The level of customer service in this store is generally poor with the strong exception of the deli, the deli staff are great. In most of my visits the cashiers are grouped together chatting and do not address or even look at the customer in front of them. Today was the same and as I began moving away from the register area another employee, appeared managerial, crossed my path stopping me in my tracks. Then after I abruptly stopped he, also not looking directly at me but side eyed, continued on his way instead of apologizing and allowing the customer to proceed. Every single time I go to this business, it's always unpleasant staff, customers etc. Yesterday a young Mexican male cashier was nasty, unprofessional and made a racist remark and started speaking Spanish to his coworker. This is ONLY for the coffee/croissant cafe section. I stopped buying anything from a Caputos. Can you imagine asking the produce guy if they had better avocados than the ones which need to be trashed because they are so soft AND they want $3 bucks for TWO squishy ones...and being told he knows their bad but they have no better ones. THEN WHY SELL THEM? No matter how much propaganda the speaker songs sing, it seems EVERYTHING IS MORE EXPENSIVE AT...CAPUTOS. NO I DO NOT SAVE MORE, IF YOU HIT IN THE EYE WITH A BIG PIZZA PIE, IT'S...no I can't say it. It is sad, but it is business. They have a following for they do carry items other stores do not. Have to say, when I'm back in Addison ( 2-3 times a week), I'm going to come here to do my shopping. Place is accessible, Clean and has a different vibe then other food markets. I bought a block of mozzarella cheese wrapped in mid January and with a March expiration. After 1 week it had mold on it. When I tried to exchange it, I was told I needed a receipt. I was not even looking for a refund. I used to shop here religiously and will definitely reconsider now. No apology, no recourse. Buy at your own risk and keep a file of ALL of your Caputo's receipt just in case their quality is subpar. There is a reason it is not as busy as it used to be. Very disappointed. read more

Most amazing grocery store I've ever seen! We drive 90 miles just to grocery shop here with cooler in tow, and it's worth the cost of gas and tolls. Recent trip proved to be more amazing than the prior as this location was recently renovated and WOW! Produce is second to NONE! Extensive variety of organic and regular produce, deli and bakery. Fresh hot bar with several options, espresso bar had MIA staff so the manager came over and asked if we had been helped yet. When we said no, it's been awhile, he appeared upset -paged the "espresso expert" and comped our espressos. We then sat at a table and enjoyed our delectable desserts which easily became our lunch! read more

This was my first time at Caputo's in Addison. It is bright, fresh and clean. We basically walked every aisle and I loved the assortment. Prices are pretty good on most items. Everyone there was super super helpful and my biggest complaint is how far it is from home (this is the closest one and is a 45 minute drive on a good day). The deli has a fantastic array of meats and cheeses, all we had were so fresh. Love the true Italian assortment. Even chunks of prosciutto (maybe left over from slicing) that we took to cube in dishes. Real Romano Parmigiano from the wheel and so much more. I love their antipasto or olive bar. Very fresh and great selection. If you're looking to try different olive oils, they had an interesting selection. I'm very particular and tried two bottles. One was a grand slam, and one tasted off. Their selection of pastas is very good and their canned tomatoes looks great. I wish they had more 14oz cans especially of the San Marzano types. Their fish selection is NOT huge, but what they had seemed fresh. Just not a lot put out. It could be this is to keep it fresh and it was in back. Their meat selection is good but again, I am not sure they had all the high end (prime) type cuts. We didn't ask as we don't eat a lot of meat. Their fruit and vegetables looked so fresh and everything was competively priced. We loved the selection and quality. Since I continue to shop at Caputo's I figured it's time to revisit my review. The remodel has been a welcoming change and the newer section of the store looks very nice & roomy. Oh, and they have a coffee & liquor bar with seating and a much larger and improved prepared food section (sushi, pizza, etc) though the only thing I've ever bought is a pizza slice and by the way, I'm no longer a fan..Tortilla station is new as well. 2 main reasons I shop here: 1. Italian products For example: Chellino ricotta (seriously the best kind), imported prosciutto salami & parmigiano cheese, focaccia & Italian breads, house made bocconcini (also the best kind. If you've been buying other brands, you should really try this), great selection of canned tomatoes, olive oil, pasta, etc and produce Italians get into: Melrose peppers, Sicilian cucumbers, rapini, etc..you get the picture. 2. Fish The above items are typically fresh and I have no complaints with the exception of rapini or various produce on occasion. Produce and fruit is more often than not hit or miss which is my biggest beef with Caputo's. It all boils down to freshness. Fish is always fresh because I know when it comes in (9am Wed & 2pm Fridays) and they have what I like (fresh mussels, clams, skate fish, octopus, squid, cod, merluzzo, snapper, etc). I eat a lot of fish, so I appreciate their selection. I also appreciate the honesty of staff when I ask if something is fresh or not. I've been coming here since I was a little girl tagging along with mom. Back then I didn't pay attention to these things, but since I've been cooking I've seen the ups & downs of Caputo's. Even with the remodel, what hasn't changed is this store still feels dirty to me. Could it be the expired perishable (& non perishable) items I seem to notice on the shelves? The slowly aging produce or fruit that should've been removed? I had a bad experience more than once with their meat years ago and I just can't bring myself to buying it again, so anything red is off limits for me. If the poultry is a non Caputo's brand, I'm fine with it. Obviously I have trust issues here. Some items on the shelves are dusty and unclean. The selection of dairy (milk, creamer) is limited. The selection of ethnic products and produce is average and not as impressive as other markets, yet they've introduced more items since remodeling. I've purchased imported prosciutto on sale that only remained fresh for two days. Deli dept. is sometimes haphazard and unorganized, but staff is always kind. Meat and fish counters could use more help. This store could be so much better if it didn't constantly fail on consistency. It may not ever be a Mariano's or Pete's and that's ok...For me, Caputo's will still be a convenient one stop shop for all things Italian in the burbs. read more

