Fantastic market in an assuming location. Mike's is legendary to some around these western suburbs. We have come here for years and it never lets us down. The Grill Master brats and burgers are a go to (cheddar and onion mixed in). Mike's also has a great deli selection with fresh made sandwiches and a bevy of sides to choose from. Small grocery and meat market with a great selection and super friendly staff. All the cuts are immaculate, and the butchers will package and dress things how you ask without even a blink. Nice deli selection of Boars Head and miscellaneous prepared items as well as a freezer full of prepped meals and other staples. Also 3ish aisles of packaged/box goods. Amazing meats and a Great team working there. Been going to Mike's for decades and still find myself going there even tho I now live further west. Try their blackened ribeye. It's not blackened how you would expect....its more like a glazing and they are always trimmed nicely. Phenomenal. Very good deli as well with a lot of prepared side dishes. We popped in here while exploring some other spots in the same strip mall. If you're doing Thanksgiving solo/for two, this may be the place for you: they had prepared meals in the fridge when you first walk in. Along the back wall was a very nice looking meat counter with welcoming staff. There are also several shelves of dry goods. I will have to return and check out the meat selection more thoroughly when I have my cooler with me! read more

I've had Mike's on my list for awhile. A few friends mentioned how great it was and they were right on. Came in looking for lamb shank, and they only had frozen. Yet I managed to find so much more, and $140 later... First impression, awesome! Men behind counters were ultra friendly. I think I saw 4-5 guys just asking people If they've been helped alone. Two guys at register. No shortage of help or service here. And at no point did I feel rushed, very welcoming and feel good vibe. I stopped in around 3pm on a weekday and there was a decent crowd here, but not super busy. They had their game on. Being a first timer, I had to step back and just take in all of the glorious meats, seafood and sides. Prepared fresh meals: individual meatloaf, stuffed peppers, various salads, twice baked potatoes, crab stuffed mushrooms, spinach stuffed shrooms...and on and on. I was in variety heaven! Their chicken kiev is very popular and happened to be on sale $8/lb. I grabbed 4. Had that homemade taste. Neatly placed in aluminum containers. They provide cooking instructions on pkg and wrap nicely. And you can freeze for the following week. Bone in rib eye was the star of the show and gorgeous thick cuts. $18/lb. Various marinated salmon. Nice seafood selection. So good. They even have a frozen section of all their house made dinners. Large and mini pot pies. Frozen meats and more. Good looking deli and cheese offerings. Burgers were fantastic. You're getting top quality here, and you pay a little extra for it, yet I felt prices were reasonable. Market is on smaller side. Modest selection of accompaniments for your dinner. Even some fresh produce, burger buns, condiments. Spices and seasonings. Basically they've got you covered for a last minute dinner. Crab stuffed shrooms were ok, but I loved everything else. I have been going here in Mike's Meat Market for quite a long time now and they never ever disappointed me with their products. It is a small meat, deli and few grocery store. It was clean and for a small store it is a bit spacious. They have an amazing selection of meat and deli. There was a lot of desired cuts or quantities to choose from. Portion sizes are also and the prices are very reasonable. The products they sell are fresh and has a great quality. There is this shelf that has a lot of ingredients and seasoning whenever I want to cook a nice decent meal. They also have a small selection for fresh vegetables. The other good thing here is their staff are always helpful whenever you need assistance. Butcher are always friendly and sometimes funny. This is a really nice store and I will continue to buy in here because it is also a great feeling supporting a local business. read more

When I recently decided to splurge on a beef tenderloin to prepare for some guests I was entertaining, I asked around as to where the best place to obtain my meat would be. Mike's was the clear winner as far as fan favorite, and I can see why. Their cases overflow with beautiful cuts of meat, cold cuts and everything else you'll find standard in a deli. Tho not much on looks from the outside, the market inside is very tidy, clean and professional looking. It also doesn't have that "deli smell" you find in other places. There's an assortment of convenience groceries available, dry goods and the like, but I've never taken much interest in them. My favorites are the meat. I ordered my tenderloin over the phone, so when I came to pick it up it would be clean, stringed off and ready to prepare. I wasn't disappointed. Every bit of fat was delicately trimmed off for me. It was probably the most buttery, melt-in-your-mouth piece of beef that I've ever cooked. I'd definitely go back. And I want to try some of the prepared foods they have in their fridge section. They look incredible. Don't come here expecting discount prices. You get quality, but you pay for quality. read more

