The front desk person is fantastically and exquisitely condescending, dismissive, rude, and even combative if you try to stand up for yourself or disagree with her. Every single (EVERY SINGLE!) time we bring our pets in for routine care, they suggest tests or treatment the pets don't need. We appreciate guidance but want to have a voice in our animals' care, and we don't agree that adding medication as a first course of action is always best. This last visit, we decided against one of their suggestions (more pills), and we were accused of neglecting our pets. We will be leaving this clinic immediately. Also, nobody likes being fleeced. Veterinary care is getting stupid expensive, so it would be nice to know that they were a little mindful of our pocketbook (care for four dogs and three cats adds up) a little bit. I joked with my husband two visits ago that the cash grab was getting insane, and sure enough, here we are. Run, don't walk, from this place unless you have money to burn. read more

This is a new vet that just purchased this business , not the one that owned it for 31 years. Took our healthy 11 year old miniature dachshund to see this vet on April 6th to examine what ended up being an operable hernia. He also received a rabies vaccine. This vet expressed our dog's anal glands without our knowledge or approval. After arriving home, he vomited and defecated everything in his system. Took him back, the vet confirmed he had nothing in his stomach, sent him home with an antibiotic and probiotic that needed to be taken with food. Never suggested an IV, not once!! The vet knew that he wasn't eating or drinking because he was so, so sick and lethargic. Our baby passed away that evening! He hadn't seen a vet in 4 years . I wish I had never made that appointment with this incompetent and uncaring vet! read more

After two years of bringing my Rottie Grace to this practice, I cannot recommend them enough. They are so patient and friendly here(humans and fur babies alike). My dog is a bundle of love, energy and jumping joy wrapped up in 100lbs of puppy and they are just amazing at handling her! The practice is run efficiently and easily, there can be wait times, but that is due to others loving this place as much as we do. I'm so thankful we have this little gem on the KP. read more

