On my 16th birthday almost 52 years ago I was hired at Jewel. "Go out and get carts" I was told. So, in 4 inches of a not plowed parking lot, I pushed one cart at a time to the store. I know it is a union store and have no issue with that. I do have an issue with high prices. I've written a few times to the feedback (and never get a reply) for Seniors to receive a discount delivery such as people on Welfare. Most Seniors BUILT Jewel back before it was J/O, yet they are second when it comes to discounted service which would be so helpful. Therefore, I only go for the U-Deals and that is it otherwise I go to Walmart which offers 50% off their yearly fee of $96. I try not to go to Walmart either, so I go to the local Hispanic food stores for most of the foods I eat and I am a gringo. I may take up fishing or hunting and get my own fish or meat. read more

Best time of day is to go in the morning when everything is fresh and clean, later on the store gets pretty hectic. 3/5 because people as in workers tend to have a starring problem. This worker (male) kept passing me by this one time I went to go get groceries and made me very uncomfortable. If you'd like the Best Kept Secret for getting wedding flowers, go to JEWEL OSCO, and I specifically recommend HOLLY, who works at this location (343 W. Irving Pk. Rd., Addison). Holly not only enjoys doing wedding flowers, she does an absolutely FLAWLESS, beautiful job and a price incredibly reasonable. She met with the bride (our daughter) in Feb. '23 and at that time received all of our daughter's requirements. She then put together an example of the type of flowers that would look best and would be in season for the wedding (Oct. '23) day. My daughter was thrilled! Holly did every arrangement for her, from the arrangements on 18 guest tables, bride's bouquet, 8 bridesmaid's bouquets, 11 men's boutonnieres, those that were placed on the wedding vow canopy and all of the moms and aunt corsages. Every single flower came fresh and beautiful; the arrangements were exquisite and OMG, we saved so much money. On the day of the wedding our wedding planner picked up the order and delivered it to the venue. Food products are of great quality. The wine selection is fantastic. Very wide selection in all areas! Fruits and vegetables are good transparent wide roads convenient shopping even with a shopping cart! What I was looking for was everything I found in good quality. It's a smaller, weird shaped Jewel but the kicker to making this a REAL crappy store is the pharmacy. I have had my share of poor pharmacy staff, but this one rules above all others. I tried to get my son's prescription filled there, and this short, bitter pharmacy tech goes, "yeah, we don't have that." Not, we don't have that in stock and we would have to order it, just an..."nah, we don't have that! Now if you don't mind, please take that piece of paper away...it's grossing me out!" So I went to the other Osco who filled the prescription and, YES! had to call and order to get the entire prescription filled. I mentioned that the Osco on Lake St refused to fill the script. The manager of the pharmacy was quite interested and called the Lake St store. The pharmacy tech claimed she meant she didn't have the medication, not that she refused to fill the script. The pharmacist explained that by her refusing to fill the script could be taken as an illegal action by refusing an insurance or discrimination. The last I heard was that she was going to get "re-trained", whatever that meant. Anyway, it's one of the only Jewels that still has self-checkouts. Most of them have been phased out. I'm sure there are some great people there, just unfortunately, the poor ones outweigh the good. read more

Just wanted to give a shout-out to Laura, in the Floral Dept., at the Jewel-Osco, in Addison, IL. This is the second time that Laura has helped me with wedding floral needs. My daughter was having a rustic themed wedding reception and I went to Laura with the Red Buffalo Plaid Mason jars we wanted to use for centerpieces. She immediately suggested red roses, baby's breath, and evergreens. Not only did she suggest the flowers, but also told me the best way to arrange in 3's. Because of her expertise, I had enough flowers to make 36 centerpieces, with some evergreens left over to decorate the buffet and dessert table. She also made my daughter the most beautiful bouquet with red and white roses, greens, and red berries. I just don't like this Jewell. If you have five minutes to spare go to the Jewell on Irving Park Rd. The only thing I like is their deli dept for chicken fingers and wings. Honestly, the best part about this Jewell is that there is a Portillo's in the same parking lot and Harry's Ice Cream down the side walk. Some of the staff are nice, but they still only get one star. I wish zero stars was an option. Peace! 20-May-2014 update: there seems to be something very wrong with how the deli dept is managed. Nobody working there was getting along, and two women were yelling at each other about when they were taking breaks, who was going to clean what, yadda yadda yadda. Have gone to this jewel many times , have had an okay experience. My latest experience is triggering this review. I went to the deli counter to pick up some stuff , waited a minutes as the lady behind the counter was busy cleaning a machine. Not knowing how long it would take, I decided to say hello and get her attention. She came and said she needs to get a call before she can help which she did but went back to cleaning her equipment. 2 other customers came by and left within this time period. I also decided to ditch the purchase as I had been waiting there for a few minutes and the lady was clearly saying her "other" duties are more important. We all have other duties in our jobs but don't let this impact your customers, we have other places we can shop. This is not only place to get groceries. read more

