I came to Minzer's Optical to redo lenses after a bad experience elsewhere. My doctor's prescription called for a segment height of 27, but the lab came back at 26.5. When I explained I couldn't see my laptop or phone at arm's length, a real problem for someone who works on screens all day, I was told to get separate computer glasses instead of getting the prescription right. I paid 218 dollars in cash for this. When I pushed back, the optician tried to fix it by shaving down the lenses to raise the segment height. He said he got it to 27.5, but I still can't see my screen properly. In the process, he scratched my left lens. I left without a working pair of glasses and no way to dispute the charge since I paid cash. I don't recommend coming here if you need multifocal or progressive lenses done correctly the first time. read more

GREAT PLACE! My family has been going here for 20+ years. Very affordable. Friendly helpful staff. Now they have designer frames, so what if they're not the latest. I like what looks good on me. I bought a pair of designer frames with a slight progressive and tint, for under $100, and it only took 3 days. My sons always get there glasses done, the same day. You can either bring a prescription, a pair of glasses or they'll examine you, no extra charge. Cash or cc accepted. Parking is a challenge because they are located down the block from Maimonides Hospital and up the street from a school. Closed on Fridays and Saturdays. I believe this is the one in the basement that sharess the office with Maimonides Optical and Dr. Norman Sarffa. The store isn't anything fancy, but they get the job done RIGHT. I got a pair here back in the day. My brother comes here yearly for glasses. Not a rip off like ALL the ones on 8ave. Even though I went in shortly before closing on a Sunday, and there were several customers in line, they were able to get to me and successfully fix my glasses. I had one pair needing a part replaced and one needing to be put back into shape / straightened out. I wasn't sure whether any of it would be able to be done, but the employee had excellent technical skills. Since they know what they are doing, I may try them for a new pair in the future. This place is THE BEST!!! I got two pair of glasses: 1 Kate Spade frame ($98) and lenses ($30 I think) and another frame ($58) and lenses ($30). Such good deals! They had even better deals, too! Most of the frames I saw ranged from $24-$40 dollars or so, and they were really cute! I found a bunch that I liked - it was a really tough decision. Then I just waited 25 minutes and my glasses were ready! That's insane! I'm so used to waiting a week or more to get my glasses. I love this place. Just FYI: No one is going to help you find glasses that look good on you here; that's all on you. So you might want to come with someone who can help you. read more

