I have not been happy with our current vet and was losing faith in veterinaries in general. Just got back home from the visit and are ecstatic about our Lola's new doctor office. Staff was inviting, friendly & knowledgeable about products I had questions on. The doctor was amazing. Took all the time I needed for all my questions. Truly a great experience. I have never been to such a bad vet. Rascal and I have been going for years. Dr Griffin was the last vet we saw and dr. Irwin. They were both wonderful. This new vet I believe it's dr Clarkson. let me start with this....when Dr. Jeff owned this business it was a 5 star clinic. He cared about his patients and not the $$$$$. He retired a few years ago and sold to Booster Pet, a Corporate owned money grabber. We were fortunate enough to see Dr. Travis, but he is gone too. He opened his own clinic, Wild Hearts Veterinary clinic . Now we have learned they are relieving one of their most trusted techs/office manager because she just doesn't fit with their structure anymore. from a home grown vet clinic to a money hungry corporation, they deserve nothing from the locals who adored, respected, and admired the Minter Vet Clinic and staff back when Dr. Jeff believed in his work. if you are a current client, find a new vet ASAP. I took my pets to this practice when it was still owned by Dr. Irwin and I had no compliants. Since being bought out I haven't been happy with the new doctor. He gave me news that my dog had cancer via an email. In my opinion, that kind of news should be delivered in person or at the very least over the phone. I didn't see the email right away so it went a few days before I saw it. read more

Like others who offered their recent reviews, I had a long term relationship with Jeff Irwin and his staff. I last saw him March, 2025 and noticed new staff. My dog was given a Cytopoint injection and the injection cost was $67.98. On June 17 I returned for the next Cytopoint injection and more new staff, no familiar faces and the waiting area walls have been emptied. I was charged nearly $100 for the same injection. When I mentioned to staff what I paid 3 months earlier, they advised sheepishly that there is a new technician fee added to injections. I investigated who owns the practice and found it is referred to as a Boosterpet location and the chain is owned by Katherine Cutter and a Renton mailing address which turns out to be a UPS store mailbox. I also found many solicitations online by Boosterpet to hire vets and vet techs for the Gig Harbor location. I will not be returning. STAY AWAY FROM MINTERVET/BOOSTERPET. read more

I have been a client for over 19 years and loved the staff. They sold to a corporation this year, and I only had to get flea med refills last month and no problem at all. I called 2 days ago and was told again, "no problem" and it was fine to send a family member with my C.C. to purchase. They refused to dispense after he drove there (25 miles one way) and was told that my dogs were "way past due for exams". I called and was told, and I quote, "it has been ages since they were seen". I was told one dog only needed an exam and "Lepto" booster and the other needed "the works". I checked my records.........NOPE! Both were seen on July 29, 2023. Neither is due for rabies, one due in 2025, the other in 2026! Record says this year, only exam and "Lepto booster" needed for either one! I am furious. read more

I brought my beloved kitty in for what should have been a cake walk....just a day visit, to test his glucose, as he was diabetic. He was on his game, feeling perky, mischievous and full of energy. Dropped him off first thing in the morning.....greeted with a grumpy staff member, she has been here for sometime. I have been frequenting this vet for over 15 years, I trusted all my pets with him. Something went terribly wrong with his visit. Picked him up around 5......took a long time to get him. The same woman ,I had initially dropped him off with, was having a melt down because she spotted a client she did not want to wait on heading toward the door. She went in the back after complaining in front a lot of us about this lady. How embarrassing for this business to have this happen, unacceptable!!! On checking out, I was charged 2 separate times too much, got that straightened out and finally we were on our way. Early the next morning he was in dire pain....I called and was told they would relay this to the Dr. Irwin.......a few hours passed after no calls back to me, so I called again.....was told to take him to an emergency vet. WHAT???? Apparently, Dr. Irwin told the staff for me to come get pain meds and he would see him the next day. This was not relayed to me and I believe he would still be here with me today if it had. I don't hold Dr. Irwin accountable for his demise, but I do for the staff. I had to put him down by a totally different vet....I'm heartbroken and will never get over this. read more

Dr. Irwin and his staff are the best I have ever known in the veterinarian business in Washington State, and I have been taking many cats and dogs to them for years. I trust them because they are knowledgable, personable and do a quick fantastic job. They look after your pet when you are not there and treat them like you expect a vet to treat them, which is humanely and decently. They do not charge you for ridiculous items, (like sharp disposal fees), and are not in it for 'the money'. They are independent of a big business chain. It has truly been a blessing to take my pets to them for their care and I highly recommend them, even if it is out of your way, it is well worth it. They still take care of medical surgeries that new veterinarians often lack the experience for thus you do not have to go to a 'specialist' for many procedures that Dr. Irwin knows how to manage in his practice. read more