NEW: (2020-Feb) The good meals are back and worth checking out. The specials are written on a white board and I don't know them now, but you should still go. The hot bar changes unlike Mariano's. The Hot Bar just had Shrimp fajitas yesterday, then steak fajitas today. The cold bar has numerous salad options as well. Go inside and check it out. If you have time, check out the bar with daily specials and working fireplace too. PREVIOUS: They used to have a great hot lunch but ever since the new menu with no daily specials it's gone way down. The renovation is looking good and I feel that I find a nice selection of deals. It's the meat and how they can slice the meat that has me always checking in. read more

Chef Gene is a very nice guy and was very helpful in setting this up via the Catering Kitchen. Despite saying I would not go back after last years fiasco ( posted below)- I gave it another Go and a week beforehand ordered a cooked 7 lb boneless lamb roast to be picked up at 3 pm on Thanksgiving at the Addison/ Lake street location - same was to be cooked medium rare. The attached pictures showed what I ended up with when I opened the roast at destination to go along with the Turkey and all sides to be served to 18 guests. It is absurd that anyone would have sent this out as cooked and "good to go "- it's cooking 101 - it would have been barley feasible to be overcooked -but raw ?? I cook quite a bit and I'm a bit of a chef myself -and there is no excuse for this lack of attention to cooking time & temp . It is appalling that this happened let alone on a Holiday when needed and I would bet this has happened to others . I will not be returning to Caputo's in the future- and good luck to all other patrons who still order from here - having to flip a coin on whether your roasted meat will be cooked or raw . read more

Wow, I was impressed with this newly designed market. The time and money that went into changing up the old dreary location to what it is now is greatly appreciated. Aisles after aisles of the Italian specialties we have all come to love. The more impressive aspects are their prepared foods that you can take to go. This place has seriously turned into a one stop shop for all your dinners/lunches. They have a warm bar, cold bars, and even the best bar out of them all...liquor. I couldn't believe the new location actually had a bar present. That just makes me want to shop. Also a good way to get me and others like me to throw empty-less amounts of food and items we don't even need into our carts. I stopped in after dinner, but I'll be heading back when I have more time to keep browsing the selection. Definitely your place to stop if ever needing to make a charcuterie board. read more

I walked into Caputo's in Addison on lake street today and was blown away by the new store. They have a clean , modern and spacious store broken up into various departments. They have a fantastic area dedicated to pre prepared, grab and go food items. You can hit the coffee bar or grab a cocktail at the bar complete with a fireplace to unwind before you grab something for dinner. Your choices run from salads and sliced fruits to sushi, pizzas and prepared Italian specialties. There were packages of chicken Vesuvio ,lasagna, chicken parmigiana and salmon dishes all ready to take home and heat up. They have their own tortilla bar, cranking out corn and flour tortillas. They have no competition as far as their basic grocery items. The variety and depth of choices are mind boggling. I wish that they had a better quality of meat. This is a common comment you read from other reviewers. I limit my meat purchases to their Italian sausage. Another frequent criticism is that their produce goes bad quickly once you get it home. I always look closely at the produce and purchase just what I will use for a few days. Seeing the new Caputo's has me thinking t to go a bit further and hit this place up! read more

Overall I love this remodeled store. They have great prices on fruits and vegetables. Their meat selection and quality is better then most along with the pricing They now have a larger fish/seafood section which is also a great addition. I can go on and on about how the store is much improved my negative thing to say is they need more help at the deli. The selection and price are still great, but please get more help to move things along. Either that or maybe keep customers informed over the PA system to let them know what number they're serving so perhaps they can continue shopping rather than waiting at the deli for a half hour read more

