    Daughter playing in the playground
    Maritess C.

My daughter wanted to go to a park nearby so this was close to where we were. As we pulled up, there's a small parking lot up front. There were two restrooms located in front near the parking lot. As we walked into the park, there was a few tables underneath a gazebo. Very nice and clean. I decided to sit at the bench underneath the gazebo to take a rest since I was driving all over the place. My daughter ran in the kids playground. There was a swing set and a play set that had two slides. It's a fairly small park and luckily it wasn't busy. There were only a few people there which was nice. I typically don't like crowds when I'm trying to relax and get some fresh air. This location seems secluded as it's hidden in a residential area. I'd definitely come back to enjoy the scenery here. A cool park to hang out at.

This park has a great view of Miramar Lake and a pretty great view of San Diego. I say a pretty great view of San Diego since from this park you can see out in the distance on a clear day the Coronado Islands, Point Loma, Tijuana, Cowles and Fortunate mountain which in my opinion is pretty cool! It's interesting to see it from a different perspective. This park is small with one little walking roundabout. It is mainly good for taking the kiddos to entertain themselves in the play area. There are also a few gazebos to have a small party or enjoy a nice picnic. Parking is limited but the park itself is clean so it is very pleasant. Would come here again when the kiddo is a bit bigger and would enjoy and appreciate the playground much more. Don't get confused about some of the reviews which may have mistaken this park for Miramar Lake instead! Not the park to go to if you want to get a walking/running workout in unless you want to do that in place.

A very small park with a few parking spots. It does have a great view of miramar lake and the rest of Mira Mesa. A few covered areas and swings make this place a must visit.

Nice little park with a view of Miramar Lake below. The playground is small and the kids lose interest faster here than at larger parks. Also, there isn't a large flat grass field to play on. There are covered picnic tables but really it's all about the view here.

There is SO much to do here, and the park is absolutely stunning and very well maintained. When living downtown, I was here pretty much every weekend. I love walking through the park, running the trails, and bringing my dog. The dog park is huge and gives them plenty of room to run around, which is a major plus. You could easily spend hours just walking and exploring everything Balboa Park has to offer. Between the trails, architecture, museums, gardens, recreational areas, and incredible history, there is always something to see or do. Even after coming here so often, I still enjoy simply walking around and taking it all in. The history and architecture are really what make Balboa Park special. It's beautiful, full of character, and such an incredible part of San Diego. Whether you want to exercise, walk your dog, explore, have a picnic, visit a museum, or just enjoy being outside, this park has something for everyone. An easy 5/5 for me. One of the places that makes me love San Diego!

Lately, with temperatures 10 to 19° above "normal average" - or maybe it's just the new normal - it's hard to recall the last time we got to experience a cool day. But here, the way the gazebos, tables, and benches are set up reflects a pretty severe case of denial that this is Southern California, and not quite within walking distance from the beach. It WILL get hot whenever it damn pleases, with or without notice. It did so in February already, in case you missed it. We came a few times for the farmers market. Both days were unfortunately " 80°F" her weather report, which in reality feels like 92°F, and we had to scramble to find a little bit of shade, so that we could eat our street food without passing out from heat stroke. We huddled awkwardly on the curb under a small tree. Other people passing by with food in their hands looked at us with envy. NOT A SINGLE PERSON sat on the readily available benches with tables, because they were in the blazing sun, yet lacked any shade. Never mind an umbrella, not even holes to put one in!! Denial much?? It's really sad, because it's a beautiful place. It just DESPERATELY needs more shade for the visitors to feel comfortable without clinging to trees or the bathroom walls.

There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool.
