Kartika serves good Indonesian rijsttafel (multi-dish sampler of spicy meats, vegetables, rice, and…read morenoodles). I don't have Indonesian food where I live, so was excited to try this in Amsterdam. I thought the dishes were all flavorful and gave a good mix of meat, vegetable, and rice dishes. The individual servings were small, but filling enough because of the heavy coconut milk used in most dishes. 1 star off: The attitude of the waitstaff was abysmal. First of all, their website does not offer reservations and they rarely answer their phones. So my family and I arrived at restaurant opening to get a table. The first thing they said to us was "Do you have a reservation? If you don't, I can only give you a table if you get out by 6:30PM." in a stern way. We said okay. The group that came after me also raised the issue that no one at the restaurant answers their phone for reservations. The waitstaff did not respond to that, but begrudging seated them. 1 star off: While we were ordering food, the waitstaff noticed that my son had a water bottle with him, and proceeded to give him a lecture that water bottles are not allowed and that we have to order water from them. He is a teenager...he does not know he was supposed to conceal his water bottle at this restaurant. We all ordered drinks, including water, but the experience left my family feeling unwelcomed.

This place absolutely saved my palate after weeks of deep-fried seafood (with mayo), fries (with mayo/peanut sauce and onion), and many hash joints. I still remember I got the nasi goreng and chicken sate, and they were absolutely godsends, especially after a long time of having the flavour I was not the biggest fan of (mayo). I remember I brought a kiwi with me for this meal, and the flavour also blew her mind as she hadn't had anything like this in her own adventure in the Netherlands. Great and relaxing vibe too I'll for sure visit the Netherland again and come to warung mini.

I was staying at the awesome City Hub down the block and decided to check this restaurant out. I went by fellow Yelper Michelle S's recommendation of the Gado Gado and Chicken with noodles. One would think, prices would be high like that of Amsterdam. The portions were big and good value. A lot of locals as well as tourists were here in this Witte de With establishment. I was pretty full after the meal. It was a pretty nice stroll down Witte de Withstraat back to City Hub.

This seemed to be an inconvenience for the staff, but they ended up letting us sit at a table on the patio. The atmosphere is lovely and peaceful and the decor is beautiful, with many fresh flowers. You could tell you had arrived because the building itself was a totally different style, the old Dutch School type with a thatched roof, from the surrounding homes. Large. Parking was free, a nice attribute in Holland. The entrance is to your left when you drive through the gates. We were a large group, and we received the "rijst tafel" (rice table) arrangement: super tasty and elaborate and well-prepared. Fresh ingredients, imported Indonesian seasonings, locally sourced. Some seasonings were obviously hand-made, and quite delicious. I believe you have to pre-order this a day or two in advance, as it takes days to prepare some of the dishes. And though I am not an expert on Indonesian foods, I can tell these days that I know more now after the time in Portland spent eating Asian foods. Everything was made in an authentic style with excellent quality ingredients. Starting with a special salad and loempia, we dove in with gusto. The spicy foods were made with tolerable levels, although I stayed away from the dishes with whole peppers in them (logically!). Our group regrouped several times and we shared all dishes, lovely. Dessert consisted of, what else, a heavenly, many layered spice cake. I definitely would come back here.
