Great Beer, Hard soda and pop selections and a fun tour, they even send you home with a nice glass a soda and two bottles of beer.

We've visited here so many times but this time the drinks were a definite miss. The surly bartender refused to mix anything special and said everything was prepared ahead. My Bloody Mary was disgusting and I couldn't drink it. The only garnish was a humongous dill pickle slice and the drink tasted only of pickle juice and black pepper. He spent a crazy amount of time playing with the tv remote and ignored everyone. So many guest were complaining to each other. One lady came over to ask us about the cocktail flight flavors because he ignored her too. The only highlight was the guy playing guitar and they tucked him in the back. Such a shame. He was very talented. We were planning to come back in October when they open the new pizza restaurant across the street but not sure if it's worth a stop anymore. Very disappointed. read more

This whole Minhas compound is actually a fun idea. There's a restaurant, distillery and craft brewery all in the same area but different buildings. You can walk from building to building for tasting's and experiences. I saw a few groups walking from place to place having a great time. For anyone who remembers grandpa drinking Huber beer, here's where it came from. The brewery choices are ok. Nothing that I felt was memorable. Theres a beer museum in the basement with memorabilia and worthy of a trip down memory lane. People in there were friendly, both bartenders and natives. It was a fun time and that's why the trip was great. Don't expect great beer, but do plan on a fun time. read more

Cool place in Monroe, Wisconsin. We had a nice time in their tap room trying the beer offerings, shopping in the gift shop, touring the Beer Memorabilia Collection, and grabbing some beer to go. Super low prices on beer to go. Mix your own 6-pack was only $5. Bar server was very generous with the samples. We didn't do the brewery tour because our timing was of but it sounds like a great deal also. Check Groupon for tour deals. I learned that the brewery has a long and interesting history. They claim it's the second oldest brewery in the United States behind Yuengling. Great place to visit. read more

Drove an hour south to Monroe to thr 2nd oldest brewery in the nation. Lots of street parking. Showed my groupon and was given 20 minutes for all you can sample. There's a sheet of beer (draft and cooler) selections on the counter. Our fav were chocolate bunny stout and apple ale. Least fav was boxer watermelon as it tasted like cough medicine. Also had the mango CBD flavored water and it was ok. Admission for under 12 is free and they got 5 types of sodas for tasting. We like black cherry the most. Friendly bartender and only wished it was a little more time as there was a group of 8 sharing the same time slot with one bartender. read more

While passing through Monroe we popped in on a weekday afternoon not knowing what to expect. We thought it was just a store for the brewery. This was not only one big store with beers and beer paraphernalia of all sorts but a great little museum and multiple tasting rooms/ restaurant. I was really impressed by the basement museum room. It was small but it was filled with great memorabilia. I know there were more museum rooms that I did not get a chance to view. I want to come back post-Covid and do a tasting and eat here too. I want to spend more time looking at the other museum displays. This was a great surprise and I want to spend more time here. read more

I don't know how I haven't written a review for Minhas yet- but this is one of my all time favorite breweries to visit. Odds are you've seen a deal on groupon, but even if you don't get a groupon, it's totally worth it. The tour - we've done this each year we've come back, with the exception of this year. It's interesting and you move through different parts of the production. It's not too much walking, but there are stairs involved - so keep this in mind if you aren't able bodied. The real star of this experience is the 20 minutes all you can taste challenge.. oops I mean the end of the tour. Make your way through the list with your new Minhas taster glass & you'll find yourself feeling pretty good. Before we leave, we always stock up on some beer because it is SO CHEAP. I love this place & look forward to coming back every year. read more

