I was at sams club and someone recommended me this restaurant and told me that I am going to love it and yes he was right, this is true Pakistani authentic food with minimal ingredients and spices but they taste is just out of this world. We were craving Indian food, and this was the only sit down option. Pleasant surprise, especially after looking at ratings. Pros: Delicious food, family owned, good options, freshly made, Naan to die for! Don't expect a fancy restaurant, but rather a nice, local joint. My wife and I took our 2 sons here. We had been here once before. We had the Samosa Chaat and Garlic Naan for an appetizer. Creeper spice, but not too hot. Our boys had Gyros that were huge. This place is great. I love ordering togo or delivery for when I am studying and want something besides what I can make in the dorm! I love the butter chicken which is great if you are not someone who likes major spice. You get a side of rice with just about anything and they are always faster then they say they will be when rattling off a cooking time. I have found that mondays are usually the busiest time, if you order food to go but its still great. The owner is practically always there and is so friendly. This is also a great place for vegan and vegetarian options. All the food I have tried is so flavorful and delicious. The gyro sandwich was probably the messiest food item that I have ordered from there, but stiol really good. If the place is busy the owner will offer you free dessert for being so patient while you wait. I just love this place and look forward to trying new things each time I go. read more

The food here is amazing and so is the owner/staff! From what I can tell, the owner does most of the work himself from cooking to taking orders, etc. It's nice to see that he has help sometimes. My boyfriend and I order for pickup weekly if not monthly. It's always our go-to when we don't want to cook. A lot of the dishes are delicious, but we often find ourselves ordering the pepper chicken, garlic naan and cheese naan over and over. And if we're feeling like a sweet drink, mango lassi is what we go for! If you enjoy spicy food 10/10 recommend eating here. If you don't like spicy food, just ask the owner or the staff what dishes are more mild. You can always do some research as well to find what dishes are more "chili spicy" or "savory spicy"! I love Indian cuisine but unfortunately do not live in an area to enjoy it regularly. Having said that, I was pleased to do a quick yelp search and find Mirch Masala Grill nearby on a quick trip through Waterloo. Even better that they offer online ordering which I took advantage of through Yelp. I decided to try the butter chicken, garlic naan, cheese naan and mozzarella sticks. The order wasn't quite ready when I arrived after 30 minutes. Which seemed strange since there was no one dining in and it didn't appear there were other takeout orders, but I wasn't in a hurry and didn't mind waiting. The food came out hot and fresh. By the time I made it home it had cooled off a bit and tbh some quality was probably compromised in my drive home. The butter chicken had nice tender pieces of chicken, but I wish there was more cream present so it wasn't as heavy of tomato. When it came to the naan, I really didn't care for it. The cheese naan had cream cheese, which made it very heavy and rich and both varieties were very thick, which is probably a preference issue but I didn't really care for it. The mozzarella cheese sticks; maybe because of my drive home rather than immediate consumption but they were not good. I'd pass on those for future reference. Overall the prices were fair and it was an okay meal, would probably try ordering something different next time but wouldn't hesitate to go back. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Avoid at all costs. I'm a huge fan of Indian food, but this place is the type of food that would turn anyone off from the cuisine. Everything was oily and dark and strangely bland. We got several items, but most notably the Chana masala looked nothing like the food pictured on Yelp. The sauce was brown and the chick peas were putrid. I'm am extremely confident this dish gave me food poisoning. I took two bites and threw it away. I can't stress this enough, avoid this place at all costs! Your colon will thank me. I also want to add that this place is incredibly unsanitary. We saw cigarettes in their floor vents and It also didn't help that they were butchering two headless lambs in plains sight on the same table our food was being prepped on. Honestly pretty impressive, slightly above-average food for a spot in Cedar Falls. Super flavorful, good service, never too busy inside which is nice considering it's right on campus, and they deliver. I few downsides tho that should be pointed out. And I was buying my friend a b-day dinner before our NYE Show, our last meal of 2013 better make it good right, so we indulged on Veggie Samosa's, rice, 2 dinner orders and he got Naan. First off the Samosa's were incredible and come in orders of 3, so there were 6 on the table for two people don't worry we cleaned our plates! My friend Chris ordered veggie Okra that looked amazing and he said it was, I had Chana Masala which was a little watery for my taste but I have had worse and the Samosa's were so good I can't really complain. I absolutely love it I've been a regular here for probably 4 years. I get takeout a lot especially on Mondays. I've had the majority of the menu and it's all very good and diverse. My only complaint is that i often order jalapeño poppers to go and sometimes get mozzarella sticks instead. I don't know if this is because they run out and don't inform me of an alternative or because someone who works here is confused but it seems to happen once a month lol. read more

