So I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a 5 star review for Mirka! I've been getting facials from her since 2016 and she truly gives you a custom experience. My skin is constantly changing so I've never received the same facial twice. It's usually a combination of diamond microdermabrasion, extractions, peel, mask, lymphatic, light therapy, ultrasound, microcurrent facial toning, etc. I always know when I leave my face is going to be dewy, beautiful and obviously younger looking! read more

BEWARE if you are getting a wax done here. The wax that is sitting there, waiting for you, has already been contaminated by many people's private areas!! I moved to Bethesda from NY last year and was looking for a brazilian waxing place that did a decent job for good price. I've had a Brazilian done at Nails by Tammy in Bethesda and unfortunately, if you read my 1 star review there, they double dip. So after that, I've just steered clear from having another Brazilian done here and just got it done regularly at my go-to place, J'aime Day Spa, every time I visited NY. One day I came across a Groupon deal, saw raving reviews about this place and found that it was also located within 5 minutes walking distance from my apt. Naturally, I purchased the Groupon and went in for a Brazilian. I met Mirka who was very nice, we bonded because she also moved from NY after living there for over 20+ years. However to my horror, she was double dipping as she talked! I asked her "Ohno... are you double dipping?" She replied "Honey, I've been doing this for decades, it's not called double dipping because only the wax touches your skin, not the stick." Hmm.. really? But the wax that you touched my privates with, goes back into the scalding hot pot of wax that will be used for others. She was lecturing me about how bacteria doesn't spread because the wax is hot or blah blah, I forgot what she said, as I did not really listen. I just wanted to get the hell outta there so I can shower when I got home. Won't visit here again. Now after two brazilian-waxing horror stories in Bethesda, I would really appreciate anyone who can DM me and recommend to me a place in DMV (preferally Bethesda area) that doesn't double dip! read more

I discovered Mirka by chance a few years ago because of a groupon. I came in, hairy as ever, and we got to chatting. 45 minutes of laugher later, I had no hair from my belly button down to my toes. By the time she told me the price and I was in total disbelief. She knew I got an added charge everywhere I went because of how thick my hair is, and she said she wouldn't do that to me there. Ok so before I begin I have to say I have been to at least 20 different estheticians/ facialists in my lifetime and Mirka is by far the best I have had the pleasure to work with. She is kind, passionate and extremely knowledgeable about skin and skin care and will coach you and your skin back into good/ better health. I received a microdermoabrasion treatment with Mirka and it destroyed my skin. It has been over a month since I received the treatment and I still have raised bumps that look like small pimples on a one side of my face. Being acne-free runs in my family. I am horrified. Additionally, she did an extra treatment on her own and charged me an additional $10 when the bill came. That is not cool. But honestly, that is small fries in comparison to what has happened to my skin. I trusted the previous yelp reviews and am really let down. read more

4.5 stars Mirka is now situated in an individual room at Lux Studios in Bethesda, just around the corner from her old location. This caused silly me some confusion as I had the old address, but when I called, she helped me find my way and didn't begrudge me too much for therefore becoming late for my appointment. The salon/spa is very attractive, and her space is equally adorable and well-kept. The front desk attendant was friendly and took me back in person to her space. She was welcoming and friendly with me even though I came in late and in a flurry, and that helped the rest of the session feel much calmer. I came in for her waxing services, and I have to say that this experience was quite different from any other that I've had due to the fact that she uses hard wax. While I personally found it more painful than regular wax, she let me know that it should last longer, which was pretty exciting since my hair always grows back quite quickly. Mirka has great bedside manner and made me feel relaxed and at ease throughout. She was also very helpful in letting me know that she offers a significant student discount when she found out I was currently in grad school. I was in and out of there in less than 20 minutes, so she is very efficient with her time, too. The jury is still out on whether or not it lasts longer, as it has only been a few days since I went, but I can say that it was a relatively pleasant and calm experience. I've only had brazillian waxes done at Bare Skin in Alexandria, but I moved so I decided to try a different place. My previous waxes have been done with soft wax as a disclaimer. I arrived about 15 minutes late. Part of me thought about canceling, but I decided to go through with the service. This was hands down the most painful wax I have ever had. I do not prefer hard wax, and to make things worse she used huge sections so that she could hurry me out and get to her next client. She waxed half of me in one super painful pull. To top things off, she definitely double dipped. I think she only used one stick one me the entire time. The service was so rushed I'm still picking residual wax from my neither regions. If she couldn't effectively perform the service in the time allowed she should not have performed it. Point blank period!!! read more