We arrived at noon. We were greeted by Jenna, who was very friendly. She explained how the tours worked. We had our friend from Germany with us and she took extra care to be sure his beer had a big head on it (like they do i Germany). An hour later we were pleasantly surprised to have her as out tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the brewery history and operations - answering all our questions. What an awesome stop! Such friendly bartenders and a huge selection. If you can't find something that you like you're not a beer drinker. Great venue with several museum exhibits worth spending time looking through. Used a Groupon for Minhas brewery tour for a fun afternoon with my cousins. We had a great time! It was very inexpensive ($12 is the regular price for the brewery tour). We started off with a sample beer of our choosing and were shown a short video about the history of the brewery and the brewing process. The tour took us through several different buildings, including the bottling/canning rooms. A word of warning - it was a hot day when we decided to do the tour and it is extremely warm in some of these rooms due to the equipment! Also, one part of the tour involved going up and down a rather narrow staircase, so if you have mobility issues, maybe try the winery or the distillery tour! These buildings are 150 years old and it was really interesting to learn about the history of the brewery, including that it was open and operating during prohibition! We finished the tour with another tasting where we were able to sample a ton of different beers and hard sodas, everyone found something they liked! After the tour you can stay for food and drinks or take a walk through the gift shop and purchase your favorite beers to take home. 7/1 The prices are so awesome here, we've decided to make (at least) one return trip per year for a beer run. We took the tour last year, so this year we just grabbed a cart and started shopping. We got a case of Huber Bock for $7.65 and some 24-ounce single cans of Crunk (similar to Mike's or a flavored Smirnoff Ice) for 99 cents. I got some more of my favorite Hard Root Beer by Rhinelander -- so, so good. The staff is happy and friendly and more than willing to answer questions or check for additional stock. If you spend more than $60, you get 10% off. The parking is limited, but there is plenty of street parking and we just wheeled our cart right out to the car. :) Totally worth the drive - fantastic place! read more

Still a full fledged five stars, no doubt about it. I picked up brewery tour tickets off Living Social some time ago, two for $10. The tour alone is worth $5/person, but it gets a whole lot better. In addition to a great tour led by someone who had a profound knowledge of the brewery and its history, we got to sit in their tasting area not once, but twice and drink as much as we liked. The tour guide explained that Minhas was the United States second oldest brewery which included a look at every part of their facility, including a two-sided packaging room that looks like the warehouse scene at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. We sampled about five beers and one of their liquors. Add a couple of their soda's to the mix as well. Each is decent to above average, including a new selection on their menu which was inspired by an actual brewery fire in November 2013 called 'Fire Brewed Red Ale'. Catchy way to take the high road on a potential disaster! Upon your departure from the tour you're given a 5-pack of free beer which includes one of their soda's. The 6th spot is reserved for the free glass they give you. Just one hell of a classy move. If you want to take a WORLD CLASS brewery tour this is it. Not five star...MORE! If you are reading this review it means you've made an excellent decision. You're thinking of visiting Minhas brewery. Lets make a long story short. Do it. $10 bucks gets you unlimited beer for 30 minutes, a free 6 pack and a glass to take home. I've never done the tour, but I've done the 30 minute sample a couple times. Even if you don't drink, the soda here is awesome and they have popcorn. The bar is cool, tons of beer memorabilia gives this place a fun vibe. After your sample take home all the beer you can fit in your car at a cheap price. They make a lot of beer here for sale all over the place. My friends & I had a Groupon for a tour of Minhas. We went to the 11am tour on a Saturday. It was packed, but the tour guides split us in to two groups which helped ease the "cattle herd" feeling as we made our way through the brewery. Our guide was admittedly a little rusty on her facts because she hadn't given a tour in over a month, but despite a few stumbles the information she shared with us was generally informative & fascinating. I had no idea this place brewed beers for places like Trader Joe's! In fact, they brew so many beers that last year they were the 10th larger brewing outfit in the country. We were given a six pack sampler & a glass with the cost of the tour which is an amazing value. The sampler pack included some of their root beer which I appreciated because I really wanted to try some of that! The beers themselves are not any that I would go out of my way to purchase, but it was pretty awesome that we could get as many pours as we wanted before & after the tour. Most places (like New Glarus) limit your samples. It would have been cool to see the bottling line in action, but of course the weekday tours are the only ones where you can see the brewery running live. Another touch that I loved was the decor. Despite being owned by Canadians, this place has kept to Bavarian-like decorations in its sample hall which is awesome. It's very cute & cozy! (Free popcorn is a nice touch, too.) If you're in the area, or want a quick day trip from Chicago, then this place is certainly worth the stop. Oh, & although the tours are family friendly, I'd suggest making sure your kids are old enough to keep quiet & keep their hands to themselves. We had some little criers & screamers on our tour which really ruined the experience. So annoying! read more