This Vet is a scam artist and a liar who takes advantage of peoples love for their pets. I brought my four month old puppy to her for his last set of puppy shots. When I made the appointment they booked me out a few weeks and I asked if it would still be in the time frame required and was told it would be close but still fine. When I get there the first thing the vet said was ' oh he is a bit late you will need to come back in a week for an extra booster' . I could have gone to another vet to make sure he was on schedule. And then during the exam she tells me that heart worms are moving up from the south and an eagle can fly over and poop and my dog eat it so I should start him on heartworm meds. Then she just gives me the bill no breakdown its all weird cuz of covid protocals ect so I am nervous my puppy is jumping all over ect and the bill is $220. I get home and look at the items and see this heartmeds are $80. I am on disability and could never afford that and had she told me the price I would have immediately chocked and said no but because she used my love to con me into it without telling me the price I agreed. WOW. It must have been a full moon when the last two Yelpers posted their review. I have been to Brookside 3 times now and each time I have a great experience. While I have not had any major issues with my pets, they usually just get their shots and a quick checkup, each time I am greeting with a smile, and they are prompt in service while not making me wait around. My fellow guests seem very happy and friendly upon each visit, so it makes me lead to beleive that most of Brookside's clients either 1. do not own a computer or 2. have not heard of Yelp. Once word gets out, I think Dr. Woods's impressive facility and staff will get the credit that they truly deserve. If I were you I wouldn't take ANY of my animals here! They seem to only care about money and the vet I saw lied to my face about my cat!!!! She told me my cat has a heart mummer, BUT it's nothing to worry about. She said her weight has significantly dropped since her last visit. I had explained that she's been vomiting often. The very told me these are all symptoms of a thyroid problem. I asked her about her mouth SPECIFICALLY where I had to pull her tooth out and I told her that they even have the tooth because I brought it in prior. She didn't seen to care, but her response was, " Oh yeah everything looks fine." I has been a few mins late and my appointment was an appointment where I could be in the room with her. I called when I parked and the gal told me it was now going to be a " curbside " visit. I started crying and I told her I have a lot on my plate and I want understanding why it has to all the sudden be a curbside visit?" She said the vet only has a certain amount of time set aside for each appointment which I get, but here you can't be late AT ALL I guess. She put me on hold and then she said sometime was coming out to get me. I apologize while crying to the vet tech and the vet a couple times. They were so snobby! The appointment took literally like 10-15 mins! I gave the go ahead for the test that they wanted to run. The visit and tests cost over $200. So, when they called with the results I wasn't happy! They said they found blood in her urine and she was going to have to eat these chew things for probably the rest of her life. Also, the gal started going over the vets notes with me and said that my cat had problems with her teeth!?! I was so mad because I ASKED HER about her mouth/teeth and she lied to my face. I asked told the gal this wasn't told to me and she said, " Well the vet didn't think it was a priority compared to her other issues so it was out on the back burner." This floored me!!! She proceeded to tell me that her thyroid levels were normal, but elevated and they needed to run an extra test that would cost an additional $75. I told her that me and my dad weren't understanding this? If she has the symptoms and her thyroid levels are elevated why aren't they going to treat her? She kept pushing this $75 test and said they have an oath to uphold and can just hand out meds. I said to her, " You guys also have a responsibility to take care of your patients and I expect to be told about ALL issues going on with my animals no matter what!" I asked her if she could understand why I was upset? I asked her if she understood that the vet lied to me and understood why that made me upset? She said, " No I don't." I asked to speak to someone higher up. She said they were in surgery, but she would have them give me a call as soon as they were out of surgery. 8 HOURS 8 HOURS passed and I never heard anything back from anyone. So, I called back. The gal told me that I wasn't authorized on the account, even the I've been bringing out animals in calling them having prescriptions refilled making appointments, and they could no longer discuss anything with me!?! I said, but she's MY cat! The gal said, " Then we can create your own account." She said she had just got done calling my dad. I told her he knows all about everything that's going on and she said oh that's good. I told her he's not happy. She said he can sign a release for me and then all the sudden everything will be ok again. This place is TERRIBLE and they neglect your pets! It's absolutely ridiculous that because I was upset about the vet lying to me that all the sudden now I want allowed to have access to the " account " like at a doctors office. My dad spoke with the manager and she said my cats thyroid levels aren't elevated enough, even though the vet told me to my face she had the symptoms of this thyroid problem, to treat her for this thyroid problem. My dad already had told me he didn't understand why we needed to pay another $75 for what seemed to be an unnecessary test. So, I'm thinking that he was told what he was told because her didn't want to shell out more money. They don't seem to really care about our pets at all! The gal I spoke with had even told me, " Well I want in the room so......" and, " I just work the front desk so....." She said that our conversation just kept going in circles so I could discuss things with the person who would be " calling me back " which she should have never told me that, especially since she probably was planning on complaining about me and never had any intention of having anyone call me back. I'm EXTREMELY worried about my cat! There's no way I'm taking her back there. I'm probably going to start going back to Purdy Vet which we have always gone to and they actually care about your pets. read more

I took my 10 year old lab mix in for a knee injury and she was seen by Dr. Hank Snelgrove. We were able to get a same day appointment and received great customer service. Dr. Snelgrove was very informative and provided TLC to our injured dog. I thought he was quite personable, compassionate and his knowledge along with years of experience gave us great confidence that our dog was in good hands. I also want to give KUDOS to the CVA who gave our dog laser therapy to make her more comfortable. read more

Dr. Woods was extremely focused on collecting! She was very aggressive and pushy, her attitude, that is. The girls at the front desk exchanged many looks and raised brows with each other, it was a horrid experience... I had to go elsewhere.. vet was very unprofessional. I would never recommend them. Vet is extremely focused on fees over care. Simply put. When she came in to the exam room, she immediately started stating prices for this, for that. I was kind of a little amazed.. wow.. but .. can you help my little dog? Something was hurting her under her tail, and she wouldn't let me examine her. Yelping, etc.. It turned out to be compressed or compacted anal glands, one had burst, the other was about to. It was hard to see her writhing around, with this grim, small, sharp eyed vet calculating, thinking, very controlled looking .. she almost made me laugh but I quickly decided to take my dog to another place. I really think there is something mentally wrong with this veterinarian. I would never recommend this place. read more