Went here for a double expresso before work. No one was at the coffee but a girl called the Barista and she came right away. Very polite and thanked me for waiting. It was only half a minute wait time. Great expresso from Italy a dollar cheaper than anywhere else. Giselle was incredible and got my day off to a good start! Thank you Caputo's. read more

On Friday 7/5 I purchased a package of chicken thighs. When I opened the plastic to cook on Saturday the smell almost knocked me out even though it said packaged on 7/4 and sell by 7/9. They refused to give me a refund or replacement without a receipt although it was clearly their packaging. She made me wait 20 minutes while she looked up the receipt in their system then credited back my card, with NO APOLOGY for the inconvenience or selling me rotten meat in the first place. They were more worried about FIVE DOLLARS than customer inconvenience or customer satisfaction and no consideration for the fact that I had to drive back and forth to the store again. This is not the first time I got bad chicken there and this is a warning when you buy meat hang on to your receipt. Did they think I shoved a 3.5 lb package of chicken down my pants and stole it? WTAF? I also suggested she have the other chicken with those dates checked out, but she did nothing and is leaving them on the shelf for others to purchase who may just say screw it and throw it out rather than deal with their bullshit. read more

I purchased a package of blueberry turnovers from their bakery section, and there was hardly any filling in them. I used to buy their chicken ranch wraps, but I stopped for the same reason. They hardly put any meat in them. This is very disappointing, considering how much the price of groceries have gone up. read more

I've been here a zillion times through the years. Caputo's has a large vegetable and fruit department where most of the times they have decent prices. Not all of it is a bargain and not all of it is the freshest. You need to be selective when shopping here. I have had some of the best mangos and cantaloupe out of this location. They also have quite a large deli with decent prices. I have never been that big a fan of their meat department but they do offer these Mexican style chicken quarters at a low price that are great on the grill. They are definitely worth picking up. If you shop the produce section carefully, you can be quite pleased. read more

I've been a Caputo's shopper for a LONG time. When I started, they still had their tiny store in Addison. I chose it for three reasons...1. My big supermarket never had enough checkers and I was tired of being in line being an endless series of people asking to go ahead of me because they had "just these few items." 2. I avoid union businesses. 3. It was cheaper. Time passed and it was all I knew. Recently I was in the produce section and got to chatting with a lady next to me. We were both lamenting a particular item's quality. She said, "Well, you know what they say about Caputo's produce..." Um...no...what?? "Eat it in the parking lot." Explaining further, she noted that it's not fresh enough to last long. Sigh... This lent credibility to a friend's observation that Caputo's buys whatever it left when the grocery stores get their veggies. I guess this explains why so much of what is in their produce department seems like it's been left on a pallet in the sun for a few hours. Soft...withered...sometimes moldy. LIke I said, I've been a LONG time at Caputo's. ...and recently it was convenient for me to pop in to a Jewel for a few ingredients. My daughter laughed at me as my excitement mounted and over and over again I felt the vegetables exclaiming, "Feel how firm this is!" Oh. My. Gosh. NEVER GOING BACK NEVER GOING BACK NEVER GOING BACK..... To Caputo's. Caputo's sucks. Seriously. I don't care a thing for my union prejudice anymore so long as I can get a rock hard green pepper...firm potatoes...cabbages without evidence of half a head of blackened leaves having been removed by staff... SO fresh! SO big. I'll bet I won't even experience the all-too-frequent at Caputo's phenomena of finding expired jars and cans on the shelf. I'm done. The produce may be cheaper - and with obvious reason - but nothing else is. And if you consider it...IS it cheaper? See the picture. How much food is thrown away? How much gas is wasted with having to make more frequent trips because the stuff won't keep? I am absolutely a fan of Angelo Caputo's. We frequent the location in Hanover Park much more often than the Addison location, but since we spend a lot of time in the Addison area, if we are there on a weekend and need to shop for produce and deli products for the week, we always make it a point to stop here. I really love how this store is laid out. It's very simple and straightforward. The three departments I spend my time are... - Produce - Deli - Bakery Their PRODUCE is fresh and I have NEVER walked through the produce department without seeing someone stocking the fruits and veggies. Their pricing is fantastic and the quality is great. The DELI is a mile long. They have everything you could possibly ever want and a meat department that could choke a horse! There is always something I want on sale and if you want a sample to taste before buying a pound, all you have to do is ask. Now, my very favorite part of the store is the BAKERY. Sure, you can go to Jarosch or your local bakery and pay $15-$20 per pound for butter cookies but why would you when you can pick up Caputo's butter cookies for $6.99 (sometimes on sale for $5.99) per pound. They are a great item to bring to a dinner party or just to put in your cookie jar on your kitchen counter! A few other things I regularly purchase at Caputo's: tomato sauce (or any canned tomatoes), pasta, Italian sausage (available in bulk or in links), bread. I absolutely love Caputo's and everything they offer. I can't do ALL my household shopping here but, we sure can eat meals just fine after shopping here. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would! The behavior of two of the workers today was horrendous. I shop at the Addison location almost every day. Today during lunch time, I went to get some chicken from the salad bar. I was about to pay and then I realized that I had forgotten my wallet. The gentleman at the register was really nice, he even said "it's ok" but I said no no, I can try pay you over the phone. He then proceeded to add a sticker to my container, and told me to go pay by the customer service window. The amount on the sticker was $6. I go to customer service and I ask to pay over the phone. A rude lady, who has seen me multiple times in the past by the way, told me "we don't do that here". I wasn't really upset at this point because I knew it was my mistake. I told them that I would be back to pick up my food. So I did. I walk by the customer service window to pay for my food, and the same lady says out loud, and for everyone to hear, "oh he did come back". I was shocked and I replied, "why wouldn't I?, You see me here every day! Why would you say that?" I felt so embarrassed. The young guy who took my payment doubled down saying "sir, most people don't come back." My blood was boiling at this point... I told him that I don't care what other people are doing, I paid my $6 and I walked out. I am regretting I didn't ask for the manager. I am never going back to Caputo's. I do not typically shop at Caputo's and I doubt that I ever will again. I stopped here one night after dinner to do some last minute shopping. The prices were in line with other markets. The layout was typical. ' The one thing that stood out in my mind is that in my one shopping trip, there were at least 2 items that had incorrect prices. When I pointed that out, they sent me to the service desk. I waited an additional 10 minutes to get my money back but there was no, "we're sorry for the error" or anything. It was as if I was putting them out since I didn't agree to getting ripped off. I should of just left everything and asked for my money back and walked out but I was in a good mood. It's not the money, I would have paid whatever the difference was if that was the posted price. Don't post 2 for $5 and then charge me $2.99 each. In any case, they get 2 stars for freshness (the veggies were very good) and 0 for customer service. I would advise bringing a piece of paper and pen to jot down prices if you think they might be misleading you. I know I will if I ever go back. read more