This is the closest Jewel-Osco to my home, but I will definitely travel out of my way to go to another Jewel on a regular basis. This Jewel misses the mark in many facets. From the layout to the product selection to the employees, it just doesn't have any extra oomph to it. There is literally nothing that makes me WANT to go to this Jewel. Since I rarely shop this location, it makes it even harder to shop when I am there. Locating products is difficult, there are multiple fridges in different areas, nothing in just one place. They have less diverse products to offer than my preferred Jewel. I feel like searching for specifics here is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I never go here just to shop, I only stop in if I'm in the area and there's a desperate need. Other things I've noticed: the freezers are always iced over, which is not good for their products. The produce section is lacking in options, and often looks bare. I'm not sure if I pick the wrong times to shop at this location or if they never seem to have products. They don't have the same options that other stores have. Plus the feel of this location is just outdated. The one thing I do like is how close it is, so when I'm in a bind I will go there, but if I need to spend time to get all my groceries, this is the last location I'd go to. read more

They can't carry your favorite water, vegetable or even a meat & seafood counter, because THEY HAVE NO ROOM FOR IT. I don't get it? With the remodel they did awhile back, what did they accomplish? They could of taken more space next door (which was an option at the time). OR why not move to the lot where Dominick's used to be? It's only been empty FOREVER...just makes this town look sad. This store is disgusting!!!!! There is rotting produce on the floor and a foul oder throughout the store. Went to the deli for lunch meat ant to my surprise nobody was wearing hair nets or gloves. I watched as the young man slicing my turkey repeatedly removed the baseball cap to wipe his forehead then returned to slicing my turkey with his sweat soaked hands. When I asked him to slice new turkey after putting on glove he said they were busy and there was no time for that. This Jewel is pretty bad. Some of the Jewel's have started to remodel & stock their shelves better to try & be on a level playing field with Mariano's but this one is definitely not one of them. First the parking lot here is a mad house. That is not the stores fault & in no way reflects my rating but it should be said. I walked in here & walked to deli area. I asked them where I could find pretzel bread. The lady behind the counter rudely replied "You should look in the bakery". Well I have never been to this store & I didn't know where the bakery was so I just went & found it my self since the employee seemed very inconvenienced by my question. I finally made it to the bakery & when I asked for pretzel bread they seemed like it was such a weird item I was asking for. They told me that they only had them frozen. This obviously didn't work for me so I just went to grab chips. Mariano's & Caputo's have fresh baked bread daily including pretzel buns & this place had a very limited selection. Walking through the store I noticed that not only was it very outdated but it seemed dirty. Overall this Jewel was one of the worst I have been too. The service was not that good & the selection was very limited. I would try to avoid this Jewel unless absolutely necessary. read more

