Popped into Duane Reade in Hell's Kitchen fairly late on a Saturday night. It's not so large but they had what I needed. I will be back!

Perfectly located on 8th avenue but away from the hustle and bustle, this Duane Reade aka Walgreens is pretty convenient. This location boasts a fully functional pharmacy that provides limited medical services such as administering COVID-19 vaccines among other things. The staff is efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. I have frequented this place on occasion but no other visit was as filled with relief as my most recent one. The staff take care to explain any issues or procedures taking place. Particularly one young lady (with blue hair) was extraordinary in keeping business flowing while managing a large crowd of people looking to get vaccinated. Bravo to her (I wish that I'd caught her name). In any case, the place is very clean, has more than one register open and has a wide variety of items available for purchase. I'd definitely recommend for a number of reasons! Stay safe out there! read more

I walk into the pharmacy in Duane Reade on 44th Street & 8th avenue.. I ask a young lady at the booth when you first walk in if the pharmacy is open. I go to walk out & another lady next to her says you can wait they'll be open in 10 minutes. I waited it was longer than 10 minutes but I live in the neighborhood so it didn't matter. Three people walked in after to me all asked the same question will they open soon? I responded yes but I've been waiting now more than 10 minutes . There's 3 signs in this pharmacy One sign says Covid Check in Another signs says Drop off & pick ups another says orders. So, one lady goes to the pick up, another gentlemen goes to the pharmacy & I stand on the Covid line. I was the only one for that line. 3 people behind the counter 2 women & a heavy set man with glasses who I assumed was the pharmacist he was putting together medications. No one looks up so I ask "is anyone giving Covid shots today?" A young women looking down to the floor you can hardly understand what she's saying speaking very low & didn't look too happy. Mumbled something I didn't understand. The other women says, there's only 1 line. I said, no one said anything I've been waiting for at least 15 minutes was here before everyone else - The pharmacist kept working , looking down says something to the effect there's only one line- and continues to work- these people are in dire need of communication skills- clearly they were all bad communicators, an attitude why work in a pharmacy when people go their for medical attention. There was a gentlemen on the line asking about the flu shot & the RSV shot- the girl mumbled something he asked her to repeat it- she said, Medicare doesn't cover RSV shot - that did it I walked out these people clearly don't give a damn about the customers they serve - I was there for the Covid shot & RSV shot- I didn't want any of those people giving me anything- I strongly suggest go to the pharmacy on 47 & @ avenue family owned caring people - Stay clear of the attitude Duane Reade they don't want your money read more

This particular store and its' pharmacy associates have somehow managed to take the compassion and humanity out of healthcare medicine. Every time i have to come in because of an urgent issue i regret not making other choices, forgetting the alternatives just 2-3 blocks in any other direction. I don't understand it: Even with Good Insurance provider Duane Reade-Walgreens: $150 limited hours and non-compassionate associates Capsule: $4.15 + speedy clear delivery, amazing App and instant TEXTING support. The pharmacist here is amazing! She went above and beyond to help me fill my dog's perscription. She patiently listened to all my questions and helped me find coupons so I could afford it. Never have I had such amazing service. Awesome job and nice people at this pharmacy. I will go out of my way to come to this Duane Reade instead of others. read more

