This rating is mainly on their prices and lack of service. As one other person stated, prices are very high. The store is also very cramped. The young girl that works there has the personality of a wet noodle. No one greats you as you walk in. I have been here many times not even a Hello. I asked them to grate some Mezthri cheese. The young girl says they don't do that with a straight non expressive face. She mentions they have grated cheese in the frig in the back. We are aware of the VER SMALL packs which have no packed date or exp date on them. My husband asks the man do they have a grater. He replies yes. However he doesn't do it for the customers. I wanted the large ball to be grated and not the pre grated very small bags. I explained to him I wanted it fresh. His reply is they are fresh. Poor reply, poor customer service. Even Caputos will grate it for you if they have it in stock. I am Greek and most Greeks especially in business are welcoming. They need a lesson in this 1,000 times over. I bought the two tiny packs only because I was in the area. Will not be back to this store...I will travel a little bit further if need be. If I need Greek ingredients I go to Minos foods .I can usually get what I need. But they are not always happy smiling people. But it's ok , if they have what you need For your recipes. They also have some hot foods, Spanakopita olives, Greek salads . They have the best taramousalota I have had .Thus alone is worth the trip, I come from aurora just to have this ! I've always been curious about Minos Imported Foods. The marquee in front always posts things like--don't forget your lamb for the weekend--or something like that. I love Greek food, but I'd have no idea for what to buy or where to start. I need a Yia Yia stat! The shop may look small from the outside, but inside it's chock full of Greek and other European goods. I kick myself for not giving myself enough time to browse more, but what I found so far will ensure future visits again and again. I saw so many different kinds of olive oil, honey, fresh olives, and hunks of Feta. There's ready-to-take-home fresh bread and other pastries that are made on site . There's a prepared foods aisle, a frozen section and liquor aisle. My take home that day, Cevapi to be grilled, pita bread, tzatziki, baklava and Greek beer. Add some sliced onions and tomato and I made a heckuva lunch on the fly. It was quiet the day I visited (mid day, midweek) I can just imagine it's hopping on other days, especially when folks come in to get their lamb for the weekend! read more

Mino's is an itty bitty, hidden Greek food store selling all things imported from Greece... You can find various cuts of fresh lamb or you can have them cook it for you. Having a pig roast party? Why not have Mino's roast it for you? Cause they can & will... Looking for fillo dough? They have every thickness you need for your Baklava or Spanikopita. The imported Feta here is fabulous, and they carry domestic as well. There is certainly a difference in Mino's feta versus Caputo's.....don't settle. I needed to find ground lamb for making burgers, and Mino's came to the rescue! Homemade spinach pies, fresh breads and pita, Greek pastries, excellent olive oils, fresh olives, good assortment of frozen specialties & meats and Greek wines! .... what more could you ask for in a Greek specialty store? Loved visiting this store. A great selection and fantastic prices. But the best of the best was the homemade Portokalopita (Orange Cake). It was perfect (better than what my Greek Mother-in-law made - but don't tell anyone that I said that!). I visited the place for the first time and being Greek was excited to check it out. First, the store is a combination of few Polish and mostly Bulgarian and Croatian items with some Greek options. This was not the disappointing thing. The customer service or straight the lady who is by register sucks. She's rude, intimidating, condescending so much ! She does not even thank you for the business. It's like she's doing you a favor. I was there with a child and he even felt it. She basically dumped everything into one bag and I had to repack it, otherwise my chocolate treats and wafers would have been smashed by a few large jars I got. You would think she said something then or helped, nope she did not care just continued to talking to the other associate. If she's the owner I can't believe it. If your looking for a good leg of lamb, come to Mino's. This is my favorite little greek grocery store. My mom has been coming here for years to get her supplies for all our Holiday dinner's. Fabulous fresh ingrediants and meat, and a great selection on Greek wines and vodka's. They also carry a variety of pastry's. They aren't too bad in price seeing everything is imported. Usually stores will raise the prices due to their shipping costs. But not Mino's! I ordered many different types of honey imported from Greece via their website. Because they were heavy, I had them shipped to me from IL in the least expensive manner. I still received everything within two days. Their service was prompt and I was very glad to be able to get these rare honey types here in the US. Their website needs to be updated because many image links are broken but I still gave them five stars because of their products and quick and accurate service. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to Minos. We frequent their other stores, Brookhaven in Darien and Burr Ridge. Nobody follows you around like they do at Minos. I walked in the other day with my mother and sister and the girl working the counter (which wasn't Greek by the way) was following us down every aisle. It's not a big place, aisles are so crammed and narrow so it was obvious she was watching us. They over charge you upon checking out. When we asked for the Baklava she said it was $2.99 a piece, we got four. When checking out she rang it up as $3.49 each. The flag we purchased was $2.99, she rang it in as $3.99. She got a little snippy when we mentioned the wrong prices. We only spent $103 dollars in the place and were followed as if we were shoplifting. read more

We were on a mission to pick up roasted lamb for Easter, so didn't have nearly as much time as I'd have like to explore every nook and cranny of the store. Minos is a great little grocery store that has many hard to find items that complete the offerings found in a typical Greek kitchen. It's my favorite place for a variety of Greek cheeses. They have ready to go frozen dishes that can save you hours of cooking. It's a bit of a drive for me, but worth the trip. Even if I didn't plan to buy something in particular, I stop by if I'm in the area. I never leave empty-handed. read more

I have been visiting this Minos Store for years but had bad experience today 1/31. There was no one in store when i got there, i said hello, hello a few times and finally after 10 min this guy (light red hair/glasses, greek) came in from outside looked like he was taking trash out. i said need some cheese 2.5 lbs, he washed his disposable gloves rather than tossing them but since they looked dirty , i said can you please use new gloves which are about 2 cents, he got mad and cussed in greek . he did not know i'm greek and said "i have to deal with this PRI$& this early in the morning" and he threw his gloves down. i said i dont want anything and walked out. very rude and health dept should check this place out" I will never go back. i called back after i left and asked for the owner , the same guy said he's gone for 10 days i'm running place. read more

Great little store! I worked for several years down in Greek Town, and this little place is as good as any of the stores down there. They have an excellent selection of wines, the bread and cheeses are great, and for such a small store, they have a nice selection of pastries. Their taramosalata is outstanding! Our Easter Lamb was not good and was embarrassed when it was served... She ordered a whole cooked lamb, and was very disappointed. Did not want it to be sliced or cut, but they did cut it up and it looked as if they cut it with a chain saw. It was all bones and no meat for $300.00 , it was a mess and not appetizing when served. They called to explain nicely to them of the experience, and they yelled back. I really felt bad for the party hostess that bought the lamb. read more

Very dishonest online sellers.I am god knows not a picky buyer but I absolutely hate dishonesty I ordered from this store through ebay. I ordered Milka chocolate and they send me the wrong item. Once I contacted them, they told me that they would refund me in full including the return shipping (as it was their mistake to send me the wrong item.in the first place) They never refunded me back for the return shipping and just stoped responding to my emails. The fresh bread and cheeses are great. He has so many items from the Mediterranean that if he really wanted he could run a great business. On the flip side it feels like he's doing YOU a favor by being in his store. Not rude but unfriendly, not mean but kinda short. Definitely would go more if I felt more welcome. Maybe add some cooked food? Every grocery has it now cuz everyone's so busy. But all in all an ok place to go to if you want a few specialty items you can't drive into the city for. read more