Trying my hand at tapas and a recipe called for lamb. WHAT? I've never cooked lamb before. When I read "lamb", there was only one place I wanted to visit where I knew I'd get good quality meat. MIKES! When the butcher asked me how I was cooking it (marinated and grilled) he steered me away from the chops and suggested leg of lamb. Um, yeah. You did hear I never cooked lamb before, right? He offered to cut up the lamb in the needed portion sizes and promised me that leg of lamb will be just fine. Taking his suggestion, the price of my purchase was much less than if I went with chops. Bonus for saving me money! If you visit, check out the produce as well. There's not a very large selection, but on that particular day I found bunches of asparagus that was much bigger and cheaper than my local produce market. Bonus again! Located in a strip mall on the SW corner of Villa and St. Charles, Mike's Meat Market has a great selection and quality of meats as well as side items for any occasion. I purchased some ribs and a roast for a barbecue. The prices were competitive for what I was looking for and the meat ended up being quite meaty. Some items, however, seemed a little pricey considering it was only a slight upgrade. I got rave reviews for the ribs, which I give myself very little credit for putting on the rub as the smoker did most of the work! Service was pretty good, too. I also go for their Thursday sandwich special ($3.50 for their regular $4.98 sandwiches) and they provide some good recommendations (Tavern ham and salami). Since the line can be long due to the holidays, I've had people take my purchase over to the meat counter and pay there. Overall, a solid place for your special purchases and to check out. read more

LOVE this place. My bf and I recently moved to Elmhurst and were looking for a place to buy a good steak. Randomly drove by this place one day and decided to try it out... Boy, am I glad we did!! EVERYONE in this place is super friendly and helpful and their meats are amazing! Prices are suprisingly reasonable, and to be honest, well worth it! I came in here expecting to pay more than I would at those big chain grocery stores, and was pleasantly surprised to find they really weren't that much more. But the quality is MUCH better. I like a great steak like any other carnivore... so for New Years Eve my husband and I decided to grill up some Filet Mignon. So I went to Mike's for my perfect Filet quest. Mike's always has a great case or two full of meat, sausage, seafood.. anything and everything you can ask for... I walk on in and case out the store before I make my way back to the cases... By the time I get back there, there are tons of people standing there placing orders... tickets in their hands... I rip off my ticket and search for my "Golden Fleece". I finally find what I wanted... nice sized, plump Filets and then I gazed down at the lb. pricing... it was about $25.00 a lb. I almost had a heart attack. I couldn't believe my eyes... They then called my number.. again and again and then they went onto the next. I was in shock. I took my ticket, threw it in my pocket and walked out of the store empty handed. I called up my husband and asked what Filet usually ran for a lb. and he said $18.00. and that is for "Choice"... not Select, nor for Prime. The price they were charging was absurd. So I made my way to my usual fallback, our Dominick's Fresh Store. (I ended up getting two FANTASTIC Filets... they were the same size/Choice, as the ones being featured at Mike's, at $15.99 a lb. But then they also were running a great deal so I got both steaks for $14.47... so it was a win win situation for our New Years Eve din din.) End all be all.... If Mike's wants to keep great local shoppers happy they shouldn't be charging the prices they are charging. read more

So this little market is located in what looks like a run down strip mall, but my husband swears by it so we walked on in. I was so pleasantly surprised! The men behind the meat counter were so knowledgable about their products, couldn't have been more helpful, and they even recommend how to cook whatever you order! There was a huge variety of meats, fish, and seafood, as well as some semi prepared things like stuffed mushrooms, fajitas, etc. Yeah, prices are a bit higher, but everything is cut fresh and prepared in house, and the customer service rocks. They also have a deli and grocery section which I did not check out but will be back for some meats! read more

Sloppy customer service was the experience today, picking up a holiday order in a very uncrowded store. Our order had to be retrieved from the fridge while we waited at checkout for a good 5 to 10 minutes. Employees standing around shooting the breeze. Finally one of them realized our order was right there...in the pick up area...and finally checked us out. Who knows how long our wait would have been if I hadn't asked about the delay. Train them, talk to them, motivate them, Mr Mike, before you lose customers. read more

My only gripe with this place is why have I not tried them earlier???? Small, no frills place that can be easy to miss in it's location.... This place is fantastic for the selection of fresh meats and hard to find items. It is the ONLY place that I have seen that carries Blood Pudding and some other really hard to find ethnic foods...not a big fan of the breakfast pudding myself...but I thought it was wonderful that I found it there should I ever wish to try it again. Their selection of meats and seafood is outstanding and the people behind the counters extremely friendly and helpful. When you purchase their food, they include cooking tips so that you have their recommendations on how to cook the item. Their stuffed mushrooms and spicy italian sausage were both fantastic and so far everything we have bought from there has not let us down. It's like eating a gourmet - dinning out - meal in the comfort of your own home. Add a bottle of wine, some crusty bread and whala! Pajamas welcome if you wish! If you're not inventive or looking for new recipes...their prepared selection of meats look and are delicious...fresh stuffed fish, marinated skirt steak, stuffed pork tenderloin... they have a fantastic looking meatloaf and their pot pie was the best I've had in a long time. Of course you pay a little more per pound for the preparation...but it is so worth the extra money. Their grocery section is a little pricey...but their main attraction is their deli and meat counters and their employees. I highly recommend this place if you love the old butcher style delis. Wow what a gem. So glad I finally went into this shop. The variety of meat, the freshness, their knowledge about meat, they get their product as locally as they can. Yeah it's going to be a little pricier then say Jewel(yuck what feed lot did that come from?), but I'm pretty sure you get what you pay for.
