of the packaging and what not, so not overall that great. Back again in 2016! Things kinda changed. Still wouldn't miss it for the world. I guess things have expanded and there isn't a "tour" that goes in the back and watches a video. You kinda just hang around the lobby area and try the different cocktails yourselves. They also have chocolates to munch on while you enjoy your drinks. You do go home with two free bottles of cosmo vodka. The girlfriend and I were the last ones to stumble out when the staff offered us to take home the remaining vodka bottles that people didn't remember to pick up. We obliged, of course. I'm not sure why everyone is knocking this place. Is it the best booze out there, not even close. However, it's good some good cream liquors and liquor for mixed drinks. They treat you awesome, with 4 mixed drinks, a souvenir glass, a demo, and a bottle of ready to drink booze... please tell me some other distillery that does that. None. And sadly, the ones in Milwaukee are sub par. They have some decent booze for some decent prices. And you can't go wrong with that. read more

I had been meaning to try this place and found a Groupon. There is a good short film which explains how the place got started. It is more like an informative tasting. There is no tour, which is fine im there to try the booze not walk around so that didn't bother me. Each person gets to try 4 mixed drinks, you get to keep the glass and each go home with a bottle of booze that cost me $8 for 2 people so I was very happy. What Minhas calls a "tour" was just a tasting of their very mediocre products from the distillery. We were there last week with a Groupon promotion. Gave everyone a bottle of their cheap house brand vodka made from their beer-making process. Pretty awful! The "tour" was just a talk by a guy in a messy warehouse room. We never got out of this room the whole time! He showed a video and gave sample drinks. This "tour" was 45 minutes late to start and wasted another 45 minutes of our time. When I contacted Minhas directly about this, they actually defended calling this a "tour." Not worth the time or money! read more

I am incredibly impressed by the marketing team of Minhas Micro Distillery. Whoever came up with this business idea was a genius. First of all, there is no tour and no education. You walk in to a crowded room with bottles of alcohol everywhere and 4 tasting stations. When you check in for your 'tour' they hand you a tasting glass and a menu of sugary mixed drinks that you can try. There is absolutely no information about the alcohol itself or the process involved in making it (by the taste of it, it might just be gasoline they siphoned out of a rusty old truck). Slightly confused I thought that maybe they would be telling us about the different spirits at the tasting stations. I waited about 10 minutes to get to the front of the line and the guy said "What do you want?" I said "Tell me about the different alcohols you have here." His response was "Whiskey, Rum and Brandy. What mixed drink do you want, I have 20 people in line waiting." So, we ordered one and shuffled on to the next station. We had very similar experiences at each station. No descriptions, just pick a mixed drink. Needless to say, we were disappointed that there was no tour and no education. Now let's talk about the quality of the drinks. Every drink we had was the absolute sweetest alcoholic drink I've ever tasted. And after convincing the staff to pour me small samples of just the alcohol by itself, I know why. Every single alcohol I tried was horrible. I don't mean it wasn't very good, I mean it was the absolute worst stuff I've ever tasted, and I'm not picky when it comes to hard alcohol. But here's why I'm impressed with the marketing team. They realized that a bunch of people in the middle of Wisconsin probably don't really care about what the liquor tastes like and they just want to get drunk. So, they pump them full of these sweet tasting mixed drinks which loosens up everyone's pocket books and gets them to buy overpriced basement shelf liquor. There were people buying cases of this stuff. I can only assume that they had dozens of dirty paintbrushes at home and they had run out of turpentine. Adding insult to injury they send you on your way with a bottle of something they call 'Cosmopolitan' which tastes like kool-aid with vodka mixed in. So, if you want to get tipsy on tooth-achingly sweet mixed drinks in a packed room of drunk people for $10, this tour is definitely for you. read more

Also had a Groupon and went for a Saturday afternoon tour. They say the max group size is 30 for a tour, but there were a total of 48 people on ours which ruined the experience, basically. There was not enough space to accommodate that size of group and it was impossible to hear the tour guide if you weren't right up front. I tossed in an extra star due to the alcohol samples (and drink variations) being quite good (after we skipped most of the tour and sampled instead). We'd like to go back and try it again as long as they get the kinks ironed out. read more

WE have done this tour several times, each time it gets less fun. No longer get to se the bottling line. Its a tasting not a tour anymore. The two guys working yesterday did not seem very friendly.nor interested in our experience there. WE always bring friends and family when they come to town for a tour, that may be a thing of the past. You cannot go wrong on this tour. Plan on spending the entire day. It is amazing to see where they started and to learn the history. The lines do not run on the weekend so go during the week if you want to see production. You can taste as much as you want and the gift pack includes a 750ml bottle of great vodka.