My experience with the Duane Reade at 900 8th Ave, New York, NY: I went to this location for a 12:15pm appointment to get the first dose of the COVID vaccine. My husband went to a noon appointment at the Duane Reade one block away. His experience was very positive and was in and out within 15 minutes. They were efficient and treated their patients professionally. However, the 900 8th Ave location I went to was running 2.5 hours behind. This wasn't the main issue. The main issue was the pharmacy front desk woman who was picking fights and yelling at the patients who were waiting to get their vaccine. When I arrived, tensions were high among the pharmacy workers. One woman patient asked the male manager for a chair to sit in because she had a health condition that prevented her from standing for long periods of time. He said he couldn't offer her one of the chairs and she's welcome to leave. I had printed out and filled out the necessary paperwork before I had arrived. I waited 1.5 hours before I was told to fill out new similar paperwork. The woman said the paperwork that was online was outdated. This was fine. I have worked in busy environments and I understand things can get behind. At 1:15pm, everyone were told to leave the pharmacy area because they were closing for an hour. Again, this was fine. However, when there were only three people left waiting (elderly people who didn't want to give up their seat.) the woman still made them leave even though over crowding wasn't an issue at this point. I confirmed with her that I needed to come back at 2:15pm and she barked at me. I left and came back at the appropriate time. Then people who had appointments later than me started getting another form to fill out. I went to the desk and told her my appointment time and that I didn't receive the form. She yelled at me and said she didn't call me yet and that's why. I asked her in a calm voice (genuinely inquiring), "Why are so many people put ahead of me if I scheduled my appointment sooner?" She starts yelling at me saying that I needed to stop now! I told her I was just asking why. And she proceeds to yell and says I need to stop. The male manager told me to just contact corporate customer service. I was confused as to why they were so dismissive, argumentative and rude when I was just making sure I was filling everything out that was needed. Then other patients started asking each other when their scheduled appointment time was. This made her leave the front desk, go into the waiting area and start bullying the other patients by saying, "Ya, we're behind! Anyone else gotta problem with that? If you all have a problem you all can leave! This ain't my shot it yours!!!" Another woman came out and said, "hey everyone! We are working as fast as we can and taking people in the order of their appointment." I told her, "Mam, they aren't going in order of appointments." That's when the other woman started bullying me again and said, "you gotta stop now!!! This ain't my shot! You can leave!" I took out my phone and started recording her. She said she's calling security because I was filming. I told her it's perfectly legal to take a video on my phone and she's welcome to call security. She did. Things simmered down and when the security arrived the male manager told him it's fine and to leave. The woman let 3 people (who had later appointments than me) to get their shot before me. Each time she called them in she'd look at me. I knew it was to spite me so I remained silent and calm. A woman who had a 1pm appointment who got her shot ahead of me came over to talk to me. She said this location is the most disorganized and she's sorry I had to go through this. The person administering the shots called me into the room. I guess the lady behind the front desk didn't want to call me in. I went in got my shot and asked what the woman's name at the front desk was. She said she doesn't want to get involved. I asked why doesn't she want to tell me her name. She said she doesn't want to say or get involved. I don't know why she was worried to withhold information from her patients. This doesn't seem like something a professional environment would do. I was called in at 2:30pm for my vaccine. I wanted to get the vaccine to be a responsible citizen in the midst of a pandemic. I understand things can get behind. But complete disrespect by employees to patients is inexcusable. This experience was very humiliating and mortifying. I have suffered much emotional distress from the treatment of Walgreens' employees. This was uncalled for. I plan on taking additional action to hold Walgreens accountable for their employees horrible behavior, falsely calling security on people and blatant disrespect. read more

If you're going to use the pharmacy here, be sure to check that they've run the drugs through your insurance. I'm upset that they don't already do this and you have to ask. I found that my drugs were more expensive than usual and turns out they didn't have my latest insurance information and instead applied a coupon. Duane Reade - If something is NOT approved by insurance or denied, you need to tell the customer so they can figure out what to do!! read more

You can't get an extra star from me if you don't have 5th Avenue candy bars at the register! How many Duane Reade's do I need to review before they understand that? The lack of my impulse purchase of choice notwithstanding, I usually find what i need pretty quickly here. During pharmacy hours, you can enter through the door on 8th Avenue close to 54th St, so that saves me some walking and I am INCREDIBLY lazy. They do a good job of keeping their stock up to date. They don't have as much selection as the DR at 52nd and Broadway, but the lines are generally much shorter here. Since this is close to my apartment, I go here a lot. So I'll continue to get a Snickers when I check out, but I'll eat it resentfully. read more

An hour ago they told me my prescription would be ready in 10 minutes. After going into the store and waiting 15 minutes, they told me my prescription was not yet ready and they wouldn't know how long it would take because the only person who could verify it had to administer three vaccines before me. I am very satisfied with the layout of the store. The merchandise is always stocked on the shelf and the staff is cordial. The employees are not disgruntled and very helpful. When the line is long another staff member will come and open a new register. There is another entrance in the back of the store but is only open during pharmacy hours. Sometimes I will be tricked to walk to the back of the store to exit only to find out I have to walk back to the 8th and 53rd Street corner exit. I do like their magazine Isle. I am able to sneak read an article here and there without inconveniencing another patron. read more

I didn't have time to grab something to eat before going to city. So after getting off train and walking to my destination, i ran in here to grab something to eat. They have a large selection of crackers and cookies. There was no line which i think is a first for me because every time i go to Walgreens or Duane Reade there is always a line. The location of this pharmacy is convenient. Both the Pharmacy Manager and the Pharmacist are helpful and professional. However, the lower level staff, who frequently handle customers at the counter, give the impression that they don't care. I've been lied to by these staff members 3 times. Never had that problem before at other Duane Read/Walgreen pharmacies. But the remedy is to insist on speaking with the Pharmacist who you can count on giving you good and honest answers read more