Doctor Irwin has been our vet for over 32 years and has tended to all our animals throughout that time frame. Doctor Irwin knows his stuff and is compassionate and easy to talk with , especially when dealing with end of life situations. He is open to hearing about treatments outside of those that are traditional in the field, but can tell you right off what will work and what will not. His staff is also very caring and they aren't afraid to jump right in and get their hands dirty and even a couple of times, have allowed me to bring a dog in for treatment even while they were closing for the night. Absolutely love this vet! They are so nice & you can tell they really care about my dogs. They work with you and their prices are very reasonable. The vet is awesome too. Very knowledgeable, friendly, caring and doesn't push to spay or neuter my dogs (which as a breeder, vets that do just piss me off more than anything). Most recently I was very impressed that he saw my laboring female on short notice (on a surgery only day even!) to see her and the pups after one pup got stuck inside. We ended up loosing the pup, but they we just so nice about it. When we were leaving my girl was all stressed out & the pups were crying and I'm fumbling with my wallet & they tell me to just pay at my next appointment in a couple days. We have been using this veterinary clinic for 13 years, we have had our older dogs pass away, we have had new puppies coming in for shots and we always get our annual done here. When my dog passed they were kind and understanding, they didn't suggest a whole bunch of unneeded tests or procedure. They even sent a sympathy card afterwards. The veterinarian is wonderful with all dogs we have had and great with me as I've fallen apart when I've lost one of my dogs. I highly recommend this clinic, I now live an hour and a half away and I still drive to Minter Clinic because I know they will take care of my babies as if they were their own! read more

We're new to the area and needed to find a new vet for our 2 dogs and 3 cats. Dr Jeff is very kind and did a great job with our zoo. One of the things I most appreciate is his philosophy regarding vaccines. He will inoculate as necessary, but will not add unnecessary vaccines just to pad his bill. His prices are reasonable, and his staff is just as interested in the welfare of our pets as we are. We've been there several times over the last 4 months with our kittens and have every intention of staying with Minter Vet Clinic for years. Dr Irwin is the best vet on the Peninsula. You won't find a more compassionate man and vet. He and his staff will always care about you and your pets. He will take the time to explain things to you. When we had to put our dog down,I couldn't go,but my husband said Dr Jeff stay with him and our dog til he passed. Dr Jeff and one of his techs stayed the whole time and comforted my husband. The best veterinarian I have found in the last 20 years. I have lived here in the Gig Harbor/Port Orchard area and have taken my dogs to several vets and I would love to name them and tell you how frustrated I have been with these other vets, including a couple places in Tacoma, and don't even get me started on the emergency and specialists, but I would rather tell you that the minute I brought several, several all at once, sick dogs to Dr. Irwin, he understood exactly what was going on, what to do and was the only vet that agreed with me about the right medicine to get them over a horrible giardia, worm infestation that resulted in yeast all over my Standard Poodle's body, my 15 year old female pit bull, whose liver values were through the roof, our other Standard Poodle and the rest of our smaller dogs. He is super smart, super kind, listens and gets it. His approach is sensible and effective. He is also generous with his time and his staff is responsible to all the clients and I've seen clients first hand who have treated the staff a bit rough and the girls have maintained the proper professionalism. I have referred several friends to him and I'm telling you go and take your dogs, cats, whatever to this vet. I love this vet and I finally no longer have that "ugh" when the dogs get sick because I know he isn't going to push prednisone or stupid drugs on me and I was really surprise by the affordable cost of the treatments - that shocked the heck out of me. See, I have seen the bills at other clinics and just want to slap these veterinarians because every single year the same medicine or treatment increases big time. I have several dogs so I know what things cost and it's ridiculous. Want an example - fluids, a bag for $25 dollars when they were charging $10 the prior year. Or an herb call Yunnan Baiyao to stop bleeding in dogs is $9 - $15 online and I was charged $75 at Summit when my dog was dying. Or how about charging me $325 to express my dog's anal glands - I fought the vet on that one and I won. Oh and here's a recent one, at a Tacoma location, charged me $18 dollars to do nails on 2 dogs when I was there trying to get help for them and my bill was over $500. Got home and the nails had not been clipped whatsoever. I call my bank and stop the charges. So it's not just one place but several that seem to be ok with taking advantage of people, however, you won't experience this with Dr. Irwin and I have only started taking my pets there. His 5 star reviews were what did it for me... WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG? read more

I have been taking my beautiful border collie to a vet in Renton for many years. Back in April, that vet wanted to put my dog down because she has a extremely large growth in her belly. I then took my dog to Dr. Irwin, and he has determined that she isn't in any pain & she may have another year or so. My dog is 15 years young and looks and acts like she is still a puppy, thank you Dr. Irwin. He is very knowledgable and extremely gentle and caring.
