Not knowing each places heat levels and not being a wimp, theirs was a bit hotter than what I would have called a medium, but not awful. Flavor was good. Chili naan was hot and fresh. Would have liked more garlic and more chili, but the texture was spot on. Daughter's butter chicken was supposed to be mild, but the chef was a bit more liberal with the heat as well. I grew up in Hyderabad, the land of Biryani. It is very hard to find restaurants in USA that do a good job of Vegetarian Biryani. Most places will just serve veg pulao and call it Biryani. Persis is one of my fav places to get Paneer Biryani in the states... and the only one in Cedar Rapids area. We usually do take out and get the Paneer Biryani Family Pack. The qty is enough for 2 adults to eat a satisfying meal and have leftovers for atleast 1 person the next day. The family pack also comes with a choice of appetizer. We usually get the Mushroom Pepper Fry and love the spicy flavor. The food is 5 Star worthy, choose this place if you want to eat good Indian food. A new Indian restaurant in north east cedar rapids. So today was their second day of their opening. They are open for dine in as well as takeout. We did take out. The food was extremely delicious. So if you are missing authentic Indian food with a good flavor n spice you should definitely stop in for a good meal. We ordered Tandoori Chicken - nice and tender and well cooked meat, Chicken Chettinad this was probably my best chicken I have tasted lately, Lasooni Paneer their paneer was nice n soft but I was expecting to be spicy was a bit on regular spice side and Paneer Tikka Masala this was another dish which creamy and accurate spicy. My go-to Indian dish is hariyali chicken, so I was sold as soon as I saw it on the menu. I've also become a fan of the yellow lentils dish (dal tadka) and of course their samosas and naan are delicious! Pricing and portions are on par with similar places in the area. And instead of bringing a menu to my table like most restaurants, she handed it to me as I walked past the counter. TLDR - Really bad Chicken Tikka Masala that was filled with sugar. Naan was good. --- I feel bad that when the worker finally asked me how it was (as i was getting ready to leave), and I lied and said "great, thanks". I just didn't want that confrontation. If she would have asked me prior i probably would have said. I'm new to Cedar Rapids, and from a big city where Indian restaurants are plentiful. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala. It had so much sugar in it - for no reason that I could see, and left me with a stomach ache. I was hungry so i tried to balance it with the rice and the garlic naan i ordered, but ultimately took the rest home for my husband...maybe he would like it. He agreed it was awful, but thought maybe they made it too spicy and tried to save the batch by adding sugar? I continue to have this problem with small businesses in CR where they aren't particularly friendly (definitely not "midwest friendly") and don't make any attempt to make you a repeat customer. (and yet after this review i am going to review the new dentist i had earlier who was fantastic - so its not all of CR). We met some friends at the restaurant and ordered a variety of dishes. We ordered chicken biryani and curry shrimp and naan garlic bread. The dishes were okay. Not bad but not great either.
