This pharmacy is the absolute worse. My prescription was transferred here because my current pharmacy was in the process of renewing my insurance. After specifically asking for the brand of medication that my doctor prescribed for me instead of the generic brand because it gives me bad side effects they still give me the wrong one. After telling them that they are giving me the generic one they said that they don't carry my brand because it's more expensive than the generic. I asked if they can order it because it's covered by my insurance and they said no. So they refused to order the medication that was prescribed for me, unbelievable. This isn't my first encounter with them, They were the first pharmacy I went to when I moved. the first time they refused to give me the brand name one because it wasn't covered by my insurance, which I later found was in fact insured because I've been getting it for the past year and a half, they just gave me the wrong one and when I tried showing them the difference in packaging, they said that they don't have it and also will not be ordering it. After trying to make me pay for the wrong prescription. Honestly if you're looking for a friendly neighborhood pharmacy, walk down the block to upper Manhattan pharmacy, their staff is friendly and the pharmacist takes his job seriously and doesn't just give you random medications that are "the same thing" to save money I'm really disappointed that my first review on yelp had to be a negative one but this was pretty ridiculous. read more

I love this drugstore. They are as nice as can be. They always try to haggle with my horrid insurance company before letting me know there's a problem. They save me a lot of headaches. And though they're small and look like they haven't restocked since the Hoover administration, they always seem to have the exact thing I needed at a price significantly lower than Rite-Aid or Duane Reade. Plus, the lighting here is much more flattering. And I haven't even gotten to Arthur, the unofficial mayor of Sugar Hill. One note, be nice or you'll be ignored. They don't deal with ugly. Oh, and they don't take credit cards. Who cares? You know where the ATM is. read more

I love this place. What they lack in convenience and slick corporate feel, they make up ten times over in charm and functionality. I know they're not open 24 hours and don't look like a ikea store, but they are great at what they do and offer Rx for a lot less than Duane Reade. I was paying $20 for something at DR and it was $4.60 at Mishkins. Walking into the store is like going back in time, they still have a telephone booth, and old style wooden display cases. And by shopping here you'll be supporting the local economy, so feel good about that. read more

Mishkin's is so much better than the crappy chain store places like CVS, Duane Reade, or, the worst of the bunch, Rite Aid. Mishkin's treats you as a neighbor, has much cheaper prices, and makes sure you get what you need. It's important to go to the businesses that keep the money in the community and fight the gentrification that is ruining the neighborhood. read more

They open/show up over 30 minutes late consistently. Change your hours if you're not going to be there. You'd avoid a million complaints. Never had this problem at Apollo pharmacy once. You've lost a customer who wanted to be loyal to the neighborhood. read more

Update--well, they were bought out, but not by Duane Reade, fortunately, so I don't need to leave Manhattan. The old store was renovated and is now a slick, cookie cutter shell; however, they kept some of the same old staff. The new owners are super friendly, remember me, and are very personable. The place still feels friendly and like it's part of the neighborhood. Miss the old decrepitude, but still really like this place. read more

Awesome throwback both inside and out. The facade and neon beckon like something out of the forties. Within, you will find the interior kept as it likely was when Mishkin's first opened: wooden shelving, a phone booth with sliding door, drawers full of various prescriptions, cluttered displays of medical accessories, single serving pill packets, and perfume from long ago (Charlie anyone?). This is not retro, however. Due to laziness or a lack of investment, the place has refused to improve its chipped veneer in nearly any respect. Likely it passes from one owner to the next each couple of years, so no one has felt committed enough to upgrade and risk sacrificing its character.But in some respects this store goes too far, carrying ancient stock along with the prewar appointments. This should give pause in any sort of retail outlet, but seems particularly troubling when one depends on the accuracy of the establishment to deliver life sustaining services! In addition, the very friendly and helpful staff have difficulty processing certain medical insurance. Furthermore their hours are minimal, open on weekdays only and then less than nine. So go in and take a look. Maybe buy some OTC and help them stay in business, should they be open when you come by. However, if you are on medicare/medicade, you will likely have an easier time down the block at one of the Spanish places whose entire clientele uses one government program or another.