I don't know why it took me so long to try Caputo's but I now go there more often than any other market. ORGANICS: They have a nice section for organic fruits and veggies and while not large it is tucked in it's consistent location and sometimes there are good deals. REGULAR FRUITS AND VEGGIES: Always pretty good deals. I recently bought a couple of avocados that were too ripe even though they were still firm - and I can usually pick them well -- but otherwise I can't complain about the quality for the prices. OTHER DEPARTMENTS: I wish they carried wild caught shrimp. Everything they have is farm raised which I will not buy or eat. But the other departments are all ok. There are often good deals on regular canned goods and I love the olive bar. I am a huge fan and I haven't really felt that way about any other store except trader joe's. read more

This is a place I would go substantially out of my way for. I remember around Christmas time I wanted to make limoncello. They had huge, gorgeous, ripe, perfect lemons on sale for 12/$1. Are you kidding? This place is amazing. It's known for it's outstanding deli, but im not a fan of those cold meats. The produce spans different origins and cultural interests. The aisles are broken down by ethnicity somewhat. They also have great plants outside, and in the spring and summer, wonderful fresh herbs! The quality is above your average market, but the price is much cheaper. My must haves there are frozen pizza dough, croissants, bulk nuts and dried herbs, and unusual products that you can't conveniently find anywhere else. read more

You just gotta love Caputo's! The produce is great in variety and quality. It might be a bit more expensive than Jewell, but I love the quality of the fruits and veggies. Next stop is always their deli. On weekends get there early or get a number and stand in line. But as far as meats and cheeses go, nobody in the area can beat Caputo's. There is great variety beyond Italian and American groceries. There is a great section for Hispanic, Asian, Polish, and even Greek groceries. The location on Lake St is perfect for us, and you should really try it out for your grocery shopping. Just keep in mind that it is not the place to go when in a rush or if your pinching pennies. This is my local Caputos. The place is remodeled, clean turn around of fresh produce is pretty good. I see produce guys fixing, picking, replacing stuff which is good in my books. They also sell more organic products from fruits/veggies and in the meat department, I saw organic chicken, pork, and beef! I wouldn't come here during the weekend. It's a mad house, get out of the way, excuse me, excuse me, watch it! I would suggest to come here during the week or if yo must come here in the weekend, come very early or later in the evenings. Their deli counter gets busy too. I don't care much of their hot food that they serve near the registers. Some of the food looked like it's been warming all day, ick. I was really hungry so I tried their pizza special 2 for 1. The pizza crust was dry and the toppings are blah. You would think it's an Italian owned place that the food would be as good. I would eat a tombstone pizza than the pizza they served to me at that time. I go back here if I can't get what I needed in Jewel or too lazy to drive to Wholefoods. read more