I have been to see Mirka three times now. Three waxes and one facial. I bought a Groupon for two Brazilian waxes with Mirka. I arrived at Le Ciel (Mirka's room is inside the salon) and did not have to wait long (I never have any of the times). I met Mirka, who was professional, nice, and very personable. It is really great having someone who's friendly and professional, because it makes the whole experience so much better. Mirka has a little room in the back of the salon. It's small, but cozy and it smells great! To be brief, the wax was great; Mirka uses a hard wax for the Brazilian, which is great for my sensitive skin. She talked to me through the whole thing and made it as comfortable as possible. Sometimes after a wax, I tend to have irritated skin, but after three waxes with Mirka I have had little to no irritation. Results have been great and I've been very happy with the service and prices, so I have been back once since my Groupons were redeemed. I plan to keep going to Mirka as long as I am in the Bethesda area. In my most recent visit, I scheduled a facial and a wax. Mirka did the wax first and did a great job. Somehow, it's much less painful with her than with many other people I had seen in the past. After the wax, she applied a mild chemical peel to my face and various cleansing and soothing products. She also used the light therapy machine on my face for a few minutes before applying a mask that sat for 10 minutes. My skin feels great! I definitely am glad that I found Age Smart by Mirka. Mirka is the best. Initially, I came here because I had purchased a groupon and had not found a waxing home after being in the area for almost a year. Absolutely fantastic waxing from Mirka. This is the first time I have really felt committed to a waxer. I'm not a frequent waxer, and I usually go when I'm able to find great deals (like I did for Mirka), but she totally changed my outlook. She was so nice, the hard wax was great and removed hair from the root, and she went through to extract my ingrown hairs. No one has ever done that for me. I was amazed. This was my first Brazilian Wax. My friend convinced me to get one & scared me horribly prior too! I was having a terrible day & VERY uptight when I walked in but Mirka put me TOTALLY at ease! She explained everything she was doing as she went along. The salon was very clean & hygienic. To be perfectly honest the waxing of my of my eyebrows is more uncomfortable than this! I'll definitely be back & recommend friends! I used a Groupon & was able to book my appointment on line with ease! I was in & out! Truly wonderful experience from beginning to end. I'm not a high maintenance gal and really never spend on skincare. But pushing 50, the wrinkles are starting to widen and I just have "flaws"..various bumps and spots and bags and creases. I don't want to look 50! So, I purchased a groupon for a facial and read the raving reviews. My appointment was scheduled for 11 on a Saturday morning and when I arrived the very kind receptionist lead me into the waiting room. The salon is very nice as is the staff. I waited about 20 minutes when the receptionist apologized and informed me that mirka was actually out of town but that she had someone there covering for her that could see me. I said oh okay that's fine I'll wait. I waited about an hour a half and when the receptionist came to get me because she felt bad that I had waited so long when my appointment was set for 11. The receptionist apologized and asked me if I could reschedule or if I wanted the 215 appointment. Well I was already there so I decided to wait. I waited three hours for a facial and spent around $7 for parking. The woman who gave me a facial was very nice and did an okay job. I should have just rescheduled. Again, the salon and the staff itself is great! I emailed mirka after my appointment letting her know that I had purchased a groupon and the whole story. I informed her I was interested in another facial and if there was a possibility that she could give me a deal because I had waited three hours and because she had scheduled me wrong. I had the best wax ever. Is that possible? Yes with Mirka it was true. Most of the groupons I buy I read reviews before purchasing. Everything that has already been sad is true!!!! Every woman needs a esthetician (sp) that they can be comfortable with like a girlfriend you have known for years. I was already booking my next appointment while still on the table in my head. Pampering yourself is so therapeutic especially when it is personalized and not like a factory. The area was clean and well organized. The towels were so nice I felt them multiple times because that is not the norm. The initial pull was well different because she does use hard wax. I have had hard wax on my eyebrows but never as a Brazilian. This may be my new and only way to go. The process while not pain free was to be expected but not awful. Not that Mirka even needs more positive reviews, but I have been going to her regularly for about 6 months and have no plans to stray! She is super personable and great at making you feel comfortable, even when you are getting waxed in the most uncomfortable place. She is very thorough with her waxing and will even remove any ingrown hairs you may have. While still painful, the hard wax is definitely less painful than other types and does a great job at removing hair from the root. I have had SEVERE eczema and allergies all my entire life. I can count on one hand how many great facials I've had in my life...it's two. And one of them was last week with Mirka. She knows her sh!t No matter what I tell the typical aesthetician about how sensitive my skin is, they don't seem to get it (no matter how much they charge and what "luxury" spa they work at). Typically I leave spa looking worse than when I went in - red, peeling, cracking skin, dry skin, miserable and it takes my skin a week or more to recover. However, Mirka gets it!!!! I have been to several different salons and spas within the DMV area and they all were decent. However, the facial I had with Mirka was the best by far. It is not just her thorough knowledge and understanding of one's skin concerns, it is her humble and professional outlook on the business of cosmetics.
