Did a pre order @ 2:30 for a 4:45 delivery pre paid with a $5 tip. Waited until 5:15 called the restaurant was told that it would be delivered in 20 mins. Waited 30 mins called again and was told that they are delivering it and they would call the driver. Waited for a call back for 15 mins and nothing, so called the restaurant again. He said it will be there in 2 mins. Waited 10 mins called the restaurant was told they never got the order and we would have to order again!!! We asked why and they said Grubhub was supposed to call them and they didn't get a call. I called Grubhub and was told that is not how it works and they would call and figure it out why they are saying that. Grubhub put us on hold and called the restaurant. When she came back she said the the order is being prepared and they will be delivering it soon. I told Grubhub that was not what I asked them to do and at this point one or both companies are lieing to us. After a heated discussion between us, they then said that they would call the restaurant agian and see what is going on. They said the restaurant refused to give a refund and Grubhub refused to pay for it. They did say that the restaurant were delivered it but at this point we cancelled our order and will not be using Grubhub or eat at Marsal again. Oh ya they delivered it to us and wanted us to pay after we canceled the order. Worst experience I have had in a long time. read more

They are Pricy !!!! Restaurant is not as clean as we thought. Staff didn't understand what we ordered. The guy who was sitting at cashier area was watching us continuously, that was very awkward. The food was good, but they charge us for things that we did not order. They have been here since 2012. They have all Pakistani and middle east food. Not indian food. Recently they opened grocery store including halal Meat.. make sure when you order butter chicken it should be fresh other wise it will be like watery. Last but not least "check your itemized reciept" and ask for "itemized receipt" a list of food and drink items with prices not Credit card receipt. The Masala Grill is a new place in town right by the University of Northern Iowa campus. The dining room is small with room for only 5 booths. You can ignore the atmosphere because the food is awesome. It's tastier and much cheaper than the more upscale Taste of India about 1 mile away. I had the grilled Chicken Sashlick which was tasty and filling. The Samosas were fresh and to die for. The butter chicken was creamy and had the right amount of spice. Don't expect your food to come out quickly as it looks like dishes are prepared fresh. On the other hand, the service is haphazard. For example, the appetizers came out with my entree. Getting water, napkins and refills on the drinks seems to be a chore as well. Also, the menus have no descriptions of the food making ordering difficult. They should hire an experienced wait staff to come up with some procedures for developing menus and serving customers. Despite the lack of polish in service, the staff here are very friendly and welcome your business. All in all, this will be my go-to place for Indian food. read more

The food was ok especially considering location, though it It took this restaurant fifteen minutes of discussion between myself and the three staff to get them to accept the yelp voucher. I could wax poetically but I'll keep it simple and to the point: I travel extensively and have enjoyed Afghan, Pakistani, and Indian food in-country and all over the U.S. I am very pleased to say that the food that I've tried so far (chicken makhani, Alo Baingan, garlic and plain naan, and chai (with milk)) were all VERY good. The service was friendly and brisk despite the off hour (3:00 PM). They were able to nicely match heat level to my personal taste (closer to typical southern Indian levels) and my mother's (first Pakistani food experience ever typical older Iowa white-bread American). Iowa is lacking in diverse food choices and Masala helps shorten the gap. They have a lunch buffet available until 2pm but around $10 but we opted for the menu and ordered falafel, samosa, naan, cheese naan, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, and alo ghobi. The falafel came in small circles and defiantly had the chickpea taste embedded. Samosas were veggie and had peas and potatoes within and were larger than I expected when they arrived. Pretty tasty and piping hot. The naan was pretty good, light and easy to rip apart and use to pick up the meats. The tandoori came with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions which was a first to me. Usually just see onions and jalapeños. It had the charred taste that I enjoy with tandoori and came off the bone fairly easily. Butter chicken was good, not my favorite as the name implies was buttery, but too much for my taste. This also came with rice l. The cheese naan was strange to me but my sister liked it, I mean it is cheese after all. Happy that cedar falls had this place and it's right on the edge of campus! Wow! That was a great meal, great service, low price. There is nothing fancy about this place, in fact, it is about a simple as it gets. Situated on "College Hill" inches from the University of Northern Iowa this is a popular place. It is very small store front restaurant with only a few tables and limited decorating. But, let's face it, you are not here for the atmosphere. We had the veggie Okra, naan, and chicken all of which were excellent and served fast and hot by the very helpful waiter. Ok, now, these guys are absolutely awesome. Friendly, courteous and their food is STUNNING. Were driving from Chicago to Columbua Falls, MT and I found this restaurant on Yelp. Decided to try it out on the way. Ended up arriving around 10 pm. Their kitchen is open till 10:30 so I had called ahead of time to see if they might accomodate us. They were cool about it. Upon arrival, we ordered a chicken dish and 2 vegetarian dishes along with 2 plates of samosas. Living in Chicago, we do have great Indian food but of course, as a person who has lived in India for a few years, I have always felt we in this country just "settle" for ok Indian food. Not here. The food here was just absolutely delicious. The chicken was not at all dry like you find at normal Indian restaurants. I had the chicken handi which was bursting with flavor. We also ordered malai kofta and palak paneer; both of which were awesome too. This place truly has flavors you would find in home cooked food. Can't wait to get back here again someday. read more