I am uber envious that there is a Pakistani restaurant in Cedar Falls and none in the Twin Cities. Well I had the opportunity to try this place on my trip to this city and was glad that I did. My favorites at this place are the Chappli Kabab and the BBQ Roll with Seekh Kabab. Both were truly great. The staff at the restaurant was really kind to us when me and my family visited. We also drank the karak chai with Carrot Halwa at the end. Super delicious. They have a seating/decor problem and I encourage the owners to revamp it. A lot of space is taken by the serving counter and there are too many things that they are trying to sell. If the space was used more efficiently they could seat lot more people in this location. The bathrooms was very clean. The service was really good and the food was excellent. Definietly worth a try for sure read more

I have been here technically twice. The first time was mediocre. Food was in fact very decent so I can see why ppl give 4 stars (5 stars are u kidding me?!), but service was like fXxxing slow consider we were the only people there at the time. The whole place smelt like gas, and still does this time. This round they have some sort of pump going on underground, so it shook the whole time we sat there. We went into the place, it wasn't packed but we saw a lot of delivery going on as it was lunch time. After a while we got menu, no water or anything. As we read the menu for about 5 minutes, another couple ladies came in. After about 10 minutes, the ladies got greeted and food ordered, and the dude just left without realizing we were there, did as much visual contact as possible. I was traveling to Dubuque after doing some mountain biking near Webster City and hoped to find some tasty ethnic cuisine in Cedar Falls rather than hit up any number of Subways along the interstate. Well Yelp and Mirch Masala did not disappoint and I was pleasantly rewarded for my short detour. The spicy baby goat dish was cooked and seasoned extremely well. The rice served with it was good but really just something to soak up those goat juices. I also got a side of Naan which was also very good. Probably would have gotten the garlic Naan if it wasn't a dollar more. Two things I think could improve the experience. 1) allow customers to substitute Naan for the rice at no extra charge 2) water from the fountain machine had an off putting flavor. Perhaps this is a Cedar Falls thing but all said and done the meal was around $15+tip so I'd expect better tasting water at no charge. read more

