I'm in town for a work trip and was looking for somewhere to grab dinner when I came across Hana. The reviews were great, sushi sounded good, so I decided to take a chance, and I'm so glad I did! The first night it was CRAZY busy. It's a smaller restaurant, and even though I was sitting at the bar, I had to wait a little because the kitchen was backed up. I honestly didn't mind because I figured that was probably a good sign that I picked the right place! I sat at the bar and was taken care of by Will. I overheard that he had literally just come from working his first job and was starting his second shift, and you never would've known it. He was on top of everything, taking care of his tables and everyone at the bar while still being friendly and attentive. He recommended the Lonely Angel roll, and it was a 10/10. I had it with miso soup and a glass of wine and left very happy with my choice. Well, I worked all day the next day and hadn't eaten, and I'm a creature of habit. If somewhere is good, I'm going back! I went back a little earlier this time, so it was much quieter, and to my surprise Will was behind the bar again. I got to talk with him a little more and he was super personable and genuinely enjoyable to chat with. He recommended a tuna tobachi and a Hokkaido roll, and somehow they were BOTH even better than what I had the night before. Seriously, 100/10. Great food, great service, and clearly consistent enough to get me there two days in a row. If I'm ever back in Gainesville, I will absolutely be back. Back in town and needed to get my Hana fix. Busy as usual but I was able to get a two spot and enjoy a couple of rolls. The sunshine was good but the Banzai was amazing. Wow. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The staff is super nice. It was our first time there but it will not be our last. Our waiter was awesome and he answered all of our questions and was patient. We had 3 sushi rolls, one was the Explosion roll, and it was tasty. I ordered the pineapple fried rice with shrimp and it was delicious. We decided to try Hana because of the great reviews and how close it is to where we live, compared to Akaya that we love all the way up in Orange Park. If we could find a place with great sushi, prices and hibachi much closer to home, we'd be more than happy! Well we went in on Saturday night about 7-8 pm and it looked really good since there was a decent crowd inside but we still were able to be seated right away. Everything was spick-n-span, clean as a whistle and service is probably the best I've seen anywhere. No sooner then a seat was vacated, then people IMMEDIATELY clean it, reset it for the next customer to be seated. Our drink order was taken immediately and our appetizers as well. My husband wanted hibachi, but it's difficult to remember exactly what sushi rolls I wanted without writing them down, so I just got the salmon lover plate and tried the tempura chicken fried roll. Yes, it was all delicious. It was fresh, perfectly presented and superb. HOWEVER, the difference between this place and where we usually go is they will give you all the condiments you ask for. In fact, they will put a whole bottle of "yum-yum" sauce on your table if you want it. Little dipping cups for eel sauce or "ginger steak" sauce. I despise soy sauce to dip my sushi in. It's salty and I don't like more salt on my food EVERY. Yuck. My husband likes to squeeze a decent amount of yum-yum sauce on his hibachi. They only gave him an extra one little cup of their version of yum-yum sauce (Which we did not like at all). None was given to me, not was anything offered. There's no spicy sauce, no ginger sauce, no yum-yum sauce...nothing was offered. Not even any little dipping cups on the tables! I understand cutting costs. I understand things add up. But I surely could've done without the fancy orchid blossoms. I'm not going to eat that. Yes, it's pretty and looks nice, but don't cut costs by not having dipping cups on the tables, not any sauces besides soy there. My husband's noodles were cold and not hot at all, so with the lack of decent sauce and the cold noodles, no sauce for me either, we were rather disappointed. If you want good, fresh sushi and you like just soy sauce, this is the place for you. As for my husband and myself, we'll be sticking with our tried and true best place ever up in Orange Park, Akaya. But Hana had fresh sushi, best quality sushi grade fish, expertly cut and their hibachi is good too. The gyoza dumplings I had as an appetizer were fabulous and my husband enjoyed his crab Rangoon. We weren't very happy, so we didn't try the fried ice cream or other desserts, but it looked delicious. Hana is a Gainesville staple. Most nights there is a long wait, and they don't take reservations, but the wait is worth it. The food comes out super quickly as well. We had the chef's selection and the two of us were hardly able to finish it. It was a great variety of fish and it all tasted super fresh. Sushi was well made and presentation was terrific, too. Located across the street from Celebration Pointe on the same side as Dave & Buster. Easy parking, but they don't take reservations on football weekends so be prepared to wait a little bit. We arrived Friday night at seven and only had a 20 minute wait. The restaurant is big inside so they can accommodate a lot of people. Sushi was fresh. Started with spicy Tuna Rolls and Salmon Rolls. Both we're excellent. Spicy Girl Roll - Spicy Tuna, Salmon, and Yellowtail with avocado rolled in pink soy bean paper. Unique and a nice twist. Hana Naruto Roll - also had Spicy Tuna, Salmon, and Yellowtail a bit of Kani, avocado and caviar rolled in cucumber. We decided to sit outside as pup was along for the ride from Sarasota to just north of Gainesville, about two and a half hours of driving. Once we settled into our hotel I fired up YELP to see what's around and was mildly surprised by all the options. I'm guessing it's due to it being a college town University of Florida - Go Gators. The outside dining area was quite messy and I do believe that it was from the night before, having not been totally cleaned up - turn off? yes, but getting back into the car was far more unappetizing than anything else I could envision. The sashimi appetizer was smallish as most sushi appetizers tend to be, the color and texture seemed fine but there was something a bit off in the taste, bland is the description I'll go with but there was just something I can't quite put my finger on going on. Two rolls each, names are evading me and somewhat unimportant as I reflect back now, and if the food was better, I'd go through the slight trouble to look up the answers on their website - but the experiment is not drawing any further creativity nor independent research out of me - and that flies in the face of all the positive reviews I read prior to us going for our early dinner. I've been to Hana Sushi a few times now, and it's definitely one of my favorite sushi places in Gainesville. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the service is top-notch. I've tried a lot of different things on the menu, but my favorites are the spicy edamame, the yellowtail jalapeño roll, and the Philadelphia roll. We had the Pad Thai today and it was delicious! Their hibachi portions are huge! The prices are also very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. It is a hidden gem! Hana is my favorite place to go for sushi. The ambiance is pretty loud but fun for the whole family or for a date night. They have already outgrown this locations because the town has discovered how good the food is. A thought that might help - I would love the see them utilize the outdoor seating. Sometimes we do date night at the bar and it's quick. The takeout is easy. Since the location is typically full the takeout is in an inconvenient spot but it's done fairly quickly and the food is almost always ready. I have only had one problem when I ordered eggplant and got edamame instead. I was disappointed and never got to try the eggplant..next time. Their sushi is my favorite for many reasons one main one is the sushi to rice ratio. The thin layer of rice is absolutely what I look for when I get sushi. I hate going somewhere and you pay $15 for rice and the tiniest piece of fish...not at Hana. I also taste the difference of their fish quality here. The combination of the fresh fish, sauces, flavors, low rice ratio among fresh veggies makes these rolls perfect. Some of My favorites are the lonely angel, passion, bonsai, Sakura, Hawaiian rolls. Honestly you can't go wrong with any here. Even the non specialty rolls are very good like the magic roll and sweet potato roll. There are many appetizer I like to get at Hana - many are sushi related. I love the yellowtail jalapeño and Kani salad(tip:sub for the spicy mayo instead). The miso soup and spicy edamame are also very good! My favorite dishes here are pad Thai! As I said above this is my new favorite place to get it. I get extra spicy and it's not too extreme but I like spicy. It gives a good kick to go with the sweetness. You can't go wrong with the hibachi here. They do not do it in front of you but it comes out quick and it's never plain. I also like the red curry. They have a full bar with beer and wine. I typically get a lychee martini, mule, unfiltered Saki or passion fruit mojito. Sometimes the drinks are weak and sometimes they are strong. Something they could work on is a little consistency with the alcohol. I like a tall drink with my sushi. ;) They also serve cold or warm saki. The servers have been wonderful. I have gotten Alex a handful of times and he's awesome. He's recommended new dishes for us and that's been helpful. So have all of the others. There really is something for everyone here and I love that. Sometime I'm with people who don't care for sushi and I feel comfortable taking them here because I'm confident there food is just as good as their sushi! My family decided to have dinner here on Monday night around 6:30p for my mother's birthday and I have to say this restaurant is definitely on my list to return. When we arrived, there was no wait time and were seated very promptly. Because my parents have eaten here previously, my mom wanted to be seated in the back area near the bathroom to have Jess as our server. Jess was very attentive to our table and her area, and wa so nice. She absolutely added to the positive experience. For starters, we ordered the rock shrimp, seaweed salad, and miso soup. The rock shrimp was similar to bang bang shrimp, however it was not doused in sauce which actually made it very enjoyable. I love seaweed salad, and this one did not disappoint. I really liked that Hana added cucumbers onto the salad for a fresh take. The miso soup was good as well. I ordered the passion fruit mojito, and while it was a very pretty drink, it was ok. For our entrees, my dad ordered the shrimp fried rice - which was soooo good especially with the yum yum sauce. They did not hold out on the shrimp as they were juicy and large in size. My mom ordered the california roll and I ordered the spicy tuna roll. The spicy tuna roll wasn't anything special and I actually preferred it to have more spice as for my tastebuds it was very mild. Next time, I want to try the hibachi entree as my mom recommended that dish or a fried rice dish. Overall, it was a great experience with a beautiful ambience inside! read more

Menu had lots to choose from and we went with a kirin light beer, sake and a boat for 2. The soup and salad came out quickly as did the drinks and then next up was the main course. I'll start by saying our waiter, Alex, was very nice, friendly and attentive. I was pretty excited because it was busy for a Saturday night. It didn't take long for us to get seated. I was a little disappointed that the booth we got allocated was wet on one side, so my friend and I shared one side. The udon came quick (faster than the sushi, but Alex did ask ahead of time if we preferred to wait for the sushi first or if we didn't mind what would come quicker, which I thought was really nice). The udon was probably by favorite item of the night. It had an excessive amount of bell peppers, but was the udon noodles were nice and chewy. Sushi was a bit of a let down. I ordered the gator roll thinking it would be tempura batter (based on a previous yelper's photo) but it was actually a pretty dense katsu like batter (like a crochet), which was as bit disappointing.