Minhas is less than an hour from my house, but I've never visited it before. I hit 12 breweries a year and I've always passed them by mainly because I'm not a fan of their beer. Minhas started advertising in my home town with billboards and finally I read were they were one of the top ten brewery tours in the nation. So I figured I really should go give them a chance. We went last Saturday for the 1pm tour. We showed up around 12:45 PM. The place was packed. It was so crowded we had to fight to get through the sample room to buy tickets for the tour. I believe part of this is a temporary problem because they are doing some construction. So keep this in mind if you go, it can get really busy. After buying our tickets, they handed out free samples of the beer they brew. They had a large selection to try from, I'd suggest getting there as early as possible for the tour you want, take advantage of the free samples. The tour started with a video about the brewing process and about some of the beers they brew. They owners talk about their passion for beer and the history of the brewery. After the video the tour of the brewery starts. They show you all the equipment, talk history of the building and about the brewery. They explain how they do things there, how they bottle and can. After the tour you are given a free sampler of beer that had 4 of their beers in it and one of their sodas. Then it's back to the sample room for more unlimited free samples. All of this for $10.00. After the tour I kept wondering, why is this tour rated one of the top ten in the nation? They really didn't go over the brewing process in any great detail like your average brewery. They did give you more of the history on the old brewery... There really wasn't anything all that special about this brewery tour... EXCEPT you get a lot of free beer. You definitely get your $10.00 worth of beer for the price of the tour. Now, I'm not a fan of Minhas' beer, even some of the ones they contract out to make, I did find a couple I thought were okay when I was abusing my unlimited free samples. So keep that in mind when I say that I'd take other people here for the tour. Oh, and the parking is kind of a nightmare, especially if they are really busy. read more

Minhas is located in Monroe in southwestern Wisconsin. It is a beautiful little town and with the fall-like weather, we could not resist a visit, We are SO GLAD we did. We also had a groupon deal. Their slogan is DAMN GOOD BEER. We were so surprised at the age of the brewery (family history), the selection and how large the distribution was. Well worth 45 minutes of your time. The best part was all of the beer samples, popcorn and the excellent gift shop. So much beer, so little time. I hope you enjoy it. We are going back this weekend just to visit the gift shop to pick up some little beer chaser minis that are perfect to serve with bloody marys. read more

I loved the stories our guide told on our tour. She was very good and animated, entertaining. I forgot her name unfortunately. We went on a Saturday at 11am and our group was fairly small. It looked like the next tour, at 1pm, would be very large, so go early. Surprised me they only have one brew kettle. That one kettle sure gets alot of use tho. One of the stories was about "Huber's Law", when Huber would borrow the prisoners from the very near by jail to work daily at the brewery and then return to jail each nite. Another good one was the one with Al Capone kidnapping Blumer and holding him for ransom for selling alcohol to Chicago speakeasies during prohibition. Crowding in on Capone's action, so to speak. The museum rooms were fun to tour, i love old beer memorabelia. They used to make a good beer here about 10 yrs ago, it was called Huber Red Bock Winter Ale. This was a fun tour! read more

Loved this place! First, they've got an nice deal on a tour/tasting package. If you don't want the tour, or don't have time, you can get the same deal. That deal, tastings, a sampler pack, and a glass. Can't beat it! During the tastings, the young lady serving us was great. Friendly, engaging, really nice. She understood the beer and the brewery. She even took the time to recommend a nice place for lunch and wrote directions for us. After the tasting, spent some time talking with the guy who monitors quality for the facility. Really knowledgeable about beer, brewing, and the brewery. He was familiar with many of the breweries we had visited and even took the time to recommend several for our ride through Wisconsin. Good guy! The beers were good and plentiful, and enjoyed the sampler pack we got. Overall, great fun. Turned out to be the best brewery we visited while we were in Wisconsin. read more