When I moved away from Cedar Falls I never imagined that there would be one, let alone multiple, Indian restaurants in the area a little over a decade later. Not only are there options, but there are some really good ones! Masala is a nice little spot. The service was a little underwhelming, but the food was fantastic and the prices were lower than I am used to. My meal consisted of vegetable samosa as an appetizer, naan, and Malai Kofta for my entree. The samosa was crispy, flavorful, and HUGE. Very satisfying, but the best part was the chutney that came with them. The best I have had anywhere. The Malai Kofta was also some of the best I have had, and very different from how it has been prepared at most restaurants I have gone too. I ordered it "medium spicy" which ended up being pretty nice, but actually fairly mild for what I normally prepare myself for at most Indian restaurants. Here in Madison a lot of people order their food "wisconsin mild" because just saying mild ends up with something that is too much for them to handle! Anyway, the sauce was rich and packed with flavor and the koftas were ridiculously amazing. So much flavor, people! The Naan was delicious, but unfortunately it did not come out until I was almost finished with my meal. It was SUPER puffy, chewy, and buttery. Very good. Very friendly service and Mirch Masala Grill knows how to bring the spice! We ate at Mirch Masala on a Monday evening before heading to the High School Football Championship game. We began with vegetable samosas, which were accompanied by a sweet chutney rather than a savory or slightly spicy version. I would rate the samosas as satisfactory because they lacked the breadth of spices and depth of flavor that I expected. They also seemed to be reheated rather than freshly prepared. The chutney was tasty, but I am partial to the more savory and spicy variations. Next, I ordered the Chicken Handi for my entree. When I ordered the Chicken Handi, I asked the server to make it spicy and I got exactly what I ordered. My Chicken Handi was creamy, flavorful, and spicy! We ordered the cheese naan to accompany our entrees, which proved to be a great compliment to my Chicken Handi. This particular cheese naan was made with a creamy cheese that cooled the spice of my Chicken Handi. The naan also help me soak up every spicy, delicious drop. In sum, Mirch Masala offers solid Indian food, but it would not make my top five. A favorite! On my first visit the awesome waiter recommended the malai kofta and it's still my favorite. (I've ordered the same dish at Taste of India and didn't like it at all). The garlic naan is so yum, the pakora and samosas are good and spicy. Not fancy, but pleasant and clean and really great service. The food comes fast and is inexpensive and delicious. I highly recommend! Also it's one of only two to three places in the area that have a halal menu, my Muslim friends are faced with a very limited variety around here, but they definitely frequent this place. This is a great place for when you are hankering some Indian food! It smells amazing from the outside, and is great advertisment to get people in the door--it works, trust me! The lunch buffet is really popular, and I'd recommend that if you haven't ever tried Indian food before. That way, you can just sample a bunch of dishes and figure out what you like. But really, it's all amazing. Secretly, my favorite part of Indian food in the naan--the bread you use to mop up the juices. It is delicious! I am so disappointed to have to give this review, because I generally liked this restaurant. One thing I will say is if you get food from here, be sure to go to the restaurant to eat or get it for pick up. Their delivery service I got was awful. I ordered online from them and waited an hour and 15min. before calling the restaurant to inquire about my food only to have a woman put me on hold then come back on the line to tell me that she had already delivered it. She said " the ***** office correct?" I told her no that's across the street from me i'm at a house. She said she would fix it and come back. About 5 min. later she calls me back and said " ma'am we checked your order and you put (my address) down as the delivery address. I told her yes I did that's where I live. She then argued with me saying that's where she dropped it off. I had to tell her 2 more times that I did not recieve the food, finally she says " Okay i'll go get it and bring it to you" and hangs up..... 20 more min. later she goes to the building across the street and gets the food she had ALREADY gave them (how do I know what they have done with it) and brings it over to my house. Doesn't offer anything for the terrible service and gives me COLD FOOD. I love their food but this was incredibly unacceptable, and I've never dealt with such bad customer service. read more

Did a pre order @ 2:30 for a 4:45 delivery pre paid with a $5 tip. Waited until 5:15 called the restaurant was told that it would be delivered in 20 mins. Waited 30 mins called again and was told that they are delivering it and they would call the driver. Waited for a call back for 15 mins and nothing, so called the restaurant again. He said it will be there in 2 mins. Waited 10 mins called the restaurant was told they never got the order and we would have to order again!!! We asked why and they said Grubhub was supposed to call them and they didn't get a call. I called Grubhub and was told that is not how it works and they would call and figure it out why they are saying that. Grubhub put us on hold and called the restaurant. When she came back she said the the order is being prepared and they will be delivering it soon. I told Grubhub that was not what I asked them to do and at this point one or both companies are lieing to us. After a heated discussion between us, they then said that they would call the restaurant agian and see what is going on. They said the restaurant refused to give a refund and Grubhub refused to pay for it. They did say that the restaurant were delivered it but at this point we cancelled our order and will not be using Grubhub or eat at Marsal again.