Excited when we moved to Cedar Falls to find an Indian restaurant that delivered. We ordered tandoori chicken, mutton korma (a goat curry), malai kofta (veggie balls in sauce) & garlic Naan bread. The veggie balls and their sauce were delicious, as was the chicken, marinated in yogurt. The goat, however, was mostly bones with tiny amounts of meat & the meat was very stringy & tough to chew. The basmati rice & Naan were well prepared and great tools for mopping up the delicious sauces. I'm sure we will order from them again, but probably not the mutton korma. read more

This is my first time trying Indian food. I ordered the BBQ roll sandwich with Afghanistan chicken, the lamb masala, and the garlic naan. I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. The bbw sandwich with Afghan chicken was excellent. The lamb in the masala was tender. And the naan ,which is basically a garlic bread, was great with the masala but for 3.99 there should be more than one piece. The chicken handi is my fav. 5 stars. This place has the best authentic Indian food around. There spices are top notch and the serving sizes will have you taking some home for later. After traveling abroad this summer, I came home and had to try this place out as quickly as possible. Sure enough, it succeeded any expectations I had and more. The service was impeccable, as the employees give you space and social time, yet the personal environment allows them to "read" customers in order for the service to be done in a timely manner. Stopped here for the lunch buffet. The food has tremendous flavor. If you want lots of colorful spices popping at you and not too hot (spicy), this is your place. Very affordable $9.99 buffet 11-2pm. Would have given 5 stars but a couple things they can improve: 1) keep the warmers a little hotter as the food was warm and not hot, like it should be. 2) be careful of chicken bone fragments. You may chip a tooth if you're not paying attention. I noticed this in a chicken rice dish they had and I came across several bone fragments. Definitely comes across as authentic, I'm sure. I would personally change that to limit a law suit if someone needs to get dental surgery. Overall, I recommend you try this place. Yum! read more

Definitely the best Indian food I've had in the Cedar Valley, if not the best Indian food I've had in the States to date. Friendly staff, good service, traditional decor although not trying to being overly ethnic make this hidden gem a must visit if you're in our around the Cedar Falls area and are craving some South Asian cuisine. Not worth another try. The entire place is underwhelming, just from the first impression. Very limited seating, open environment where the staff is always 'watching' (as another reviewer has mentioned). Service has been slow every time I have been there. Worse still, that other groups came in after ours, and seemed to receive better and faster service! 40 minutes spent waiting in the metal-backed chairs, and at last our food arrived. Unfortunately it wasn't correct. We pointed this out, the staff took our plate to the back and brought it out with a slice of American cheese! Another member of our party ordered the butter chicken, but it came out watery (almost like it was microwave reheated, or something similar). I'm convinced this place is only in business because of the proximity to the college campus; rather then serving our community, they are leaching from it. I eat here often, due to their hefty servings and very balanced price, my family and I can eat here 2 or 3 times per week with no problem. We get take out, so I'm not sure if the servings while sitting inside are different, but I would guess not by much from what I've seen. Everything that I have ever tried has been delicious, it's hard to decide but we usually go with the Shahi paneer, Veggie Pakoras, Naan and Frontier chicken to make a nice meal with leftovers for 2 adults and 1 child. Their Chai tea is so good, especially on a cold day. The mango lassi is superb, it's perfect anytime but even better on a hot summer day. By far one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. Great food, great service, very reasonable prices, convenient location. I'm just sad I'm not from here and won't have access to the wonderfulness that is this restaurant - I envy you, people of cedar falls. I give this place one star because it is an ethnic restaurant in Cedar Falls (and those are few in number), and because the naan was pretty good. The place is dirty, the service some of the worst I've ever encountered, and the food is barely edible. We love Indian food but this was YUCK. They were out of ingredients for our preferred dishes, so a good bit of the menu was unavailable. The tables, chairs, and floor at several empty tables were covered in rice and dried food, but the sole waiter/host just sat on his stool and stared out the window (literally) instead of cleaning them, so we had to sit at a semi-clean table right next to the door during a blizzard. When I nicely asked him to modify the music (the first three songs played after our arrival may have had a couple of non-profane words, but I didn't hear them because I was busy trying to distract my kids), he shrugged and rolled his eyes and changed the song on his iPod to another slightly less profane one. There were several kids in the restaurant (in addition to mine). When he spilled chutney all over our table and salt shaker, he didn't even attempt to clean it up. And to top it off, he included gratuity in the total of our bill without telling us (I am fine with including gratuity, but firmly believe that it should be noted). Apparently, that's their policy for a party of 4...probably the ONLY way they can get gratuities given their level of service. read more