Can't believe I haven't reviewed them yet! I've been bringing my dogs to Brookside for 14 years now. They've been with us through the loss of a dog, and they shared my heartbreak and made it so much more bearable. I love the caring staff, and their easy-going nature. Going to the vet is stressful for pets and parents, even in the best of circumstances. Having a friendly and well-run office really helps. My sweet baby dog who turns a year old this month has been going to Brookside since he was 8 weeks old. they love on him, love seeing him, and are very gentle with him. Bringing my dog to them has been such a great experience. First, my dog actually likes Doctor Ryan, and I felt like they legitimately cared for the well being of her. So dissapointed. My family and I have used this clinic for years. Dr. Woods is amazing, but the rest of the staff is lacking. First and foremost issue was our pup who we brought in multiple times for hip/leg pain. They wrote it off as arthritis each time, even after an emergency appointment when our tough girl had cried through the night. Still passed it off as arthritis and dismissed any further examining requests. Fast forward to a second consult with Purdy Vet who took her straight back for x-rays and found she had a completely torn CCL. Second issue was trying to acquire Trifexis. Each time it was as if their policies had changed. Needed a refill every six months and they refused unless we brought her in for an office visit, at which point we would be billed for an annual exam. One vet tech attempted to come out to the lobby to take a blood sample even though I warned her not to approach our dog as she did. It resulted in her being muzzled and dragged off to the back. If they tell you that you can request a refill from 1800petmeds, don't believe them. They'll deny the refill and call you to schedule an exam. I am so dissapointed, it was so nice a few years ago but the staff is so dismissive, more interested in a quick buck than fixing an issue. Purdy vet is our new go to! read more

Every time my dogs and I come in, they know us by name and am always greeted with a smile. They treat my dogs as if they are theirs. I've taken my "pups" to Brookside for 11 years, now, from their puppy shots and now going into old age. They are a busy vet office; that tells me that they are trusted by many people. However, I have never had a problem getting either of my goldens in to see someone. If I couldn't get in as early as I would have liked, the front office would go ask the vet(s) any recommendations for me or questions I had and would call me back while I waited by the phone, usually within 5 minutes. I did have a few after-hour emergencies in the past, and Brookside would always recommend local places, of which there are WAY too few. I just recently had a scary episode with my older "pup", and Lisa squeezed me in before her first patient of the very full day. Costs of service are always clarified before care, recommendations and reasons for the need of blood tests, etc., are given and no guilt trip if I decide to forego any recommendations. I trust Lisa; I know she has the health of my pups at the top of her list, and I know that she has guidelines that she has to follow so she can keep her license and practice going. I must admit, I would have been VERY disappointed if I couldn't have gotten my pup in for the recent problem, after my trust and loyalty to their practice. They did not let me down. They did not let my pup down. I hope as long as I have dogs that Lisa is a practicing vet! read more

Before getting our lab puppy I had called a couple vets to ask some general questions, Nobody I spoke to was as helpful and patient with ALL my questions as Ruth at Brookside Animal Hospital. I actually called a couple times! When our puppy FINALLY came home from the breeder we decided to go to Brookside due to the great interaction we had on the phone. This was the Best desision EVER! If you are within 50 miles of Brookside, this is the place to take your pets. Dr. Woods works with large animals as well as house pets and I first met her when my goat was having a difficult delivery. Dr. Woods was at dinner in Lakewood and I wasn't even a client at the time, but she rushed back to her clinic as I rushed Mama Goat there. Still dressed in her out-to-dinner clothes, Dr. Woods gowned up and delivered twins. They all would have died without her efforts. Her clinic has grown and there are other Drs. there now and I've had good services from them as well. The atmosphere there is "The animals come first" and all the people reflect that from the moment you walk through the door. Or even when you first call for an appointment. The prices are comparable to or a little under some other clinics. I won't take my pets anywhere else--well, unless it's an after hours emergency, of course. Except it was after hours with the goat, and the emergency care place couldn't handle it, so she did. I'm sorry some others have had less than satisfactory experiences, but I'm guessing there's another side to those stories. I recommend this clinic wholeheartedly. read more