Although a slight trek from Madison, this brewery is a gem for sure and most definitely worth the drive! This has been the most interesting brewery tour I have been on yet! The $12 tour fee is a steal for what you get! We went on a Groupon which was 2 tours for $12; so, if they're running that, I highly recommend purchasing, though I would gladly have paid $12 for this tour. The tour starts with an interesting short video showing the history of the brewery. From there, you are shown some of the inner workings of the brewery. After that, you're taken inside the canning area where you get to see the conveyor belts in action. Our tour guide, Rachel, even popped 2 beers off the line for us to try a taste of unpasteurized beer. It was quite the experience! On the final portion of the tour, they give you a souvenir in the form of a 6 pack box filled with 4 beers and one of their sodas, which leaves a slot in the for your tasting glass to take home. If you're not a drinker, they offer a soda-only box. The beers and soda are already pre-selected; so, you don't get a choice, but I felt my pack had a good variety. Before the tour starts/during the video, they give a full pour of any of their draft beer, but you have to finish it before the video ends since no beer is allowed on the tour (they warn you about this). After the tour, they allow you 30 minutes to sample ANYTHING on their menu! One of my favorites was the hard root beer float. It was so creamy and delicious. In other words, super dangerous because they would go down way too fast if I had a 6 pack in front of me! If you get there early, buying a beer while you wait is super cheap (only $3 per beer - you have to buy tickets for the beer at the front counter) and they even have different beer cocktails you can try! If you'd rather not drink before the tour, they also have an awesome gift shop to check out with really fun and unique items (note that there is a $10 minimum to use credit cards; so, be prepared to spend that much at least if you do not have cash on you) or you can check out the beer history museum, which I highly recommend. The most interesting piece of the beer museum for me was the downstairs with all the vintage tappers, logos, and various branding information. I would love to check it out a bit further next time. If you complete the trifecta (brewery, winery, and distillery visits), you get 50% off of the shirt for it. Thankfully, you do not have to complete all 3 in one day (but you can if you'd like!). Have you noticed how every great modern brewery has one quality, hallmark beer? Like Fat Tire to New Belgium, Boston Lager to Samuel Adams, 60-minute IPA to Dogfishhead and, Wis-locally, Spotted Cow to New Glarus? Well Minhas Brewery of Monroe, Wisconsin has a hallmark beer too. It's called Lazy Mutt (perhaps Boxer), but I'd more accurately dub it "fermented head cheese drippings lightly carbonated by the farts of a thousand cabbage-gorged greyhounds." Yeah, it's delicious stuff. Right up there with chicha--the Amazonian alcoholic drink created by chewed and spat casava root. Left in a bowl for a few days, the salivary enzymes convert the casava sugars into alcohol and next thing you know ... w00t!! There's a party all up in the rainforest!! Am I bein' a little harsh here? Yes? Good. I meant to be. Minhas Brewery of Monroe is an embarrassment to Wisconsin's burgeoning craft brew industry. The fact that they call themselves a "craft" brewery is a sham. In fact, the only reason I think it's called Minhas CRAFT Brewery is because the marketing firm misheard the actual adjective used to describe the brewery. Here's a few of their finely formulated brews: Axelhead Malt Liquor (11% ABV), Thunderbolt Malt Liquor (10%) and their "entry-level malt liquor" Perfect 10. Ideal for lightweight malt liquor drinkers at between 7.1% and 8.6% ABV. I particularly like that Minhas's website calls it an "entry-level malt liquor" and that the ABV varies by up to 1.5%. In other words, "We messed up. We don't know what the heck is in this stuff!" (Related: see my description of chicha above.) And for the ladies in the house, I'd be remiss if I didn't let you know about Minhas' intoxicating fruit-flavored malt liquor beverages. That's right, the same alcohol by volume as regular Axelhead available in Watermelon, Black Cherry and Fruit Punch flavors. Dudes. Get your ladies to drink a couple of these and you gonna have some fine action tonight! "Okay, Mike. We get it. You don't like their products, but what about the brewery?" Fair question. The Minhas Brewery IS old. In fact, it's the second oldest brewery in the United States next to Yuengling & Son Brewery of Pottsville, Pennsylvania. A tidbit that should make the brewery an interesting place to visit, except there's two kinds of old: GOOD old and BAD old. Minhas is described best by the latter. It's an enfeebled and ramshackle facility. All the clever marketing cannot disguise what's really going on here: two young and industrious Canadians--Ravinder and Manjit Minhas--are wringing every last penny out of the tired old brewery. They wouldn't know a good beer if Sam Calagione and Jim Koch sat on their chests and poured it down their esophaguses. This might sound like an odd way to judge beer, but all the beer lovers I know would pay good money for this experience! So when you're traveling around lovely southern Wisconsin, resist the temptation to throw $10 at the self-proclaimed "Best brewery tour in the USA." That same Hamilton will buy you a good beer and a braunschweiger sandwich in the same town. In fact, leave the change and you'll be known in these parts as a big tipper! read more