My last pair of glasses cost 2/3 less than the opticians I also go to even with my insurance. As businesses go there are great ones and there are less than great ones. If you engage them in conversation they are more than willing to answer your needs and save you a lot of money. Everything everyone has said about store, for the most part is spot on. This was my third visit to the store in just as many years. This time I ordered a pair of 'computer' glasses and a pair of sunglasses. Took about an hour. At the end of the day it was getting busy and I had a long drive back, so I took the glasses without really trying them on. My mistake. When I got home, I noticed that the lenses in the sunglasses were not the same color and the frame did not close properly. Mistakes happen and had I not been in a rush to get back home this surely would have been noticed. Long story short, I went back the next day. Mr. Minzer and his staff could not have been nicer. They explained that they could grind down the lenses so that the frame could close and could also re-tint the lenses but it would take a couple of hours. I noticed first how dirty they were, only to put them on and realize how crooked they were. My new Tom Ford frames are now missing a peice, filthy and ill fitted. I was first introduced to Minzer's through Dr Norman Saffra and his associates who practice upstairs. Tiny storefront tucked in the basement and behind another eye doctor's office. It's like the middle child getting no attention at all. Truthfully you will not be able to find this place unless directed by the doctors next door of upstairs to them. This is by-far the most affordable optical store I've seen in the boroughs, carrying big names and the no names. The guys here are extremely efficient though can be a bit arrogant at times. After losing my glasses and needing new ones asap, I searched everywhere online to find an affordable place with same day glasses service. I came across places like cohens and lens crafters that promised huge discounts but in reality have a huge markup on all glasses - which would have ended up costing at least $400 for one pair. Finally, THANK G-d, I found this gem. This place really saved the day. They have a great selection of frames - from very basic like 25$ ones, to the expensive gucci and what not. I selected 2 pairs of the more basic glasses (since i lose mine all the time anyway) and gave the man my prescription. This place is the best. Seriously. Nice selection of frames, cheap as all heck, and speedy, professional service. When my daughter's insured $300 glasses broke after less than two months of light wear, the original optician told me I was plumb out of luck unless I wanted to pay to have them replaced, which would take at least a week or more. At Minzer's: 1. I was able to buy two new pairs of glasses for my daughter for $100 total. Glasses were ready for her in under an hour. 2. If that wasn't enough, Minzer's attempted to fix the original broken frames for free. When they couldn't fix it, they popped the lenses into a new frames. No charge for labor or for new frames. The trek to borough park was completely worth it. A friend of mine who lived in the neighborhood raved about this place, so I had to give it a try. I would recommend going with a friend to help you pick out frames. Unlike sales diven optical stores that try to upsell the crap out of you, this place is no frills. Most of the staff are actually working: making lenses and adjusting frames. With that said, many of the frames are less than $50 and regular leases are about $20-30 more. They do carry some designer frames but most aren't popular brands. This doesn't mean they aren't quality or durable. You can expect to have you frames in less than an hour. I have been getting eye glasses for myself and family here for over 30 + years. Wouldn't think of going anywhere else. I wear progressive, transitional glasses and I like designer Italian made frames which could easily run $700-800 elsewhere. I also use prescription computer glasses and sunglasses and like to have an emergency pair, too. Here it is very affordable and the work is excellent. I get several pair of glasses for the price of one elsewhere. If you have any problems with your glasses they are very accommodating in making adjustments. When the kids were home I never worried about lost or broken glasses. They could easily be replaced at a very reasonable price. People from all over come here and even my ophthalmologist says many of his patients use Minzer and he never finds a problem with the glasses. Though parking may be a problem given the location, it is definitely worth the effort. So give them a try and see for yourself. read more

The best affordable glasses place I've ever been to! Excellent customer service and fabulous prices! I came in with no expectations having been disappointed twice-- once in at my optician's office since they only cover glasses or contacts, I went with contacts there and glasses at Warby Parker. But even though the Warby Parker at 86th Street has amazing customer service, I just have very heavy prescription and so unknowingly I ordered a wider frame which distorted my field of vision. I was later told that Warby Parker which makes flatter lenses, the bigger frames may not work for ppl with astigmatism and high prescription like me. I was really disappointed and so after trying Warby Parker for a week after they helped me adjust the fit some, I returned my $220 glasses. I just felt like I was in a dis place the whole time I wore those glasses. Then I went back to my original optician office and they charged me nearly $400 out of pocket for new frames and lens. They basically had no return policy at my optician's and said it would be under store credit so I would be stuck with them. I especially wanted transitions and I wanted flexibility. I went to Chinatown to shop around and they only had transitions that had to be with Crizal's which was a French-made ultra high tech lens that is $400 just for the lens alone. Other places that didn't offer Crizal's didn't have much choice in frames. And here is where I come to Minzer's opticals. The first time I came, they were closed for a Jewish holiday so always call ahead! When I did come, I was in a rush bc had to meet some friends for dimsum and omg there were so many choices of BRAND NAME frames and the lens were so affordable! He told me to pick a frame once I gave him my prescription. It was that easy! And he also KNEW right away that I needed a smaller frame bc my prescription was high. So smart!! I ended paying $98 for an Armani Exchange sleek frames and total was $250 with transitions. He gave me a huge discount. Originally $25 or so more but he rounded it down to a nice even $250 and didn't even charge me their standard $7 shipping. He shipped those glasses right to my apartment along with a tracking number when I called and it arrived just in time. They are so nice and customer oriented. Will definitely be coming back, if not for lens for frames for sure. read more