It's open all the time - yay. It's lit (like all DRs) by flourescent lighting - boo. It's instant photo printing service produces great prints - yay. The employees definitely give the impression that they're the sort of people who concentrate really hard when tying their shoes. I get lost in this store almost every time. I can never find what i'm looking for until i realize i've passed it twice already but somehow didn't notice it. If the employees were more clever, i'd wonder if they intentionally hid things just to make customers question their own sanity. But that clearly isn't it, so it's just fantastically bad organization. I had no idea about this "Out to lunch" policy for Duane Reade pharmacies. From 12 noon until 2pm, the pharmacy COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN..FOR TWO HOURS...Nice, huh? I guess they don't realize that lunch hour is THE ONLY TIME that THOUSANDS of New Yorkers have to get this stuff done. I'm just happy that this wasn't an emergency situation today. I can imagine the anger and frustration of all those people made to wait TWO HOURS while Duane Reade pharmacies just close up shop like some country store from the movie "Deliverance." How can they get away with this, in a heavily populated area where so many people have need of a pharmacy? Haven't they heard of scheduling in shifts? Duane Reade is the NYC version of the ABC Store (in Hawaii) - they all carry the exact same things and they seem to be on almost every block! I have found the 24/7 hours of this location to be very beneficial. When you need something in the middle of the night, it's great to know that Duane Reade is open so you can get it. Stopped by on a stormy winter day while carrying a kitchen appliance that I had intended fas a gift for a friend nearby. Went in to grab a greeting card and decent gift bag. I must admit, although they carry a full isle dedicated to greeting cards, they sure as hell are missing some key ones (especially on the basic side.) After finally a blank card that was presentable enough - I was perplexed at how little they had in the gift bag department - they only had one big bag, which I got in hopes of fitting the big dumb thing I had with me. Sadly, it didn't fit, but only found out after it was purchased and unwrapped (the gift bag, that is.) The High(er) star rating goes to the helpful employee who checked me out, and went all the way back trying a find a pen for me when I asked for one. It didn't just stop there, as I unwrapped the gift bag I had just bought and was trying to fit the appliance into it, she came running to my assistance asking if I needed help putting it in the bag. When we discovered that it didn't fit, she ran out back -again- and got some of the Duane Reade bags (the bigger ones), but those didn't fit either. So to make a long story short she suggested (and executed) something: She went ahead and grabbed a see-through big bag - put the appliance in it and wrapped it in an artisan way in which I managed to carry it (and protect it from the rain and snow outside!) This Duane Reade was better than most. The staff, while aloof, was still very helpful when pressed. The aisles were well stocked and organized, the store was clean, and they are open 24/7. So much better than the one over on 9th Ave!!!!!! read more

After writing a hater review of the DR on 5th Ave and 23rd St I decided to balance it out with a positive review for this location. I had just moved to NYC and wanted a DR member card. I asked at the counter but she said they were out so she paged a guy to search in the back. He stopped what he was doing to go hunt around and found one for me. I thought that was really nice of them because she could have just told me they were out of them and left it at that. She also waited for me to fill it out before taking another customer even though I told her I could fill it out on the side. I appreciate this experience and will definitely go back to this DR...if there's no CVS nearby. read more

Formal Complaint: WHAT IS WITH THE VOLUME OF YOUR STOCKED BOXES OF ORIGINAL CHEEZ-IT (or lack there of I should say...)? If I walk into a store, I expect to be able to acquire a NUMBER of boxes on any given day, and that is sadly just not the case in your store. Your customer care? Magnificent. Service? SUBLIME! But the quantity of your CHEEZ-IT in-stock shows me that you instead do not care. It's callous, distasteful, heck I'd say downright MALICIOUS, and hope you will take my thoughts seriously. I come back to this store because of their great customer service. The staffs are very helpful and friendly and that's one of the reasons that I come back. The store is in good condition and the products are in good quality. Also my side job calls for me to do a quick mystery shopping and take some pictures the other day in this store to help the owners of this location check to see what could be improved and yes, 2 thumbs up. Love this Duane Reade. Not all of them are the same, even though Manhattan has a lot of them. I've found the smaller Duane Reade stores to have limited selection in some things. However, this one has got it all. It's also neatly stocked too. This one is located just a few blocks from Columbus square, and it's huge. Great selection and it has whatever you need. Also fun fact- it shows up on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert sometimes! read more