If it's not broken, then don't fix it!!!! WTF has happened to the beers at Minhas??? Seriously. First, they re-named all the already perfect Berghoff beers. Then they changed the art work on the bottles. Now, they are messing with the beer formulas!! I do not approve of their crappy excuse for beer. My favorite Red Ale now tastes like a shitty Coors Lite. No no no no nooo!! A generous 2 stars because their Blumer's root beer is tasty. Skip the tour. Trust me. Its extremely boring. Plus, they are so crowded, unless you're front and center, you're not going to hear or see anything the tour guide is talking about. Just go into the gift shop and buy some beer with the $10 you saved by SKIPPING THE TOUR. The beer I had (Oktoberfest) was pretty good, but I'll probably never order it of I saw that it was an option. I'm just so meh about this place. I really like the town of Monroe though. read more

We LOVE this place! My husband likes beer and I do not, but we love to come here because they have the best hard sodas around! The tour is great, but if you don't want the whole tour you can just have the tasting. (we've taken the tour three times and it's always good!) I hope you get Katie because she's the best! We took a girls' trip here on Valentines Weekend (just the tasting) and had two in our group that wanted to learn more about beer and she was great. Look people...this brewery has never pretended to be a high end craft brewery. If you want high end and fancy, go north a few miles to New Glarus. This place is one of the oldest breweries in the US and brews basic beers, a couple of higher ends and does a lot of contract brewing. They have a decent tour and for $10 a real bargain for what you get. And across the street they recently opened a distillery. So if the unlimited samples aren't enough, go get a shot or two before you leave. If you're in the area, it's a "must stop" in my opinion. read more

This is an old school brewery that is as old as it gets, located in down town Monroe Wi, just off the historic square. Allow at least 1.5 hours to fully enjoy the tour as well a expierance lots of locally brewed favorates. After that spend some time in Monroe's shopping district! We decided to make a weekend getaway to Monroe and New Glarus. And I must say that Minhas is such a fantastic place to visit. The tour consists of watching a short video about the brewery while enjoying a sample of one of their beer as well as free popcorn. Then their guide takes you out to the brewery and gives a great tour. Once it's over you head back to the lounge and have 30 minutes to sample most all of their beer. As you leave they give you a 5 variety pack of beer as well as a souvenir glass. The store is packed with their beer, really well made clothes, and other accessories. The prices are ridiculously cheap. They should really have more carts because mostly everyone was making multiple trips to their car with handfuls of beer. This was a really great place to visit, not just for the tasting but getting to see how the delicious beer is made and to buy as well. We'll be definitely coming back. read more