The worst!! If I could leave zero stars I would. They will take care of your pet as long as it is convenient. TWO times now they have turned us away in near emergent situations. The last straw. My horse tumbled my dog, no obvious injuries but he could have been injured. They told us they were closing in 15 minutes and we should go to the ER which is about an hour away. MOST vets would have assessed and if necessary stabilized before sending to an emergency clinic ESPECIALLY when it is an hour away. First time they told us our dog probably had oral cancer and needed xrays to be sure, HE WAS NOT EATING and they were unable to make that appointment for over 3 weeks, because he was not eating, we took him to Summit that day the doctor there said there was NO doubt xrays were not necessary. We had them come out over the weekend to put him down.I would NEVER recommend this place. read more

Not the place to take any animal you value or love. The staff is great, but Dr. Woods seems to not be able to diagnose, much less treat animals with serious health issues or injuries, or aging animals. Some of the meds prescribed for conditions are obsolete, and are no longer prescribed by newer/younger/better trained vets. She is only good for the basics...shots, minor bumps and bruises. Has misdiagnosed my animal with a life threatening disease, only to find out that it was just the normal aging process. The meds she prescribed would have killed my dog if I had chosen to listen to her and not seek a second opinion. Yes, she is costly, but I firmly believe the price is long forgotten if the quality is delivered. Not in her case...she is a 007...license to kill. read more

Lisa has been our family vet for 20+ years since she opened. She was there when our puppies were born, the two times our dog fell off the deck, when our dog of 16 years needed light therapy, and countless times since. Lisa continues to be my personal vet now that my parents have moved to Nevada. My dog Ceila has only had the best care by Lisa and her staff. I currently drive from Seattle to see this incredible team. Recently I had a scare with Ceila, and called Brookside to get their advice and they were absolutely wonderful. They referred me to animal hospitals in Seattle if immediate attention was needed (if symptoms progressed) and said to call them if we were admitted so they could follow up on her care. I only wish more people could experience the incredible care that Lisa and her team have given our family since her practice opened in Gig Harbor. I cannot express enough gratitude for all the care and compassion that Lisa and her team have shown our family and our furry family members over the years. We feel extremely blessed to have found such an honest and caring vet team. read more

I will be switching my dog's care back to Purdy Vet after my visit today. I think the vet and workers are great, however there are a ton of hidden charges and pressure to upsell other options. Prior to bringing my dog in I called Brookside to ask if I would have to pay the $68 exam fee to clean my Golden Retriever's ears. I was told no as he has had an exam in the last year and bloodwork. I booked the appointment. Once it was time for me to pay, it was VERY expensive (compared to Purdy Vet ear cleaning). I asked why and was told I was charged the $68 exam fee. I would feel better paying the exam fee if my dog had an actual exam. The only exam I got was belly rubs, and a flip off the ear to show me what they were going to do. No looking inside the ear with a piece of equipment to confirm yeast infection or anything. At least when I paid for the $50 exam fee at Purdy Vet the doc looked inside the ear with a light, smelled, and confirmed yeast infection. The reason I will no longer go to this vet is because I called and confirmed no $68 exam fee. This place is too expensive with hidden charges to be able to afford proper care for my dogs. I just started using Brookside this year after 30 years with Peninsula Pet Hospital. PPH had been very good me up until this year when they sold out to a corporation. Now their staff and vets are rude, and don't appear to care about my animal. Brookside, on the other hand, absolutely everybody I've dealt with from the receptionist, to the technician, to Lisa have all been GREAT! It is quite a schlep from my house, across the Purdy Bridge but it is well worth it to have a competent veterinary clinic. So sad to lose a long trusted practice but am so happy to have found a new one. I recommend them highly. read more

WE LOVE THIS PLACE! Our kitty had a fever, wasn't eating, was very lethargic and hadn't pooped in a week. The first vet we went to took xrays (all we could afford and that was over $300) and sent us home with instructions to feed her wet food and make her move around more (and just how we were to make a very lethargic kitty do that???). A week later she still didn't poop. We went to Brookside. They took blood and urine for testing at a very reasonable price *and* sent us home with Subcutaneous fluids with needles, showed us how to do it and suggested wet food and pumpkin. Called the next day with test results and treatment. In 2 days our kitty was MUCH better and passed some hard dry poops and improved tremendously after that. She's still on the road to recovery, but the vet called us today for a follow up to see how she was doing. Now we know where to go if we ever need to. Thank you Brookside! read more