This place went to $%^$. I grew up and still live in Addison. 15 years ago this store was nice and the only place we shopped. Now it's dirty and they barely carry anything. Produce section is so small. I went there recently on my way home for the first time in a while. Thought I would pick up something easy for dinner. Walked out with a loaf of bread and green beans. Heck to the no. We have a Jewel closer to us, but there is plenty else in this area to like, so I've stopped in a few times .... but I don't want to go back. It's small. It's very crowded and cramped. It's badly laid out -- I can't find anything! The produce is, to borrow Stefanie's word, shameful. Granted, I have never been impressed with any Jewel's produce. But this place's is especially bad. And, as is typical for a Jewel, almost everything is overpriced. Don't be tempted. This is my neighborhood Jewel it has both pros and cons.. employees are either ver friendly or agitated, the meat I have bought her has been bad a couple of times.. tbey do have food items that other stores do not carry, one major con is their prices are Astronomical they are always more money then any grocery store in the area.. I guess thats what you have to deal with for convenience.. but for the most part the store is always clean.. just wish quality Control was better with their meat and produce. Avoid like the plague! In a word: AWFUL. Where do I even begin? I've been living in Addison a few years now and this is my closest local jewel. It's cramped, smells funny, has little to no produce selection, has very small product selection, and is very difficult to find anything due to the maze-like layout. I've always not liked this jewel for these reasons but we still shop there for quick items and beer/alcohol in particular. More to the point of why I HAVE to never ever recommend anyone shopping here EVER.....about a week ago my husband stopped here on a quick beer run. He got a six pack of blue moon and a six pack of miller fortune for me. I noticed the date on the bottle was labeled as 8/2014 but thought nothing of it. Upon drinking it, I noticed it tasted wrong. Too bitter and "skunky" aka it was off and left a bad taste in my mouth. My husband brought the 6 pack back after dumping what was left of my beer and mentioned it to the sales reps. They argued with him and said it was the brew date. Ok, sure, possibly. My husband went to the case, pulled out somewhere around 5 cases of it (with the same date) and found one with a labeled date of January 2015. My husband asks "is this supposed to be brewed in the FUTURE by your logic??" They exchanged the packs and we went home. Tonight I go here to pick up a 12 pack and pull out 5 cases of august 14 dates. I was pretty agitated by this and asked to speak to a manager. The cashier who called the manager for me told me they've had regular problems with expiration dates on alcohol before and that most of the mixers they sell are obviously expired just by the appearance. He said he often hears complaints from customers about this but is just reprimanded by management when he says anything to them on the subject. The manager was an unhappy woman who once again tried to feed me the BS "brewed on date" nonsense and I explained to her that I used to sell beer and alcohol so I know that's not true. She then blamed the miller representative. Before I departed I told her she needs to manage her store and products better. Ps - I've gotten other products from here, box items like macaroni and microwave noodles bowls, that were expired as well. read more

I really like going to this jewel. It's a great place to pick up a few things and leave. It is smaller but you can get what you want and not feel like your running a triathlon. I have been coming to this jewel for over ten years they are always trying to find ways to improve. The management and staff are so polite and helpful all the time. They are always pointing out the sales and tips on how I can save and when the good sales are. I order cakes too from here yum and if you need cupcakes with special characters they will provide them for you. I am definitely a fan of the my mix coupon ap this was suggested by one of the managers. This cozy jewel by far is my favorite Quick ,cute and very helpful staff ! Highly recommended read more

Worst. Store. Ever. It is super dirty & very, very cluttered. Displays and tables full of stuff are EVERYWHERE. As soon as you walk in you literally run into large tables & displays. You can not shop without bumping into displays and/or other people shopping. Sadly the staff is mediocre at best. I found couple of managers today and vented my frustration - and while talking everybody passing by totally agreed and were unable to even pass by without bumping into displays and/or us. Manager stated he'd mention it to corporate and a remodel was coming soon. Well if you are not organized now, a fancy remodel is not going to help you later. DE-CLUTTER the store! The workers here are just absolutely awful and rude. Half the time items are out of stock or expired. The food from the deli is always stale and gross especially the chicken tenders. I try to avoid this place like a rash.. I live 5 blocks from tbe place and go to Wood dale if I have to go to Jewel at all. The guy that's the store manager is not very nice at all. Never says "Hi" or Greets customers I've seen him be mean by yelling at his staff including a few disabled employees. Also theres a older lady that runs the service desk who's always grumpy. Most of the employees look like they don't like their jobs. Prices are way too high and try to fool you with the sale stickers that in small print tell you that you have to buy 4 to get the discount. Oiy...how I dislike this Jewel. This location is less than a mile from me but I go out of my way to shop at the one in Wood Dale. I remember this Jewel being nicer when I was younger but then again, I was just along for the ride. I wasn't doing the grocery shopping myself. They recently did a re-model and I still find the place very over crowded. The "wait" section by the lines is also so cramped together. Not more than 2 carts can wait their turn before they are blocking the flow of traffic. I think the whole cramped feel is because the ceilings are low...who knows, whatever it is, I don't like it. The produce section is less than desirable too but I find that all of Jewel's produce (regardless of location) is less than desirable. It really is hit or miss. The few times I've been here I always have problems with my coupons too. This past week they had a double coupon special. Well, I used the 6 coupons that were posted on their corporate facebook wall (which clearly stated you could use 6) and the cashier was giving me a hard time saying I could only use 5 like the ones that were in the Sunday paper. After going back and forth with her, she finally let me use them...but still made me feel like I was trying to get away with something. I just love it when the consumer is more informed than the actual employees. This could be a corporate issue with Jewel or an issue of laziness with their employees. Clearly no one at any Jewel store likes their jobs. You can see it on their faces. At this particular Jewel the people in the deli are treated with less respect than anyone I've known. Treated like a heard of animals and talked to by their manager "Lisa" like they are less than nothing and are clearly of no value. What a shame.
